I'm due for an upgrade in the near future but unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus has already been around for a while. I don't want to end up with another Dinc situation where I get mine a year late, all the good devs leave and we have little support left.
So do you think (Opinions here people) this phone will still be worth getting when I upgrade or should I go with the next big thing?
A new nexus should be coming out by the end of the year, so my answer would be no.

Depends on the price. This phone is still a nexus and will get the next Android version. The specs for the GN are more than sufficient over the long haul.
Last years nexus has a more up to date version than my current Nexus.

Yeah we will be impatiently awaiting the next nexus. But on the other hand this is a good phone and will serve a lot of people well for a 2 + year life span.

I had my Nexus in hand by November last year so I'd say no do not buy the current one.
The phone is still awesome..... Get it!

If you can afford better then there will be better available by November... in fact there will be better available in a few weeks time when the galaxy s3 comes out.. you won't have to wait until November to find something better than the gnex
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Last Nov, the Nexus S was still around $400 on Amazon (still same price even today ). Hardware wise, this GN will be in better shape comes this Nov than the Nexus S was last Nov.
When the new Nexus comes out, it'll be in $650-700 range again (unless Google decides then to also sell the new Nexus at $399), so this current one at $400 is still a great deal.
Come November I would get the new Nexus.
As others have said... we'll see the next Nexus device in November. Galaxy Nexus will be cheap and still good (enough) though.
The phone will be a year old. Wait for a more recent release.
I think Google needs to stick with imagination technologies gpu's. For lots of reasons, including an apple one.

This phone will be fine by November. Plus, if rumors are correct we won't see a Nexus phone this year, but rather the Nexus tablet. Jelly Bean is said to have "game changing tablet optimizations".

I would wait for the next Nexus. The GNexus will still be a good phone but is kind of sad to see your device outdated one month after you bought it.

So? N1 has ICS. Unnoficial, but still. Nexus Prime will most def have future versions of the OS.
You people gotta be rich or something, changing phones like that.

Please don't get it just wait for the next one. I got mine just now cause of sprint just barely got it and is the only android phone that appeals to me right now. But if the next nexus doesn't come out on Verizon then maybe you shouldn't get it but if he does then yes wait for that one

Nexus 4 will potentially be released around Dec./Jan. so Id hold off. By then the GNex will have dwindled down to Tier 2 hardware.
Hi poeple!!
Came to say hello...ohh...ohh...ohhohhhhhhh....
Last week, after some research and comparing to One X made my decision for Gnex after 2 years owning a HD2.
What a beauty! And great community/custom kernels/roms on xda
Love this phone

Welcome, it's very refreshing to have a new owner come in and NOT say "why does my GN suck compared to my ______"
I've had mine since January and couldn't be happier.

Received mine from the Play Store last Thursday and I love it so far. My data speeds aren't as good as my other hspa+ devices on AT&T, but they aren't terrible.

You know, I love mine too. But my friend (who converted me to Android from the dark evil hands of Apple) is having a torrid time with his.
He loves Android and had always owned one, but this is the first time he's absolutely hating the experience. his device reboots at least twice every day (he's on stock, but he tries a lot of different apps) he did so in older phones too but never faced this problem.
I love my nexus and will never give it up, but let's be honest, the build is just not stable for prime time. Not every ones lucky with it.

I bought this phone 2 months ago and then bought 1 for my lady a month later. The both of us couldn't be happier coming from the T-Mobile galaxy s2. I can't find a reason to flash a rom or kernel yet as I can't imagine developers being better that GOOGLE themselves ya know what I mean
Sometimes a phone is more then the sum of its parts or specs. I believe this phone is great example of this.

Just got my Nexus yesterday and coming from the Droid X2 I can tell you it's very relieving knowing you're in good hands.
All of this positive talk is helping me get over the "sticker shock". Lol
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
The sticker shock happens but it is much easier to swallow when we buy 300-550 tablets with accessories. Anyway I have had mine a week form the play store its been awesome. Coming from T-Mobile galaxy s 2. Much nicer and smoother.

Wife wants a new phone...I was thinking of adding her to my account and getting a galaxy nexus (only cuz its lte and stock ics) and giving her my beloved gs2
Will I regret it? Should I hold off on final cm9?

I think it's a good idea. I myself like the Galaxy Nexus more than the better spec'd SIII, but that may because Samsung waited almost two years (don't quote me on that) to release the SII and then 9 months for the SIII. Also, you'd be sure to get updates more quickly with the Nexus as it is pure Google.
Should I?
Thanks!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I would def do it.
Do you want a SGSIII?
- If yes, get it.
- If no, keep your Galaxy Nexus.
Why do people constantly open threads like these. Why are you going to base your decision in someone else opinion?
My opinion....doesn't matter! Hell buy an iPhone for all I care.
sent from my Galaxy Nexus running official Jelly Bean!!!!
No.
Simba was moving too slow, so I told him to Mufasa.
Funny cause I just got an S3 for my wife about an hour ago. I haven't really played with it that much beside installing some of her apps. Me personally, I wouldn't be able to switch. There are some really neat features and the 2 gigs of ram is very nice but for me the nexus with jelly bean is still the better device.

The gs3 is an awesome phone no doubt. I won't be buying another non Nexus device for myself though. The Nexus line is exactly what I want in a phone... An awesome development community for bleeding edge features that non Nexus phones won't see for many many months.

Completely agree with this. Ive had an iPhone 4 for a year and before that an HTC Evo 4G. I grew tired of the iPhone so I decided to take a chance with this Nexus. I've got to honestly say as long as this device stays in working condition for the next few yrs, I won't buy another phone until they stop sending OTA updates to this phone. Which might not be for a loong time considering I bought this straight from Google.
Sent from the Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
totally worth it. do it.
Why you downgrade to an SGS 3?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Overall the S3 is underwhelming. AOKP running on both devices, the Nexus perform just the same. The S3 is faster in some tasks like installing apps and gaming, but for the most part its not a noticeable difference. And the Nexus have more up to date software and roms. I like the feel of the Nexus more, the S3 feel very flimsy.
I'm in a dilemma about which device I should sell, I can store more stuff with the S3 and take nicer photos, but for almost anything else I prefer the Nexus.
I do know for a fact that the T-Mobile of version of S3 will probably get Jelly Bean as its last official update, while the Nexus will get plenty more updates from Google in the future.
Also S3 factory firmware is unusable for me, very bloated and slow, I guess once you're spoiled by stock Android everything else feel slow.
Yes, then sell the gs3, buy a new nexus, and pocket the difference.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why didn't I thought of that?
Yes! Sell it for $450-500, then buy the Play Store GNex for $350. Pocket the difference
EDIT: Got beaten to it by Yuhfhrh
I would hold out for windows eight phone
It has avatars that flashlights
Why am I here
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Pocketing the difference feels great.
traded my iPhone 4 32GB + $100 for a 4S back in January off craigslist. The dude couldn't wait for jailbreak any longer and valued a bit more cash.
Flipped my iPhone 4S (that I got an AT&T sanctioned unlock for as soon as they started doing that) three days after playing with my GNex for $550.
Pocketed $170. Almost enough to cover iPhone "5" since I'm eligible for an upgrade. Might do that and flip it for Nexus 2 when the time comes.
Either way, in a great spot and happier than I could imagine with my Jelly device

I actually really liked my g2x, the screen was awesome on it and it felt good in the hand. Also the tegra 2 was smokin fast, IMO was faster than my gs2. Just sucked that it had such little ram and the battery life was horrible. And the camera blew too

Dude I did the exact same change (mine was the skyrocket s2) and I was like
Makes that phone feel like a pos
I have gotten to play with all the newest fancy phones (ONE X, SGS3, etc..) , ill still take my nexus any day of the week. In fact, I would go as far as saying If I was forced to used one of the fancy new phones (that isn't a nexus), I would be extremely unhappy.
An acquaintance of mine the other day was showing me his new [whatever the newest motorola is], making sure to emphasize how much better it is than the "old" galaxy nexus. Next he asked me if I knew how to get the verizon bloat off and when he would be getting a jellybean update... I just laughed.
I paid$150 New for mine plus I get a $50 rebate, and still have the Evo 3D, I just don't use the Evo though since it has sense and since you can't remove bloat without rooting.

I probably would have kept my S2 Hercules if the call quality wasn't so crappy. that thing had some serious call echo on every ROM i tried including stock on both mine and my gf's S2 plus I think that phone was a lot of peoples first android... there was tons of noobs asking the same question 10 times on every page of every ROM thread:what: got annoying real quick lol

Had an iPhone 4S, gave it to my gf. Had an epic before that, selling the crapwiz S2, waiting on the GNEX to come in the mail!!!!
Good on you for paying only 200, great deal for a phone which I have no complaints about beyond speaker volume. I remember being terrified in the interim waiting for shipment of my phone when I came on here and saw all the 'my screen sucks' threads. Just a question if purchasing a used Nexus, is there a quick and dirty way of determining if the secure element necessary for Google Wallet is intact?
I received mine a few days ago. I bought it off ebay for 240 bucks, it came with a nice case and is in like new condition.
This thing is amazing and coming from a Thunderbolt that I have had for well over a year now it makes me wonder what cell phones are gonna be like in 10 or 15 years. I mean the display on the Nexus is gorgeous, the screen is about the perfect size and has a fairly high resolution, the phone is pretty thin, has plenty of built in memory, the OS is intuitive and silky smooth from a performance perspective... I could go on and on but I honestly don't know how things could get that much better. Really the only thing from a hardware perspective that comes to mind is battery life. Maybe in 10 years you will be able to go a week on heavy usage without having to charge your phone.
