I have been trying to find an answer for the last several hours. But I can't seem to get anything to work.
I have the AT&T GS3 and I was able to flash AOKP but then I wanted to revert back to stock. I tried the toolkit and followed the steps and what might of happened is that AOKP did not get wiped completely when I flashed the stock image. Now after successfully flashing the stock image (I get the PASS! on Odin), my phone is stuck while booting. It goes past the AT&T boot image but gets stuck on "SAMSUNG". I tries flashing through ODIN, another downloaded version of the stock image but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong?
Another problem with being stuck in bootloop is that since I flashed the stock image; I think I no longer have CWM. I can't find a way to get to recovery.
I'm not really sure how to help but if you can get to the boot animations you aren't bricked. I know you're not on verizon but in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759642 it says when coming from an AOSP rom back to the stock rom you have to flash a stock boot.img before flashing the stock rom. Hope you can get it working again
Did you make a nandroid backup before you flashed the Rom...if you did you can restore from cwm recovery...hold power, volume up, and home...after the screen goes black let go of the power...hope this helps

If you can get into download mode , just flash recovery from odin.
And how long have you waited at samsung logo , it might take few minutes to bootup.
I don't have CWM recovery. It got stuck on the Samsung logo for 20 minutes before I gave up and did a battery pull.
What do I flash through odin to get it working again. Which recovery file?
Ok, I just used the method described in this article and I am still stuck at the SAMSUNG logo.

Tried that. Still same problem. Noticed that the boot-stock-att-sgh-i7.tar is only 10.5 mb. I don't know much about this, but is that tar file enough to get me unbricked?
usually the .tar file should be much larger than that. It's possible that the file you downloaded got corrupted. Try re downloading the file and than flashing it again.

If you look in the mediafire link inside ths artivle, you will notice that the download is only 10 mb

ok heres the play by play of what i did to get from a fully functioning s3 to brick.
I used Samsung GS3 toolkit and rooted did full nandroid backup installed CWM recovery 5 something then i went to install the at&t version of cynogenmod10. which seemed to be working fine but i was without the google play store on that rom so i installed from zip and i wasnt happy with how it looked so i decided to go back to my nandriod backup which i did threw recovery. when it was doing the recovery it didnt successfully restore the (system) folder. Then i rebooted and am now stuck in bootloop where it just shows the samsung logo. ive tried going into recovery and it doesnt work. It will flash with the screen saying going into recovery with blue writing on top left. then goto black till i release the buttons then it continues into bootloop. any help would be appreciated right now im installing andriod sdk to view the boot log as it boots up.

If you can't get into recovery your only option is to reflash a stock rom via ODIN. This is assuming you can get into download mode. (Vol Up + Home + Power) Stock images can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
Follow the directions in the post. Once you are done with the flash, go into recovery and factory reset, wipe dalvik and wipe cache. Reboot and you should have a fully functioning s3 again. Albeit a unrooted s3, but a function s3 nonetheless. You will have to re-root, re-install cwm (I recommend looking into TWRP instead, better recovery IMO), and then you can start flashing again. Make sure you make another Nandroid before continuing to flash. =)

oh ok i found out i wasnt releasing the buttons properly i am now in recovery mode so im guessing the route to go now is to do factory restore im wondering is there a factory image to do that or do i have to download one ive downloading one now from a source on xda
ok so i got the stock firmware and i did factory wipe with catch and dalvik. then i booted into download mode and but in odin 3.07 it isnt being recognized like the box isnt displaying. Im gonna try some different cables and maybe reboot my computer.

You may not not need Odin. Load a ROM on a SD card and just flash it. Sounds like you just have a bad flash. A basic soft brick.

yeah ill give that a go. gotta love havin these canada variants. oh yea would i flash the zip folder the mp5 file came in?
Merry Christmas everyone. I tried to resolve this issue my self but was unable to. I had stock 4.3 rooted and flashed MOAR. MD5 matched. Everything seemed ok but when I flashed, it was stuck on "updating apps" for over 20 min. I did a battery pull. My phone started and I was able to go to TWRP recovery. I did a cache wipe and factory reset with plans of reflashing but everything was gone, including my nandroid. I tried to flash stock firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/ it said "failed". I cannot get back into TWRP. Is there any way I can restore to 4.1.2? Or 4.3? I just want to get the phone working again. Ideally I would like to get root back but my main priority is obviously just to get the phone working. Thank you.

I had a similar bad expreience with updating my rooted S3,
to recover your phone try to get md5 recovery room and install it using odin, try to get the one that called recovery (runs stock 4.0.4) then you can update by Kies to 4.3.
If stock means the Samsung update you need to flash the 4.3 firmware. If stock means the de-Knoxed version from here, I would start by flashing a new recovery image then reinstalling the de-Knoxed one.
Can you not get into any recovery at all?

When I press the volume up, home and power button it says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again."
I installed the de-knoxed version..I would like to go back to the de-knoxed version if possible. Is there a way to flash new recovery image through ODIN...again, I'm not very confident in my abilities right now and don't want to flash anything to make it worse. Would it be possible to send me a link with what to flash. Thank you
Sorry I meant rom not room, but youv still can get it from the dev "room" forums. I got it from there.
sorry I cant post links here yet, i dont have the enough posts, but google "unroot sprint galaxy s3" it's one of he first links and once you get the md5 file you can use it with Odin, it's a simple process.
fixed it
Fixed it, got to keep root also. Flashed a new recovery image through ODIN (link for recovery in case anyone else needs it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38079994). Then flashed ROM. Thanks for your help guys.
I went through the normal procedure of installing a new ROM, I wiped w/factory reset, got hit with a "status 7" error. I looked it up and it's apparently a problem with conflicting recovery manager files. That makes sense because I have CWM recovery and it asked me to install TWRP. I guess you can't have both?
I followed a tutorial explaining how to edit the userscript file to bypass the error and it seemed like it was going to install at first but I still got hit with it. Now my computer doesn't recognize my s3 (d2spr) so I have to put the files on an external microSD. I tried to restore from CWM but it wouldn't let me. I'm pretty new to this stuff so I'm not sure how to proceed from here.
Your best option is Odin back to stock and start over again.

Im having the same issue. Can someone please help. I tried flashing the stock sprint rom using ODIN but i'm also stuck in recovery boot loop. Would some one direct me where i can maybe find the correct .tar to flash with ODIN

So I was able to root phone on w/o issue. I installed CWM via play store then proceeded to attempted to load Cyanogen mod via zip..and oh yeah I didn't wipe phone prior so....Now I have infinite loop issue at boot. I've searched the interwebs looking for any way to get back to stock or anything so I'll be able to use the phone again but have come up short every time. I've tried using ODIN to flash stock image but that fails. I've tried various .tar, .tz and anything else that odin will load w/o success. Will anyone take pity on my stupid ass and lens a hand?

Are you able to boot in recovery? (volume up + home + power). You could wipe and try flashing again (the first boot does take a while).
As for Odin, make sure you're using the right image (.tar) if recovery doesn't work.
Here's a little Odin guide: [ODIN] Desktop ODIN ver 3.07 for use with Samsung Galaxy S III
yeah I tried that

So I am able to boot into recovery but it's the stock recovery, not the one I intalled after root.
I've tried flashing stock images, custom images, CWM, TWRP, .TARs all w/o success. In ODIN I've flashed CWM and TWRP and it reports success but upon reboot it goes back to stock recovery and shows now 13 attempts to load custom firmware. I even tried to use Cyanogen,s windows app but even that gets stuck saying it can't communicate w/device. I've tried several driver, hiemdal, (which I can't figure out). What I'd like to do wipe EVERYTHING, like format the phone but I can't seem to remove the Samsung boot loader. Is my phone beyond repair? I'm super bummed, esp since I'm not a total noob when it comes to custom ROMs. I dropped greenpoison on my fist iPhone and had several ROMs on my old Moto Atrix. I think whatever evil Samsiung put on this device is totally screwing me.

Try with a different stock image (debloated if you want a smaller download).
Also, Heimdall installs its own drivers, therefor Odin won't work on the same usb port you've installed Heimdall on.
Even in stock recovery, you should be able to do a factory reset (I think). Chances are that your ROM is corrupted atm though, you can try doing a factory reset and attempt boot. If that doesn't work, go the Odin way.
Bootloaders are not something to play with, it's the only way to hard-brick your phone (and you definitively don't wanna remove those nor stop Odin while it's flashing them, if the .tar contains them).
what about...

I updated the phone via ota to latest android (4.3 ?). And I think the stock image I tried using was 4.1.x. Could it be I need to find a stock 4.3.x image from at&t? Any idea where to get this? I don't think AT&T provides ythis as that is where I got the previous stock image.

Can you check if the image you used had bootloaders? Cause if so, you might have bricked your phone. You can't downgrade bootloaders from 4.3.
The image can be found here or on sammobile.com
Strange
So after flashing my i747 30x via ODIN w/various .tar for boot and recoveries I was briefly able to boot into CWM. Stupidly, I selected the format option and foolishly restarted, intending to boot back into CWM and flash a .zip image. Once I restarted I was locked out of CWM again and can only boot into stock recovery once again. What am I doing wrong? I just can't wrap my head around why every time I flash a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP or Philz's_Touch in OdIn and it reports success, when I restart it just loads Samsung's ****ty stock recovery. I still can't flash a ROM via ODIN but I'm hoping if I can get back into CWM I'll be able to load a new ROM and use my phone again. Anyhelp would be great.

So I think I figured out what I did wrong. Recovery mode = pwr+home+VolUp...Download mode = Pwr+home+VolDown. What an a$$hole I am, I thought Download mode and Recovery were one in the same and flashing TWRP or CWM would replace download mode. Once I figured out that one it was a simple matter to boot into recovery and wipe the drive then flash my rom (Omni 4.4.2 D2att) IDK if it's the rom or all the screwing around I did but it now takes no less than 10 min to boot into android from rom splash. Tried updating Kernel to latest but found it didn't fix problem.

Did you do a clean flash? Sounds like you didn't factory reset.
Make sure you backup your apps before doing so if you wanna keep your app data.
Hi all,
I've looked through several of the existing threads on the Note 8 and I've not gotten anywhere yet. I had the device happily rooted and working for months and then, stupid me, I used ROM manager to flash a new ROM this morning and on boot, it's stuck on the logo.
I CAN get to the recovery menu, but reset to factory default does nothing. I have wiped the cache from recovery and then tried to factory reset again; still stuck on logo at boot.
I can also get to download mode and have tried using KIES 2.6 (since KIES 3 is for Android 4.4.2 and up) and every time I try to do the update firmware/recovery, it starts, stops and says 'there is a problem with the download file' and then it quits.
I have tried using ODIN 3.7 and a few different recovery files but although it will say 'passed', on reboot, it's stuck on the logo.
Can someone help me, please? This is the only tablet I own and I really need it to not be a door stop
:crying:
not bricked yet, maybe. for now, try to download latest firmware from sammobile.com for n5110 and use odin to flash it.
about the factory reset of course it would still boot loop, you are trying to factory reset a bootlooped rom so it doesnt matter. you should flash a new zip through recovery.

Hi Mr.201,
Thank you for the suggestion. Question, when you say download the latest firmware, will it matter if I don't use the original? I ask because I've been trying to find the original firmware (stock) and while I've found many sites with GT-N5110 FW's, they are all coded for other countries; I can't seem to find one for US. So, if I use a newer firmware, will that work?
I can still get to recovery mode and download mode. I don't know if USB debugging is on, though, which I hope won't matter at this point. I can't remember if it was on when it died on me.
I appreciate your advice! Hopefully, I can get this thing going again. That would certainly make me a happy camper!
For some reason, the US version is labelled as "Cellular South" but in general, any 5110 rom will work, although there are some quirks with wifi frequencies between the North American and European roms.
My Note 8 got stuck in a boot loop. It was rooted/custom recovery/custom ROM. I tried some of things you did, and nothing worked. I ended up downloading and installing the ODIN one click recovery/un-rooted stock image from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2773712
This restores everything to stock (including the recovery). After flashing, it was still stuck in the boot loop. I booted into the factory recovery, and did a data wipe. After doing that, my note is working now. So ... doing this might be worth a try.
May I make a suggestion when flashing firmware... If you are flashing to something notreviously installed on the device. First flash with philz recovery and perform a full wipe for flashing new ROM. This way everything is clean for your flash to work properly.
A factory reset is not going to work as well for the new flash to take.
