So I am about to root my phone but first I have to flash the r800at to the older .270 update. Do I have to worry about breaking anything? Also once it is rooted what are some things I can do or add to my phone?
Bump. Can someone let me know if there is anything I need to do or be aware of?
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a new kernel. Only with root you can install some custom roms
There is allways a chance to damage your phone when you flash something, but if you follow carefully the flash steps you have a high chance to root your phone without any problem

Yes I do have a locked bootloader. So instead should I flash a custon kernal then root? I was looking into doomkernel and that looks nice. Does it have some instructions for installing it safely? Also is that the best one for the AT&T version of this phone?
You MUST have a unlocked bootloader to flash a new kernel or you'll brick your phone

Oh my bad. So is really the only thing I can do is flash the .270 version and just rooting?
Yes. If you want to change the rom with a locked bootloader you need root acces

Do you recommend any good roms?

I only can talk abour my current rom, Gin2JellyBean.
Smooth, fast, perfect. I'm very happy with it but there are another roms that are pretty good

No need to root before you unlock it. Because its a matter of flashing the root zip in recovery after you unlock.

As well as that, I'm not trying to be rude but, if you don't know the terminology; you probably don't know exactly what you're doing. Not knowing what you're doing when flashing ROMs and dealing with root apps has the potential to screw over your phone.
I do know what im doing. My phone is already rooted and has cwm. But should I UNROOT before I get the bootloader unlocked
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
It won't affect the bootloader. No need to remove it.

So im on stock rooted and lets say i get the update but im rooted do i need to unroot to proceed ??.. or i can do it whit root? Cant wait for some jellybean goodies

Root should be fine. Its the custom recovery that'll prevent you from even being able to get the update.
You will lose root though unless you use voodoo rootkeeper or mobile odin pro.

Its pretty straight forward actually. There should be steps laid out in post 2 of the fw thread and I believe Theexel hasit in his thread stickied in this section.
If you have any problems let me know, but don't see a reason to retype it all again!

Along the same lines...I just got an s3 yesterday and rooted stock 4.0.4. Used OTA root keeper, downloaded the ota for JB and when I attempt to upstate it fails....I have stock recovery. No idea why it keeps failing. I would Odin the prerooted JB but my wife doesn't want to lose her settings she already set up. Any ideas?

You probably have a custom recovery causing it to fail.
Regardless of how you update you will possibly lose some settings. Its recommended, but not required to do a clean update anyway. But flashing with odin should preserve your settings as well as the ota would. Once they boot up it shouldn't matter as the resulting build is the same.

Depends if you've done anything to your current build.
Cwm will flash it, but I just don't care for it. Caused probs for quite a few people.
But you have to be full stock. No mods, no deodexing, no bloat removal, no modems flashed, etc.
Then you should be able to flash it in cwm.
Its preferred you do it through stock recovery. You can use voodoo rootkeeper to preserve root.

Hey I am new to this and I was wondering if there would be harmful parts of install a custom rom on the xperia play
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
If you don't know what you are doing you can soft brick your device. Most of the time since it is soft brick, you can still flash the factory image to recover it (using flashtool).
If you want to install custom rom on the R800x, you need to unlock its bootloader first, after that it also need to separately flash a compatible kernel for that rom before or after flashing the rom for it to boot successfully. There are plenty of guides, you can start by reading this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024782
Also for me, with the Play, its good enough to stay with stock and just root the phone, since it perform best with Gingerbread.
I have already unlock the bootloader but I was just wondering if thing bad would happen if I install a custom rom. someone told the play store would be gone and apps like FaceBook and youtube wont work is that true?

Most of them remove google apps (gapps) but u can just flash the gapps.zip which will probably be stated or linked in the ROMs thread. As for youtube not working, thats not true works fine on ALL ROMs for me.

Hi everyone,
I am new to flashing and rooting. I have rooted my Xperia S using bin4ry method (locked bootloader). I found CWM for locked bootloaders which use a .bat file to flash CWM.
I always get a bootloop by using that CWM. I got bootloop once, then I restored using flashtool. I gave a second try and I got bootloop again!!!! I got extremely annoyed. I was trying to install a flashable zip mod of Xperia T small apps.
I have wiped dalvik cache before every time I flashed. No luck.
Can anybody help me out?
Maybe the mod isn't for your system Version?

Don't worry, framework-res was the problem, not cwm.

I don't think this can be done with a locked bootloader.

You should not give advice like this without reading the post.. He said he had a locked bootloader if he followed your comments he would have probably bricked his phone:crying:
With a locked bootloader this would not brick your phone it would not install I tried this when I had a locked bootloader and my it said on my computer I needed a unlocked bootloader and left the phone stock it wouldn't of bricked it
