New to Android and root

Hello,
I am new to Android and rooting an general but so far what I have done I have liked. I have rooted the Kindle fire .I downloaded version 0.9.6 from xda-developers.com and the OS is 6.3.1 ( I think this is Gingerbread?).
My question is, I would like to install ICS on the Kindle but I am not sure where to start and what is the most stable? Is there a stock image from Google? If I get one from xda will there some how be malware attached? can I trust from other sources? what am I looking for in a image?
Thanks

It is easy to install ics if you have twrp installed. Well do you?. If you do. download the ics.zip and go on twrp click on install
look for the zip folder and the slide to install

The yellow triangle has been long gone for awhile in reference to the 1st gen (6.3.1)

What part of that are you having trouble understanding?
when you boot press the power button. that will change where to boot. you want to go to recovery. in recovery go to install from sd card. then pick the rom you want to install. im assuming you already installed the recovery as team win. Not sure what you mean by root menu as i am not aware of anything called that on my kf.

[Q] Confused, 6.3.2 and 6.3.1

The sticky says I need to look in the KFHD and KF2 forums if I am not 6.3.1 or less.
So again, if your device is NOT running software version 6.3.1 or earlier, you are probably in the wrong place

Ok, so since my device says 6.3.2 I went to the 7" KFHD general forum.
The first sticky I read there says that 1st gen KF devices are 6.3.2 or less.
Devices running a software version of 6.3.2 or earlier is a 1st generation Kindle Fire. All other versions belong to 2nd generation Kindle Fires.

This is conflicting information. Or, am I reading something wrong?
I have a 6.3.2 what thread shows me how to root and flash a nice rom?
Sticky has not been updated in sometime, use the kindle fire utility

Pretty sure you will need a Fastboot Cable see Using Factory/Fastboot Cable to Flash FFF Bootloader and TWRP Recovery
There is a chance that [UTILITY] Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility V1.1 may work but it's unlikely.
or Flashing FFF and TWRP without Fastboot Cable may work
