I spent 3+ hours trying to figure out if it's possible to flash my Rogers GS3 with the HK (International version) GS3 ROM.
All I found is "[HOW TO] Unbrick your Sprint phone from flashing an International gsm boot image"...
Is that a No?
Thats a no, the international galaxy s 3 has a different cpu chip. There have been lots of bricks flashing there roms on our phones

Thank you very much for your quick reply!
You can't flash international ROMs, and it seems that Sprint ROMs might be causing IMEI loss on AT&T type phones (my hunch based studying cases on the forum, not at all confirmed), but flashing d2att ROMs such as CM9 for d2att with the official d2att CWM has worked perfectly for me on Bell, and probably should too for you on Rogers (as the hardware is the same). (No guarantees whatsoever)

I've been reading a few threads trying to find the answers, but I still have a few questions.
=> Rooting
Looking into rooting my S3 with the "No Tripping Flash Counter" method, however when I click on the download link for Wind I get 3x files. I'm guessing (by elimination) that the one I need is the "root66_GLW_T99VVLALE6.7z" correct?
=> ROMs
I would like to install the "Speed Rom Beta 1", however the thread doesn't indicate what variant of S3 that is for. I have also found in some other threads that ROM's and kernels from other providers should be ok, but then this post on "DONT WANT A BRICK?" is saying that Wind and Tmobile are not interchangeable. So I'm not sure if I can use this ROM?
Thanks,
Vic.
WIND is Globalive, so GLW is the right one for you.
The WIND SGS3 is compatible with T-Mobile ROMs as long as they don't touch the modem because the modems are not interchangeable. Since people have been saying that CM10 and CM9 works for our T999V, SpeedROM should work too since it's based off CM10.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
Installed and everything is working except Google now (same scrolling issue other user had reported in the thread).
Had a couple or random reboots this morning, but now my carrier signal shows down and I'm getting a prompt for SIM unlock. Any ideas?
I did a search , but didn't find any satisfying answers.
From reading the forum, I understand that you should not use an At&T modem on any model other than an AT&T GS3 because it can cause issues, but can you freely use a kernal, (stock or custom) that is meant for the AT&T version on any other north american GS3??
Thanks!!
The modems are interchangeable between the i747 and i747M.

i have tryed flashing an att and a bell modem on my telus s3 in the pasted and both times lost my imei and all connections to the towers
both times flashed back to telus modem and all worked good,
i have flashed custom kernals and roms from at&t and bell with no problems
for the I747 the modems are carrier specific and you should use only those for your assigned carrier to be safe. Most custom ROMs leave out the baseband/modem for this very reason.
Kernel source is common and independent of carrier, but are version specific i.e. ICS., JB etc.
I'm on virgin in Canada and have flashed all firmware from Rogers, Bell, and Telus thru odin with no problem at all. Pretty sure there are only 2 different modems for these carriers so far LE8, &LH1 which are both included in the modem flasher in the dev section

Hello everyone, im looking to install cyanogenmod on my note 2 from wind mobile in canada (i think it uses AWS) and i cannot for the life of me target a custom rom compatible with my phone (or i have no idea were to look) under cyanogenmod there are 2 catagories relevant to my phone i believe in there wiki. T0lte and n7100. How can i figure out what one to use? (i hope cyanogenmod is the way to go, im looking for a slimmer rom to save some battery, no need for samsung kies, air play or whatever etc.)
Not n7100

so definately T0lte? i really dont want to mess up my radios, as from the drama ive seen from other Canadian users it can be complete hell trying to resore them.

tolte, never n7100
Even though LTE is disabled out-of-the-box on the T889V (and was on the T889 prior to the update) its very much an "LTE" Note 2 device. Cyanogenmod and other custom ROMs typically flash only the /system partition, and possibly the kernel (and ramdisk, both included in boot.img to the specific). They shouldn't in most circumstances touch the modem partition that's behind the issues you're dreading.
To be on the safe side, make proper backups in both QPST and CDMA Workshop formats.
N7100 is nice and I got better battery life out of it than the TMO one. N7100 is only good on ATT Networks and will never have LTE. So the TMO Note2 is best.
As the title states, I just picked up a AT&T galaxy S3. I am looking to use it on T-Mobile. Coming from a galaxy S1, the unlocking procedure is a bit different. It also seems that roms are fairly brand specific, so I assume I should be looking for i747 roms. There are so many options out there, could anyone point me in the right direction to get this phone up and running? Are there any special considerations I should be taking since I am using an AT&T phone on T-Mobile?

Before you do anything, if you want to unlock you phone so you can use it on another network go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033225&highlight=sim+unlock
You will probably need to change the apn numbers to match t-mobile which is easy.... as far as roms go, you should do some searching for t-moible roms in the development thread. Also not being familiar with AT&T and T-mobile you should check to see if they use the same band and also check which modem (radio) you need... I am sure there have been lots of people that have done this arleady.... search search search at least you asked the question before you started not after you had a wreck
Thanks for the link. I did the unlock procedure, haven't tested it yet since I still need to cut down my SIM card.
I also went through and did the CF-Root procedure with ODIN. So theoretically the phone should be ready to flash a custom rom.
I was under the impression that I should be looking at i747 roms instead of the T-mobile version (i999?) since my device is originally AT&T branded. You are saying this is not the case? Basically I should look at roms in the T-Mobile section? It might not matter anyway since some popular roms run on both.
UPDATE:
I installed Stockorama V2 on the phone and it is up and running on t-mobile. It is a multi-carrier rom, but I used the AT&T options when installing. Would I have better luck installing it as T-Mobile? Basically, can I install a T999 rom/kernel on a i747?

yes sir, just the modem is different
Hey guys,
I'm sure this has probably been answered somewhere but I have an old SGH-i317M from TELUS and was wondering if you can flash custom ROMs for N7105 on these old devices. I've noticed that only the International variants have been kept up to date in terms of development work when looking at Cyanogenmod whereas the US models have pretty much died after KitKat.
May you please advise?
Thank you.

No, don't use anything from a different model number.
I know that other than the modem firmware, there is no difference between the sgh-i317, sgh-t889, and gt-n7105. However I don't know if the SGH-i317M from TELUS is any different from the SGH-i317 from AT&T. Some cursory googling leads me to believe that they're the same.
You can use 85% of gt-n7105 on i317 i am currenlt using Mokee from N7105, flash shift kernel firstafter flashing rom then reboot
