I installed JB on my GN. Everything is running fine. But I notice some small problems :
1. When the phone turned off and I plug in the charger, it freezes at the battery icon [The icon with lightning, not the one flashing] , and I can't turn it on unless I take the battery out.
2. Sometimes the battery does not clear history after charge.
Is there any solution ?
UP!
How to fix it ? It really annoys me.
Sounds like something is not right with the upgrade, maybe odin back to stock ics and let the jb ota come through again

This only seems to be the case when I have the phone plugged in and charging: if I turn the phone off, naturally I get the battery charging icon in the center of a black screen. After this, the power button does nothing, even if I pull the charger from the phone. Further, the charging icon does not go away once the charger is pulled. At that point, I have to pull the battery from the back and put it back in to restart.
Anyone else experiencing this?
same thing is happening to me as well. are you using francisco's kernel running on stock? if no one else is experiencing this, it may be a specific app or kernel thats not playing well with our devices
I believe there are a few people are also having the same problem, so I don't think you are alone.
There is a new update being tested at the moment, apparently a major update and should hopefully address some problems (called 4.1.X). So let's hope that this problem is fixed with the update! (I have no clue what the actual update includes so I am only guessing here)
this seems to be a bug in the os, I had to do a battery pull when this happened to me

I have this exact same issue when I had Android Revolution HD rom installed with the modified kernel. After restoring back to stock the issue went away. But, I installed a maguro_ITL41F_rooted_deodexed.zip using CWM yesterday and this problem has reappeared. I'm pretty sure the zip included the stock kernel though so this may be an ICS problem.
I can't turn on the device while its plugged in and charging while its turned off. I would have to take out the batteries everytime. Is this a bug or is it suppose to be like this?

Tried holding it for 2 minutes yet nothing happens. Don't think it is rom problem?

Good thing I read through this q n a, I'm going crazy too. When I power off (to reboot after installing tons of apps, to refresh etc.) I get the battery charged icon and freezes there. Only battery pull works. I'm on Android Revolution 2.1.0 unlocked and rooted. I guess bug? Annoying, feel like I'm going to tear the cover every time and damage the screen
This happened to me too, and the battery charging icon caused burn-in. Fortunately, it went away after a day or so.
Same bug here. We'll have to hold tight and wait for a fix or run stock.
On my Fascinate you could hold the vol up and power button to get soft boot the phone, but the GNex does not seem to have this feature. I hate pulling the battery.
Same issue for me ... I think we have to open a bug tracking. This is a very annoying problem.
Android 4.0.2
Kernel 3.0.8-gaaa2611
Since my phone is new to me I wanted to power down and get a full charge.. but I can report this bug as well. /cry
Did any of you use a different rom prior to ARHD? I wonder if its something in the kernel or the OS. What allows the phone to show that animation when turned off? That could hint at what modification breaks offline charging.
I have this problem too running a revolution rom. The phone charges fine but I have to pull the battery to boot up. It's a strange one!
does this happen to stock rom? the one shipped with the phone?

No!
The bug happens with custom roms. Infact I went back to the stock rom and (even if rooted) I can charge the phone when it's turned off without having problems.
I am certain the phone still charges to 100% but it appears to be frozen. The only way to boot back up is a battery pull.
Any more info on this from anyone? I saw a 4.0.3 rom yesterday that claims to fix the issue so maybe that's the way forward.
Same here, on bigxie's ROM, if I try to boot with phone plugged in from being dead, freezes right at battery charging icon, have to battery pull. Very annoying.

I agree.... infact I will not use custom roms until the bug will be closed!
This seems to be more prevalent in 4.0.3 roms. I have a deodexed 4.0.2 rom from bigxie which charges just fine when powered off. However any 4.0.3 rom will not let me charge while off.
Not sure if it's an unintented bug but we'll have to see when the full update hits gnex officially.

I don't think so. I had the bug in a 4.0.2 custom rom
Fixed in 4.0.3 ROM/Kernel.

what and where? GSM usually doesn't apply to us CDMA/LTE users especially if it's a rom/kernel issue.
Might be related to a custom recovery. Do you guys all have ClockworkMod in common? I have a stock recovery and don't have such problems.
Hello,
today I was fooling around with my Phone, flashing stuff etc... =D
I wanted to flash the touch version of CWM and decided to delet everything and install my phone completely new without all the junk. So I made a Titanium Backup and than I wanted to copy the backup to my PC. There the problems started, I chose the Titanium folder and wanted to copy it to my PC but just the folder was copied without the contents. I didn't get it to work. Then suddently my PC couldnÄt recognize my GNex anymore.
Because of that I just deleted everything with a Filemanager and just left the Titanium Backup Folder on the SD, a ROM (AOKP b27), Francos.Kernel and a Boot Animation zip.
So then I went into Fastboot mode and installed the new CWM with the GNex Toolkit and than flashed everything without problems.
After rebooting I plugged my Phone into the Wall Charger (the one supplied with the GNex) and had to discover, that it wouldn't charge at all. So now I can't charge it while the phone is on, I can only charge it while it's off?! And while it's off the screen shows the batteryicon with the flash inside and than for 5 secs it show an animaton of the battery filling up, and then the screen stays black for 1-2 secs and the icon with the flash comes again; is this the normal animation? I think I can remeber it just showing the icon with the flash once and then just the battery charging right?
So I googled a bit about this problem and I don't think it has something to do with the software; so can anyone give me some advise? Is it broken, do I have to send it in?! =(
Sounds like something is up with your ROM or kernel. Have you tried performing a nandroid backup and flashing AOKP?
Well, I did install everything new, ROM & Kernel because I thought that could help but it didn't
Edit:
Just now: Phone was charing while off, I booted it up and in the Battery Settings Screen there was the message " not being charged", I unplugged the phone and the message changed to "discharging" then I plugged it in again and suddently it was charging, unplugged again and plugged in again but now it just stays at discharging
Could the battery be defectiv?
Edit2:
Ok, so now I installed 4.0.2 Stock Google with Gnex Tollkit and it seems to be working, so porbably something witht he rom...strange I ask myself what could have done it?
Ok I need help!
So my problem is not yet solved...
Now my phone charges while on but when I disconnect it it's still charing... The symbol on the battery icon in the notification bar shows the little flash and in Batterysettings the graph keeps reseting the time every 10-20 secs...
So basically the phone - even not on the charger - keeos showing every 10-20 secs that it's charging and than it's not and this keeps going...
I think it must be a hardware problem with the battery because I already flashed a completly new rom and kernel etc....
Anyone suggestions?
Edit: Oh something that I noticed too...since it keeps charing and discharging my screen goes on everytime it "charges"...

Help ! got exactly the same problem on my GN =(
Have the same problem, heres a very helpful response to a thread i started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23411891#post23411891
I had this same exact problem two days ago. After a lot of googling and changing roms and going back to stock I brought it to Verizon.
The woman there basically told me in not so many words that if it's charging and not dying immediately I should try living with it, which I told her was unacceptable. I said "you can clearly see that it shows it's charging right now. While the phone thinks it's charging, it doesn't go into proper sleep mode, and therefore the battery drains much faster. Additionally, I don't know when it's charging for real or just saying it's charging."
She went into the back for a minute and came back out and offered to ship me one. I just got a "certified like new" shipped to me next day (I have the insurance on the phone) and it seems perfectly fine so far. Updated to 4.04 and restored with Titanium Backup.
From everything I've read it looks like a hardware problem and won't be fixed with software. You may temporarily fix it by leaving the battery out for like 30-40 seconds, but then when you go to plug it in you're going to introduce the problem again.
I would bring it into Verizon and tell them it's unacceptable, and demand they replace it. Good luck.
When charging, my phone works fine, but when I unplug it, it crashes within a few seconds. If I turn it on without pluging it in first, it boots, and a few seconds after fully booting, it shuts off.
Phone is rooted and I'm using the IceColdSandwich ROM, always on the newest test build.
Help me please, this is really annoying

I have a similar problem - but its imho ROM independent. I left my phone in direct sun for about 30 minutes and the phone was afterwards wery hot and it crashed...
No I can run the phone only, when the charger is plugged in. Without charger attached the phone shut down in 5 - 20 seconds. I think, the extreme temperature demaged the battery. Unfortunetaly Im in Mexico right now and Im unable to buy another battery, to verify my hypothesis.
Its very likely battery related, bacause after every higher energy drain - flash light or similar it crashes even on charger...
Any ideas - suggestions or similar problem? Thx.
check for battery pins bent if they are ok try changing the rom like cyanogen as they are very stable if issue still there replace ur battery with a new one.
had the same...
i had the same problem and when I tried Ascension ICS, never had crashing issue since lastweek....but....it is starting to act weird this morning...not good

Check the health of your battery. There are battery monitoring apps on the market that can do this.
Do you charge using a wall charger or USB port on your PC? The phone cannot run by itself using wall power or USB power and needs the battery to function.
I have a feeling it's the ROM. Can you try a ROM based off an official RUU? Or maybe revert to a stock ROM? Or you could full-wipe your phone and reflash Ice Cold Sandwich.
Hi guys, thx for replies.
In my case its 99% not ROM related - yesterday I tried around 5 custom ROMs (gingerbread and ICS), flashed another recomended radio and RIL and finaly reverted to stock... still the same problem - reboot after several seconds or minutes...
Unfortunetaly Im unable to replace the battery, to see if its battery-related or not.
Regard Pylorus
Problem Solved
After returning back home, I replaced the battery with a new one and the phone works flawlessly again... so voila, problem solved

Hi,
I've searched for this and couldn't find anything so I'm making my first post. I'm familiar with flashing roms since my captivate. I flashed slim bean 2.7 onto my sgs3 from Rogers using cwm. Everything runs perfectly and I haven't experienced any bugs except this one. When my phone is powered off and I plug in the ac adapter, an empty battery icon flashes but never stays. I can't tell if it is charging or not as this icon will never update or come up again. While its plugged in, the phone will not boot at all. Once I unplug it, it boots up fine, sometimes going through 2 boots before launching into slim bean. Its not a big deal and i can live with it, its more of a concern if my phone battery ever dies. I was just wondering if this was a known bug or if I'm the only one noticing this.
