2G Toggle App? - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps (US Carriers)

Are there any good and working 2G/3G toggle apps for the S3? I'm in dire need of it as my phones battery life is getting drained at work due to the horrible reception here.

Search for "phone info" in the play store and under "Device Information" switch from GSM auto (PRL) to GSM only assuming you have Tmobile

Cell standby consumption

Hey guys, just got my new play and loving it. However no matter how much I use it, the cellular standby ALWAYS consumes more battery life than display. That includes playing hours of final fantasy games on it. And yes I do have juice defender set to aggressive. So Whats the deal here? Cheers!

Juice defender gave me worse battery life than without it. I would recommend putting a shortcut to your settings on a home screen and turning off data manually instead. JD eats CPU cycles and thus uses unnecessary battery power.

Go into settings, wireless and networks, then tap mobile networks. Go to network operators and change the search mode from automatic to manual problem solved

Large battery drain

Recently I have been having something, I am not sure what drain lots of battery with leaving no trace that I can see for wakelocking... but it IS keeping my phone awake.
Also I don't even use maps and it eats up a ton of battery wth.
Set your wifi to turn off when your screen is off.
WiFi settings > menu button> advanced> keep wifi on > never
That should help some.
Also, what is your screen on time?

Screen on time is pretty low, switched it to keep wifi > only if plugged in.. so at night it saves data.

That should work too. The only other way to figure out what is taking all your battery is to scour Better battery stats for rogue wake locks and such. I un installed all my user apps and am reinstalling as I use them so that I don't have a ton of extra stuff running in the background eating all my battery.

The thing is nothing is showing up in the better battery stats app.

Here are more stats.
Also for note: I am on LTE because I am at school.. some of the building have really bad connection/ 1 or 2 bars LTE.
If I knew how to turn off LTE I probably would...
Also why is maps so high I don't use it.

I find LTE chews up battery. To turn it off should be settings/more settings/ mobile networks/ network mode. And then choose the one under LTE. Saves lots of battery. Also might want to disabled GPS. I looks like it is on according to pics.

Also I don't see that option to turn off LTE.
Idk if maps has been fixed their problem yet but the latest version of maps has a flaw that keeps it on. Go into the app into and in install the update and see if that helps.

Uninstall the update. The new version keeps phone awake. Uninstall it and uncheck the box in Google play to update maps.

My maps has been doing the same thing. Is horrid. Even disabled all latitude settings, gps etc. Still massive wake ups.
Is there a link to a previous non horrid maps app?

In your app drawer tap and hold maps then drag it down to info. There should be an option to Uninstall update.

That will drain battery quicker; WiFi is more energy efficient than lte.

Only fix is to downgrade. Or wait for Google to patch with an update.

Do you have latitude enabled? That might be the reason
Had the latest gmaps I just downgraded to factory and I will see how it goes.

I uninstalled the gmaps updates and the resaults are good. I didn't thing the change would be this big haha. Google needs to fix the issue.
Edit: By the way is there a way to fix cell standby?

WiFi automatically turns on when plugging in USB

Go to:
Settings/ more settings / mobile networks / CONNECTION OPTIMIZER
then uncheck the box and that will disable the Wifi auto-connection. Hope that helps. I have the same issue the day i got my phone. =)

YES! Thanks, Jeff! I am using Tasker to turn all data connections off at night, but when I plugged it into the USB, it turned WiFi on and I kept getting alerts throughout the night. I understand the principle, but that was annoying.
Good ol sprint doing anything they can to get you to use wifi instead of thier bandwidth

well, wifi uses a lot less battery than 3g and way less than 4g. the optimizer is a good idea, but just works terribly.

[Q] How do you disable LTE with a stock phone?

I just bought this stock unlocked telus s3 yesterday and have everything working so far and love this phone. Esp since a jb update is apparently coming soon too.
I haven't setup my apn settings for LTE capabilities yet because I'm afraid of the battery drain and not knowing how to disable the LTE only (leaving hspa data on).
I can't find a setting or toggle anywhere to toggle LTE only? Do I need a third party app for this?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
I did this on att, not sure but should work with telus also http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...isable-lte-t-s3-you-can-disable-hspa-too.html

I just bought my S3 a few days ago from TELUS too, but I believe I've stumbled across what you're looking for under Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode...
Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but it certainly looks like this should do it.
you can also access the hidden menu and there is an option to disable the LTE. Not sure if it officially works or not but it's worth giving it a shot.

I've found that. That's the only place where I see anything LTE related. I was hoping for a toggle or switch.

Any way to disable EDGE/GPRS

I've never had an issue with T-Mobile until the last month, and I thought maybe my Note 2 was going wonky but the Note 3 does the same thing. Basically it likes to mostly switch from LTE to EDGE or even GPRS sometimes, and it's driving me insane. If you do *#2263# in the dialer it brings up the network settings and you can force LTE/WCDMA only, but then it never drops down to the battery saving UMTS, which I want to do. There has to be a way to just plain disable EDGE/GPRS completely, or at least change the priority to where it doesn't ever go to those unless it has zero signal of either HSPA, UMTS or LTE. Any ideas?
/sadface. Bump just in case no one saw this.
WCDMA=UMTS
*#*#4636#*#*
Choose phone info
Set to WCDMA only
You won't connect to lte this way but it'll disable the fallback to edge/gprs.
Also, I'd change your apn settings to use the epc.tmobile.com apn instead of the fast.tmobile.com if
you're going to force wcdma.
