Add system language packs - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm giving this phone to my mom but she can't read English so is there anyway we can add other languages to our rom? I want to add Vietnamese. I've search the Web and everything but can't find a way how to so that.

Aokp has Viet as one of its languages. I have it loaded for my mom too

Oh. I totally over look that. I didn't see it before. Thx for pointing that out.

Any source for TTS Vietnamese file? Getting Vietnamese on my dad's phone but without the TTS package the nav does not do voice, it only "ding" when next turn or instructions is giving.

Did Google remove the press to hold and change keyboard input option? I keep having to go change it in settings and that's a bit of an annoyance. I like to change keyboards every so often.

When you bring up the keyboard, there is an icon on the top notification bar. Select from there.
Finally, some Swype action!

Okay, so that's what that was. Lol. I was becoming frustrated that the little icon was up there so I assumed it was Swype spamming me. Thanks a lot! I guess it doesn't show up until you have more than one keyboard available.

has anyone been able to download any language files?
it seems the download capability is broken. I couldn't download any language files or dragon feature.
p.s.
Downloading works but it just needs some time.
Downloading the additional languages seems a little buggy. Sometimes the option completely disappears from the menus( even whilst being connected to wifi the whole time). It's not a conclusive method of getting the menu option back but I think running the swype setup/installer app when swype is already installed seemed to bring it back for me. Then several times when opening the download languages menu it sat with the loading twirly for ages and ages.
Also when finally getting the list of languages and downloading my desired language, the downloading was fairly fast but installing took ages.
What was also funny was swype had defaulted to Spanish when I first downloaded it and I was wondering why it's predictions had become so seemingly odd....

You can't. It's the way you change keyboard in ICS (except stock keyboard which is long press space).
The norification will stay there unless Swype implements the ICS way to change keyboard.
I'm using Swype whole mounth. build that I found works perfectly in my g nexus.
I can give apk if somebody wants. Also it supports lots of languages.

and I don't have any keyboard icon at top bar. It works how it must (like in 2.3).
But there one BUT: it uses nuance dictation (or dragon) that's no t so cool as default goggle's

You're using the hacked version, which is already online. This thread is about the OFFICIAL one which cannot be shared as it'd be classed as warez

Help with Chinese input

Hey everyone. So I just noticed my phone has the option to switch to Chinese under the language settings. I've been flashing rooms and kernals for awhile on this phone. Currently I am on tdjs dark side beta 3.
So some of my relatives recently took advantage of the free gs2 offer from T-Mobile and got their phones. They've come to me to see if I can change their phone to Chinese. The weird thing is, that I can't even see that option on their phones.
Is this because I'm rooted with a different rom? Or is it because I'm on ICS that has the ability to have the option or Chinese?
What's the quickest and easiest way for me to add Chinese to their phones. I'm not talking about the Google Pinyin app, I'm looking to change the language of the entire phone to Chinese.
Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated.

Even though the phone supports many languages only a few of them will show in the menu. Using this app will allow you to access the hidden languages and set it as the system language. Be advised the languages are in pseudo alphabetical order so you will have to scroll the whole list to find the language you're looking for.

google now not working in Hebrew

hello
I have a galaxy nexus GSM
I just flashed the new jb stock rom (this one :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801664 - the Deodexed)
At the beginning the language was English and Google now was working great, but right when i change it to Hebrew its stop working - wont show me any cards and wont answer my questions (who's the CEO of Google, etc).
please help.
It's English-only. There's nothing you can do.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
do mean that the device language have to be English ?
Is there anyway to make only the google now English and the rest Hebrew?
Yup, that's what I meant. I've heard of a way by replacing the APK file with a modded one. Not remember where, but Google should get you there.

[Q] Navigation Langue is Chinese/Korean?

Hey, I searched the forum but didn't find anything. My phone was hard bricked but mobiletech guys did a great job, it's working now. Ever since I got my phone tho the language spoken in my navigation app is now in some other language (korean or chinese I guess). I flashed the stock recovery (T999UVALH2) yesterday to see if it fixes the problem but it's still same. BTW I'm on Wicked v6 rom now with Trinity kernel. Any help would be appreciated..
Settings > Language & Input > Text to Speech Output
Tap the gear icon next to the one you're using and check the settings there.

Weird because all other languages seems to work when I listen the samples except English. Although English is selected the language spoken is still not English, sounds like an Asian language..
Try going into app manager and clear cache/data for maps, S Voice, samsung TTS.

Still same, doesn't work..
Maybe try reflashing the rom. Nandroid backup first then dirty flash. No wiping.
If tgat doesn't do it you may need to factory reset.
If you still have stock recovery factory reset will wipe your internal sdcard. Cwm and twrp won't unless you choose format data.

I just did a factory data reset from the settings but this didn't fix it either
Looks like you gotta pick up a second language.
Is this Google nav? Have you tried to reinstall?

What do you mean by second language? Yes its google nav.
I actually never flashed the miui rom. English language in the text-to-speech is not actually English and I don't know what to do at this point, I've tried everything, I flashed the stock UVALH2 rom yesterday but it's still same.
Best I can say man is to go through the Language and input and scour the settings. Reapply every single one making sure to try both English (US) and auto for language selection. First set all settings to english and test then try auto for all and test again.

How does this compare with SwiftKey?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
it's more like swype but faster. it's already pretty good but not final yet. i like it more than swiftkey because of swiping. but maybe the next swiftkey version is even better.
Even if this isn't the final version i really like it. It works just like swype but you see the word follow you as you move your finger.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
So far like this keyboard more then swype beta and touchpal keyboards. You must unlearn certain swype gesture's for it to work correctly but very geeked for the final version and the rest of the goodies on 4.2.

Thus keyboard is fast as heck. I'm not in love with the floating, following word as you type though. A keeper for sure though.

You can turn off the floating following words by the way in settings.
Does anyone know how to to punctuation quickly with it like in swype? My favorite thing about this keyboard besides it's awesomeness is that it doesn't auto add every word i manually type in like swype does.

Yeah, that's my question. I hate having to manually do punctuation again, that's what I like about Swype...
For an early version this thing is fantastic.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I just figured it out. It's like Swift key. Hold down the period then your punctuation comes up.
just love it, also love the leakage community
Super accurate. I love how swiping in this keyboard leans towards common words (it, was, how, and, but. then etc.) more than Swype did. If I remember how Swype worked, it would often try to "overpredict" the words when I'm just trying to spell simple conjunction words and then I would have to go back and correct these simple words. Also, it's awesome that we don't have to do the "circle the letter" to double it like when spelling words with repeating letters. It seems like this keyboard just knows what word you want without having to do any special tricks.
I love being able to have the accurate "peck" typing keyboard while choosing to swipe if I wanted to on the same keyboard. Best of both world.
