An OTA wouldn't just remove your stock Browser and replace it with Chrome. Why would they do that?
They're going to start shipping new devices with Chrome as the stock browser. But considering you bought your phone with a Browser, it will always have Browser. They're not going to get rid of it for the GNex. If you want to use Chrome, download it from the Play Store and disable Browser. Its the exact same.

NO. you can't take an OTA when you're on a custom ROM...

Well. Imo they should replace stock browser in gnex with chrome... Would be 1 useless app less.

Anyone know how to remove the update or just get rid of the constant pop up prompts to install the update when you're on a custom rom????

Change your build.prop to the new version so it doesn't check and find that your device "needs" the OTA.
Or just update your ROM to the latest version based on the OTA.

I find that the stock browser is much faster and smoother than Chrome, and there seems to be a lot of people who think the same thing. However, Chrome is much more feature-packed, has better favourites management and ftp support. That's why I use both, but for the occasional surfing the stock remains my favourite.

Flash is beeing cast out. I ve had only 1 opportunity to use it. And there is no flash player for 4.1 so they really shoul include chrome in place of stock browser.

I would hate Google if they got rid of it.
It's not useless if other ppl want it.
If you don't like then download Rom Toolbox and delete it from the phone and be free from this "useless" app.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^

I had chrome and the stock browser installed before the jb update. Since the update though, Chrome was automatically set as default without me selecting it.

It works? It says in the description that it isn't compatible with the N7.
Quick ICS Browser is an improved version of stock Android 4.0.3 Browser.
***Notice***
Nexus7 is currently not supported.
This browser doesn't work without Stock Browser.

I tried it on Paranoid Android and it crashes back to the home screen quite a bit, some sites won't open fully and crash as well. I recently started using Boat Browser and like it a lot.
I hope Google adds the aosp browser back in the next ota. I am never stock but chrome is just crap compared to the stock jellybean browser in smoothness, speed, and features. Not to mention some apps depend on it.

You need a rom with the old Android stock browser included, quick browser and ics browser+ both rely on the stock browser for core functionality.
i was able to add stock browser on my N7.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746
only problem is that the URL bar is missing
***Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) Limitation***
cannot show url bar
cannot use auto text reflow
as this is 4.1 problem, im hoping that it will be fixed soon.
edit: im attaching newest version of Quick ICS (free).
I'm on Paranoid Android 2.54 (4.1.2) and the url bar works!
Flash, Stock Browser and Tablet-UI. 4.1.2 is Android as it should be!

Android 4.2 doesn't removed the stock android browser.

As title,
i strange that android 4.2 doesn't removed the stock android browser while Nexus 4 doesn't have the stock browser at all...
What do you think about that?

Only new devices (nexus 4,7,10,etc) will ship with Chrome instead of the Android browser.

That is true, default browser still is better than Chrome in many scenarios, Flash work with it, it uses less RAM and performance in general seems to be better... I'll admit that Chrome is getting better, but, I still prefer the stock android browser, and, anyway, if I want to use Chrome it is just a download away...

Thanks. I haven't installed it yet though because I noticed that the files inside the .apk were last modified on 28/02/2008 6.33pm. If Jelly Bean only came out this year, how is that possible!?
stock apks are also dated to 2008. it's normal

I just presumed that the JB browser was the same on all Jelly Bean devices. Therefore, if someone with JB posted it, then anyone could use it.. Is that wrong?

I believe the only devices with official 4.2 right now use chrome as their default browser, i don't know if Google has made one for 4.2 like the previous ones.

Chrome Android - NEW BETA.

Google have launched a new beta channel for Chrome Android, the new version is now 25.0.1354.8, it is available on the Play Store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chrome.beta
Just done a few tests, in Sunspider it is now as fast as ASOP browser, but scrolling can still be janky, compared to stock Jelly Bean browser, which is disappointing. Try using www.theverge.com, IMO ASOP is still smoother, I now this is beta, but seriously Google please do not release Chrome v25 and still be less smooth than stock browser.
Its just as smooth as the stock browser for me on the verge.

For me scrolling is still laggy until the entire web page loads, also on The Verge, the screen goes blank when you scroll quickly, which doesn't happen on ASOP.
So forgive my stupidity, but what it wrong with the version that came with the N7? Why doesn't Google just patch it instead of a new beta?

The main reason afaik is that Chrome Android was closed source, but Chromium is open-source, Google decided to port Chrome Android back into its open-source browser project, this is not yet complete. Apparently they are targeting Chrome v25 Stable as the completion point, in the meantime we have the new Beta.
crashes way too often and kills the battery on my RAZR. too afraid to try it on my nexus.
i'll stick with full chrome and stock AOSP browser for flash.

Known Issue
"Frequent freeze on devices with specific versions of Qualcomm GPU driver"
You can run Chrome and Chrome Beta side by side, doing so on my Nexus 7, without any problems.
Still no automatic text reflow when using pinch zoom
Is Opera the only browser doing this correctly?

Stock JB Browser IS Chrome. Or did you mean to say the Older (Chrome 18) version compared to the Chrome Beta (25)?
The old browser is "AOSP Browser", or Google seems to refer to it as "Android Browser".

Not if you're using AOSP JB, but to clarify I meant Chrome beta 25 vs AOSP browser.
Anyway this is still beta, so I shouldn't moan, according to a user on the N10 forum, the improved scroll threading is not part of this beta.

I posted this for the nexus 4 users:
This build won't include the new renderer that improves the scrolling as it isn't finished yet (but should be ready by the time the final version comes).
This issue here is the one we've all been waiting for, It should finally improve the speed of the scrolling for good

Awesome. Looking forward to trying this out.
Thanks OP I've been running it since last night. Seems smoother than stock Chrome but it's probably my imagination.
Been using it since last night, and so far I like it. Seems faster than official version, definitely benchmarks better. I like that you can have both browser simultaneously on the device. At least go nude

Damn auto-correction
It seems to stutter quite a bit for me. I tried it for an hour or so but what kills it is that the page content freezes when switching tabs. Close one tab and the other tab will have the old page on it until either rotating the screen or choosing another tab. Super annoying.

I use the 4.1.2 stock browser and i think thats the fastest and most stable browsers out there. I also like that i can have full screen
But i've heard that google plans or have replaced the stock browser with chrome in 4.2.2? Is that true? It the stock browser gone in the SGS4 with 4.2.2 fw?
Chrome for me is just super laggy and slow with no support for full screen

well on theory the browser is Samsung's stuff not google so i would like to believe that the browser will not be changed, it is really awesome and I talk with the experience of having had to change my stock browser in all my previous devices because they were terrible.
hope It helped to you, if someone know it for sure I'll be glad to read it.
