Dear All,
What is the recommended apps for Data 2G/3G/Off Toggle Widget for Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
I find it hard to keep back and forth the sub menu in the Settings to switch between 2G/3G or disabled Data connection. The Power Widget from Android didn't help much with Data connection, only WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, AutoSync, and Brightness.

There's one called power controls which does this AFAIK.
as i said on the above, stock ICS has power widget which only control WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS, AutoSync, and Brightness. the one i'm looking for is the widget for toggling data connection on/off and switching 2g/3g from the home screen just to save few tabs from settings menu.
thanks for the reply though, i really appreciate it.
I use 'switchpro widget' and I really love it. It does all you want. Customizing is pretty easy.

unfortunately its a paid app. huhu
Been using apndroid free for a while. It gets the work done so far.
It's not compatible with jelly bean yet, when toggling the data off, it often turned the screen on and off randomly which was so annoying!

Has anyone tried juice defender with the gnex and if so have you seen any differences in battery life (what are your settings)

I had juice from 645a to 11pm... All the way down to 6%... Light web surfing, email, a couple of phone calls, and pandora for an hour with bluetooth headphones connected... So i think it helped a little...
all those apps are just b.s.
all they do is disable your data when the screen is off.
you want to see some real battery saving wonder?... put it in 'airplane mode'(at least when you aren't planning on using your phone at all & not expecting any calls).
if anything, just turn off 'mobile data' when you aren't using data and that's the best thing you can do.

Pony up and get tasker at that point. I use a data toggle widget personally.
Cast by the Odinson's mighty Mjolnir!
Putting it in APM would also disable cell and text functionality.
Tasker is powerful, but not use friendly (I'm STILL reading tutorials and the wiki..), while JD is much more accessible. I'm moving away from JD because I'm seeing weird bugs on my GNex (not sure if it's JD, the GN or Verizon) and Tasker seems like it'll be the bees-knees when I get a hang of it..
Edit:
Sorry for the necro.
Hi all,
I have 4.0.4 stock gnex.
My wifi settings are this:
Settings->Wifi->(Menu Button)->Advanced. It's listed as "Keep WiFi on during sleep"
When the phone go to sleep the wifi seems to stop, I am downloading an app
from the market, when the phone go to sleep, the download sleep.
Not to doubt you on this but does it also say "Always" beneath the "Keep Wifi on during sleep"? If so, perhaps you have an app that overrides that and disables it.
I have no app that can do it.
Hi, I just tested and had no problems downloading a 50 meg game with screen off.
From honeycomb on google changed how wifi was handled when screen is off. This gives similar problems with older applications but should not be a problem for apps made by Google like Play and Music.
You still did not answer the previous posters question. You reference the advanced wifi setting but not what it is set to.

It's obviously set to always
People have had issues with the setting you choose in that menu not sticking. Try toggling it back and forth and doing some reboots. I don't have the issue on 4.0.4.
From what I understand, when the screen turns off wifi goes into a low power state, draining less battery when on standby. So it greatly reduces the speed (sometime pauses) of all connections to save juice.

I understand if it slowed down, but it shouldn't ever pause though.
This low power state is what I referred to in my previous post. An app must now explicitly request that high power wifi mode is retained when screen is off. All apps from google should be doing this already.
Unprofessional app developers that have not been reading up on the latest changes in android api (like Audible!!! shame on you) will have major slowdowns downloading over wifi when the screen is off.

I have the exact same problem as posted here And I may have found the solution at this other link here.
What seems to be working for me is the change the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Never (increases data usage)". That totally does not make any sense to me. If you 'never" keep wifi on during sleep it should *not* increase data usage. Anyway, I have noticed two things:
1) If I set it to "Never," the files continue to transfer when the screen goes to sleep
2) Wifi transfer rate seems to be *much* faster on my home network. I'm using ES File Explorer, so it could be app related.
Just discovered that according to Google, "Never (increases data usage)" means that it will not stay connected to WiFi while asleep which will increase your 3G/4G data usage. Never the less, it seems my Wifi is better when set to "never"
I wrote an article about wifi usage on my blog here: http://zapek.com/?p=262
You shouldn't worry about PS-Poll mode. It's fine for downloads usually as they don't require a fast interactive response.

this could be a possible reason, in my office wifi is not really powerful,
a low power state can disconnect the wifi.
I'm checking better the problem, it seems that the wifi goes into some sort of
energy saving mode when the screen is off that drop my wifi speed.
Is there a way to solve this problem?

In your original post your wrote that you had problems downloading from the market with the screen off.
The android market is a google app and should not have the problem discussed in the thread you linked to.
The problems in the thread relates to applications that have not yet been updated to support power saving features in resent android versions.
So your problem is not the same.
I did write this in my previous posts from may 25. but maybe it was unclear.

Hey its no problem. It's only that this is the first time you state that you have problems with all apps.
I still don't understand why you have problems downloading apps though. I have tested and do not have this problem BUT I do have the problems with most other 3rd party apps.
Anyway there is a fix that probably will help you. Download "WIFI High performance' widget from the market. Add the widget and enable it. Good luck.

So I want to have Pandora play continuously, as it currently stops when the screen locks. After some searching, it looks like the fix is to keep mobile data always on.
However 'Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Enable always-on mobile data' DOES NOT EXIST. What gives?
From what I can tell by doing a simple Google image search, the only phones to even have this option are pre ICS/JB.
If the option has been removed, is there any way to bring it back? If not, can I do anything else to have Pandora keep playing after the screen has been locked for a few minutes? I don't have any battery optimization apps (JuiceDefender, etc) installed that could be causing data to drop.
I'm on a GSM Galaxy Nexus (T-Mobile) running 4.1.1 rooted.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advanced.
Pandora stops playing when your screen turns off? That seems more like a network throttling problem. Once your screen turns off it throttles down to 2g? I've never had a problem with pandora not playing when the screen locks.
Yeah, the next song wont load.
I don't think it's throttling down to 2G, I'm pretty sure it just disconnects from mobile data.
I'm not the only one with this issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698172)
That is very strange.
Instead of trying to set data to always on, try setting screen on to always on.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Data always on while the screen is off is the default. There is no settings option to control what happens with mobile data when the screen is off. There's an option for WiFi, but not mobile data.
Are you sure you don't have an app that's turning off your mobile data when your screen is off? That's usually what's happening in these situations.
Could also be an issue with Pandora. Have you tried other apps and experienced the same thing? Also, you'd be able to see the data being turned back on when you turn the screen on (it takes several seconds). If you turn the screen on and it shows its connected in the status bar, the data isn't turning off and you're having another problem.

I'm sure there is no other app that's controlling this. I did however mess around with multiple 'toggle' apps when I first got the phone. Maybe I toggled the wrong thing. Would the setting stick even through an un-install of the app?
When I unlock the phone sometimes, the internet icon in the status bar is grey. It turns to blue shortly after. From what I have read though, this is normal to some extent, right?
I think you're right about this being a Pandora issue. I just realized that I use the default music app to stream all of my music through Google Play with the phone locked for hours on end and no issues at all.
Not sure how to fix Pandora though. The songs stop playing even on wifi when I lock the screen. I even have 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' set to Always. I'd hate to not use Pandora much because of this, since I just find out how to get unlimited skips and no ads.

Yeah I could do that when plugged in and charging, but I don't want to kill battery when not.
Are you under clocking your device?
You could try the WIFI high performance widget when you are on WiFi, but I don't know if will help when on mobile data.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
It's not the app. Been using Pandora since I got the Gnex with no issues. Do you have some battery saving app? That may turn off data when screen is off...
Edit: Also AOKP has the auto data off in settings I believe.. are you on stock rooted ROM? I saw you say you have no app but something is turning off your data.

WIFI high performance totally works! Thank you. The strange thing is even though the app doesn't work over mobile data (obviously), Pandora magically started working with the phone locked on mobile data. I even uninstalled the app, and it still works over. However, it won't continue streaming for me on wifi unless I enable WIFI high performance. Not a huge deal, I'm just happy it works.

I'm rooted on the stock ROM and I'm sure nothing is turning it off. It actually magically works now over mobile date, but I still have issues on wifi unless I enable the widget mentioned above. Yours streams over wifi no problem?
Hi,
As I am losing 20% overnight (which means no alarm clock in the morning) I need something to save my battery.
Maybe it is possible?
I would like an app which turns off:
- wifi
- Data
- Changes to 2g
Maybe something else?
Thanks!

Just manually turn off data before you go to bed?
Or plug the phone in...
Or... buy an alarm clock? There's an idea .
I believe CM10 has this setting under "Night Mode". Try searching in your settings for that. I would give you a more specific answer, but right now I'm not running CM10, but a lot of other roms have this option. It allows you to set the times and apply certain data and toggle settings. Then again, I could be completely off and CM10 might not have this.
I know Airplane mode would disable all carrier connections, but that still leaves WiFi. For that, could you not simply disable WiFi itself?
Go into profile and edit the night profile and you'll be set

Do i need to go to settings each tim? No shortcut?

You can look into using an app called Tasker. It has a vast array of useful tasks that can be automated.
There's an app called LLAMA, which should work.

Llama is totally great!!!
Not sure if it is a best solution and what are the alternatives. But I love Llama now.
I confgured 4 events (home, home night, work, outside work or home) and testing them.
Switching between events is a bit laggy but seems to work.

Even with data etc on, the phone certainly shouldn't eat that much battery over night. Find what's the true cause (poor app) instead.

personally i use an app called Green Power that you can set times and modes for that disables data when the screens been off long enough and a number of other useful features to help with battery life.

Well... That's not true. I used to own a Xperia Z and went to the nexus 5. I really miss the stamina mode. It switches off data and autosync when you turn off the screen with the very important exception of user selected apps. That means Whatsapp will still work. It also pauses all but selected apps that run in the background when the screen is turned off. All is turned back on when you switch on the screen, instantly turning data and Wi-Fi back on and syncing email. Besides that, it also switches Wi-Fi on when in range of known Wi-Fi networks and off when your location says your out of range. It really helped saving battery, without losing ease of use and of the few things I do miss of the Xperia Z, this I miss most! I actually think Google should take a good look at stamina mode and consider putting stamina or something like it standard in android.
