[Q] 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Bluetooth issue. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I have completely stock, locked boot loader and no root , GN that received OTA last night.
Before the update, my Samsung HM7000, Bluetooth headset worked flawlessly. Since the update I get disconnected frequently, Google Now or any other voice command takes forever to pass initializing.
Anyone else experiencing the similar issue?
Thanks

I guess no one has any issue with Bluetooth?

No for me everything is working fine.

I'm having issues -- it works fine for audio and phone, but when I try to do voice search while the headset is on, the phone will often freeze on "initializing."

Same issue as op

Well, not really the same issue. For me, the Bluetooth headset (Motorola s305) connects fine. It just seems to cause trouble with voice search.

I have the same issue- it fails to initialize and sometimes I will get a blue cloud that says "try again?". It is inconsistent- sometimes works flawlessly, sometimes the second time it will work, and sometimes cannot get it to initialize at all.

Noticed something similar myself.
I used to have a set up where when driving I had two bluetooth devices paired simultaneously.
1) Phone audio to car.
2) A2DP (media) audio to belkin BT to AUX adapter/receiver)
I've noticed since JB 4.1.1, my car will continuously disconnect from my phone whenever the phone is also paired with the Belkin adapter. Not too sure what to do (I have tried deleting and recreating the pairs just to be sure...)

Did you ever managed to fix your issue? I'm having the same problem with my bluetooth connection. It connects fine to my car but after few minutes it disconnects and I have to reconnect by hand then it disconnects again. Can't keep a bluetooth connection anymore. Was working perfectly in ICS and I think it was also working well in JRN84D (Android 4.1). I believe that it's the JRO03C (Android 4.1.1) update that ****ed everything up.

I have the same problem after upgrading my GSM GNex to 4.1.1
I have Kenwood KCA-BT200 hands-free adapter in the car and it was working fine with ICS.
After update it does not connect automatically and I have to switch BT off and back on on the phone for hands-free to connect. Once connected it will stay so for as long as the phone is active (screen is lit up). When screen goes off the phone disconnects after about one minute.
I have tried to recreate pairings, fiddle with BT visibility settings on the phone - nothing helps.

Hello everybody,
I've been having issues with bluetooth on the Nexus too.
My problem, though, is that the bluetooth won't start at all. It worked just fine before the update to 4.1.1 (from ICS 4.0.4).
Now, when I restart the phone and try to switch it on, it doesn't do anything. Right after, getting out and into the settings again, the sliding on/off switch seems to be grey as if it cannot be moved.
Any solutions or ideas??
Thank you.

Try deleting the bluetooth folder named after the MAC address of your BT chipset in /data/misc/ (I think)?

Won't that mess everything up?
Yesterday it actually worked a few times (enabling/disabling). Today it doesn't anymore. I can't think of any reason why it should be doing this... Any other solution?
Thanks!

It regenerates when you restart phone/re-enable bluetooth. I had to do that reset when TB messed up BT pairings on a restore.

BT not pairing
Same issue as OP.
After update to JB from ICS my BT ear bud continually tries to pair. I have removed it and re-added it. I notice it now asks for the pairing code, which I enter but alas doesn't work. Also noticed that my calendar is empty now as well.

Same game over here. Disconnection right after pairing (with my car and Macbook Pro). Driving me nuts -.-

I have the same issue with my galaxy nexus running stock jelly bean 4.1.1. The bluetooth wont turn on and is greyed out in the menu. I just got my phone from this person, and i vaguely remember when i turned it on the first time that the bluetooth was on.(it was running 4.0.4), but im not sure. is this a hardware problem or a software problem? any one has a fix to this?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Everyone on this thread, please go star this bug. It appears to be this exact problem. Maybe someone in googleland will notice.
(please prefix with http and remove spaces since xda forums won't let me post a link until I post 10 times. Ugh)
code.google .com/p/ android/issues/ detail?id=35737

Now after updating to 4.1.2. when I don't allow my car access to my phonebook it works! Macbook still disconnection bug.

Not every person in this thread is talking about the same bug.
The bug with this is that bluetooth pairing causes issues with initializing dictation or google now and s-voice.
It is real and easily reproducible on the siii or the note ii, but that's all I've tried. Very annoying bug.

[Q] Bluetooth not working on Galaxy Nexus

Bluetooth appears to be broken on my Galaxy Nexus I can discover other bluetooth devices fine, and they can discover the Nexus, and pairing appears to be successful from either direction. But as soon as I try to connect/transfer a file immediately I get a notification on the Nexus saying 'connection unsuccessful', 'transfer cancelled by user' (when I didn't cancel anything!) etc.
I've tried this with three different devices (my old HTC Desire, my wife's HTC Legend and my MacBook Pro) with the same results on all three.
Has anyone else run into similar problems, or does this sound like I've got a faulty unit and should send it back? Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this any further? (I've not rooted the phone and its running the stock Android 4 ROM).
I wish I had an answer; just got my Galaxy Nexus yesterday; it won't pair with any of my bluetooth(s) -- they were all working fine in my Droid so I know how to pair. Any suggestions? Help!! Thanks
After further investigation, it seems it's just outgoing connections that don't work on mine. I can transfer files from other devices to the GN fine, just can't transfer from the GN to any other devices. Haven't tried connecting to a headset or anything like that as I don't have one.
I asked an acquaintance who also owns a GN to test it out on theirs and they experienced exactly the same thing - everything works ok except for outgoing connections/transfers.
I'm wondering if its a software bug if that's the case. If it were hardware related you'd have thought the whole bluetooth thing would be broken.
FWIW: I have been able to pair and connect via bluetooth with my car, with no problem. Downloaded my phonebook to my car via bluetooth as well.
Bt phonebook pairing
I'm having BT issues as well with my G-Nex on Verizon. Will connect/pair with my car, works for making/receiving phone call audio, but will not synch the contact list. Thus, cannot use voice dial in my car (Nissan).
Have searched all over the internet, no real answers. Tried to disable the existing bluetooth PBAPservice as suggested somewhere else - no dice, and it just restarts itself anyway. I've seen some suggestion about rooting the phone and replacing the PBAPservice which may be my next step. Hate to root a phone this new when I may end up returning it if I can't make this work ... sorta a deal breaker for me.
Anyone have any suggestions? Could my phone just be defective? Seems like there are a number of BT issues around, but I can't find anything "official" acknowledging the issue(s) ..
Thanks ...
I'm having a problem with my new GNex bluetooth as well. I'm using a Blackberry Stereo Gateway (an A2DP adapter) in my car and it -does- work, but only after I toggle bluetooth off and back on again. That's kinda annoying.
Previously I had been using an Incredible and it was working fine.
Having problems with Bluetooth as well. I have a BlueFusion unit installed in my car. Worked perfectly fine with my Droid X. Every time I got in the car, it just connected and calls and music both played over the stereo fine. Got my Galaxy Nexus paired and it worked great. However, whenever I get back in the car and the Galaxy Nexus reconnects, the audio does not work. It says it's connected, it plays with no audio coming out of the phone or the car speakers though. Tried re-pairing, no go. Tried bluetooth on/off, no go. The only way to get it to work, is to reboot the phone every time I get in the car.

Does A2DP work properly? And what sort of bluetooth device are you pairing with?
Same here, sending files works, receiving doesn't. Pairing with my bt headset also works fine....

I had this problem when I fist boot the Nexus and after the first boot of the update to 4.0.1. Reboot the phone, re-pairing the devices and everything is fine since then.

I can't even get my Nexus to pair with my car (Kufatec FISCON unit for Volkswagen). Just straight up error "unable to pair" when I try it. :/
And I have a problem as well. I did get it to pair with my PC but I can't send any files from my PC to Nexus (it works fine with Desire).
I have two Nexus (one is my wife's) and both car have Blackberry Bluetooth Gateways in them. In both cases I am seeing the same issue as the OP, the bluetooth will not connect automatically. However if I manually power on the bluetooth on the phone when the gateway is in connecting mode than they will connect. I never had a problem like this with previous phones.
Is there a official way to inform Samsung of this issue?
I'm also having problems with bluetooth on my Galaxy Nexus. I wanted to transfer files via bluetooth from my old Incredible 2 to my new Galaxy Nexus and it just wouldn't work.
Edit: A reboot appears to have fixed the problem.

I have this same issue exactly - and had this issue after a System Update on my Droid Incredible for a few weeks before I ended up buying the Galaxy Nexus. I had hoped the new phone wouldn't have this issue. Anyways, it also seems to happen when I take a phone call.
Scenario: I'm listening to music over bluetooth to my bluetooth audio enabled headunit in my car. I receive a phone call, and toggle the bluetooth off so I can take the call privately over my phone's earpiece. When the call is finished, I toggle the bluetooth back on and the phone will connect - however the music is playing, but no audio comes through the phone nor the speakers of my car.
I started having this -exact- scenario issue when System Updates started rolling out for Droid Incredible, and they added the options for "Phone Audio" and "Media Audio" under the bluetooth options. Before these System Updates, my Droid Incredible had worked perfectly with bluetooth audio in my car.

I am having similar problems with both my car's BT phone and BT audio. The phone through my car gets terrible static until I stop and start Bluetooth again, which is dangerous on the highway.
I hope it can be fixed with a little software update.
I have the same problem with new nexus galaxy, pairs well with car bluetooth audio, can hear a confirmation beep on car speakers but no luck in the phone. It just stays on paired but not connected. It doesnt allow to remove pairing and redo it untill rebooting the device.
I'm also having issues with the bluetooth audio in my car. I pair okay with my Sony Xplod head unit, then when I turn off the car and reconnect, the GN starts playing music through the internal speaker instead of the car speakers.
I'm having the previously mentioned A2DP issue as well. Everything connects fine but occasionally, no audio is heard via the deck in my car. Phone calls via bluetooth work, just no A2DP audio.
For those having this same problem, you can fix issue by toggling airplane mode on and off. This is quicker than rebooting (which also fixes the issue).
This has to be a bug. I'm running 4.01. Anyone having the same issue with 4.02/4.03?

Yes. I just got mine last night...ran some errands today. Paired fine in my car, can make and receive calls through the car's audio system, but no sound. I'm running 4.02. Tried this with my BT headphones and the same thing happens.
The airplane mode trick works, however. Thanks!
Hopefully this will get fixed rather quickly!

[Solved] Blutooth 4.0 Comapitbilty issue.

[SOLUTION IN THIS POST]
There seems to be a compatibility issue with the new Bluetooth 4.0 of my HOX when pairing with some devices that have BT 3.0 version.
My own issue is with the Car Audio System of my 2008 C350 Mercedes Benz. The Bluetooth telephony worked perfectly with my DHD.
Now, I can pair my HOX with the system, but when I receive a call I can hear the other party only for 2 seconds then the voice is gone. As if we've both muted the call.
On the other hand, when I call someone, the phone call goes through just fine.
I've been reading a lot concerning this subject, and it seems that people are having the same problem with their SGIII.
A software update of the SGIII that was released for some carriers seems to have fixed the issue.
Also, my sister's iPhone 4S works fine with the system, even though it has BT 4.0.
So I believe this issue can be fixed, but it needs one of the Gurus on XDA to come up with a fix
My issue was slightly different (phone would pair but not connect) and I got onto my car kit manufacturer (in this case was a parrot system used in a mitsubishi) and found out I could update that. Since updating my car kit have had no problems at all.
That's good to hear. I read somewhere that updating the car system could be a solution.
But I'm hoping a solution could be made on the phone's side.

there might be nothing wrong on the phones side, have you checked to see if you can update your devices that are having problems as suggested?
i've had no issues running even bt2.1 stuff
Updating did not fix the issue.
Other phones (with older versions than BT 4.0) work perfectly.
I don't have access to updating my car's audio system atm, so I'm hoping something could be done on the phone's side.
But since this isn't a very wide spread problem among XDA users, I'm thinking it's not going to be an easy task.
Update:
Today, I tried something. After answering a call, the same thing happened (after 2 seconds I could no longer hear the other party but the call didn't drop)
On my HOX I chose Speaker and I was able to hear the other person talking; switched it back to BT handsfree (my car's audio system) and it worked.
Even though this is not a solution, but at least now I can answer a call when I'm driving. I just have to switch to Speaker then BT... Still better than nothing
Having a similar problem with mine, it pairs fine, I can access the phonebook etc but as soon as you try to make a call the bluetooth disconnects. However, i've found that if you turn the bluetooth off and back on again and re-pair it, it seems to work properly.
Would be nice if it just worked first time though.

No I haven't yet. But I guess I'll try to get an appointment for next week.
For the time being, the workaround I came up with (switching to speaker phone then back to BT during a call), is working for me.

Does the call drop completely? or you simply stop hearing the other party?
I noticed something new today.
During a phone call (connected to Car Audio System), and I receive an SMS, the same thing happens (but the workaround still works).

SOLVED
Even though this is an old thread, I wanted to let you know that this issue has been fixed.
By updating my Hboot to 1.31 and using a jelly bean ROM, I no longer have a problem with Handsfree over Bluetooth.
For those of you who are still facing this issue, I hope this helps.
NOTE: Before updating to new Hboot, you need to make sure your CID allows it. Check here.
Also you need to flash a jelly bean ROM afterwards, I use ARHD and it's pretty good!
.
Cheers!

Bluetooth connections problems.

Has anyone encountered issues with connecting with a car bluetooth? My wife phone conntects with no issues.. She can use the cars remotes to make and receive calls.. Mine I have to pick a contact from the phone for it to work, it will not work with the car or my work truck controls.. It seems everytime it ask if my car or truck can access my contacts, I always choose allow, but nothing happens, but it works with the wifes.. This is with the Lollipop update, that we both have...
happened to me I just rebooted my phone and it connected, also check settings for that paired device

Got one to work, in my truck.. The car it worked for a while, then quit.. I will try it agian to see if it will stcik... Most likely caused by the 5.0 update..
I've noticed a Bluetooth problem that suddenly started in the last week or so. I upgraded to Lollipop when it first hit, and didn't have any problems.
Now, however, after Bluetooth works fine for awhile (I can connect to a Pebble watch, Bluetooth speaker, car Bluetooth, etc) all day long - then all of a sudden it can't connect to ANYTHING. Toggling Bluetooth off\on doesn't fix it.
Restart the phone, then everything works just fine for awhile. Until it doesn't, and I have to restart again.
Anyone else experiencing this pattern?
I've actually had the opposite happen. I have a iSimple bluetooth box in my car. I've never been able to auto connect with either VZW Note2 or 4. The CS rep told me it had to do only with VZW phones and he couldn't help me out. On another forum, another member mentioned he didn't have any issues with his older phone, so I dug out my old HTC Incredible. Sure enough, it would auto connect. Something changed with Lollipop, and now my Note4 will finally auto connect to the iSimple box. I tried using a third party Bluetooth app prior, but it didn't fix the problem.
Finally got the one in the car working as well... Because the wife and I have the same phone, I just simply changed the name of my phone and it works fine..
If your talking about the developer edition one rom update.. YES.. What fixed mine was wiping everything and redoing the one rom lollipop, then twrp, then installing Ricks Rom Lollipop, things have been perfect. I even addressed it in the ricks rom thread the week.
I haven't had any issues connecting devices but since Lollipop, when I am connected to a bluetooth speaker (car, bose, other bluetooth speakers) the audio gets choppy randomly.
I have done some searching and found others (LG g3) who had the exact same issue after updating to Lollipop.
I have tried rebooting, using different music apps, unpairing/pairing, forgetting the device ect and nothing seems to work. Anyone else having this problem after updating to lollipop? Anyone know how to fix it?

Bluetooth Car Sync Issue

Is anyone else having issues syncing to your car? Mine connects for 5 seconds and then flashes phone not detected on my phone screen and disconnects. I am running the deluxe standard model, not the special edition. I have checked the easy stuff like making sure Bluetooth is enabled and successful pairing. I can connect to Bluetooth speakers no problem. My Google music app also froze and could not be recovered by powering off or closing apps. I had to uninstall and reinstall. Let me know if anyone has had a similar issue and hire or if you fixed it.
I listen to music in my car via A2DP/BT Audio & have no issues with either listening, or controlling (fwd, rewind, etc...) music apps like VLC via the car controls.
no problem pairing with my car, mobile, music etc etc.

2 ppl confirmed properly working BT;
1: make sure you're on the latest firmware
2: close any other apps which might be using BT (do you have other BT devices on you? They might be conflicting)
3: make sure your music app is whitelisted in battery optimization options
4: try other music apps, like VLC
5: choose balanced power management
6: factory reset & try BT audio as the 1st thing after a fresh boot; this should help you isolate the issue.

I have the same issue sometimes. My Honda Accord had no issues pairing to my Note 7, and connected to it perfectly every time. The car also initially paired quickly to the ZF3D, but when I get in the car I have to manually select the car in the Bluetooth menu. If I try waiting, it will either never connect, or flash like yours. connect for a second then lose connection.
either way, manually selecting it makes the phone keep its connection throughout the entire drive.
Hope it helps!

Thanks all, I tried all of the tips above to no effect. Manually selecting still drops within 5 seconds. Tonight I will try it in a different car to rule out a compatibility issue with mine. I aIso downloaded VLC and made sure everything was white listed. Phone reset had the same issue with no apps installed. My old Note 4 pairs just fine and stays connected. The Buick Bluetooth (2012) system isn't the most up to date either and has limited capability (phone only, no music) so it may be a car issue.
Thanks,

I was never able to pair it with my vehicle even after a reset. It works fine with my other car, and it works fine with everything else I have tried.

Thanks for the reply....that sucks... looks like that's the end of my zenfone 3 deluxe
Minor issue here but similar

Is anyone else having issues syncing to your car? Mine connects for 5 seconds and then flashes phone not detected on my phone screen and disconnects. I am running the deluxe standard model, not the special edition. I have checked the easy stuff like making sure Bluetooth is enabled and successful pairing. I can connect to Bluetooth speakers no problem. My Google music app also froze and could not be recovered by powering off or closing apps. I had to uninstall and reinstall. Let me know if anyone has had a similar issue and hire or if you fixed it.

I am finding that auto connecting to BT in the car and on my Gear S3 is hit and miss, however i have had no issues when doing it manually, but it is a pain in the ass. hopefully ASUS will fix this when they release the nougat update!
My Zenfone 3 will pair with the car and a number comes up that I have to type into the phone but the keypad flashes up on the phone for 1 second and then disappears too quickly to enter it. I have tryed it about 10 times and always the same result. Anyone have any idears on how to fix it.

Bluetooth issue...

Bluetooth was working fine until today. Out of nowhere, the phone wouldn't connect to my car that it was connected to prior.
Tried toggling BT off and on, didn't work. Tried rebooting the phone, still won't connect. Tried deleting the phone from the car and re-syncing it, didn't work. Other phones still connect, so it isn't an issue with the car.
Anyone have any ideas for me?

I've read of BT issues and Oreo in general. My phone connected to my car, but I cannot use it for hands-free phone, music/media only.
Jaybird Freedom F5 headphones, fwd/back, vol up/down worked fine, but start/stop for reasons unknown did not work without kicking on/off Assistant first. That was yesterday. Today all fine. no idea why.
Problematic in
Cloud Player
Spotify
Smart Audiobook Player
I have Button Mapper to enable squeeze to launch flashlight, and even after setting up headphone button to start/stop yesterday, after several reboots it still didn't work properly. Today, however, all behaving NORMAL.
I haven't been able to have my phone connect to my car since I've gotten this. Looks like it connects then when my car asks for me to name it, it says pairing failed. Going to check and see if I can connect it to my sound bar tomorrow morning. Hopefully they push an update that fixes it
I have two pixel 2 XLs one would connect to my Bose SoundLink mini for a few seconds and disconnect repeatedly. The other one, is perfect and have no issues.
I have the same bluetooth issue. My 2XL paired with my car without any problems but won't stay connected. If I connect and make a call it stays connected for the call but disconnects when I hang up the call. My S5 always connected automatically when I turned on the car.

I also am having exact same issue on my P2XL. Paired and connected fine first time, played a ton of Spotify, haven't been able to get it to reconnect ever since. Need to check another phone in car as well as check P2XL with another BT device. Will report back but I may just exchange it as I am within in 14 days. It very well could be software related but don't want to risk them giving me a refurb once I am outside 14 days. Rather get the brand new one and if issue persists, hope that it is resolved in software update.
Report back soon.
EDIT: My phone pairs with everything BT very very quickly; however, it will never connect. I still have several days left on my exchange for brand new device period (they extended it from 15 to 21 days per the Google rep I just spoke with). I am inclined to just exchange and get a brand new one versus waiting until outside of that period and exchanging for a potential refurb; however, I noticed that Google now provides what we are getting in our updates before they come and the November update is full of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL bluetooth fixes so I think I might hold out to see if that fixes our issues, most of them seem specific to our issues of connectivity.

Hi all,
Just downloaded the November release and can confirm that Fast Pair works now and BT is fully functional. I forgot the device on my car and on my phone upon reboot after installing the update. Turned my car on, turned BT on and it really paired and connected within seconds. Tested with 3 more speakers and even went back to car to test again. All good to go. There were a ton of patches listed for BT specific to P2 and P2XL, glad they fixed this so quickly.

Where do you get the November release? I just checked system updates and nada.
Regardless, I fixed my BT issue with Google support's help... press and hold home button. Press blue icon in upper right. Press three dots, then settings. Tap phone, then scroll down to other voice settings. Make sure Bluetooth headset is enabled. Also, reset your network settings. Delete the pairing on your car, then pair again. Mine worked like a charm.

I just went into System Updates and checked and it was available. It started rolling out today, I am sure you get it soon. I tried support's help, made sure BT headset was enabled, deserted network settings and deleted pairing on car and phone multiple times to no avail. With the new update I can swap between 2 different BT speakers almost instantly. The update includes many other fixes/improvements. Some to do with screen, most of that though coming in December patch I believe.
EDIT: added screenshot of About Phone screen to show November 5th patch. Hope you get yours soon!

I don't see anything. I'm on 8.1 though. I'd downgrade if this works, but hopefully there is a patch for 8.1 too.

Not sure if there is a November patch for the dev version just yet, I'm sure there will be but might not be on the 5th/6th like we are used to seeing. Could be wrong though. I do know they started rolling it out today so it might just take a bit to get to you, I didn't see it this afternoon around 2 pm but did around 5 pm. Hope this helps.

NP, glad you could understand me--I just realized the typos I had in my original post, so I edited it...
Is the Bluetooth power level changing for anyone since the November patch? I've been running Jaybird X2 since early this morning and there is no way I'm still at 100% four hours later. I paired them after the patch. Turned them off and on, Bluetooth off and on. I'll try rebooting next, but it's strange all the same.
edited: still 100% (4hrs use)
edited2: now 60% (6hrs use)
These typically have 8-10 hours use per charge.
edited3: now 10% (9hrs?)
I didn't see when it changed or what the increments were.
"Battery Low" warning at 20 minutes power left.
Anyhow, just my experience.

I noticed this too, not a huge issue for me as most, if not all, of my BT devices have battery indicators on them. I don't typically go into BT settings to check battery of BT devices but that's just mw
Audio through Bluetooth for Google Assistant still isn't working for me with the November update. I've delete my headset and re-paired it but on activating Google Assistant with my headset, it still doesn't pick up my voice through my headset mic. [emoji17]

This sucks.
I have the same problem where I can't use Google Assistant in my car. It won't listen through Bluetooth or play sound over speakers
