Down, as in volume down, or down on the gamepad? First of all, did you actually install a recovery? If not, you may want to look into how it's done.
Also, I'm pretty sure you need to be unlocked for that theme, but I'm not completely positive.

I havent installed any type of recovery on my phone. And I was pressing the volume down button. Can I download the recovery from the android market?
If you haven't installed a recovery, you can't access it. You will want to download this app to get it. You'll be able to boot into recovery from the app's menu, once you get it installed, instead of having to worry about making it through the boot process.
By installing that app, can I also flash a custom kernel?
No, you must be bootloader unlocked to flash a kernel, and even then, a kernel cannot be flashed from recovery.

you should unlock your phone if you want custom kernals and roms its repetitively easy! just check if you can do it! A point in the right direction HOHO HO

hm... tried that but it just boots the phone normally.
tried just pressing and holding "BACK" and consecutively pressing "BACK" to no avail.
Have you installed cwm from market then installed into phone.
What I mean is cwm has a 2 stage install 1 install app
2 open app and then click install on to phone.
The shut down menu will not show reboot option. you have to shut down then restart manually when you see sony logo press/spam the back button constantly until cwn loads, if this not work try using down volume button again spam/ pressing continually

make sure that CWM is installed correctly
On xperia Arc S you need to press a few times the VolumeUp and VolumeDown buttons as soon as you see the FreeXperia logo. You'll notice that the led becomes violet when you're entering into recovery mode.
got it working, guys.
downloaded Xperia CWM Auto-Installer from market and worked like a charm.
thanks for all the help.

works great
First you'll need a rooted and CWM supported kernel. Shut down the device. Press the power button and wait. When the boot logo came wait for a little vibration. Then press the Back or Volume Down button several times. There you go. You're in Clock Work Mode Recovery.

Flash old kernel from 5/2015 build, then make a factory reset, then flash new kernel.

Can't boot to recovery using buttons after cwm recovery

Noob here... So I just bought a Galaxy S3, my second Android phone, yesterday through AT&T. I decided to root the phone right away and istall clockworkmod recovery using Odin for both. I rooted the phone first and then rebooted to make sure everything was ok and it was. The phone would still boot into recovery and into download mode. After this I flashed clockworkmod recovery and everything seemed to go fine ... Odin did it's thing and I got the green "pass" box. I then tried several times to enter recovery using the button press method and the only thing that happened was my phone turned off. When I couldn't get into recovery mode using the button press method I downloaded rommanager and tried to boot to cwm recovery using that method and got an error message that told me I first needed to flash cwm recovery to the device so I flashed cwm recovery to the phone using rommanager. After flashing cwm recovery to the phone using rommanager I am now able to boot to recovery using rommanager but I'm still not able to use the button press method and I also realized this morning that I am not able to enter into download mode using the button press method either. I really want to flash the stable cyanogenmod9 rom to this phone but am scared to without having the button press recovery method as an option incase anything goes wrong.
Just to double check, what button combos are you using?
recovery=from a powered down state.volume up,home button, and power. hold all three until blue writing appears on the top of the screen, then release all three buttons.
download=volume down,home, and power.
Also, if its not the method you used to install CWM, you could try the Snapdragon tool kit to install it as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665

Yeah those are the button combos I am using. Thanks for the input I was thinking about trying to reinstall cwm recovery when I get home from work using a different method I'll look into the snapdragon tool kit.

You are gonna have to change 2 file names.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Just rename them so that you can get them back if you ever need to update. I added -delete- to the end of mine. Reflash CWM through ROM manager & then try to manually boot CWM. Hit thanks if this does the trick.

I think you mixed up something.
Volume down+home+power button is download mode. Which is for odin flashing purpose.
I do believe you wanna root your phone by update thru recovery. The 3e recovery is samsung stock recovery, you can root your phone thru update related file.
To flash or install rom thru sd card you must be in custom recovery not the 3e stock recovery. That means you must be root your phone 1st thru stock recovery.
Use search button and find * dr.ketan note 2 rooting guide. It is most comprehensive guide to newbie. ( and remember to press thanks button on dr.ketan tread.)
Warning: check you model thru antutu scores before do anything.
Good luck mate.

Sound interesting. ....if you press volume up+home+power what mode you get?
Im really have no ideal at all. Although I knew same of the devices like korean galaxy s having different way to boot into download mode if compare with galaxy s international model.
If I were u, I will :
- double check device s model and bootloader.
- flash related stock rom thru pc odin.
- root devices with cf root thru pc odin .
And see what happen.

when I press the Volume up + home + power I get something called "Factory Mode" with "Full Test/ Item Test/ Clear eMMC/ Reboot" as options.
I just want to know how to install recovery then I will all set.
How can I flash the related stock when I can't get into the downloading mode?

Stock recovery "vanished"

Hi all, after some modding it seems that my nexus 7 2013 lte custom recovery is vanished. I've tried to flash it via adb, I've flashed the new 5.1 official image, but nothing happen. Every time I try to boot into recovery mode, via adb or power+volume up, all I get is a dead android robot logo with no options.
And, btw, my N7 works perfectly
What can I do?
Thanks
When you flash a new android version you lose root and custom recovery, you need to root and flash custom recovery again as your currently on stock, when that robot is on his back you also have hold down a button combo to access the fastboot / bootloader or recovery, unless you send it the command via adb.
My advice is re-root using cfautoroot and flash custom recovery with flashify.
Ok, thanks! I've flashed twrp (I'm still no-root) and it works fine. Now is there any possibility to come back on stock recovery?
Flashify premium allows you to download and flash stock recovery or bootloader,
if you can't afford it or there not available for dl yet you can alternatively extract the .img files
from the factory image and flash them instead.

Nothing to do. I've extracted the img file from the factory image and flashed it via fastboot but, when I restart the device in recovery mode, it still shows the green half dead androidbot
^Thats normal. When you get to that screen you have to press volume up, down and power all at the same time, all three buttons. Just keep pressing them all at once a few times and it'll let you into stock recovery. It took me about 10 minutes to get in the first time. Don't hold the buttons, a quick press.

So you're saying that normally, on a Nexus 7 with no root and with stock recovery, the combination key to enter in the recovery isn't power+volume up ? Sorry for repeating, but I'm new at modding
I'm saying when you boot into recovery and it gives you the dead android (on it's back I think?) do what I said above.

Done Thank you all!
Yeah it's pita to press, it's why I prefer to launch recovery from flashify or quick boot it's so much easier.
Android seems to love doing things arsed about faced / over complicated it should just be an option in settings, power off like
custom roms along with wireless adb.
