Hey all, i just wanted to ask a few q's as i'm terribly afraid of a brick...
I'm running caulkin's el29 with cwm as a recovery. I understand that flashing ics could potentially corrupt the emmc. I also understand that sammy knows about the bug. We may have to wait until tomorrow to see how they fixed it, but how can they update to ics, without potentially bricking millions of devices?
2) will the rooted ota be flashable using cwm 5.0.2.7? (Rouge 1.1.2) is that even a safe recovery?

From what I've heard the pics recovery has become much more stable
But I still wouldn't use it
Also when Sammy drops the source code the devs should be able to squash that bug with ease

Gingerbread to ICS has never been a problem. ICS to ICS, system wipes in ICS without AGAT, and flashing roms from ICS was the problem. Plenty of info on all roms from the devs on safety of flashes.

What version number does it say? What did you flash to get it?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I believe that if you flashed bubby's CWM, it is version 4.0.0.2. The CWM included in Zedo's V2 kernel is 4.0.1.5. I tried flashing Zedo's kernel and then ACS's V5 kernel on top of it and was getting boot loops. I had to go back Zedo's naked kernel and then flash V5 over it in order to get it working again. I am on the stock recovery (blue font) for now. I'm assuming there's an issue with the newer CWM and their V5 kernel.
Zedo just released a newer kernel, V3. It apparently fixes the lack of USB Mounting and bootanimation features of CWM. Haven't tried it yet as I'm scared it'll break the ##72786# feature like V2 did.
Yeah I flased his v3 and all is well.

Was on blue kuban earlier....good battery life when I installed the agar source kernel. I am on aokp now and battery life also seems better....been on the phone a lot setting up things and playing with themes and still have decent battery. Screen brightness also seems A LOT brighter than before and I can keep mine set very low with great visibility.

CM9 doesn't have a source built kernel yet but they are working on it. I imagine it would be a little better though as it sounds like they are removing all the blobs of code that arnt necessary.

Quick question. I'm on Calkulin v 3.0 right and want to flash AOKP. Do I just boot into recovery and flash it or do I go back to stock el29 and flash in cwm? Sorry I'm new to this

Well, people definitely don't seem happy with the OTA update. I am using times_infinity builds of AOKP and they are absolutely amazing.
On topic, JB seems interesting but it just seems so minimal of a change... Sure smoothness is great but not worth wading through 20 builds of meh performance battery and features. I'll likely wait a month or two to actually use a JB build.

I feel the same. I couldn't care less as to what the official sprint update looks like, I'm just excited for what our devs will make of it I'm on mijjz 16.5 and I couldn't be more satisfied with ics.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Emoji, emoji, emoji!! native emoji support is all I'm thinking about. Thankfully CM10 will come to us, so no need to depend on sprint or samsung. Also, not to be a **** but the article linked in the OP mentions nothing what so ever to back up the meaning of this thread, it only mentions the galaxy S3. This would be the correct thread with good source to a possible jelly bean update to the Galaxy S2. sadly so far only international version.

I got a noob question.. is there a good ICS built that isn't themed? I mean i like colours but would like to be able to theme it myself instead of going for the developers taste.
I was running Calk's ICS rom and he was to only dev that didnt theme the whole thing

I would suggest either cm9 or aokp. Both are very stock looking with tweaks and they are highly customizable.

But tw is heavily [and terribly] themed... why would he want that? I'd suggest sfhubs release of the stock rooted ff18 then... or of course mijjz goodness... still themed, but it works pretty damn good.

Do some research tw and cm stuff are a little different on this phone. We do have some one clicks to get you started. Go look in development or search qbking77 on YouTube for some videos.

The safest seems to be direct cwm. But I've used several Agat recoveries and love the tweaks especially battery life. But keep in mind Agats recoveries are for TW Roms. For AOSP and AOKP I use direct cwm.

The link at the bottom of this post has great starter information. Start by reading the op. Then read the threads of the developers to know what kernel does what..
The reason I'm am linking it is that you can get to each developers thread or site and this is a very comprehensive list.
Do not go flashing without reading!
My advice to you is to read ALL the stickies in each sub forum for this phone.

Since recoveries are baked into the kernel it really depends on what kernel you use.
TW ROMs are easily solved by flashing Agat's kernel/recovery repack.
You'll be able to flash to a CM rom but I honestly don't know enough about other kernel/recovery options out there for non-TW ROMS to make a recommendation for you on once you get to CM9/10.
Hope that clears it up a little.
Removed my post. Didn't see Garwynn's response.
:edit: I do have to say, that once you flash a CM build, find out what recovery you are on, then do some research on that recovery before flashing from it. Saw a few post about recent recoveries in CM builds that aren't safe or have possible issues.
I know this has already been asked but I can't find the thread I got this when I updated to jellybean thru Odin I've even odind back to 2.3.6 stock twice I've wiped everything many times then instead of oding back to jellybean I installed twrp and flashed jmt 3 and it still is showing up I don't understand does anyone else know why its doing this thanks in advance! Or how to get rid of it

You need to use Dark side Super wipe. It's in the development section.
Go into recovery flash the zip then flash your room again. Should solve your problem.

This is the first time I've seen something like this on the t989. No idea what to to tell you except that it must be touchwiz related, since PAC ROM didn't display the same issue.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
This has been reported on quite a bit. Odin flashing back to ICS will fix the issue but any Jelly Bean flash thereafter with a rom based on stock 4.1.2 will bring back the black type. My work around was to flash back to stock ICS and then load CyanogenMod 10.0. What is odd is that some phones will take odin upgrade from ICS and even from GB to the new stock JB with no problem. Haven't figured out why though. I'm thinking there is something in the new kernal included in the UVMC6 rom.
