Jelly Bean OTA - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I've never been able to receive OTA updates on my nexus devices. I got a new gnex a few weeks ago and stayed in its shipped 4.0.2 for over a week and eventually just manually flashed 4.0.4 cause it wouldn't get the OTA. I'm running a pre released 4.1, should I downgrade to 4.0.4 and go for the OTA or just wait for the stock images to flash?

theres an OTA zip from 4.1 release preview to 4.1.1. read the main OTA thread the links are there. and you could have just posted this in that thread too instead of making a new thread.

Either or. If you're on takju 4.1 you should get the 4.1.1 OTA soon enough... there's a .zip available to flash if you're handy with booting into a temporary CWM recovery.

Ya I'm on 4.1, JRN84D. Are you sure I can receive an OTA on this?

If you're fully stock JRN84D (with the proper radio and recovery) on a GSM device, you will receive the OTA. It was the first OTA to be announced to start rolling out.

Is ICS 4.0.2 latest?

So, I got my GN today and I just noticed that my OS is 4.0.2
Is that the latest and the greatest?

A few quick questions about the phone you just got:
1) Was it made in China or Korea?
2) Is the build version yakju or something like yakjuwx/yakjusc/yakuux/etc? You can find this with the Android system info app
3) Who did you buy it from?
Thanks!
Got my 4.0.2 update today in the morning (an hour ago) as well.
1. How to check that? Sticker under the battery doesn't have that info.
2. Mine is "yakjuwx". What does it say?
3. I bought mine in Lithuania/Europe and not from a mobile operator but from official store. Box says that it's made in Korea and distributor - Poland/Europe.
BTW, what has been fixed in 4.0.2?
i believe it's the latest if you're unrooted.. no official update for 4.0.3 yet..
Also recieved 4.0.2 today and got yakjuxw
My phone (i9250) just downloaded the 4.0.2 update. Upon reboot it got stuck on that android busy screen. After about half an hour I removed the battery. I could then boot into Android normally. It's still 4.0.1 and now claims there are no updates available.
My phone is rooted using the WugFresh method, but I did not install any custom ROM. Is it to be expected that a rooted Galaxy Nexus would fail OTA updates?

Have you changed the radio or recovery?

not an official OTA, but the official 4.0.3 update itself is right there on google's servers for any nexus user to build for themselves. Build your own zip.
There was rumor/speculation of another update release by the end of January.
Well it's February so rumours are rumours. Not being a smartass or anything. I hope we get the update soon. Some glitches are inconvenient.

Are updates carrier-centric? My phone reports that there are no updates, and I'm on 4.0.1.

He is talking about the GSM model, you have CDMA.
I hope they release the OTA soon... it's so laggy....

If you used the WugFresh tool kit to unlock and root your phone, then it installed ClockworkMod Recovery. Having CWM on your phone will prevent it from receiving OTA updates.
IMHO if you've unlocked and rooted your phone, it's time for a custom rom. There are some really good, stable roms out there using 4.0.3. And the developers update far more frequently than you'd recieve OTA updates.
Don't be scared, the developers have made it as easy as they possibly could. Before a month ago, I'd never run anything but a stock phone. I'm still a complete noob, but I've run three different custom roms, flashed kernels, radios, and added mods... Just follow directions, always back-up, and if things get hairy, you've a large community of really smart people who are willing to help.

Considering they haven't even started rolling out 4.0.2 in some regions, I think we have a bit of a wait on our hands.

Its region-specific. Read up on this whole argument over "yakju" vs "yakju**" phones.

[Q] OTA update

My new GNex is stock, rooted, w/CWM Touch 5.8.0.2 . If I flash back to stock unrooted, will I be able to receive OTA update to IMM30B?

No need to unroot. The update will still work even with root. However, you need to flash back the stock recovery, or the update won't install automatically.
If you get OTA root keeper https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper by supercurio you won't even loose root after the update, well thats the idea. Our phone is supported and I'm waiting to try it out.

Do you have the GSM version or the CDMA version?
ICL53F is the latest update for the GSM version. If you have the CDMA version, just update it manually. Look here.

You can run apps that require root...
Some examples: Root Explorer, Light Flow, AdFree, Market Enabler, Quick Boot, Titanium Backup

You can run root apps, but don't have a custom ROM. If you don't need root apps, then don't root
Could be wrong but last I checked 4.0.2 was the last official OTA for the CDMA nexus as well. Only two or so people received 4.0.4 and that was a fluke. But like I said, I could be wrong.

This is true. 4.0.2 is the latest official OTA for GSM and CDMA. Until 4.0.4 is rolling out to everyone, I don't call it "official".

It may not be widespread yet, but if there is an official download link available (i.e., like this http://android.clients.google.com/p....signed-mysid-IMM30B-from-ICL53F.659e0a8f.zip), in my opinion it's pretty official.

Thanks, wasn't aware of that. I haven't had a nexus since right around the first two people got that update so I thought it was a fluke

Quick questionupdates

I just unlocked my nexus now am about to root it. Am all stock cdma right now if i flash the 4.0.4 will I still receive ota updates
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Never mind I found the answer
Well considering that there is no 100% official 4.0.4 update out for the CDMA version, anything you flash will probably take you off of the OTA update path. Any OTA that comes out will be looking for your device to be on 4.0.2, not 4.0.4.

[Q] JB always keep asking me to update.

The first month since I installed Jelly Bean 4.1 on my rooted phone, everything was all right. Now, my Galaxy Nexus always keep asking me to update my phone, which I refused, but it continues to popping up the update... So I accepted. Even thought, the same update message keep coming!

ota won't install on a custom Rom, recovery, radio. You have to be on stock combination for ota to get installed.
Look what Rom you are using, probably it has been updated to 4.1.1.

I don't use any Rom.
if you are using even a stock deodexed rom for jrn84d 4.1, the jro03c 4.1.1 won't install. it's still not full stock

I don't mind coming back to full stock. I downloaded a version before the official one was release. And I'm living in Canada (I thought updates weren't pushed by Google).

OK can u give me a link to download the yakjuux ICS so I can flash it in fastboot
Why would you want to go to the Canadian build when you're already on 4.1.1? If you switch to that, you'll get updates slowly again... You're already on takju, stay there lol.
There are no stock images available for yakjuux. But as was mentioned, there is a yakjuux 4.1.1 version you can restore in cwm.
