Just updated my 4.0.4 Yakju to 4.1.1 via the OTA, and I've already noticed something that I can attribute to what they said during Google I/O -- "the screen will now try to guess where you're going to touch next." Now, I'm not sure if that specifically is what's causing it (or if I just horribly misquoted from my very fail memory), but here's the problem:
I used to be able to scroll repeatedly and quickly with my thumb through a list up or down in quick succession (that is, flicking the screen up or down about two times every 1 or 1.5 seconds). Now when I do this, it will stop or slow down the scrolling to a CRAWL. I have to flick, and wait til it slows down or nearly stops, before flicking again. It doesn't always happen, but it happens probably 8/10 times. Inexplicably, it happens more often when trying to quickly scroll up, than down. Actually, it almost never happens when trying to scroll down, and it's not that I'm not making contact with the screen when going up, or touching it differently. I feel like it's just predicting where my thumb is going to be and stops the scrolling when I touch it again. It's very annoying! Aside from this, Jelly Bean is awesome!
So, is anyone else experiencing this? Am I crazy? Do I just need to get used to flicking, waiting, and flicking? Do dogs dream in color?
Also, not sure if this is posted in the right place or not; my apologies if it happens to be the latter.
Yes I do experience this but I got used to it since 4.1

I've been experiencing the same thing. I find that if you lock and then unlock your phone, the scrolling becomes smooth again.
I noticed something was wrong with scrolling. Hopefully this can be fixed.

I haven't noticed this at all. Scrolling is awesome in fact. I'll be glad to take a video of 4.1.1 of me scrolling through over 1000 songs, hundreds of contacts and easily flicking through, buttery smooth...
Haven't noticed this on 4.1 or 4.1.1.
Possibly a bug?

Weird that two of you haven't experienced this, but a few of us have. Wondering what variation you're running? Takju/Yakju/_______? GSM or CDMA (has it been released for CDMA phones yet)?
Maybe it's something specific to a certain build, or maybe it just exacerbates faulty hardware that wasn't noticeable before? Hmm..
I dont experience this at all. Maybe you are slightly touching the screen while pulling your thumb up to re-swipe down, thus slowing down the scroll? That has happened to me a few times, but that is normal behavior. When i try to scroll as fast as I can, like 3 fast swipes a second, there are no slowdowns at all.
Takju GSM here BTW running 4.1.1 deodexed.

And nah, I made sure I double-checked myself for stupidity before posting, and it wasn't me! Aside from that, even if I was doing something wrong, it's not like I suddenly changed a habitual behavior between 4.0.4 and 4.1.1, there's something definitely going on differently. Especially since I was flick scrolling through twitter out of boredom prior to updating
I have this happening when using ondemand governor on 4.1.1. Interactive governor is smooth.
Probably it is related to specific apps?
I tried to scroll many times as fast as I can on the stock browser while browsing Engadget, and everything smooth. No wait no touch predictions.
But, for example, our beloved XDA app is now terrible. Stuttering, jerkey, janky and the keyboard input using SwiftKey is laggy.
I compared the keyboard input versus Facebook or Google+, I can feel clearly the XDA app is laggy.

It happens the most prominently for me when going to Settings > Apps > All and scrolling to the bottom, then attempting to flick quickly back to the top. For some reason, the behavior is *mostly* absent using Twitter, though it still exists. Weird that it happens more in some places than others, and that one of them is part of the Android UI (rather than an app).
That is the same bug we're talking here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576739
I've it since 4.0.4 (where multitouch bug disappeared and appeared this sensibvity touch bug)
I notice it a lot when scrolling pages in web browser.
Just lock and unlock GNexus to fix it.
But after some time, it appears again...

Is it my imagination or is the screen sensitivity affected by upgrade to ICS? Seems like now I have to swipe 2-3 times on some things where before I did not.

Not for me. Seems as if I have to press "harder" and more deliberate than before. It is very noticeable to me.
i had to downgrade back to honeycomb mine was acting up so bad, at first it was fine but it got to the point where I would click on one side of the screen and it would register on the other, and using slideit keyboard it would zip from side to side. luckily I got hc back and everything is cool. and there camera glitch was bugging the hell out of me.
Maybe factory reset solve the problem
I've only had screen sensitivity issues on a few apps, but not across the system as a whole. My biggest problem has been swipe to turn pages in Aldiko. The swipes often don't register or register the wrong. The Kindle app works just fine though for the same action.

I updated my GN to 4.04 a few days ago(stock rom), but after the update I frequently experience lag when I swipe to unlock the phone. This issue does not happen every time, but definitely happen very often to me. Kind of annoying.
I tried to reset the phone, change the wallpaper from Live to static, also reflash it as well. But the issue exists anyway.
Is this a typical problem?
It happens to me also on stock 4.04.

Me too, I find that if i turn off 3g, the lag would be less. But I am not sure.
Try disabling auto brightness?
I notice it too. I think it has something to do with the screen gradually working it way up to full brightness now instead of just coming on at full brightness like it used to in 4.0.2.
I have the lag as well. I tried wiping everything but it's still there. Very annoying.
Lag for me too using the pattern unlock. I can finish drawing my pattern before the green lines even start connecting the dots. It still unlocks, but it's not smooth like it used to be.
No lag with normal unlock. With pattern I noticed a small lag (not picking up the first "circle" I hit) but it wasn't always there.

No lag here. Not on 4.0.4, not on any version before. But then again, I don't use auto brightness since it's just too dark for my liking. Also the screen doesn't 'dim' when switching on when you set the brightness manually.
It's a bug for shure just saying if you want a workaround...

Lag is due to auto brightness. Turn that off and lag should be gone.
For those of us having issues with lockscreen lag:
From what I can tell, it has to do with "smart flex" that is in the newer kernals. Between that and the custom governors included in most roms, it is causing 4.0.4 to lag until the processor ramps up.
I was seeing lag in stock cyanogen kernel, franco's latest nightly, and the latest nightly lean kernel
The fix:
I disabled smarflex all together, and I have seen zero stutter since. (I am currently using franco, and his app allows you to do this pretty easily from one of the options)
Its too early to tell because it has only been a few hours, but I haven't noticed a hit on the battery.
Hope this helps...
Cheers
I have the same problem as well. How does one disable the smartflex?
Hello everyone,
I just bought my S3 last Sunday. Since then I have noticed several issues with it and I'm wondering if it's worth exchanging. They seem to be both software and hardware issues.
1. It's pretty laggy. For such a "groundbreaking" phone this is lagging much more than my old Sensation. It's rarely smooth switching between screens and going from lock screen to home screen is also laggy. Overall, it's not very smooth. Is this common on this device? Maybe I'm expecting too much.
2. The music player skips and repeats A LOT. Whenever a song is playing, it will constantly have gaps in the music. It will just stop playing for a brief second but then continue normally. It also will repeat parts of a song, such as saying some lyrics twice.
3. Whenever someone calls me, my voice sounds "distant" to them. If I call someone my voice sounds totally normal but when I receive the call I am either echoing or I sound like I'm holding my phone away from my face.
I guess my biggest problem is the lag. It really bothers me since it's supposed to be such an amazing and smooth phone. It takes several times longer to load apps and things than my old Sensation did, and I don't have many apps installed at all. Opening the app drawer is consistently laggy as well.
Are these common issues or do you guys think it would be worthwhile to exchange the phone? As of right now, I'm not very pleased with it.
Thanks for all your input, guys!
Edit: Also, whenever I hit the home button it takes several seconds to load it up. Is there a way to speed this up?
Also, I am not rooted yet. I always like to spend a few weeks with the stock setup before rooting.
Edit 2: Last thing, S Voice is a piece of **** on this. Literally. It takes FOREVER to load up and RARELY does what I say. Does this actually work for you guys or is S voice generally useless?

Smooth as butter.
Have you tried installing the latest OTA? It may help with some of your problems. For the home key lag, double press to open s voice, then go into settings and turn off double press home to open.

1. Try this. Settings >Developer Options > Window animation scale ->change to 0.5x or off. Transition animation scale >animation is off
Also make sure Do not keep activities under developer options is unchecked. Check it first then uncheck it. This should solve the redraw issue on teh homescreen (at least it did for me)
2. Did not happen to me
3. Turn off noise reduction
For the distant sound issue open the dialer>call settings>additional settings>uncheck noise reduction. Even running unrooted the interface should be very smooth however.

that is yet another odd thing about my device. it claims I have the latest OTA, when I know I don't. Also, it says the music hub is still unavailable (even though I know several people who have it running)
I haven't actually used s-voice myself, but a lot of reviews said it wasn't very good.
Another thing you can try for the lag you mentioned is in Developer Options, change the Force GPU Rendering option.
Also try limiting background processes to 3 or 4. Though you shouldn't have to resort to this. If other options don't work id still take it back for exchange.

I just tried all the things you listed in number 1 and it is definitely faster, in a way. When I click the home button, the wallpaper pops up immediately. The apps however take significantly longer to load up and the app drawer still takes quite a while to load. I think I am stuck with a return. Thank you for all your help!

To speed up the home screen button:
Double tap home screen (bring up s-voice)
Tap menu softkey
Tap settings
Uncheck launch s-voice
You will need to do this with your new device as well.
And s-voice is generally useless, or as far as I've found.

Sprint Version, OTA update on launch day.
Bug 1: Continually goes into "Car Mode". I'm not sure if it is somehow related to the holster I'm using or what, but I pull my phone out at least 20-30 times a day and it's in car mode. It becomes super annoying when you answer a call and it immediately goes to speaker phone. I tried "force stopping" this app, but that didn't work. Next step is to freeze it, but come on...I shouldn't have to do that. Weirdest bug I've ever seen. Anyone have insight about some auto-Car mode or pushing certain buttons turns it on automatically??? Weird.
Bug 2: When typing in the texting app (only place I've observed it). I'll get a few words in, then randomly, the cursor goes back to the beginning. It's been happening pretty consistently and I even noticed it on the demo model at the Sprint store (thought I had hit an arrow or something). This happens ~3-5 times per day and annoys the hell out of me.
Other than these, this phone is a BEAST. Super fast and beautiful screen. I'm missing CM10 and will definitely root/flash when the bootloader is cracked.
Anyone else notice bugs similar to these?

For the curser thing. Try Swiftkey. You'll absolutely love it, plus it fixes the keyboard curser issue
Thanks for the replies...
Bug 1: This is due to the magnet in the flap of my holster. I'm not a holster guy at all, but at work it's a must since I wear scrubs all day. I can reproduce the Car Mode by placing the phone close to the flap magnet. Makes me think they're going to have Car Mount accessories that will have a magnet and automatically turn Car Mode on when mounted. Also makes me think I need a different holster because my phone thinks it's in the care and I can't shut the damn Car Mode off (yet). Sigh.
Bug 2: It's not the keyboard. I know and like swiftkey, but like the stock android keyboard even more. I installed the AOSP 4.2 Keyboard 10 minutes after getting the phone. The bug lies in the Messaging app. I'm now running GO SMS without any issues....buuuuuttttt....I shouldn't need to do that to sidestep an annoyance in such a critical and basic app. Who the hell is testing these things and lets them out the door with even the slightest flaw in either the phone or SMS apps???
I'm missing my AOSP more and more. I love the phone and the hardware is quite impressive, but if this device doesn't get cracked and CM10 or 10.1 soon, I'll be swapping it out.
the only bug I've seen on this phone so far is that sometimes spell check does not work in the messaging app and then sometimes it does. (Spell check as in when it underlines an incorrectly spelled word in red)
I have noticed the bug #2 as well within the messaging app. Pretty annoying.

Love the hardware too much but if the update does not come in 14 Days I will downgrade to the GIII.
Is anyone else finding their Galaxy Nexus feeling sluggish after the OTA update to 4.2? I'm sometimes even catching the screen being slow to turn on when I press the power button. Is this anyone else's impression as well?
Thanks,
Alan
Mine was slow the first minutes/hours due to setting up... After that, it's fast as riding through hell... Sometimes the CRT animation is a bit slow, but it's not that annoying..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yeah mines doing the same thing also... there's a few on here who's phones are a tad bit buggy after the OTA also. Not really a HUGE deal but I noticed mine is a little slower
I'm not experiencing much lag as far as applications go or scrolling but, as mentioned above, I have about a second delay on the CRT animation/locking of the screen. Not too bad but it does drive my OCD side crazy.
Everything is more or less absolutely fine. The only thing that slightly nags me is the slight delay when I lock the screen. Other than that everything is superb
When you guys talk about the "slight delay when locking the screen," do you mean the time between pressing the power button and the screen actually going off? That's annoying me too. But more irritating is that sometimes when the screen is _off_ and I push the power button, there's a 3-4 second delay before the screen comes on again. This only happens occasionally, but it _never_ happened before the OTA update, and it's really annoying. Is anyone else seeing this? And does anyone have any sense of whether a factory data reset (or anything else) would fix these issues?
Thanks!
Alan
I'm having the same issues. Thinking now about downgrading back to 4.1.2, or rooting which I've been avoiding because I have time to be a flashaholic these days...
The factory image was horribly sluggish for me on a clean wipe (bootlooped on dirty flash).
Since there's an acute shortage of custom ROMs that have moved on to 4.2 currently, options are limited to the vanilla AOSP kind.
I had to flash AOSP R5 with AK-443 kernel to be able to barely get through things. Even overclocking hasn't helped much.
Everytime I feel like going back to 4.1.2, the dreaded /sdcard/0 folder nuisance is stopping me from taking the effort.

I'm having the same issues. Thinking now about downgrading back to 4.1.2, or rooting which I've been avoiding because I have time to be a flashaholic these days...

Yeah, I'm so _not_ wanting to go back to the bad old days of having to flash ROMs to try to get things running smoothly. I'd love there to be a better solution here.
i have the same issue even after update to 4.2.1

Is anyone else finding their Galaxy Nexus feeling sluggish after the OTA update to 4.2? I'm sometimes even catching the screen being slow to turn on when I press the power button. Is this anyone else's impression as well?
Thanks,
Alan

That's sad to hear. I just got 4.2.1 and few minutes ago, and was hoping it would help. Will see and report back.
Ugh -- I just wiped my phone in the hopes that this would be fixed, but no luck: it still sometimes takes several seconds for the screen to light up after pressing the power button. This is ridiculous and so frustrating. The Galaxy Nexus was so snappy with 4.1! What happened to Project Butter??????
How many people in here flashed/tried flashing 4.2.1 through fastboot?

I didn't -- my update came OTA.
OK, I just got the 4.2.2 update, and it seems to be speeding things up. I'm no longer noticing delays when pressing the power button. Anyone else noticing performance improvements with 4.2.2?
For me 4.2.2 is faster and smoother, also battery drain is better.
