Stalled, then date reset to 12-31-1999 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

today all of the sudden my phone stalled/froze for the very first time.
I ended up removing the battery to force a restart. once it booted up, my time was off and the date was set to December 31, 1999 (kinda weird since its the day before y2k.)
Anyway, has this happened to anyone? And what causes this?
Thanks

It hasn't happened to me and I haven't heard of it happening. Tell me about your phone. Are you rooted? Have a from? If so, which one? I believe the time and date are actually found through your data connection (or wifi). Maybe try updating prl and restart. If anything, I think the ics ota update occurs tomorrow, so that will undoubtedly fix it.

I'm rooted and running calk v2.9.2
My phone had been solid until I updated to calk3.0. So now i'm flashed back down to 2.9.2 and things are good until the stall.

Great scott! If you are reading this centro714, it seems that when you pulled your battery, it caused a ripple in the space-time continuum leading you to travel back to the date December 31st, 1999. Meet my former self at the Silver Spring diner on first and third street in Baltimore, MD at precisely 8:14pm PST and he, or I, will be able to help you return to the future.

There's a glitch with the e4gt that I think was the issue with Los

Ok so whenever I reset my ram with task manager my radio crashes and when it comes back on it says roaming then jumps back to Sprint service. It also happens when using ##3282# wether I go to edit or view clicking on evdo will crash the radio. It did this on every build since I got the phone. Its nothing major like b4 when rebooting was the only way to get back in service. Just wanted to point it out bcuz I know its not normal and never experienced it with the og epic.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Its not a glitch that is supposed to happen. When u clear the RAM it stops all apps and processes from running. That us why that happens. Actually that was used to help get rid of LOS rather than rebooting cause it resets the radio.

Ok but why does it do it when accessing ##3282# and clicking on evdo from both the edit and view option? Also mind you it did this on my EG30 firmware when I got the phone. I disagree for the simple fact my phone always did this from day one. Clearing my ram always crashed my radio on eg30 so how is that new? Don't get me wrong I believe they did find a way for the phone to not have to reboot when it happens, but that right there is not it. Its a hardware flaw..

Also let me point out that my og epic used the same task manager and clearing out my ram would not crash my radio.

+1....clearing ram does not crash my radio
sent from the near past
Clearing apps and ram from the built in task manager does not, and never has, crashed the radio on my phone.
Did any of you two that never had this happen ever had a LOS occur before the fix? I'm no pro at being a super geek but I know when something seems screwy with my electronics...

I got my phone about three months ago approximately. It must of had eg baseband on it because it immediately updated to ek02. I don't know if what I think Los is, is actually what it is. I thought it was, when you woke up the phone, you would discover that the 3g and bars were gone and replaced with a circle with a slash through it. Am I mistaken?

Your radio will always reset after ##3282#.. It resets to apply any changes. Just the same as after a profile or prl update.
But should not after clearing apps in task manager.

No the heck it shouldn't! I'm not even applying any changes! All it takes is for me to click evdo from whichever option wether edit or view. Mind you my screen freezes fir a short min when I do go to the evdo setting. Maybe I should make a video bcuz i'm tired of people saying this is normal. I bet the people who said they radios do not crash when they clear the ram won't experience this issue. If this is normal why the same option on my og epic which I still have doesn't do this screwy behavior?

Ok that's good to know. I got the phone on December and I never got one either. However I did experience the no signal popping up whenever I shut the phone off every once in a while. Never happened again after I upgraded to ek02. I'm just trying to get some info b4 I decide to go to Sprint and swap it out.. Now if those other two guys who don't experience radio crashes when clearing ram would let me know if they ever had LOS prior to ek02 I'd gladly appreciate it. Its just the whole thing has me skeptical..

I have both phones, and both perform the same way. As have the hundreds that I've troubleshot in the last three years at my store.
Sounds like you have heard your answer countless times, your just looking for feedback that follows what you want, not the actual facts.
Its not a crash. It will show a crossed out circle, flash connecting to voice(the 1x icon), and reconnect to 3G. If it isn't reconnecting, you have an issue. But, it will always reset.

1st I'll start off by saying two people already said they don't have this issue in this thread. 2nd how those the 1x icon show before reconnecting to 3g when Sprint disables the 1x from all their 4g phones from showing. And lastly I am glad you experienced the same behavior on all the phones you've worked on. I however didn't have that same experience. Anyways I already spoke to my friend (who works at a Sprint store) and he assured me his doesn't do it and if I would like I can come in to the store so he can order me a new one. Which I will do...
Edit: PS how dare you say all phones do it when I have my first epic 4g in my face and it is not doing this? Smh

This started happening yesterday, when I txt someone its normal, but when anyone txts me I receive it but under a no name thread in my app. And it doesn't allow me to reply there since it has no number. And no matter who txts me it goes to that thread so I never know whose texting me. Wth is going on!!!? I rebooted yesterday and it fixed it but I don't wanna have to reboot everytime I wanna txt someonee.

And the time error happened to me too. And my phone also said 7 30 lol. But it was actually like 6 30. And it reallly almost screwed me over cuz I was waiting for a bus and didn't know what time it was or when the bus came lol.

Heh, that's what they all say in the beginning. I said that too and it lasted.... about a week. I rooted the other day to get the Multi-Window update to work with all apps not just the handful that Samsung limits you to.
I don't know app wise, but if you get tired of the Touch Wiz limitations, I can recommend Nova Launcher. That's probably the best update I have done to this thing. Add much more flexibility to the phone.
I rooted mine as soon as i got home, took about ten minutes....if that. Titanium backup is essential to me ever since my OG EVO.

GPS is taking a LONG time to connect for me. Sometimes I give up, restart Navigation and then it connects in about a minute. But the initial connect is WAY too slow.
My EVO 3D would connect in about 30 seconds max, this thing takes many minutes.

Yes I always do a clean install system wipe, factory reset, clear cache etc. I've used about every Rom I think... the only one I can remember not having this issue was darthstalker x1. Right now I'm on stockaroma version 2 and it happens all the time. I even odined back to stock and reflashed and it still happens. I like multi window a lot so I hate to go backwards.

If not, give it a shot and let us know.
Also, it could be your battery has finally given its last. If you don't know someone with an s3 go to a T-Mobile store and they should have one you can test with.

Yes when I was on stock it actually shut down during the first boot. I did notice that after flashing cyanogenmod 10.1 I charged it all night and it was at 100% charge but as soon as I unplugged it then it instantly dropped to like 10% that only happened once though. I guess maybe my battery it's jacked...

Are they able to check batteries at T-Mobile? I'd hate to buy a new one they're pricy if that's the case I might as well pick up a gs4.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
They should have a known good one you can try. Plug it in and see if the reboots quit. No idea if they'd let you borrow it for a day, but I don't see why not.
If it dropped that quick though, I'm pretty confident that it's related.

it could also be that you need to clear the battery stats, my brother in law has had that issue many times after flashing CM on several different devices, but it could still be a jacked battery, am a licensed electrician and i can tell you while it does happen often for me because we buy so many products (obviously) that we get bad items directly from the manufacturer.
How can I clear the battery stats? I used to do this all the time under advance in clockwork recovery but I don't see it there on this phone. Thanks!
