SD card formatted - HTC One X

I have a huge problem: My One X's SD card got somehow formatted or deleted. Thing is I have no clue of how that happened. I have a custom ROM (Android Revolution 7.0.1) and a custom kernel (faux123) Any ideas how to find out HOW that happened? and what to do to recover the data/prevent this from happening again? I had installed some root apps( a cracked version of Root Toolbox Pro, System Tuner Pro, etc)

Firstly cracking apps and talking about it is not allowed on these forums
Now that's over, connect your phone to a computer and mount the sdcard then use a recovery software recovera (same guys make ccleaner) to scan your card.
You may not recover all data.

What is your phone doing? is it still running? I am asking because I am about to format the sd card in the HOX but its saying its empty but has 14g taken up by files. I cant get into the card to find out what files they are.. Do custom roms take up space on the sd card?

Could the known storage card problem fixed in 1.29.401.11?

I don't know. I switched ROMs, and I have leedroid now. Seems quite stable. Thinking about putting a custom kernel to be able to lower the CPU core voltage. Hopefully it won't heat that much while using it.

Moving apps to SD card

Just installed both new Leedroid an pinky roms and am having a terrible time with low on space warnings, when I didn't use to with same apps. Two questions
1. I installed with rom manager and ticked the wipe option, is there anything else I need to check or wipe etc
2. Is there a way to move apps to sd where the option doesn't exist in the standard application manager?
Cheers

Format card to fat32 on pc,install Rom manager to desire from market.use partition card tab in Rom manager.
Could tho depend on type of card tho

Cheers for the response, but it would mean wiping card, which is a problem for me. Any other answers?

If you mean it's greyed out, try this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742379&highlight=google+earth
worked flawlessly for me
Looks good, a little drastic though. May give it a try when I get back to a pc in a few days. Was hoping for something I could try in the field. .... literally!

In the thread linked above, there was something to try with the terminal emulator for rooted phones, that might be of use to you?

[Q] can't install apps !

I flashed the lastest cm7 rom
And use the dt app2sd
At the beginning, i was able to restore all apps by titanium
However, when i try to download and install apps from market,
My phone rebooted itself, but it was not a complete reboot,
It rebooted from the opening of my theme i have installed.
Then i tried to install apps from sd card through file manager,
But failed again, when i pressed "install" , it rebooted in the way as said above.
Then i rebooted my phone by myself, it rebooted in a normal way.
but i found that all the apps in sd card were gone.
What's happening?
My sd card is "JT 8 gb' (i bought it in hongkong) ,
It didn't tell me which class is it,
When i use card reader to put things into the card,
it is about 3~4mb/s
Is the above apps installation problem related to my sd card?
I think that you will obliged to do a full wipe and then install Cm7 a second time. If you have still this problem, change your memory card if you have another

i have already do a full wipe before flashing the rom.
And i have been flashing the rom many time and the problem still exist.
Is thiis really the sd card problem or apps problem
You can download a second time the google apps from Cyanogen website. There is maybe a problem with your market.. (I know that Market don't work in the past with some custom roms but I don't remember witch one.. )

but the problem is after i have failed to install apps from market,
i tried to install apps from my sd card but still fail.
You can perhaps use another rom like Leedroid 2.4.1 and try if market and install apps work

Switching ROMs: move apps back to phone?

I want to switch back to CM7 from Oxygen. Is it a good idea to move all my apps back to the phone before switching, so they're not all floating around on the SD card after I switch? I'm not going to wipe the SD card.

Installed apps? If you change ROM to a totally different one, full wipe is required, which means all your apps will disappear. If you dont want to install all your apk-s copy them into the .zip. I keep all the apps in a folder on the SD-card to install after ROM- change.
Use Titaium Backup you can find it in the market(free app) but with the Pro version restoring your apps is MUCH easier
I'm not talking about restoring apps after installing a new rom (although I appreciate the help on that too). I just don't want the apps that I've transferred to the SD card to be left there.

I have read somewhere that you can delete all folders from the SD except the ones you have copied (photos, music, etc.)

Probably a dumb question!

When fishing roms do you have to keep the download on your sd card after you've made a nandroid back up? My card was getting full so I deleted a ROM I never used anymore from the sd card, just to be curious I restored from recovery and it worked just fine, even though I had deleted the download. Have I had a full sd card all this time for nothing? Lol

Install zip is just needed for a fresh install. If you have a working Nandroid you can delete the original zip.
Not that dumb a question, believe it or not. Its been asked by plenty of others.
But the answer is you can just delete the .zip file, after you've flashed it. I tend to keep some of the files on my PC, just in case I want to do a fresh flash from them (not use a nandroid). But that's just a personal choice, and something I've rarely (if ever) done. But with hard drive space so cheap, doesn't hurt to have some backups.
Thanks guys! I download all of then to my phone so it was really taXing on my card! I deleted all the zips, now I have alot of room!

I had the same problem at first...
Now i've got no place left because of too many nandroid from different ROMs. One of my hypothesis is that ORD is a virus spread by SD Card manufacturer ;p
I leave most of my nandroids on my computer along with all the other downloads for my phones, roms, apks, kernels, etc. I have an 8gb sd card and use drop box. Try to keep pictures, music and videos to a minimum but somehow I always seem to run low on space. I guess we all have to get 16gb cards!

Yes, you can delete it. Personally though, I delete all but the last ROM I downloaded, just in case I get an error with the new ROM, I can flash the old one back right there.

[Q] External sd wont mount

HI, I'm in a bit of a problem here. I recently rooted my phone and it worked fine. But recently I downloaded an apk, g pro recovery off the internet. I know it was dumb for me to do that and I should've researched better. The problem is, I installed the apk and installed the custom recovery (cwm) and it rebooted but after that my external sd card just wont mount. I tried hard resetting my phone and I did a factory reset but no luck. The phone isn't bricked but I think the custom recovery is installed is still there. I would like to know if theres a fix for it because my phone seems to be working fine except that the sd card wont mount. Its a phone problem as I tried using the sd card on multiple phones and it worked and I tried using another sd card on my phone but it didnt work so its a phone problem. it just shows "SD card insterted" but it doesn't really do anything other than that. Please help as I have a titanium backup of all my stuff in my sd card.
this is the link from where i downloaded the recovery:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284298
