With my previous device (DX) I stuck primarily to bulky/extremely durable cases for protection, but given the bump in size for the S3, I decided to take a departure and look for cases that were creative yet extremely slim. I decided to go with the Elago G5 Breathe Case.

Pros:
*Reasonably priced (I paid $8.99 shipped with Prime - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DOBF04/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
*Available in numerous colors - http://elagostore.com/category/74725208961/1/Galaxy-S3-Case.htm
*Mesh backing prevents device from becoming overheated.
*Hardshell casing ensures case will not easily crack, bend, or break.
*Slim fit ensures no bulk and contours perfectly to the shape of the device
*Simple and to some degree Eco-Friendly packaging
Cons:
*Offers minimal protection / top and bottom of device is not protected
*No lip around the circumference of the front of the case, thus offers little to no screen protection if device is placed screen down on flat/rough service.
*Does not include extras (some manufacturers include screen protectors, stands, cloths, etc.)
*Possible to find similar or better protective cases for the same price or cheaper.
Given the sheer size of the S3 and the ability for this case to add little to no noticeable bulk makes me a big fan of this case;more so then I had originally expected I would be. I plan on purchasing an SGP Curved Crystal protector once it is released, to remedy the lack of screen protection because of minimal lip.
Nice write-up, thanks for the review. I had these on my iPhone and was happy to see that they went ahead and designed cases for the GS3.
At the moment I have the solid-back white, as well as a navy breathe case on the way. Already dropped it once, case is scratched up but everything else is solid.
Out of curiosity, are you rooted/ROM'ed? Wondering how you got that lock-screen.

Bingo
I did forget to mention that while the finish is glossy, the holes do in fact assist with gripping the device.
This looks like a great case, but too bad there isn't enough of a lip around the front of the phone to set it face-down and not worry about scratches. Other slim cases like Rock have a lip. Does anyone know if the other Elago G5 Slim Fit cases have a lip on the front?

Which Rock case has a lip? The one below doesnt, its similar to the Elago G5 case.
I am looking for a slim case that protects the top, bottom and sides, plus has a lip around the screen. Has anyone see one with these specs?

There is another elago g5 case which cover the whole phone but unfortunately I can't recommend it :

BUMP! May be something new coming up?
otterbox released their impact series case.. but no defender as of yet
Incipio just came out with a case for the captivate. I have one of their hard cases for my Zune HD and am very happy with the quality. I'm tempted to pick up one for my Captivate. Right now I'm using an Invisibleshield but wouldn't mind a little more protection.
I just got the Otterbox Impact case for the Captivate not ten minutes ago in the mail. Shipping was ok, I ordered it last Thursday. Seems really solid and thick enough that it could take a decent impact or drop. I like it so far but the increase in size will have to grow on me. It's not a ridiculous increase, puts it about to the size of a 3GS iPhone really. Other than that it comes with a screen protector and has a good feel in your hands. I got it for right under $18.00 with shipping using the coupon code "tb1010y".
Check this and this. These look pretty solid, and are very reasonably-priced!

Bought this case in the mall at a kiosk.
http://store.mybat.com/smoke-argyle-candy-skin-cover-18120.html
1. That design, barely visible. It's actually A LOT darker case. Especially when on the phone.
2. It's thick flexible plastic. Hard Gel-like. Not a rubber skin that gets caught up in your pocket.
3. It's the exact same shape as the phone. A true "skin'.
4. Light. Adds almost no additional weight to the phone.

IDK about the first one, but the snap on case isn't that good. I have the black version. The snaps are broken in several spots, the case opens itself when dropped (what good is that?), and occasionally when pulling out of my pocket the case is literally falling off.
YMMV, but if I had to do it again, I'd avoid the Amzer rubberized snap on case at all costs.
Body Glove TPU case is all you need.
I know there are a lot of threads already about cases for my Samsung G II (Epic 4G Touch)
Heres the thing. I don't want a huge case. Why get a sleek thin phone just to put a bulky case on it?
What are some suggestions for a minimalist case that is better than just putting a sticker on it?
There are a few choices that I have found...
Hard Snap on Case - very thin but doesn't protect from drops very well
soft thin case very thin but I would imagine it would be hard to get in and out of a pocket from it "sticking" to your pants.
Trident Aegis case not as thin as the others, but definitely not bulky. Very good protection, no kickstand however.
Casemate Pop White case with kickstand pretty much like the aegis with a kickstand. I have one but I am not impressed with the build quality of the silicone. It flakes off in places due to the friction of pulling it out of a pocket.
For the "sticker" route the best I've found is:
Full Body Invisible Shield This will protect from scratches but not drops, etc.
Got one of these a few months ago and couldn't be happier.

Hope that helped. Happy Hunting.

I would personally have to say the Trident Ageis, very close to the otterbox line but available in more colors...plus they are a tad cheaper as well...
doesn't really get more minimal than this. I have one on all 3 of my phones. comes in different colors.

I disagree. The matte version of Diztronic's (formerly TPU Cases) case does not stick at all. There is just enough of a texture to feel like you have a solid grip, but smooth enough that it never sticks in your pocket.
I have the same requirements in a case as the OP, and I think a TPU case is a great idea. It has protected my phone from a handful of short falls onto a variety of surfaces without an issue.
I purchased the case after reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266308
I believe the overwhelming majority of reviews are positive for the case. Check out the Diztronic's page here: http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36&products_id=147
I am curious about the Nillkin case, but considering they seem to be only available when ordering from China, and that in the past, I've had snap-on cases scratch phones, I am worried. Here is a review of a Nillkin case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485054
Buy a few different ones and figure out what you like best. I tried a few different styles of tpu/rubber case and ended up with a trident aegis. My phones in the past all had minimal rubber case or none but it just feels right on this phone.
Slim Hard Case with Built-In Screen Protector (comparable to Otterbox Defender Series)

TL;DR: My case didn't seal properly, but if it did, I would've been quite happy with it.

The Long Version
I ordered mine off of Amazon (for about $15 less than what Trident sells it for). I was under the impression that my product would be manufactured in the USA, given that Trident makes a big deal about that on their website. It came in Trident-branded retail packaging, but was clearly labeled "Made In China" on the back.
The case is a thin TPU, surrounded by a hardened silicone border (with reinforced corners). The frame for the top is hard plastic (TPU?), and comes with a glued-in plastic screen protector. Once in the case, the phone is exactly the same size as the Galaxy S4, only slightly thicker. The screen is still manageable, and the heft is not too outrageous, considering that it probably offers a decent amount of protection.
Pros
Reinforced corners
Rigid support
Easy to install
Buttons become larger and clickier
Screen protector does not cover the proximity sensor
Microphone and USB port covers
Dust filter for the speaker grill
Physical design is much more attractive and less bulky than what you'd find with an Otterbox case
Cons
So long, Moto Maker design...
The top portion of my case would not seal / seat properly (defective design?)
The silicone (as expected) grips to cloth
You lose the beautiful industrial design of the Moto X in a bulkier case
The port cover flaps are a little annoying to work around (and don't insert securely enough for my preference)
The case is difficult to remove (but much easier to remove than the Otterbox Defender)
Build materials are not as high-end as those found in an Otterbox case
Summary
I contacted Trident, asking if this case has any known manufacturing flaws, in regards to the top portion of the case being off in their measurements. To describe the problem: on the left and right of the headphone jack flap, there are two tabs that are meant to lock into the top portion of the case. Mine do not lock, and there is a large gap between the case and the phone. If you touch the top portion of the case, it makes a displeasing clicking sound. The answer I got back was, "Oh, sorry your case isn't working out. We can RMA it." But then, I don't want to continue sending in the case, only to receive similarly defective units. Basically, I worry that in a hard spill, not having that top portion of the case secured shut, could send your phone flying.
If you could try this case out in a store, and it fits perfectly, I'd say that it's a great case for someone who is worried about a hard drop, but finds the Otterbox Defender to be comically large and ugly. This case is actually surprisingly slim, given the protection it offers. So if it all worked as it should, I would be keeping it. But seeing that the snaps are not only off in measurement - but also - seem like they are structurally inefficient, I'm going to assume that this is simply a design flaw. Perhaps they designed the case without having access to the device?
I might try grabbing a second one. I'm unsure, though. Has anyone else used this case at all?

I just got the Trident Kraken AMS last night as an early Xmas gift. Ive had very good results with Trident products in the past and this case is solid. On the Kraken the front is the same as Cyclops but its a 3 piece rather than 2 and bulkier. Its not a daily use case though, I have a bike mount system for mountain biking. If you don't mind the extra bulk get the Kraken. My daily case is a TPU.

Two cases arrived at my door today and I quickly opened them. The Ebestsale Transparent Silicone Case is actually a TPU case and not silicone. This case is made of the exact same material as the previous case I reviewed, but has its own differences.
The package came with one screen protector, one piece of cloth and the other case I ordered from this company. After bending this TPU case, I quickly noticed that it is much sturdier than the previous Walsontop TPU case. It is not very easy to deform as drastically as the Walsontop. Putting this on the One gave one of the most satisfactory sounds I look for when fitting anything into something else, the snap. This case clicks on the One and fits very well. It fits so well that you can still feel the sturdiness of the One. There isn't a mushy feel that I get when using rubber cases.
While it provides a great fit, removing it will chalk up the sandstone black's back plate. It's no worry as you can rub it down to erase it, but it may get difficult to remove it without experiencing many of these soft scratches (Baby Skin White users will not experience this).
The slots for all the ports on the side are much larger and more comfortable then the previous Walsontop TPU case. The power button and volume buttons are much more comfortable to press, but not perfect. The rubber around the slots do not move around very easily and quickly return to its original position if it's disturbed. It seems that the company that manufactured this case spent more time cutting the holes for the ports. Each one is cut in irregular asymmetrical shapes whereas the Walsontop's holes were all symmetrical.
The sides are raised and cover more of the bezel which is great when taking damage from certain heights. After doing what I call a "quarter test", where I place a quarter under the screen and move the phone, the quarter remains stationary. It's difficult to see any of the fingerprints on the sides in my case because the blue color hides it well. As far as I know, this blue is the only color Ebestsale sells for this type of case. Overall, this case was a great buy and perhaps the one that will be on my phone if the Nikilin hard case arriving tomorrow doesn't change that. This case is definitely worth more than it costs.

I think that is going to be a major cosmetic issue with our phones. Imagine how the back will look after 12 months of serious use.
Hi all,
I'm thinking about picking up all three available NagaBee Cases from Amazon. It's the NageBee Snap-On Premium Cowhide Leather, Hybrid Case Premium [Heavy Duty] Defender [Dual Layer], and NageBee [Natural Wood] Snap-On Premium Canvas Fabrics [Heavy Duty]. Details here:

Any thoughts from others on this? Would you order one of them for your phone?
Thanks

Nagbee Natural Wood Case
I have the wooden one, and in my opinion, it is too thick. Not only does it not give you enough protection on the front, but the screen protector included is trash. The black border on the tempered glass gets rid of some areas of the screen. The "wood" is not even wood, I partially punctured the wood with my nail lol. I do not recommend this case, also, if you want photos, I can provide some.

Glad you tested it first. I came a second from pulling the trigger on this. I love the case I got. The feel is brilliant and it protects the back/sides/corners, but finding a good screen protector is a ***** atm. They all have that black ring or nothing but bubbles.
All, here are the pics of my 3 cases. I can't test on phone until it comes in tomorrow.
So far the leather is my favorite followed by the black 2 piece and last is the wood/cloth.

Well after using the leather case on the phone all day I can't say that I'm impressed with the overall mold of the case. I do like the leather design and if the wood was flatter I would dig that one too but I think there are too many flaws with the case mold.
So first off the headphone jack cutout is too small for almost all of my headphone cables. I will have to drill out the hole to use the headphone jack to it's full potential. Next off the case doesn't provide much coverage protruding past the screen. I prefer to have a bit of wiggle room in this dept. Next the edge or lip of the case that rests against your ear when talking on the phone is too sharp, even for plastic. Just catching my fingers on the lip feels sharp. Finally the back of the case is super deep, like Otter Box Defender Series deep. I'll bet that nothing will ever touch the camera lenses due to this depth but it does add a ton of bulkiness to the phone.
On the positive side the buttons feel great, all the cutouts appear to be perfect, and I do love the leather/cork or wood/cloth designs. I think more phone case manufacturers need to adopt these styles of cases.
If you'all have any questions for me let me know.
Cheers
