Video Review: Case-Mate Barely There Matte Black - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hey fellas,
I got my hands on the Case-mate barely there recently and wanted to share my thoughts on it. It's a snap on the back case which is made for someone who wants to keep the device as slim as possible, so it won't offer much protection either. It features a matte coating which is comfortable to hold & feel. Ports and cutouts are properly aligned and for the most part, it is what you would expect from Case-Mate.
Check out the full review below:

I am currently using the Barely There and I love it. I also have an unopened Ringke. So I am guessing I should just stick with the Barely there and not bother with the Ringke because I can sell it easier being brand new in the box? And besides the included screen protector, any benefits to the SGP case? I love both casemate and SGP cases so I was thinking about trying out the ultra thin series too.

Nice review! I started a thread about getting this case, and it's more attractive in real! ahh can't decide!

I kind of compare between Rinke Slim LITE and SGP Ultra Thin Air, and Rinke has a strap included. I don't think I would ever use the strap, but it's something better than Ultra Thin Air. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764307

The SGP case is, as the name suggest, EXTREMELY THIN! It is hard to believe at first, because it feels like a thin piece of glass that can break at any moment. But that leads to the closest 'naked' feel you'll find. The matte coating is a little different too, more rubbery than smooth.

I have this case and I like it also keeps the phone protected and slim they way the phone was meant to be

nice review. thanks!

Looking for thin case & screen protector for GS2

Just got my new phone in the mail I was going go case-less but its just too pretty and I know I'll ruin it so I'm looking for something lightweight and thin, some protection would also be nice.
Also what is the best screen protector to use with cases?
I can definitely recommend the "casemate barely there" case from future shop. by far the best case i have owned. Barely recognize its there.
I like the SGP Neo Hybrid case.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I think I'll be getting the SGP Ultra Capsule or Silke.
Of my: Otterbox Commuter (awesome quality + protection, but bulky), SGP Neo Hybrid (Meh...), Barely There, and Incipio, I'd recommend the Incipio (1st choice) or Barely There (2nd) for slenderness, quality + a degree of protection.
Screen protector: I can recommend the Phonedevil one that is on Amazon, about £8 for two. Great imo, the reviews on Amazon are also very positive.
Case: Can't really help there, I'm using the Casemate Tough which is good, but thick and bulky
Thanks guys I'll be going with the CM barely there a lot of people recommend it.
Still need to check out the screen protectors you guys suggested.
Nillkin Hard Cover
I recommend the Nillkin Hard Cover over the Casemate Barely there case.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NILLKIN-Har...559046?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f108c22c6
I feel like the Nillkin Hard Cover covers alittle more of the corners of the phone over the Barely There case. Both cases are "barely there" but the Nillkin's got alittle more corner coverage.
Just another option for you...good luck with your purchase!

Had it on my Galaxy S1, and now on the S2. Can't beat them when you want to retain the Galaxy's sexy profile.
I went with the Zagg full body. Protection, and barely noticeable.
---------- Post added at 08:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:57 PM ----------
Should also note that if you are using the stock car dock, its tight. Very tight. the zagg allows it to fit without pulling in and out of the case every time you are in the car.
I got the D30 case it's really good... Feels good in your hand..

+1 CaseMate barely there, friend has it, barely notice it, keeps the thinness. If you want a few mm thicker, the Incipio and also the SGP UltraCapsule are TPU, bit more protection than the BarelyThere

Searching for a SLIM case

Hi, i'm searching for a SLIM case, but unlike the Barely There from Case-mate i want it to fully cover the phone.
Is there any around them? my research got no results
i have a ringke slim case on mine right now. fits the oem extended battery, its a pretty nice case and very slim

It does not cover the phone
try the sgp neo hybrid, its the thinnest dual layer case ive seen. i cut out the backing now so i use it as a bumber case.
hey im like you. i love the barely there case but i also had a problem with it offering just partial protection.
i ended up with the sgp ultra hybrid case. and i couldnt be happier. very slim. very well built. the only thing it doesnt cover is the screen. doesnt add much bulk.
i also have the sgp ultra capsule.. its just too shiny looking for me.

Just got the alpine white ringke slim case. Best case I have come across. Looks amazing!

I recommend either one of these. The Ultra Hybrid may look thick, but it's actually thinner than the Cruzer Lite one as much to my surprise.
Ultry Hybrid:

Cruzer Lite:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH8TPxSFt6w&list=UUbfFMjyhflN4xFOFEmPj-wg&index=6&feature=plcp
I like the cruzer lite, it adds a thick enough "lip" over the face of the phone that setting it down doesn't allow your screen to contact the surface you set it on. Plus it's only $9.

I also have this case and I really like it. It's matte, though, so it's not exactly grippy, if you're looking for that.
thinnest and uber cheap case
Hi there,
I'm not quite sure how thin you would like your case to be, but I recently discovered a couple of cases on ebay that may fit your description.
LINK: I'm sorry, I am a relatively new user on XDA and I can't post link just yet. However, you can ebay a seller called "smokydiscount" and keywords: 0.2mm Ultra thin case for galaxy nexus prime. Otherwise, just PM me.
MY OPINION: I really like these cases and they're great for scratch protection. As for drops and bumps, these cases are negligible; your phone will probably be just as damaged as compared to without a case.
PROS:
- Incredibly thin. It's as if your phone doesn't have a case on it
- WILL protect the back from any scratches. You can leave your phone on a rough surface without any concerns
- Very cheap
CONS:
- There is no front lip, meaning if you put your phone face down on a rough surface, beware. However, the case does come with a screen protector which is fairly decent (ALMOST to the same standard as Brando screen protectors)
- For some reason it does make the phone more slippery. The plastic doesn't provide any grip
- The case is very fragile when it is not applied on your phone. I had to get a replacement sent out because the case came to my house cracked, most probably due to the postage and handling.
Despite the cons, this is definitely one of my favourite cases. Check them out.
TPU rubber case with stand on amazon only 3 bucks and it covers everything , just need a screen protector

I just just got the Speck Pixel skin HD, and its pretty great. Thinner profile than my otter box commuter, yet it feels much better. It looks pretty good, but I don't know if it was really worth $30

Luvvitt Clearview Hybrid Case

I thought I would pass along a recommendation for the Luvvitt Clear view Hybrid Slim Case. It is in my view a good alternative to the Spigen Ultra Hybrid and the Ringke Fusion, both of which I tried and both of which came up short I think. (Sharp edges on the Ringke, for instance. )
The Luvvitt case is clear, a feature I favor as I have the white Nexus 5. It fits superbly, has a nice grip - not slippery and not sticky - and a nice minimalist look and feel, with just enough cushioning and protection.
I can't post links yet but it is on Amazon. I hadn't heard of this brand before (they do make an i-phone case) or seen it on these boards so I thought I would share.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
They are not in the same class as those you are comparing with. The Ringke and Spigen will absorb shock it the phone takes a fall. The Luvvitt seems to have very little impact resistance.
However I do agree that it looks really nice.

I have all three. The Luvvitt is made of the same materials as the Spigen and Ringke. It isn't any "cheaper" in terms of either quality or price.

The case looks really nice.
OP, Please post pics when you can.
I don't see any difference in protection between this and the other cases mentioned in this thread.
This TPU case should do the same as the Cruzerlite TPU case shown in that Youtube video drop test. Which is impressive.
It'll do a great job protecting.
And btw to the naysayers, no case will protect the screen if the phone falls at the correct angle and hits a sharp rock. You would need one of those armored cases that has a plastic shield screen in front to stand a chance of surviving such a fall.
Looks great! But I have to agree that ALL clear cases, expensive or not will turn yellow. It will be gradual. I have had tpu hybrids in the past and the tpu part will, in time turn yellow. This does not mean this is a bad case, it looks decent for the price of protection. Just don't expect it to 'not' turn yellow.
ahhh.... i hate it when TPU case cover the buttons, makes it so difficult to press.

For me it's the opposite.
I don't like cases that don't cover the buttons.
The more protection from falls the better. Covered buttons have never been an issue for me where it becomes an issue.

However i found this case really great...probably the Spigen is better but there is the unknown of the flash in the new revision (also if the hole now is only one and not two like the previous one), now i don't know what cover to choose...i really like the spigen but i'm afraid for the flash...what are the flash perfomances with this case? Oh and also i wait a pic with the phone in the case!

[Q] Best case?

I bought the Nexus 5 and it's amazing. I've already got a screen protector but now I'm still looking for the right case. My first choice was the official bumper case but that isn't an option anymore because it isn't only unavailable at the moment, but most of the people also say it starts to peel off very quickly. So I kept looking for a case that could satisfy my needs. I want to have a good-looking case that delivers the protection the N5 needs, but doesn't add too much bulk so it wouldn't look like some kind of dragon. I also want to mention that I'm not looking for any kind of flip cover because a phone is a phone and not a book.
So after some research I've come down to 2 cases that both give a good impression. Spigen Case Slim Armor and Spigen Case Neo Hybrid. They both have a fairly good reputation so I really can't decide which one to get. I also don't really know the difference. I guess they are the same in thickness. The Slim Armor one probably has better protection and from what I've read isn't as slippery as the Neo Hybrid one, but that case probably also has nice features.
Which one should I get? Or are there better cases available? Thanks in advance!

I have bought like a whole load of cases and found that my favorite case is a simple TPU case like Distronic's cases (I like the black one, the white/clear/frosted design gets discolored over time) they don't make the phone overly bulky, provide pretty good drop protection and are pretty cheap. I have owned Spigen's slim armor and the slim armor with the flip cover and while they are great cases they made the phone a little more chunky than I liked.

+1 for diztronic
It adds fairly good protection but less bulk than most cases(not counting hard shells). Buttons are easy to press and it looks and feels good. It's cheap too!
I've also had spigen neo hybrid but found it too bulky and slippery. Buttons and looks were nice tho.
Btw clear diztronic is out of stock and they dont sell it anymore.
I'd stay away from hard cases such as the ringke slim or spigen hard crystal shell as they scratched up my phone
+1 for soft
Go with the slim armor. One of the best cases I've had, and I've had A LOT of cases. Its a lot more comfortable to hold over the neo hybrid.

My favorite case by far is the Magpul Field. https://store.magpul.com/product/MAG474/cases
Magpul looks awesome dude. Not those clear backs. My ringke got scratched up real bad. Neo hybrid looks decent, in fact I'm getting it. Considering a diztronic as well. I-blason is decent too.
I haven't got the specific Spigen cases you're interested in but I do have the Spigen ultra fit and ultra hybrid. I have been using both cases for the past year (the ultra fit mostly because it doesn't add as much bulk as the ultra hybrid) and both are very good cases that I like. However, I recently ordered the Diztronic case and I'm waiting for it to arrive. The reason is I recently used my previous phone with a Diztronic case and it reminded me that I generally prefer good quality TPU cases more. So I decided I may as well get a Diztronic case for my Nexus 5. As you may see, I agree with the others in recommending the Diztronic case.
I have the Spigen Case Slim Armor, a Tech21 case, and a TPU case, I prefer the Tech21, as a matter of fact I dropped my phone just the other day, and it landed flat on it's back, I thought for sure the screen would be shattered, but nope, all is well.
The Tech21 seems to have more of an "Air cushion" between the case and back of the phone.

Well, I have a pretty cheap one at the moment, this one (it's indeed not a very pretty one). The case barely adds any bulk but it doesn't give the safest feeling. I'm protected for any scratches but I don't think these kind of cases absorb impact very well, so I'll probably still go for something chunkier but then I'll at least know I'm pretty safe.

These cases are probably really well-made but I don't think they protect that good if you compare it to the bulkier cases, definitely not against drops.

I'm using spigen case
i get it for free from Nexus gift pack
It's nice, and it feels like the original back of nexus
Had both the Neo Hybrid and the Slim Armor and prefer the Neo Hybrid.
I found that in comparison to the Neo Hybrid, the Slim Armor added too much bulk to the phone. The back of the NH feels better (rubber, a bit like the original back of the phone) while the back of the SA is more slippery (metal). The buttons on the SA required too much force to press and you don't really feel any feedback while pressing.
The only reason I would choose the SA over the NH is for the extra protection, but for me the NH offers more than enough protection (dropped it a few of times indoor and outdoor, only some minor scruffs on the corners of the case).
Didn't Spigen used to sell just the outer band for the neo hybrid? That way you can have a few different colors if you like

I am using only MOFI Shell bumpers (warious colors, not clear) and i am perfectly satisfied (or a NILLKIN Frosted series). They are so thin and really like some shell (MOFI's thinner).
SPIGEN seems like a pretty fat piece of a rubber.

Hard to tell. I think Spigen may be little better. Nillkin is thinner and cheaper. I use Nillkin for some time on many phones. If some of them got hard drop, then Nillkin case can break but not the phone - it make sense. So the case took the impact. Phone was never harmed.
Matter of a taste. I don't like "truck rubber" on my phone.
Maybe Nillkin Clear bumer are the best choice for someone who want to make phone backward stay transparent.

Sorry I thought you are from India.
In India, Spigen has not launched any case yet.
I have the Ringke, great case, but the back cover of the black A50 does not look so hot with the transparent back of the case. I bet it's fine with the other colors. It looks great otherwise, fits nicely and the phone seems well protected. I had slim TPU before (Mumbi) which was okay, nothing special, but I the Ringk feels much more solid, I have no worries the phone would survive a drop.
All the Spigen cases for the A50 are gone from the website, which is pretty strange because like HTCDevil posted, the Liquid Crystal (which wasn't even on the website) is still available from Amazon in Europe, but not the rugged or slim armors (that were on the website before).
I think the A50 is a killer phone and they will sell a ton of them, which might lead to more cases in the future. I'm very happy with the Ringke at the moment, though.
