Someone ported the Jelly Bean keyboard to ICS! Only problem is there's no user dictionary. Still, full word prediction is here.

Works well for me. I like it.

Seems like it still a little rough around the edges.

Wondering if these can be installed on our phones, and if not, how difficult would it be to port?

I hear the JB animations are smooth :cyclops:
Lol some animatios are implemented into custom roms already and some apps are available.. Check the themes n appz section? If its not there its not on our phone yet

I'm too in love with paranoid android right now... and she gets jealous when I look at other roms

I switched over to AOKP and gave the JB transitions a shot. Works beautifully!!! Some animations are slow, but Spare Parts app helps with that
Have yet to try the gapps
Swipe style typing is horrible & predictive text is poor to say the least. Anyone have better experience ?
Second that. It is complete crap. Realized that pretty quickly. Installed Swype beta the day after I got the phone and haven't looked back.
Just did the same....night and day

Swype Beta, for the win!
I honestly don't know how anyone uses anything but Swype...

I love Swype but since I just got the phone figured I'd try stock keyboard. It was unbearable!

Definately a giant fail for Sammy, the kb blows. I've been using Swift 3 and loving it. I tried stock as well but couldn't deal with it for more than 1 week.
I agree the default keyboard is horrible. I've been using SwiftKey 3 and it's great, I highly recommend it.
Definitely agree, probably the worst keyboard ever.

I've been using AnySoftKeyboard for years since it supports foreign language keyboards. Also, I prefer peck style keyboards to swype style.

SwiftKey 3. Get it
The only, albeit strange, reasons that keep me using the samsung keyboard over swype is the haptic feedback and the typing sounds. The haptic feel of the swype keyboard doesn't feel as precise as the sammy one no matter what i set the length to. And don't get me started on the irritating key press sound...
Jelly Bean keyboard port FTW!
Jelly Bean keyboard is the best keyboard I've ever used, Swiftkey and Swype included.

Samsung should of just pre installed ics keyboard
Apple just give up the IPHONE sucks deal with it.
I believe it's an option under Languages and Input settings.

I use SwiftKey 3.01. Customizable in skins, portrait/landscape keyboard height, typing style, and keyboard layout. It also supports the use of up to three languages and their keyboards/dictionaries at once, learns from Facebook/Twitter/Gmail/RSS/Reader/SMS messages, and it is scarily accurate in predictions.

+1!!!
I gave up on Swype when Dragon took over the speech recognition instead of passing it to Google (which is loads better than any other dictation.) I tried SwiftKey for a long time to give the prediction time to learn about my style but I never ended up liking it as much as Swype. Then I tried the stock ICS keyboard and was very impressed. I could type super fast (faster than I could Swype) without paying close attention with great results and the post-typing word correction tools worked really well for when my typing was so bad that the keyboard couldn't figure me out. The JB keyboard continues to improve the stock ICS keyboard experience.
How can I get the stock ICS keyboard on stock rooted 404. I despise the Samsung keyboard. I tried taking the apk from Jedi knight but Im pretty sure I'm missing a few libs and something else.

What I did (and it worked just as well) go to the App Market and download Jelly Bean / ICS Keyboard FREE.
Or here http://db.tt/byR9FljD youre welcome. Install like normal..
I just received my Jelly Bean update and I am thrilled. The phone is faster and much smoother, Love it. I also noticed the update came with Swype keyboard and the stock Samsung keyboard received a swype update as well.
I had previously downloaded the swype downloader app before I had received the update, did the Swype update come with the Jelly Bean update? I am not talking about the swype update that the Samsung keyboard had received but a seperate Swype Keyboard.
So I have two Swype keyboards, one that was updated from the Samsung keyboard and the seperate Swype keyboard. I'm confused just reading back to myself what I just wrote, I hope anyone who reads this can understand it.
Love that Jelly Bean with plenty of Butter.
Vinny
Yea, you get Swype with the ota jelly bean update

Thanks for the imfo. The stock Samsung keyboard also has swype built into it, never used it because I always used my paid Swiftkey keyboard. Thought I would do some experimenting and was amazed to find that the stock Samsung keyboard also had swype built into it. It works pretty good as well.
Thanks again,
Vinny

The Samsung keyboard has something similar to Swype functionality, but trust me, it's no Swype. Swype is just better since it's been out for like 4-5 years? More time to work out the kinks and have better interactions. Except it doesn't scan my contacts name as well as it use to... eh that's probably why it is beta.
Fix one thing break another.

After upgrading from stock FL24 to stock GB27, and doing a full wipe, the Epic 4G Touch seems to have settled down, and is turning in solid, reliable performance. Sure, the battery usage seems to be slightly higher, but the performance gains seem to outweigh this very modest hit.
However, one thing in the new build is getting under my skin: I hate the new Swype. I hate the beta Swype. Is there any way to get the version of Swype that was on the ICS builds of this phone? In particular, long-press delete no longer deletes whole words, and adding words to dictionary is a total crapshoot.
Anybody know if the old Swype apk is compatible with Jelly Bean? Should I bother trying to isolate and repack, from an old ROM? I'd like to stay in unrooted stock, if possible (for superstitious stability reasons).
Cheers,
gobaers
You should test drive Touch Pal from play store, I was using this before jelly bean on gingerbread.
I still use it but I'm taking a liking to the the Samsung keyboard that comes with jelly bean.
The pridect text on Touch Pal is spot on and quick with a good variety of words to follow up.

I'll take a look, but I've found that none of the Swype-like keyboards out there are as accurate as Swype itself, including the new Jelly Bean keyboard and Swiftkey.
I suspect that the stock Samsung keyboard is just Swype dressed up; it's too bad I don't like that dressing.
Anybody know about the ICS Swype? If not, I'll just download the FL24 stock ROM and start messing with APKs.
I was using swype until I came across Touch Pal, that's when I converted over to TP.

Latest Swype that came with the last update. Sorry, not from the Swype website. I'm currently using version 1.3.8.10895, which is included in the new source updates. If you don't have it, and want it simply download one of the new source builds and pull the apk . Works like a dream!

That would be nice (long press delete) on the Samsung keyboard. I like that its light on the os, wifey likes it better than TP.

Just wanted to post an update:
The latest version of Swype, 1.5, available from the Play Store for $1 has fixed the delete button and add word to dictionary behaviors. Long press delete now deletes whole word.
Well worth the $1, IMO.
