I always use a gel case on my galaxy s yet the back cover still has scratches and sort of smudges which don't go away. It's hard to explain. How do I get rid of them? Where can I get a different range of back covers?

If you're using a case and the battery cover now has scratches, I'd probably blame the case. It could be rubbing against the battery cover and scratching it.
You can purchase battery covers on eBay. Just search! They should be fairly cheap. If you find any good ones, post the links.
Same problem here.
I have to clean up silicone case and battery cover everyday to avoid scratches.

It's probably just the material of the case, as I'm sure not everyone with a case on their phone has to worry about and deal with this.
Personally, I don't use a case and have zero scratches on my phone, screen or body.

Same here, maybe the rubber casing is getting debris inside that are eventually scratching the back?

Yep. This is exactly what's happening.
It's not just scratches though. On the pattern bit in the battery theres some sort of staining. It's hard to explain what it is. l suppose it looks like dried glue

anyone use screen protector?
I am using the screen protector and I can say that it is very first thing a man should do to the phone. It is very hard to put one, as the smallest piece of dirt (between the screen and protector) is seen as big bubble ... Order the cheapest ten pack from Ebay because you will destroy couple of them before you install it perfect.. I had those on my sgs for year, and it was scratched as hell..

it is grease, comes from hands. Clean it worth HIGHLY DILUTED alcohol or wet wipe then with microfiber cloth..

Sent from my GT-I9000T using xda premium
I don't think it's grease because it simply does not come off. And the corners of the screen always attract dust
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've tried using baby wipes but it didn't come off
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Well if it doesn't come off, what the heck did you put on your phone? Maybe it's a questonably cheap case and some weird plastic/rubber/alien residue from it has stained your phone? Provide pictures maybe?
Sounds strange, especially since you can't clean it off.
It looks like dried up snot lol but it isn't. I can't be the only one who also finds that the screen attracts too much dust especially in the corners and edges

I don't notice dust at all on my device, ever (unless I'm in working in a really dusty place, which happens, but I generally don't have my phone on me when I am). This could be just a geographical difference though.
Fingerprints are another story. Those are annoying. Dust, however, I don't even notice.

The Sgs screen is gorilla glass which is scratch proof so does not need a protector.
It is possible to scratch with the right tool but the pressure needed will go straight threw any protector too.

Same here
I took the cover off and scrubbed it with a little soap,no effect.
If you look closely, you can see that those places are somewhat 'eroded',like somethings eaten away at it.
Maybe moisture build up?
Hi everyone,
My wife's side cover that covers the mini usb and hdmi fell off and we do not know where. Is this something that can be replaced? Is this something that is pretty useful or will she be ok without one? Thanks
Sent from my Sony Xperia Ion using Tapatalk 2.
Personally, I have been tempted to remove mine. It's not as annoying as the one on the X10, but sometimes it gets in the way...particularly in the smart dock. Does the missing cover detract from the aesthetic appeal? I would imagine that it would be more hassle than it is worth to replace.

Mine got lost last night, does anyone know where to find replacement?
So I attempted to put a screen protector on my phone that required water and I pretty much fried my screen. I'm pretty sure I need to replace the LCD at this point but is there anything else I could possibly do without having to resort to that? Thanks.
How can you fry the screen by applying a screen protector , it's a sealed unit - even the speaker holes are waterproof.

Hi,
You could try putting it in a box of rice - sometimes that can help draw the water out. Just make sure to cover the 3.5 jack, you dont want rice going down there.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

It happens to be before too. I remove the water using a hair dryer. I believe the water enter the screen due to the gap at the bottom of the screen.

You'll have this with any chrome-like finish on a phone unfortunately. I've got iphones, an ipad and three android devices, all with chrome bezels and all with fine swirls and scratches...

Happened with note 1 so this time around I put best skins ever wrap around it before putting it in the case.

Yup -- it is what it is.
Mine scratches easily and has flaked off in some spots like near the head phone jack.
I didn't bother with skins I figured after the glue hardened it would pull the paint off anyways if I tried to remove it so I don't see the point.
Cases are enough for me as I can't see it anyways with one on.
Stop worrying, it will happen some way or another and enjoy your great phone!

On my previous phone (an Infuse), I had cracked chrome near the micro-USB jack. But my Note 2, after almost three months so far, with no case, has no scratches on either the glass or the chrome.
I belive it is in the design. Samsung intended it to be soft plastic in order to absorb shock. So any lil bump can nic the paint off.
I put my Skinomi on as soon as I got it. Sooo, hopefully not.
Yea mine has a few battle scars. I wish that samsung would up their build quality a bit. Coming from an HTC Inspire (Milled Aluminum Body) the cheap plasticy feel was quite a shock. But overall I love the phone and eventually got over all the plastic.

Someone asked about fragility of G Pro

Im also a bit more concerened about phone durability. I take care of my things but I want a little more cushion for when accidents happen. Is the OG Pro just as fragile as the s4? Has anyone managed to accidentally crack theirs?

Looking on it in near sight I've already noticed one thing. The glass doesn't cover full size of the phone but instead has .2mm spare space to the edges of phone. Also the glass in not surrounded by banking board. Also the glass has beveled edge, about 70° sharp.
So I presume that the glass would not crack even if the phone would be dropped from 6 feet height. Unless of course it would be dropped flat fall on screen
Another indirect proof of that is here. Watch Note 2 has cracked glass when G Pro doesn't have severe damages
If you think this device is drop proof you are delusional. I haven't watched the linked video nor do I need to. The front is glass and could crack from a 6" fall. Many things factor in here including luck.

Well, someone eventually will test it, people drop their phones here and there.
And also I'll attach here link to this topic Optimus G = UNBREAKABLE
Well no phones drop proof obviously but ive had 2 friends that had lg phones and ive had one myself and I can tell u theyre probably the some of the best built on the market. My connect was dropped, thrown, stepped on, kicked and all manner of torment and worked like the day I bought it till the day I traded it in on this. Ive seen lg phones survive multiple (so many I lost count) drops that would have sent a samsung or htc device to the scrap heap...

Exactly. My wife has a One X. She has dropped, thrown it onto a hard floor with force, and let's our 3 old play with it like it's his. It has a ton of scratches, but hasn't broken. Some were saying when it released that it was super fragile. I guess since hers has been abused it must be the toughest phone ever made. Right? No, she's been extremely lucky.

I'm assuming by patio you mean stone/brick/concrete/pavers, right? If that's the case, most phones wouldn't be too fond of an 18" drop.
Yeah, but I've had other phones hit asphalt from 4-5 feet high on the corner and survive with only nick in the bezel. My post is just a warning that this phone is definitely not "drop proof". I've only had the OGP for four days and already have to shell out $ for an insurance claim. Sad thin is my case I ordered is supposed to show up today.
