Hi I'm using the latest Franco kernel and wondering if I am able to use CIFS manager to mount an SMB share. Basically I am able to see the smb share via AndSMB and ES File Explorer, but whenever I try to mount using CIFS Manager or MountManager I am not able to complete to process. My google searching has led me to think this may be a problem with the kernel, but I'm not sure.
When I attempt to mount using "10.1.1.1/share" as a share path in CifsManager I get the error "mount: No such device" ... CifsManager has superuser access.

Hi there!
My goal is to playback any content files from my home (local network) NAS on KindleFire tablet. Current ROM is CyanogenMod RC5.
Is there an easy way to AUTOMATICALLY mount my network share?
The only thing I've got working is manual mount with CIFS Manager. After reboot I have to open the app and activate my share. This sucks.
- which files do I need (cifs.ko ....?), found tutorials for other androids than CM, so the linked files may be incompatible
- how to install them
sorry for bad english I speak german
Thanks so far
Download es file explore, you can open cifs and save them.
Needs root.

Other apps still don't see the network files, like photo and video players. I know it is possible to mount network shares into local folders. But at boot without having to open the cifs app?
Not sure if this will help:

I found all kinds of stuff on google that may help...

I found some threads explaining a procedure for google Nexus 10. You need a custom ROM + kernel with built-in CIFs module. So it is definitely possible to mount shares automatically, even with JB 4.2.2.
My problem is I have no idea if a ROM, designed for other Tablet, would run on KindleFire2.

Not sure if i was cery clear, ES file explorer will save a cids file share location including cerdentials, from thre you can open any type file your device is able to open like photos, word docs, music, etc. Its not necessary to copy the file to the device, you can open it straight from the cids file share location. Same with various cloud offerings like box.com and dropbox.

Tried to load cifs modules via mount manager, no success. Now looking for cifs enabled kernel. In the above linked thread they say cifs.ko is included in CM10 but didnt find any in my installation.
*bump*, any News?
I'm looking for mounting to a mount point like /mnt/cifs too, accesing smb through external file managers works, but i need a destination for a app (Manga Watcher Application), which uses the Basic or a own simple simple file Manager.
I tried CifsManager and Mount Manager, I can see the share and navigate through, but no luck with writing.
In System/lib/modules are some modules, but no cifs.ko,
How can i try to build cifs.ko in my kernel?
I'm using CM 10.2 latest nightly with Kernel 3.072, Android 4.3 from Hashcode.
But i have not 10 posts to ask in developement thread :< ^^
Thanks in advance,
Tim.
Hi not sure if this is the section to ask but i need to ask for some help.
I have a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5210 (the atom model)
I have rooted the device and installed latest bindroid kernel (v3) but can't mount my SMB share from my linux server
i receive the error.....
"MOUNT: invalid argument"
i have tried the following so far
1: turn on all prefs in cifs manager ie. load cifs module... load insmod etc
2: tried various urls \\192.168.1.1\share //192.168.1.1/share smb:\\192.168.1.1\share and vice versa
3: installed busybox(well ii think its installed correctly)
still cant get it to mount.
In ES file explorer the folders load without problem so i guess its something to do with the cifs/smb part within the android system or cifsmanager
anyone who can shed some light on this would be most appreciated for the help...
ps not sure if i have cifs.ko and if its even needed (if so do i need a cifs.ko for x86 64?)
hi,
get somebody the cifs manger working?
if yes can you help on the how-to.
many thanks
adddy
I have the same issue. 4.2.2! My best guest is the same problem as in V4.3 Google had block us! No more SMB Mount. Hopefully some body will find an answer.
But for now you can use ES Explorer and use the Lan search to get to your network SMB. I use this method to watch my movies.

Hello,
I want to mount a shared Folder of my Fritzbox.
I'm searching for a while now, I found out i need the cifs.ko module but all i can find is for other devices, isn't there a way for the M8 despite a custom kernel?
As far as is remember i managed it with my One S with something like "busyboy mount -t cifs //Ip.ip.ip.ip/sharename /mnt/name -o user=xxx, password=www" But all i get is "failed: No such device"
ElementalX supports CIFS: http://goo.gl/jFKhfy
You can use ES file Explorer (without cifs module) to enter the drive of your Fritzbox, if it's a smb mount in your network
In android 4.4 I used the ElementalX kernel and cifs manager to mount samba shares so I could watch videos from WiFi.
Then I've upgraded to Lollipop, rooted, installed the ElementalX 3.2 kernel but when I try to mount a dir with Cifs Manager and Mount Manager in my tablet, it says it has mounted the share sucessfully but when I try to open the files I want all I find is an empty folder. I tried looking at the folder through the Terminal Emulator or through my PC but the folder is empty in all of them.
Is there any fix for this? Does anyone know if it's a kernel problem or a Lollipop problem?
Download terminal emulator and run the two commands below
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0

No, I'm not trying to mount an usb otg device. I'm trying to mount a samba share using the Wi-fi network. I can mount usb sticks using otg just fine.
What is the exact path of the directory?

I tried these two mount points:
Mount point: /storage/emulated/legacy/cifs/Teste
Mount point: /mnt/cifs/Teste
Can you get to it from es file explorer/lan? I watch vids from a nas drive and windows samba shared folders all the time. If the folder opens and you click on a file, es fx will give a choose menu to open the file with MX player or others if installed.

Anyone successfully mounted a cifs share on 7.1.2 that's visible to all apps?
I tried patched cifs manager and --master-mount command from terminal, but all I get is an empty folder.
My setup:
Nexus 5x on PureNexus 7.1.2
FrancoKernel (cifs support)
SuperSU systemless root
I can create the mount but it's just an empty folder and I have received permission on it.
Also tried mount manage, but I can't load the modules in settings.
have you found a solution?
Nope. Seems it's not possible ATM

Works fine with a kernel that supports CIFS.
Fransisco's kernel supports CIFS.
I have tried francos kernel. But it does not work. See.. I'm trying to mount a folder to be used over SMB. I don't now anyone that has successfully used their phone as a SMB server in the scenario I intend to.
To be specific:
I have a PS2 running FMCB (FreMCBoot) for playing backups of my games. I have a HDD shared on my network thru SMB. This runs great.
My main goal is to be able to use a folder inside my Nexus 5x as a portable version of this HDD. To put a few backups and play on my Consoles.
