I've tried JB 4.1 and 4.1.1 and both versions give me the same strange phenomenon . Once in a while the pin code screens pops up and disappears immediately.
Sometimes the pin code screens stays up for a while, entering my pin code gives an invalid pin code message.
Inserting my wife's sim card does not solve this problem.
I do not have this problem running ICS.
Here's a video showing the bug (bit shaky):
Video
Anyone knows about this problem?
radio version?
Did you flash the new radio? I'm also on 4.1.1 and am not seeing this issue, but I didn't update the radio firmware...

I did not flash my radio.
I get the exact same issue. How every its only when I'm using my 0044 global sim. My UK orange sim is fine. Also only happens when I try to make a call.
Currently running JB 4.1.0 port.

I have it when i'm working with the phone. I don't know if it could be the sim card since i don't have this issue with 4.04.
flash the radio
I'd suggest trying to flash the radio firmware & see what happens... New radio is supposed to work with both ICS & JB.

Well that is the latest radio available I'm afraid. If it doesn't work for you, you could always try to downgrade to a previous version and see if that helps in your case...
It's early but so far it did not happen. This might just be the solution.

It seems that flashing the radio did the trick. Thanks for the help.

I will try reflashing the radio once /while I'm flashing 4.1.1 and retest

Well, from the day one i bought my nexus i had the " unknown baseband " in the About screen of my GSM unlocked NEXUS ! ... I dunno how but i left my phone with sim card inserted for some hours and suddenly i noticed that i have a signal and i checked to see the baseband is identified as xxkk6. Now i downloaded the Factory image from google and i flashed it using the Nexus Toolbox and now i dont have any baseband again.
Tried to flash the baseband only again with no luck, It only shows in the fastboot mode but when the phone is in android mode or ( normal mod ) it shows as unknown!
Tried to flash the UGLA4 baseband and the problem persists!
What should i do now ???
Try to flash back to google stock rom via Galaxy Nexus Toolkit from mskip :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
Download google stock image here :
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
Then, using GNex Toolkit again to root, unlock bootloader, etc and flash any baseband from this thread below to test :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345
i already did that and still not working!
I tried flashing the stock rom over and over , ulnocked , rooted and flashed the baseband file alone and nothing works!
i tried to flash ugla4 and xxkk6 basebands but both didn't work and i only can see them in the fastboot mode info
If you can't seem to get it to work, try returning it to the vendor.
As last resort you can try with ODIN it might work...

I can't return it as i bought it with no warranty from an online store in my country ...
Ok, how can i use odin to restore it ! i mean i need a pit file and the other files right? where can i get them from ?
another thing, do i find the files if i extracted the factory image
thank you!
Install cwm and flash the baseband from there. Should work. Search cwm touch in the forum.

That doesn't mean it has no warranty contact your country Samsung warranty service and explain the situation it must have warranty!
I tried flashing it with CWM and nothing seems to work !
Am i the only one who has this problem ? is it hardware related or what because as i said it was working before and i was able to make and receive calls and data ..
It wasn't workning when i first turned on the phone when i bought it but i was playing around with the setting and apps and i remember having an OTA update from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 and after 2 or 3 hours it started to work ! just like that !
btw i flashed the old 4.0.1 (ITL41F) factory image and i updated OTA now to 4.0.2 ICL53F but still unknown baseband
are you using a custom rom on the phone?
if you are...you may have installed a rom for the LTE/CDMA phone and not for your GSM phone..
that is why my baseband said UNKNOWN......I had a LTE and I install a GSM rom by mistake...
try installing a custom GSM rom

here there is a similar thread...somene talk about a corrupted efs partition (try to search something about it), someone just flashed a new radio and solved it
did you also tried to power off the phone and pull the battery for a while? it is a sort of software reset..may work sometimes..
Sounds like your EFS may be corrupted.
There is an app for the I9100 that can repair corrupted EFS's, and it can be done via adb as well, but I'm not sure about the applicability towards the GNex.
Just for reference, I am in no way suggesting you do this, but perhaps someone else can chime in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17587351&postcount=1

I may have jumped the gun a bit, with the i9100 an unknown baseband typically meant a corrupted efs. Do you still have signal and an imei #?

Ok i just checked my imei by *#06# and it shows nothing too !!! no numbers at all !! does it mean the it is efs corrupted partition ???

Likely, but again I haven't messed around with the EFS on the GNex yet. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in and get you sorted out.

Btw i didn't back up anything and i don't know how to fix the EFS thing but i know how to use odin and adb a little bit
i have this issue suddenly with the radio of 4.0.2 and fixed it by flashing 4.0.1 radio.
never mind .. i got another Gnex and everything is fine now !!! u can't fix it but in samsung service centers
I got a white (not sure if thats relevant) GSM Nexus that Ive been using on Orange and I cant get it to find the OTA update to 4.0.2. I know it should be on that as my original GN updated to it as soon as I started it up but this one hasnt and cant seem to find any updates when you tell it to check?
I dont really want to look at messing with the fw until I've had chance to run it in.. any ideas what Im doing wrong?
Could it be anything to do with my Carrier? If I were to try a different providers sim would it make any difference?

How do I do that? Would doing a manual flash mean rooting the device?
you can go to 4.0.4 from 4.0.1, instructions: http://andwise.net/?p=283
do not forget to backup: http://andwise.net/?p=299

Upgrading manuallys not the issue, the problem I seem to have is that my OTA updates arent there
I really dont want to mess with the phone if this is a fault as then returning it wouldnt be possible
as title states, on about phone settings on the phone it says unknown, any way other way to find out what radio the phone currently has?
bump, reason why i wanna know is because i recently flashed another s2 that was still using oem rom from when the phone first came out. when i flashed over to sbean it was showing an unknown baseband but that radio works better in my area than the one i have now on my phone.
So you wanna know what radio sbean came with?

its a Gingerbread based radio, just find out what stock version your phone came with = your radio
also as a side note, even though it says unknown baseband, your phone will still function normally
Please direct me to a thread that explains this if it exists. I am not a newb to flashing but still lack some knowledge about it.
I unlocked my gnex, flashed twrp, flashed superuser, then flash the jan 14th nightly cm10.1 which worked well for me.
Then i decide that i needed to flash a radio for some stupid reason(obviously the wrong one) leading to an endless battle to retrieve my connection.
I used odin to get to ics stock. I am running ics stock and still no service connection. I can see my imei but..... network, mobile network type, my phone number, min, prl version, and iccid are all unknown.
EDIT:
I flashed a different stock rom from odin. Stock ICS. Then flashed the radio that came with it and now..
Voice calls work though i feel like the reception sucks
Sms works great as far as i can tell
4g works great
3g doesnt exist at all.
I think i may just be missing the radio for 3g. (cdma?)
Im afraid of flashing anything before knowing what will actually work but i need 3g.

flash factory image for sprint link
You can't reflash it with the correct radio?
Radios are device specific. Ga02 are latest from sprint and can be found
in the sprint galaxy nexus sourcery thread. If on GSM find latest in that
that thread. Flash using twrp. I lost connection when trying to flash a
Verizon prl once. Flashed radios then spammed the update profile and

After getting it mostly working with ics I flashed cm10.1 but did not flash another radio.
This confuses me because i thought i needed an updated radio to go with the updated rom. From ics to 4.2.1.. But instead of needing another radio it worked the same as it did with ics.
Is the ga02 going to be what i need with cm10.1? Also does it work better from fastboot or twrp? Does it matter if i flash a cdma or an lte radio first?
Ga02 is not needed but it's the latest radio.
They all work but different people prefer different radios.
Many are flashable using twrp. Just got to find them.
Also make sure the radios you flash are for your carrier.
Hello all. I bought Galaxy Nexus L700 a few days ago. It was used.
And I have a problem now. After it boot up, I have a message "no SIM-card, No Service" After I change Mobile Network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA and back to CDMA I have a signal. But no 3G.
I know that this issue is available at Verizon Gnex until you insert SIm card. I'm confused because there is no SIM card.
Does anybody know how can i fix it? I tried flash factory image from link above, but with the same result.
Please, help!

What Stock ICS did you used? Could you give me a link, please?
And how about SIM error now?
Did you find out how to fix 3G? I think you need to get login/pass from carrier.
I currently have radio 1.09.01.0312
Also, I flashed chilly's roms without having gone through the verizon sim unlock process (It was only bugging me on stock rom). Will that prevent me from using a gsm sim overseas? Or should I go back to stock and ask for the code anyway, even though they've stopped prompting me.
Thanks for all of your help
Not sure about the sim unlock but i would make sure it works before you actually have to use it , as for the radio , i think that is the latest and if its not i use it and its fine
