Battery Drain from "dbus-daemon". - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am re-posting this in Q&A due to erroneously posting it in General. I noticed this today after my battery drained in just minutes. In settings under battery something called dbus-daemon drained 67% of the battery. I haven't installed any new apps lately and did not notice any automatic updates for any apps. Any ideas on what it could be that is causing the drain?

not really sure, i have next to no experience with linux but i did like 5 seconds of research
i think it has something to do with init scripts, do you have any scripts running? maybe thats causing it. could also have something to do with blue tooth
apparently it helps apps to communicate with one another.
hopefully some one who is more knowledgeable can help you out

Not sure about any scripts running and blue tooth is on all the time so it connects to my car automatically. Thank you for your help andrewlax, I'm Googling stuff too but your input is appreciated. I'm going to mess around with the Bluetooth and see what happens.

ICS Problems

This has been pretty much been the most frustrating update process of my 4 Android devices that I have owned.
Hoping some of the sharp people here can help me out.
Buttons Not Working - About every third or fourth time I wake my phone my physical buttons do not work. I have to put the phone to sleep and re-wake (sometimes multiple times) to get my phone's buttons to work.
Excessive Battery Drain - Yikes!!! I have uninstalled all my apps, and it is still occurring. Any other ideas to figure out what might be causing this?
Constant 3G data movement - When wi-fi is off, my phone is constantly pushing 3g data up and down....non-stop!
Excessive Phone Heat - My phone is running like a furnace.
Now, I think the last three are probably connected in some way.

That is not ICS you have something running in the background. That would cause all of that. Get a battery monitor app and see what is running

I am glad I am not the only ones with these problems.
It has to be a ICS function that is causing the excessive battery drain.
I currently have no non stock apps installed.
I have noticed that the battery ran from 100% to 25% but battery drain had no slowed considerably....maybe faulty logic in how they are calculating percentages?
The one I would really like to solve is the buttons not working, as there will be lots of battery related threads as more and more people upgrade.

The malfunctioning buttons have been happening to some of us on every ROM, whether it's Gingerbread or ICS. It happens to mine on stock GB or stock I'VE.
Just so you know, you can tap the volume Roche to wake up the buttons. You don't have to cycle the screen. Tap the volume button, wait second or so and you will see the capacitive buttons blink once... That means they've reset. Sometimes you have to do it twice.

Same issue here with the retarded battery life, stock rooted FF18. It's pathetic. Constant battery drain while "sleeping", with wifi on or off. Guess i'll have to try a different ROM.

I tried this yesterday when I was getting terrible battery life. I went from fully charged to dead in 3 hours flat.
I ended up doing a factory reset with sfhub's one-click and am slowly testing and restoring apps to see what's acting as a vampire.

You should try it again if it didn't work!
Not everyone's issue is going to be caused by the same thing. What may work for you may not always work for everyone else. It may be an app or ICS in general causing the issue.

Something is eating my battery

Hi everyone,
I got my Nexus 7, so I thought I could ease on the HOX a bit, but I found that something is still running rampant in the backgroundm but I can't find what it is, even using GSam Battery Monitor. Screen has only been on for 25 minutes, and already at 43%!
I used the HOX as mobile hotspot this morning in the train, when I arrived at work, it had 80% left. Rest of the day I only used it for the occasional whatsapp. It's not even closing time for work now, and it's close to 40%, so something is eating the battery, but I can;t find what!
See enclosed screenshots, I would love to hear some advice!
Kernel, but who knows why?
Also, your crappy mobile signal on the way to work when you had no WiFi... It didn't like that much.
yeah I can get into that, but I don't get why, at the last part, the screen isn't turned on, but it the kernel is switched on ALL the time, I guess something must be running rampant in the background. I've just started going to apps and force stopping a lot of things to be sure...
Try using watchdog, it tells you which app which above threshold, gsam never tells u what the kernel was upto. U can also try better battery stats and check kernel wake locks.
ViperX Goodness
Thanks, I hadn't heard of watchdog yet, installed it! I will buy better battery stats when things get really out of hand

What issues do you have after Bell update

Well I updated because I was thinking it was going to save some battery life, maybe a bit fast (Lets be honest, I may of had a little chubby thinking it was jelly bean, blah so disappointed)
Anyhoo the 2 days that I have had the update Iv noticed worse battery life and for the first little bit it was LAAAGGYY. I called 2 of my other buddies who advised that they did not notice anything laggy but did notice battery life was way worse.
Anyone else?
Brad

No complaints thus far. All bloatware removed and unnecessary widgets frozen using TB.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
I guess I shoulda been more specific. So before the update I was getting a full 13+ hours with normal use. Now I will be lucky to get 8 hours. I actually had to buy a usb charger...I never owned one before this.
I could try rooting, removing and stopping some programs to see if that helps, it's just weird how I lost that much batt. I wonder what changed.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
use can freeze most apps without root/TB in the app manager in settings. Just click the app force stop and freeze. Some may need to have the update uninstalled before freeze options shows up.
Yeah, my battery life is much worse now, need to charge everyday rather than every 1.5 days..
I do notice lag as well. Need to clear my recent apps much more frequently.
Seriously, for me, the only advantage for updating was enabling the Allshare Cast option..

Google Services is draining my battery. Please help.

Hi guys, sorry for another battery thread but I'm sure I am not alone with this.
I had disabled location services in config (totally disabled) and I was getting good battery life I think (always more than 3 h screen time ) but I noticed that some tasker profiles based on location weren't working (obvious). So today I enabled Location but only by WiFi and network (didn't check gps) and after a while I checked battery status and got this. If that is true that drain is really big ! More than battery? It doesn't make sense to me.
What do you think?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It's a relative statistic. It didn't use 37% of battery it used 37% of the battery used.
Thanks. But don't you think its high anyway?

You used 50% of your battery in almost 8 hours and you think that's high? Check your screen on statistic. Most people only get 3-4 hours of screen on for the entire life of their battery.
Perhaps unchecked currents under your Google account, that was causing battery drain for a lot of. Nexus 7 peoples
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Thanks... But I checked and currents is not even associated to my Google account... But it's active... Good guess... Should I disable it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Regardless of whether your screen was on 4 minutes or 4 hours, it should not be that high.. I don't know how to fix it though, because this happens to me on multiple roms.. My only solution is turning Google now off, but it sucks cause I used to use it a lot

That usage is good, but what would happened if I had disable "Location Services"? I would had 37% more battery! Much better!
Screen time when I took the screenshot was about 1:20h.

Yes, looks like the same happens here. And it's very strange that other people don't seem to have that problem, I really not understand.
Today I'm still testing and it's the same, Google Services uses more battery than screen, anyone who knows about electricity knows that if you are using the phone it's almost impossible.
And what is more crazy is that I'm not using GPS, it's always turned off. Locatization is only done by network and wifi.
It's obvious a bug and I hope that they fix it. I prefer not using Google Now than wasting almost 1 hour of screen time.

No you wouldn't have. At most you could potentially have 18% more battery. And that's only if the battery usage statistic is 100% accurate which is never is.
I have an HTC EVO 4g LTE and I have the same problem. I can't find a solution for it and it does it even if I turn off all location, google now, google sync. I think it has something to do with google play, but I don't know for sure.
Any ideas on how to fix it? It's not very common and I don't think it is caused by any one thing. It only started after the JB update btw.

I've discovered that Google services turns on even if you are in airplane mode and you have the wifi on but not connected to a network. I did a factory reset yesterday and nothing. I might have to unroot and take it in if I can't find an answer.

I kept enabled Google Now and Location service and these were the results... My battery life is good even with this drain... Stock 4.2.1 and Franco Kernel...
If I had disabled Location and Google Now I would have had (what location services drained) 30% more! More than 3:30 h of screen time.
So sorry Google ... With this drain I won't keep them enabled...
Its a shame because I used network location to turn on and off WiFi automatically when I was entering and leaving home. Will have to do it manually..

That makes sense but you can always go back. New ROMs are like
new phones. Sourcery with ak is stable and gets good batt life.
The day is about to finish and here are the final results... As predicted disabling Google now and location gave me 0:30 of screen time and more than 1 h idle.
Sad

I solved it
I had this issue with my S4. I found it was the new update of Google play service that caused this issue. The battery usage of google services came back to normal after I delete the update. However, the new hangouts requires the latest google play service.

Looks like the majority of your issues are from GPS requests, I'd try and disable GPS and see if that helps your battery drain...the other next culprit is syncing, you should go into your google accounts and disable the syncs you don't need, like currents etc, along with other apps that want to sync...either disable or set the frequency to be less often...there are other suggestions but chances are you would not want to lose their functionality...you could try and greenify those things (such as viber).

Thanks I finally found the issue.
Now with an hour with on screen time and 14 hour of stand by and my battery is 87%. That's awesome.
If someone is interesting the issue was with the super user app.
It was consuming a lot of the cpu due to the adaway app.
Adaway deleted and the problem is gone.
