G2 or DZ? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm a bit confused on which I have, I got it in the mail with the tmobile rom and g2 hboot fully s-offed, new, only opened to s-off, but it came from hong kong in a black htc old box, it was supposed to be a desire z, but... it has the G2 keyboard, but the dz back and "with htc sense" label.. any clue?

well other than the few things like the back cover wording and the tmobile words on the digitizer or htc or whatever, the only difference that matters is the hboot. it looks like it was a dz but know has a g2 hboot. so now it is a g2 for all that matters

That's what I'm thinking, my biggest hope is that it has the g2 bands, because I'm using straight talk, and think I need the tmo sim

Well if you find that you have an FM radio in it, then it's DZ Hardware.
I don't know how you can tell the bands without first booting up into the phone and checking the about, but if you find it:
Desire Z - Band I: 900/2100 Mhz
G2 - Band IV: 1700/2100 Mhz
Maybe the serial number in the About Phone setting could help.
Though other sources say the G2 covers every bands TMobile uses currently:
Carrier: T-Mobile
2G Technology (Frequencies): GSM (850/900/1800/1900mhz)
3G Technology (Frequencies): HSDPA (850/900/1900/2100mhz)
4G Technology (Frequencies): HSDPA+ (1700/2100mhz)

Not sure, my Radio Serial # is
unknown / HT0A6R202086
and I'm using an actual G2 (but with a DZ hboot) on T-Mobile USA and I get 3G/H

I don't think it matters much, dosent the dz still have the same bands? as in a tmobile sim card should work no problem, find a buddy with tmobile and put the sim in and see what happens

Well battery plates are interchangeable, however it does say HTC along the top of the phone, though the keyboard appears same as my G2. I'm wondering if it's a re-furbished G2 with an DZ Digitizer and housing.
What does your hBoot say ? T-Mobile if I'm not mistaken have specific radio versions.

Here's my hboot

Gsm or cdma?

Ok I have a tmobile us g2 I'm lookin for the latest radio to flash with my supervillian Rom. But they say make sure its a gsm hero not a cdma..... how do I know witch I have?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You can rest assured knowing you have GSM..
Your looking in the wrong forum i guess... You say 'GSM or CDMA Hero' (Hero is also a G2 Touch... ) don't flash either of those radio's you'll brick your phone.... I think
this is the forum for the G2/Desire Z (HTC Vision), not the G2 Touch.
the G2/Desire Z comes only in GSM versions afaik...
and just for future reference as you go along. Typical CDMA devices do not have a sim card (unless they are global roaming on GSM). GSM phones have a SIM card.
Thanks guys!

WCMDA is one of the air interface standards for UMTS (so simplistically, it signifies the 3G radio while GSM represents the 2G radio).
WCDMA is a completely different standard than CDMA (and actually competes with CDMA's 3G successor, CDMA2000).

[Q] vodafone AU starting to use 850mHz

www.vodafone.com.au/personal/aboutvodafone/network/network-850/index.htm

do the telstra branded ones present any dramas?
I have a Telstra branded desire and the only issues I had were the Telstra bloatware and obviously the low internal storage.. Which were easily fixed by rooting and installing cyanogen rom.

+1 to that!
im staying with vf and just want to recieve the 850mhz/2100mhz hence swapping the 8181 to 8183. i just heard that some of the telstra stuff is hard to get off.
Its not hard, just root it.. Then flash a custom or stock rom which won't have the Telstra crap.

I want to have 3G can someone help?

Well, I don't have a rooted phone, and it didn't come with the option for 3G.. So I was wondering can my unrooted HTC wildfire get 3G?? ( If so can you help?)
My HTC wildfire s (MarvelC)
You'll need to describe your problem more clearly for some help. Maybe some screenshots or an accurate description on what isn't working.

Hello,
The Wildfire S has 3G capability, may you be rooted or not.
If when you're connecting to mobile internet, a little "H" appears on the left of your battery, it means you're using the 3G network.

I don't know whether or nor the OP is using a Wildfire S for the first time, therefore am just giving an easy method for him to check if he is using 3G or not.

How can I take a screenshot? Also, I tried looking in Mobile settings but no 3G option or any G is there. There's no 'H' just bars and something saying what looks to be 'Ev' above arrows.
My HTC wildfire s (MarvelC)
The 3G you are talking about is HSPA(H) which is a GSM technology............
Since your phone is a CDMA variant, the best it can use is EVDO......which is quite close to HSPA,call it CDMA 3G
Ohhh, x( okay then.. thanks anyways .. (clicked thanks )

[Q] The Internal ID of T-Mobile G2

What is the internal ID for the T-Mobile G2 ?
for example:
ro.product.model.internal = A955
Would be for the Droid2 , what would it be for the T-Mobile G2?
A7272 for the dz
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Looks like the Internal for G2 specifically is A8181 which is what I need.
*Sigh* though even an internal ID of A8181 nor the T-Mobile Branding and such manages to get Hulu+ working on my phone (which is an actual T-Mobile G2), though it could just be a problem with Hulu in general as even a stock TMo rom wasn't working with it.
Did u go to the Hulu+ website and add ur device to be activated? This app works on my G2.

Yea I did and it does show there "Android - HTC T-Mobile G2 (tmobile)", I ended up getting it to work by using a hacked version of the hulu+ app, otherwise it would only let me browse and not watch anything.
Its A8181

I did, and already seen that. I bought my phone in Thailand when it was completely new. I.e they imported it. So they could have gotten it from anywhere, including America.
And that leaves me back to still not know which model I have. Any other suggestions ?

try looking in settings/about phone. also turn off ur phone then hold volume down + power and that will bring up ur bootloader, more info there.

A8182 850/1900
