so hey guys, recently got a used nexus from a guy, and i'm running Jellybean on it and love it!
however, he changed his splashscreen using LogoMe when he was on ICS to the michigan state logo....i clearly have no desire to see that whenever i boot up the phone, so i want to just get the stock Google image back, or a Nexus image, or anything pertaining to the phone.
i bought LogoMe, but after purchasing, it said it didn't work with my version of hboot (i believe) so i assumed it won't work with JB, so i refunded it.
is there a guide out there as to how to do this manually? i wasn't keen on paying $2.50 just to change a splash image ONE time and never touch it again, so i'm glad i refunded the purchase...but i mean, there has to be a manual way to do this some how. every other phone i've owned (htc eris, inc, rezound, flyer) all have ways to do this, and i would think a phone as dev-friendly as the Nexus would as well!
thanks for any help!
Um hboot? Wtf is hboot?
LOL
Boot loader. What boot loader are you running. And it should support it. It just got an update to support the latest boot loader. And jelly bean. Should have taken a screen shot. The manual way of doing this is extremely tough. From what I've heard.

Good there are options for the stock logo. But I have a thread started for custom images in Themes and apps section. I even make custom ones.

I tried to ask in android-building about changing splash screen, wasn't even accepted nor was I told why it wasn't.
Saw a tut for it on kandroid, but idk if that works.

Nexus 7 splash image change
I am also interested in knowing how to change splash for JellyBean on Nexus 7. Any help is appreciated.
thanks.
EDIT: Never mind, major misunderstanding.

Well, this was bumped from a while ago and also, it's kinda in the wrong forum.
Any who, generally if you want to replace a splash screen, you place the new .zip of the boot animation into /system/media or /data/local (this is for the Galaxy Nexus, should be the same for the Nexus 7). It's up to you, which one you choose. Search around for boot animations as they should be in the forum somewhere.

That's not what this thread is about. It is NOT about changing the boot animation. It is about changing the splash screen, i.e., the screen with "Google" in white and the unlock icon at the bottom.

Yes, I think it does. But I'm pretty sure the OP wants to figure out how to do it without LogoMe.
Hm, I just realized something. If OP just wants the original Google boot logo back and not a custom one, isn't flashing the bootloader enough to get rid of it?

Although I haven't looked at the bootloader to see if the image is stored in there, you are probably right, it should revert to the original splash screen if you flash a stock bootloader. If not, what would work is to get a hold of someone's SBL partition and flash that using dd.

Hey everyone,
Im relatively confused about this phone since there are so many threads that are for the other versions(VZW/Sprint/Intnl).
What Im looking for is any help(direction?) as to what I should do first on my Nexus that I ordered from Google Play.
What is the first thing I should do(root or unlock bootloader?) and what should I download(Roms or kernals?). Any links to said advice would be much appreciated also.
Many thanks in advance.

Thank you for the obvious and the laugh. However, I really am looking to get past the two weeks of thread reading, and get guidance from those who have this Google Play version with working roms and stuff.
unlock the bootloader, you can decide to root or flash whatever later. unlocking the bootloader does a factory reset which is why you want to do it before you do any setup or add anything to the phone

Ok, now I saw this, and I might sound newbish here, but the title of that thread is for the VZA/Sprint/GSM versions of the phone. To my understanding, even the unlocked GSM version originally sold is not the same as the current one in the Google Play store.
If the link above will work for all the phones including mine then that is what I was looking for.

Lucky for you even if u unlock the boot loader after u sign in and sync all ur stuff your data won't be erased... something about the Takju version that allows users to unlock boot loader without wiping any data =P

It will work. Yours is still GSM, yakju, takju, yakjuux, whatever. Its still GSM.
first thing you should is jump up and down, and pat yourself on the back for being tied to your carrier for a phone upgrade
I would unlock the bootloader before anything else...
Then if you're feeling brave (and before you start configuring the device to your liking) flash a third-party ROM based on 4.0.3/4 (The most recent ICS versions):
l'd recommended Cyanogenmod 9 nightlies if you like to be on the bleeding edge (Although you might have to get used to flashing EVERY day, which isn't so bad once you get used to it)
Or, moving to something like LiquidSmooth (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555667)
or
EaglesBlood ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388728).
Each of which will bring different things to the table, you'll have to do your research as to which one you'd like if you go that way.
Alternatively, just stay on stock ROM and enjoy your phone the way they intended you to...
^ Thank you for that. I was actually confused as to what order Im supposed to do things(root, unlock bootloader...Rom...Kernal??)
Ive seen a lot of positive reviews for an AOKP rom and a Frances(?) Kernal. Anyone agree they make a good match?

You unlock the bootloader first because it wipes your phone, SD card as well.
Flash clockwork mod recovery.
Flash a custom rom and kernel.
Sorted.
The guide I wrote (previously linked) details how you can also back up your applications (not that you'll really have any to begin with...but if you decide to wait) without root.
Then unlock and restore...and backup again with titanium for all future restorations.

why are you suggesting using a toolkit to a user that doesn't know what's happening manually, let alone what a toolkit does.
It will be that much harder to track down any issues that may arise.

LOL, I think that's the whole point of the ToolKit.. So the user doesn't have to go through the manual stuff. Kind of hard to mess up on the V7 toolkit. The Dev made it pretty much dummy proof. As long as the drivers(Android 1.0) are installed on your computer you're pretty much good 2 go

Yeah I'm aware of that thread but 90% of that entire thread are just back and forth post of their experience with other toolkits with other phones and how people should learn how to do it manually and yada yada LOL.. I read that entire thread before I used V7 toolkit to root mines and have to say I don't see what the big fuss is about when someone wants to do it the easy way. It's very simple and very hard to mess up.. All you do is press 1,2,3 ect.

It's not about other toolkits, and it's certainly not about other phones -- it's a GNex thread...
It's fine to use a toolkit when you understand how it's doing things, but if you don't, AND something screws up, you'll be right back here with a new thread saying something like: "I used a toolkit to do abc and now it won't xyz", and asking for help. (Did you click on any of the example links in that thread?) Thing is, it is much more difficult to troubleshoot when a toolkit is used, compared to typing in the commands yourself.

At the end of last year, knowing that I will get a Nexus One and encourage by a relative, I decided to mod my G1.
It was a painful experience, for the XDA devs and Forum members, because I was totaly new and inexperienced.
I would like to pay tribute mostly to Frankdrey for his constant and kind help.
I was embarrassed and ashamed by my misunderstanding and mistakes. He never gave up on me.
I am for ever grateful to him. Should I say I hate him for giving me the virus of toying my phones.
He was not alone in his help. Demkator brought his much needed contribution too.
I am very thankful to him. And, of course, I took advantage of the outstanding job done by Ezterry.
Without them I would not have succeeded in rooting my G1.
Without them I would have not learn how to unlock, root, select the right radio, a Rom, a Kernel. Without the knowledge I acquired from them I would not have tried to mod my Nexus One after getting my GSM GalaxyNexus.
Maybe I would have had two bricks.
If at the time I had found a Toolkit chances are that, during my strugle to understand and implement the different steps to use Adb and Fastboot and to install a Rom, I would have embrace it.
That is why I fully agree with you, Efrant: we learn and the more we learn the more we increase our capabilities.
As far as my Galaxy Nexus is concerned I am waiting for the OTA to use and play with it.
Then I will unlock it (thanks, Efrant for the tutorial) and put a Rom and apps.
Needless to say I hope that we will be able to install a "unified search" as it is now with ICS 4.04.

Just make sure you rename the recovery file to PC36IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, boot into bootloader, them press volume up to accept the update.

It means English...no seriously it means English
You must mean unlocked. If you had rooted, you would already have a custom recovery because you flash from custom recovery to root

Well, your tiredness led to me being more informed and I appreciate it...(btw the last couple sentences in that guide---HI-LARIOUS!)
Now, go to bed:silly:
I left to computer to hit the head and my gf added those last 2, I went ahead and left then there. She's absolutely brilliant!
Edit: I've been out of the game for about a year and a half but most of the relevant knowledge is there in regards to HTC Unlock method. It was originally more of a universal guide. I started aiming it towards LTE users since thats what I have now. You guys are free to take my guide and tailor it to the Evo 4G. I would love to do it myself, but like I said I've been out for a year and a half and trying to play catch up with a device I no longer even own will be very frustrating lol
Edit: the fact that I can even write a guide that applies to such a broad range like htc is because understanding the theory helps. Half of that guide could easily apply to Motorola, Samsung, lg. But like I said I began to aim it towards the EVOLTE
I have an HTC EVO V and I have unlocked the bootloader, however, when I attempted to 'flash a new ROM' the file called for 'CWM-SuperSU-v0.87' -however- I saw the upgraded version 'CWM-SuperSU-v0.96' so, instead of using the prescribed file I saved the new one instead to my phone. I then 'deleted the cache' and if I remember correctly my phone screen went the white background with green lettering and was stuck on that screen for probably 10min? So, I took out the battery and I had my stock ROM but when I went to change clocks, my widget clocks were gone and also, I am trying to flash the stock ROM to get them back I guess? But, I am unable to flash a ROM now or even root my phone. I hope I have not soft bricked it! I know it's probably just a file that needs to be uploaded or something but I don't know what to do to fix this and if someone helps me here I promise I won't do it again! Please help me! I want to root my phone but I don't care about flashing a rom now I just want my phone to do whatever I want and when I am more comfortable with flashing ROM's then I will try that but for now Rooting is all I need with my original ROM.

Hey Everyone!
I've been trying to fix this problem for hours with no luck, and while I've found solutions that have worked for others I can't find one that is specific enough to my situation.
So I just got an HTC One X that is locked to Rogers today from Kijiji, and I love it - great phone. The thing I didn't like was the hoard of stock apps that took up about four pages on the app drawer, so I thought hey, I'll root it and delete them. I didn't have any intention of using any custom ROMs, just wanted superuser permission to delete stock apps. Unlocking went fine (finding the token and what not using the app I found on here), and the rooting seemed to go alright until it turned off and didn't start again. I pulled out the cable from the computer and now things are weird..
I can sometimes get into the hboot, but when I try to just start the phone normally it goes to the HTC splash screen and has red writing telling me "this build is for development purposes only", etc etc. I really wanted to get rid of those stock apps but at this point I just want my phone working again. Am I screwed?
Thanks in advance.

You haven't bricked your HOX yet. I would look into getting a recovery on to it, from there you'll be able to flash a RUU to get back to where you started. Make sure you get the right instructions for your phone though.
You might get some info here
