Only for Nexus devices to start with, I'm hesitant to add more devices because of the problems that may arise from porting the JB source to unofficial devices. In the future it may be possible but I wouldn't hold my breath, sorry. I hope you guys understand this decision is purely from a developmental stability standpoint.

Hello world.
Remember how those simple lines of code changed the world as we know it? Well I am proposing a new "hello world" to our lovely Galaxy Nexus community.
Introducing...
Fruits & Veggies (FNV)
A JellyBean Community ROM for the Galaxy Nexus
I came up with this idea a while back and JellyBean is a perfect platform to implement it on, with the drop of a whole new operating system and the lovely new features that come with it I figured it was time to give this a try. This will be a community based ROM, there will be no "team" and there is no official "leader", I will be the voice/face of the project but the ROM will belong to the community. I will be setting up a gerrit and picking a few choice admins to monitor what code gets merged but we will accept contributions from anyone, no matter how large or small, and every contributor will be credited for their work. If you are interested in this project please post here and let me know your thoughts/ideas on it.
Thanks,
remicks

Can you elaborate more? I mean, how does this differ from an already established community ROM like CM? Don't they take submissions from anyone? And you say no "team" or "leader" but isn't there? Your admins who can approve changes would be the team and since you pick who can approve things you'd be the leader.
Also, is this a vegetarian ROM? I'm all for fruits and veggies too but where's the meat? I can't flash a ROM without bacon.

Sorry, I elaborated a bit more on this topic at RootzWiki where I made the OP originally. This is just a chance for people who may feel intimidated by the large scale size of CM and/or AOKP etc. and would still like to contribute to a ROM.
The "team" is the community, there will be gerrit admins but we are just there to make sure the code doesn't break anything before it gets merged. Also, I don't like the term "leader", think of me as the "Project Coordinator".
There will be plenty of bacon in the rom, no worries there. The name itself is a play on the fact that Google gave us so many sweets that it's nice to have something healthy every once in a while
Hope that cleared up things a bit for ya

Food For thought! Rom's Rom's Rom's

Starting Off, I just wanted to thank everyone again for getting me the T989, I love this Phone & I love everyone at xda for it as well!!!
Now, I can't help but laugh because when I first got this device I seen a ton of posts *****ing about the Rom selection...
We now have:
ICS CM9 Alpha
ICS TW
GB TW
GB CM7
MIUI/CM7 GB ( Coming today )
The Dev, has really picked up as of lately on this device & I can't be more happier than I am now
This thread is mostly pointless, but still I wanted to say thanks to everyone again!
Thank you!!!
~Eugene
I must say, y'all need to thank your skyrocket brothers, for without them you would have nothing
Lock for being pointless.
JK! I must say development has picked up and I've seen much less flame fests and useless posts than I used to.
You have been a huge contributor and without your help we wouldn't have half those roms! Thank you!
I gotta say Eugene, I'm pregnant. Don't you dare deny our son his parent! I forgive you.

Though I thank them, it is a bit of a stretch to say we would have nothing. If anything, we just wouldn't have ICS yet.

Good stuff,
Eugene, you're welcome to hop on the wagon with the rest of the team for CM9. I know you have some stuff rattling around up in your head about some issues we have on our tracker
I'm gonna be mad at you if MIUI ruins my finals week.
But really, it's awesome we have so many great devs on this device
without eugene, we would only have touchwiz roms.
hats off to him

Yeah the development is coming along nicely now. All the people who jumped ship for the nexus will be regretting it, very soon. This phone is the best phone I've had hands down, even the stock rom was quite usable. (Which in my experience, is rare.) I also love the fact that everyone is working together now, it's great, everybody wins.
Its nice to see some all these great roms. The hard part is choosing one.

You realize this type of attitude is the reason CM team doesn't post builds until they are official because people start judging the final product on betas. The only difference between official and unofficial is that one of them allows more premature previews and the other doesn't.Aside from the other obvious facts mentioned

well, to be honest the cm devs said they hadnt put any work into the hercules or skyrocket for a very long time because of other projects, so all the guys who are working on the unofficial are the guys making this happen. soooooo...........
yes cm team members are helping us now, but they are not the ones focused on the project they have other work on their plates.
cyanogen is accepting changes we make so this means its getting into the official repo.
so to the people who say that the official will be better and more stream lined, yes it will, because it will be finished. but it will be entirely built by team chopsticks probably and submitted to cyanogenmod.

Yes thats the point. A dev cant win. If he releases stuff early because everyone wants things now then people will get the impression that one only makes buggy software and if you only do official releases than you end up with release schedules comparable to those of large companies like Samsung and people complain development is going along slowly.
In simplest terms if team A released
5 betas then a release candidate which was accepted as official CM then people
would still complain team A makes buggy software while CM team will always make it perfect even though in this example there is no difference in the source code.

Why when it is open source if you read the news article all that's needed is a git cherry pick and build. Then its done.

Things are rarely that simple, not because cherry picks don't work, but because some people are in different circumstances than your own. My current phone is a HTC One running a stock kernel, and without more sources custom kernels and ROMs are something of a tricky business right now. I prefer stock when possible, so an Xposed-style framework patch is a good way of "cherry picking" what I would like in a workable manner.
Great that you're sharing the news, but you posted in every thread already and now opened a thread in dev section =/
+1 for good intentions though

My two cents...I know goast from the forums, and he is an advanced user and a great resource to me. He's obviously pumped up about halo, and rightly so (it's a pretty amazing innovation by PA team). I'm not attacking anyone, but I like to stay informed about new things, so I appreciated his blast out. Many devs here work demanding jobs, and donate their personal time to development, so this info may help them in this fragmented crazy fast paced world. I just wanted to thank goast for the info, and impart some positive energy here. I'm not a dev, nor am I an expert, but I share goast's passion for android and desire to learn more about it. To me, that's why I love xda...I have a commercially dead device that is still extremely viable thanks to all of the great work here. Ok, I'm done...everybody enjoy halo!

Unofficial CM 10.2

A week or so ago a user named geekcentercreations posted a CM 10.2 build but uploaded the wrong one. Has anyone heard from him on whether or not it is actually legit? If he uploaded the wrong one the correct one should have been uploaded already.

If you look at his twitter and stuff he posts about how he was going to start building a CM Rom and all, so I don't think it was a hoax.
I think it was a hoax. If he was a serious Dev that could get aosp on our devices before other he would at least know to wait until he had a bootable build before he makes a thread.

To be fair, it is being worked on. The only problem is that it seems that three separate people from the CM are working on it separately. One person is working on 10.2 and another 11 and the third is 10.2 as well. I am not sure why they don't just figure it out together.

If the approach they are taking is to get it close to stable and then release it, I have absolutely no problem waiting. I think basically what I really want is a confirmation that says, "Hey were committed to getting the ROM out there, were not going to just scrap it because we can't get a few kinks to work".
That's my main issue, CM is supposed to be a community (at least, it was originally, before the main people sold out), open effort but many community and CM devs like to keep everything private and not share until they do all the work. Then they rant about people demanding source saying basically if you can't port everything from scratch like they have you have nothing to contribute. That selfish attitude sucks, it's anti-community and ultimately hurts progress. Plus they're all being vague about status and timeframes. I understand having a busy schedule and being uncertain, but that's all the more reason to share what you have, not to make asking for status and timeframes taboo and wait months being fed table scraps of updates. Releasing the source can only help the community, not hurt it. Meanwhile the CM/AOSP devs for the i717 Note were excellent, always providing status updates, links to source, frequent builds, and plenty of support.

If u want latest cm get any other device in the world. MOD EDITED profanity removed, I can flash 4.4 on my HTC sensation but not my note 3.. He released the hlte kernel after someone started trolling the cm community hard for a week a couple weeks ago. And he was upset. But so what... he's a maintainer then maintain bro or step aside. He has a kernel, no tree yet, and like 3 commits... I personally think he should step aside if he doesn't have time,,let someone else from cm develop for this device..

That's what I was referencing. How totally and completely unprofessional and against the spirit of a collaborative community. He comes off as a massive selfish douche rather than a trustworthy community developer in that rant. People want to help on the project and he just insults them.

Exactly what I thought when I read it.

I mean I agree with both parties. I understand why you would want to do it yourself and want to get most of the credit but I also see why the community is wanting to help.
Either way as long as I can get some CM before the end of the year I'll be happy.
The way this is going down, I'll just stick with Tweaked. My Jump upgrade will be available and the Note 4 will be out by the time they get it stable and then the waiting game starts all over. LOL

[Q] whats up with th CM team?

they haven't gotten any new nightlies out since feb 17. anyone know when they'll start releasing stuff for us again?
You do realize that the developers for these roms are making these out the kindness in their hearts right?
People like you drive me balistic... these guys/gals are all here doing this stuff in their free time... for free just so an idiot like you can come on and ask a question like this???
Really???
@mods kick this person off the site please...

That's because the jf devices have been merged to jflte, so that's the one to download from

As has been explained, there have been updates.
Many ROM teams are merging all the Galaxy S4 branches into single builds. So there is not T Mobile Galaxy S4 CM anymore. But the main Galaxy S4 CM works just fine and is updated nearly nightly.
This applies to a lot of AOSP ROM's now.
Here's the link. I've been enjoying the nightlies: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=jflte
