Why post this here? It belongs in the add on's thread, or, though a bit less, in Q&A.
Anyhow: if the add on's thread doesn't say you can use it, you most likely can't. And when you still try, at least make sure you have the knowledge to revert back to a working state.
Pro tip: Reflash the ROM. This won't wipe any data, as AOKP ROMs are no-wipe by default.

What ROM is able to be a daily driver with the defy for T-Mobile?
BUMP........
Can someone please just tell me what ROM is a stable driver for ICS on the regular TMO Defy?

I've read parts of each thread but there is no thread with a sum of all the roms and up to date info. It is impossible to read through 1000 pages to determine which rom is usable. Why can't someone just help someone out?

Why can't you just wait to let the devs finish their work? All ROMS are kind of pre-alpha status, so if you want to have a reliable phone, stick with your stock software. Elsewise try experimenting and find the ROM fulfilling your needs!
PRE-ALPHA? I didn't know they were all Pre-Alpha. Which one is the closest to daily driver but doesn't have every bell and whistle? I have a Defy as a secondary phone and want to give ICS a whirl.
Thanks

From my own experience I can recommend Epsylons' build from 19-March

Ok and then is anything else necessary to get it working, IE new kernel, etc.?
Epsylon3's build from 19.03 is for the Froyo Kernel. You can use this kernel only with the Defy (green and red lens), not with Defy+. For Defy+ you need a build for the GB kernel (the latest being the one from 18.03 by quarx).
So, if you have a Defy and you're on the Froyo kernel and CM7 you can simply flash the 19.03 ICS build after wiping data, cache and Dalvik cache (and after flashing ICS wipe cache and Dalvik cache again). You'll also need to flash the new ICS gapps.
I assume you are familiar with rooting, 2ndInint, CWM and so on?! If not follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
Otherwise you should start over with this:
Flash a fixed sbf with Froyo from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537.
Install CM7 (latest stable) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553782
And afterwards CM9 from here: http://defy-cm.net/defy-cm9-nightly/
And don't even think of porting all your apps with Titanium to CM9 - this can give you lots of trouble. Just make a clean install. If you have any trouble just use the forums' search function 99% of the questions you may want to ask, have been asked and answered already. Don't be lazy
Read the threads next time 90% of them tell you the state in the 1st post, if you would read them you would know, why ask the same question a hundred times, it clogs the forum

[Q] Bullet Kernel/ Other Kernels/ and general Rom questions

It has been a while since I have been on here.
First question, to whoever made bullet kernel, can we get a link in original android development as opposed to me pulling it out of the rom and making a cwm install for it as i did about 6 months ago.
second question, better kenals, mainly the one that is dual boot, how exaclty dose it work, sd partition or are both os, on the system memory somehow?
third question, im using jedi x, have been for a while, its solid, has all the sammy support, ect.
so if anyone wants to list their favoret roms and why, it will help me narrow the list of what i want to try.
fourth question. how is cm and aosp coming?
do you want us to tell you what to eat for dinner tonight as well?
i assume you are looking to upgrade from the old software you are on at the moment.
I'll make this easy for you.... tweaked 2.2 (not released yet, but there was another update, so wait until that ROM is updated and posted, then flash it.)
and use morfic's kernel. TNT-TW23-600 (that's version 23 he is on... not sure if he has it posted anywhere, but if you can't find it shoot me a pm and i'll drop it to you.)
All I know is Tweaked.
My Note 2 is Tweaked!
Cmenard made bullet but you do realize that it hasn't been updated since Christmas..... any way there s been a link for it since before than... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982322. [As for the dual boot read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=

I myself have been thoroughly enjoying INFAMOUS S4. It has the features I need, is faster than stock, and is very stable with great battery life. Just did a full backup of 3.3 and upgrading to 3.4 as I type this
~Eric
does INFAMOUS S4 rom get rid of the bloatware?

Sure does. They also have a zip with the bloat should you require it for some reason.

Instead of giving you a particular ROM suggestion, I'll give you the best way to find the one that best suits you. First, you have to decide what features you want. If you want all the smart stays, the air move, and the other Samsung stuff, you definitely want TouchWiz. If you want a (negligibly) more responsive feel that's more barebones and to the core of Android, go with one based on/around CyanogenMod (or even the Google Edition). Before flashing any new ROMs I'd spend at least an hour reading through both the Android Development and Original Android development sections. You don't have to read every page of every thread, but at the very least read the OP. You should know within the 1st page what features are included, whether it's TouchWiz or not, if it's themed, etc. Most of the TW ROMs are already debloated and will say so in the OP. The CM bases have no carrier bloat at all. If it interests you, take a look at the last few pages. The reason you want to read the last few pages is to get a feel of what bugs are present. As the ROMs get updated and the threads grow, chances are that problems reported on the 3rd page aren't going to be relevant on page 26. If you try one you like, make a nandroid backup of it and keep the backup updated: that way, if another one pops up that you want to try, or you just feel adventurous and want something new, you'll have your backup(s) and can much more easily surf between ROMs if you so desire.
I've gone through Wicked, Jedi, Infamous S4, Infamous Google Edition, and Alpha roms. Personally, I liked Jamison's Infamous roms the best. I'm currently on his Alpha rom, which is based on the international phone's firmware(or something like that?) and has no wifi calling. But it's pretty smooth. Currently Jamison seems to be the fastest on updating all three of his roms, so if you want continual added features/bug fixes go with any of his roms. Wicked was very nice and stable when I used it, but I got flash-happy and couldn't stick with it since he updates like once a month. In the end it's all up to you though.
P.S. The Infamous S4 and Alpha roms recently have had the Samsung apps added back in, not sure why cos I haven't really read all the posts in the thread. You can easily remove them yourself though.

Problem installing Roms

After trying my hand at installing a mod (cyanogenmod 10.2) I need to go a different direction and get a more stable rom. So I wanted to give cyanogenmod 10.1 a go. Unfortunately it fails on install. After reading through some forums I saw that I needed to install it after I load up stock fl26. But fl26 also failed on install. I'm going to prep for install with another rom but is there something basic I'm missing here?

Hey bud, Your thread the other day got closed (for asking what the best ROMs are), but let me give you some more pressing advice:
Do a lot of reading before doing anything else. It sounds like you might have jumped into this a bit too quick if you're having this many problems. I don't mean that in a bad way, not at all. None of us knew anything when we started... There is a lot to learn in terms of messing with what's inside our devices. If you can't get a ROM to flash right, I strongly suggest you stop - just set the thing down and read, before you brick it and have no more phone.
Every ROM has a Post #1 (the "OP") that has exact flashing instructions, and links to applicable downloads. Make time for that reading - the FAQ threads, the General threads, and the thread for the ROM you want to flash. Because you're on an older device, I promise you that all of the kinks have been ironed out or bugs are well-known (and not going to be fixed) and this is all available from reading. Okay? Good luck.

Install a stock GB27 one click rom. That should reset your phone, and let you install whatever custom rom you want.
I know right... reading....... like when you read a thread about "Best" Roms and it doesn't say best anywhere in the post.
Thanks for the help Bud! :good:

FYI... I sense that you might be a little upset with some of the posts...Rest assured... nobody is flaming you in this forum... These guys have tons of experience and just don't want you to brick you're device...
Also... this should have been asked in the noob friendly Q & A thread ( it's stickied at the top of the page )...no biggy, We are just trying to keep the Q & A section clean... for all of us to use...
Let me know if you want the link... and Welcome to XDA.. Epic 4g Touch forum...

Need stable fast clean ROM/Kernel

Hi xda,
I'm the kind of guy that just wants something tried, tested and true. I rooted and flashed my phone when I first got it to Jedi Mind Trick v6 which was new back then. My Kernel is 3.0.41-T989-ICS-faux123-008
But as of recently I've been experiencing lots of freezing and random reboots. It's about time I get a new Rom and maybe Kernel if necessary.
I know there are a bunch out there and I simply want a stable version of a ROM that's clean, simple and fast, and a Kernel that optimizes battery life I guess. No experimental nightly test builds and what not cause very likely this may be my last upgrade before I decide I'm scrapping this phone. This is basically a last chance upgrade to see if I can still push out another year on this phone.
What are the top few choices/combinations of rom/kernel you guys would recommend?
If I remember the process correctly, I need to backup everything on titanium backup, use some darkwipe thing to clear everything, then flash the new rom, then google now in that development mode right? It's been so long, let me know if the process is made easier or something now lol
Thanks!
My wife uses cm 10.1.2 it's stable, fast, everything works. Wipe from custom recovery, flash cm, flash gapps, then factory reset.
The most stable ROM for the t989 is stock 4.1.2 or a stock touchwiz based ROM. No doubt.
Otherwise, backup first, and flash a few and see.
Everyone's opinions will vary. So find out what's best for you!!
---------- Post added at 10:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 PM ----------
And please....read the rom flashing instructions and entire opening posts carefully and follow them exactly.
No, don't use Darkside wipes....they are outdated.
^ This. Plus, I tend to avoid any where the first few pages, or the last few pages are all "IT DOESN'T WORK!" kinds of posts. Keep in mind, how you use your phone will change your experience vs another members. Happy Flashing!
