I was just out camping where I had very faint cell phone reception (ie: I would get 1 bar and then it would go out). I was looking at getting a cell phone signal booster for my Samsung Galaxy S2 X but I am confused on which one to get. I was looking at the Wilson cell phone booster but most of them say "Except Nextel/iDEN and 4G", so does that mean it won't work with my Samsung Galaxy S2 X? Thanks

No it will work but it only boosts 3g/EDGE and voice connections so you will be able to make a call and send txt messages but not alot of data usage.

It's because it's SAMSUNG PEOPLE.
No one will admit if anyone has any experience with any Samsung device they should know compare an HTC or iphone or moto photon signal to any SPRINT SAMSUNG PHONE ITS NOT SPRINT.
It's the Samsung software or hardware that's been glitched since day one since the first epic
They all have weak signal u can compare a photon which is Motorola to this galaxy nexus
Galaxy s2, galaxy s3 any Samsung, WEAK SIGNAL PHONES, and not one person realizes this with comparing the experience of device to Device on the same network
. How can u get 5 constant bars on a photon or 2 or 3 on HTC evo or sprint I phone in the same area, but always 1 bar on Samsung phones All on the same network. ITS SAMSUNG SKIMPIN OUT ON THERE BUILD QUALITY whether hardware or software related, it pisses me off they persistently ROLL OUT brand new Devices all year and waist good phones cause they can't build a stronger signal phone.
So forget about complaining about signal issues it won't change until they figure the real reason out

Same here, I have good signal all the time (even when my country have ****ty networks, I'm always on full signal).
My signal has been rock solid everywhere I have been for the last 7 months. :good:
Samsung can't do anything right.

The writing in the OP is an absolute trainwreck.
It's Sprint. Sprint sucks. No problems here on VZW CDMA, even w/o having the JB radios.
My friend has the Sprint iPhone (the forbidden device) and it's super slow even when maxed.

I also have to disagree with this. My GSM Nexus on T-Mobile has been rock solid. GPS lock in about 3 to 5 seconds and never a drop call and data speed has been great. We all know the first T-959 Vibrants had GPS issues but I sent mine in and Samsung fixed it. I wonder if it has to do with location? Here in Chicago my friends who are still on Sprint always complain about dropped calls and loss of network. And they are all using a mix of phones from different mafs.
A lot of it also is how the phone handles the signal display. Some phones display a higher signal then others as like a placebo. 5 bars on a moto RAZR and 3 on my gnex and mine still wins in speed tests.

Yea, do the bars really mean anything? I have had 8 Mbps download speed on full bars and 9 Mbps on 0 or 1 bar of signal and still no issues with calls.

They don't. You could have 5 bars and 500k people on the same tower as you and you'll get better service with 1 bar and 50k people on the tower.

i have a huge issue. the nex wont hold 4g in my house. period. drops to 3g all the time. i have a thunderbolt that got constant 4g (strong enough to tether with) in a known verizon dead zone. you explain that
I figured by now that people, especially those who start threads complaining about signal would know better then to base it off of bars!!!!!!!
Thanks for your informative well constructed break down of why Samsung sucks because another phone showed more bars.
Thanks to you research I will never buy another Samsung device again. You are my hero :silly:

English, son! learn it!
Well, we needed a good troll thread this week.
2/10 would read again.
we bought two galaxy S3 and a galaxy note 2 on black Friday and we are very impressed by the quality of the Samsung phones. However, galaxy s3 phones are having 3G network issues. Our apartment is not getting very good reception with sprint but 3G speed tests are consistent with less than 100ms ping and 0.4-1mbps download speeds and 4g wimax speeds are decent. We have an airave device since we had issues with voice reception and we are very impressed by the device. However, galaxy s3 phones are having issues with 3G reception regardless if it is under airave reception or just outside tower reception. It was getting good speed and all of sudden 3G network turns itself off and it comes back on. I thought it was due to weak 3G signal into our apartment but it is doing the same with airave 3G and I thought it was mainly due to the programming of the phone since galaxy s3 has better reception quality than my galaxy s epic 4g. so I went to setting > network > more options > mobile network > and turned on CDMA only and those issues are gone with galaxy s3s. I think the phones are trying to connect to LTE and if the area does not have the coverage yet, it resets the 3G radio. During the resetting, the 3G coverage disappears and disrupts the data. has this been ongoing problem for the galaxy s3 on sprint? my galaxy s1 epic 4G never has this issue and we are wondering CDMA only option is temporary fix for the issue. if anyone had similar problem and was able to fix it, let me know. thank you.

You're probably right.
The only real way to avoid it is to disable LTE during the time when you're at home.
Alternatively, see if it will simply hold an LTE signal instead of using the airave, though I doubt it will.
The reason for the difference is that the Epic 4G is using Wimax, while the Galaxy S3 and Note II are using LTE.

TO ALL!!!! this is a call to action. I too, like many others are experiencing unacceptable data speeds while on 3G and in great reception while uing the Galaxy S III. the speeds I should be recieving are 1.5-3 MB/s but instead I am recieving around 128Kb/s in the city and within excellent service. We all have to pay a 'Premium Data Add-On' charges just to own these phones and this is unacceptable. Please write an Email to [email protected], vice president of customer experience at sprint and let him know what you are experiencing. Maybe if enough pissed off customers write, they will finally listen!

Had problem to for the first couple days after getting my s3 but all the bugs worked out. As far as cdma/lte and cdma option. I switched to just cdma being lte not up and running. This will save battery being phone wont be looking for lte network

You can also contact sprint. They have updates for the airave and if that dont work they will send the new design one. Reason is s3 is new surf and talk and airave is standard cdma. Call takes about an hour for them to go through all thier steps. Before you call try *99 it will force connection to airave first and see if you still lose it.

I think I've already know the answer to this question, after extensive searching and reading around, but here goes anyway.
Is there any sign of the Galaxy Note 2 getting Orange Signal Boost (UMA), or it being able to be ported to it?
I guess not, as the Signal Boost app seems only to work up to ICS not JB and the Note 2 is shipped with JB. I guess if Signal Boost is ever put on the S3 there might be a chance for it to be extracted from that rom for the Note 2. But Orange don't say what will be done, so we really have no idea.
Am I correct?
Thanks
Orange.... Well EE now have a femtocell that they are selling. From what I gather if you have registered an issue with signal in your home or office you may be able to get one free, especially if your signal has degraded due to them decommissioning a cell (as part of their network optimisation). If not, they sell them for £100. There is a thread about them on the digital spy forum.
Sent from my Samsung Note II.
P's, the reason I mention the femtocell is that most people who use uma would get a similar benefit from a femtocell and have the same reasons for using either... To get a signal.
Thanks, I didn't know that.
It's definitely Signal Boost / UMA I'm interested in though. It's for when I go away (within UK) and then I don't have physical access to the router, just to the wifi.
I'm on CyanogenMod 10.1 nighlies on my nexus and the signal I get is terrible and my city has good lte coverage. Like I turn data off usually except when I need it so it doesn't drain my battery but sometimes when I push the data toggle to on it doesn't even turn on data. It shows the bars but i can't use 3g/4g. Anybody else have this problem and does anyone know how to fix it? I came to the nexus from an s3 cause it stopped working so I had to find a cheap phone off eBay to use until I get the galaxy s4 in august and I have to say the signal on the s3 was soooo much better than the nexus.
The signal bars on the gnex are calculated currently from other phones, so it will often appear that you have a worse signal than other devices. That's not to day that the gnex's radios are on par with the s3 - they're not quite as good, but they're not horrible.
First of all, I hope I am posting in the right place this time. I couldn't find anything for Note II Canada.
So I just bought a BNIB Note II a few days ago. It's the i317m (from Rogers/Canada) but had it unlocked and modified (or whatever that is called) to get it to work with AWS network (Wind mobile). It worked but the reception on the phone where I live is horrible. Basically the phone will only work if it's stuck next to one wall in my place (where the signal is 1-2 bars). Once I move the phone to any other place I lose all connection, and the phone is rendered useless, which really sucks. I have an older Blackberry that I'm borrowing and it constantly shows 2 bars anywhere in my place. I also had an LG Optimus and as much as it sucked at reception it was still better than the Note. Wind signal is generally good in my area except for a couple of blocks but still, I was expecting the Note II to have better reception than other phones.
So, I'm wondering if this has something to do with this particular phone or is this a known issue with all Notes? Anything I can do? The phone will show full bars once I'm out of those couple of blocks where I live but is it possible that the Note II has worse reception than cheaper and older phones?
Thanks.
I think Samsung are known for weak radios

I'm having the same issue with my Note II on Mobilicity. After researching I've concluded that Samsung devices have weaker radio's that most other devices. I can wander around my home with my Note II in one hand and my wifes HTC Panache in the other and the Note II's signal is always 7-10 dBM lower than the Panache. The Panache never loses connection in my house and always has at least 1 bar while the Note II will drop in many places. Every time I call Mobi they say they'll make changes redirect an antenna by a few degrees or boost the signal but nothing ever changes.
I wish the phone would auto connect to the CDN Roaming network whenever I drop. I think it sort of does but just doesn't Register on the network because I do have a indication I can make Emergency Calls Only and shows I have 2-3 bars.

I've noticed that my Note2 has poor LTE reception, 1 bar and 1Mbps down. If I switch to WCDMA only I get 4 bars and 7MBps and 1up. I just thought that it was my area. 2 weeks ago I got an S4 and the signal difference is a amazing. The S4 has 4 bars of LTE and I get 20Mbps down and 10up, the Note 2 on the same sim still gets 1 to 2 bars and very slow data.
