You heard it first here at XDA, New SWYPE BETA update brings awesome gesture feature and different theme options.

I'm loving the new version. Many themes, looks sleeker, and they moved the hyphen to the first symbols page which was always a huge pain for me.

Swype did it again.
Built-in theming AND soft vibrate on keypress.
Brilliant!
Could someone mirror the beta installer? I've tried to download the installer a few times and am not getting the email....

Can anyone confirm if this version uses more RAM? On my SGS III it is using 44MB, phone has been on for 25 hours.
But on my LG Thrill 4G, it is still on the older version (1.1.1.7628) and using 18MB for the past 16 hours.
I'm at 35mb after 12 hours but I noticed they put a lot more work into Swype connect so the app is only using about 20mb & the Swypeconnect part is at about 15mb. I also noticed after signing in to it to back up my dictionary that somehow all my words are gone.. go figure. Hopefully I can get it back through titanium or something.

Thanks. I use cm10 and add your know doesn't come with Swype so just that alone keeps me from having to flash back and forth from tw two cm and back and forth. Little details but like some of you know its the little things can make it or break it.

You're comparing peanuts to peanuts in a sea of 2GB. I'd still be using Swype even if it was hogging... 25% of my ram, but, atm, it's only eating 39MB.
just a quick question I installed it on my phone running frosty JB v2 and the keyboard works great but I don't have theme options anyone else have this?
BTW tried it on an aokp rom and themes were there, any ideas how to get it working with both roms?
Just updated. Thank God for a nice black theme like I had on my RAZR, and now "i" is auto-capitalizing to "I"properly again. Second one was REALLY bugging me.
Will be interesting to see the new Swiftkey swype offering tough.

They should be there, clear data and force close. but be sure to back up your dictionary library first.

The gestures are pretty handy when i remember to use them.
Themes look nice. The voice to text is very good (unless this uses the native Google engine? )
How long has this beta been around? Are they eventually going to put a release on the android market?

It uses the Dragon Go voice engine. Dragon Go is an app in the market as well, pretty handy.
That's a good question, It's been beta since the original galaxy s. I don't know when they are going to make it official.

I think the beta is used to test out new features which they include to OEMs. Not sure they are going to put out an actual app in the Marketplace.
I didn't see the soft vibrate on keypress.

Android 4.2 keyboard - Youtube link
Download ZIP file, and flash it in recovery. That also means you're going to need root. as you'll be writing to /system/apps. Before you do, though, either back up the stock keyboard (if you don't know how, you probably shouldn't be doing this) or create a full image backup, just in case.
Here's that ZIP file:
Download
Enjoy
P.S.
Set a new keyboard as default.
On Android keyboard settings you have a text correction.... you must to download dictionary.
Without this swype function doesn't work.
Cool!

nicely done. would be better if there is arrows when you swipe the spacebar upwards like in gingerbread keyboard
This probably not working with Sense ROMs, anyone tried it?

There was an original? I thought I looked everywhere when I first got the phone, but was disappointed when I didnt find it in any settings. I was more surprised than anything because my Galaxy Player 5 had a swiping keyboard and that was running Gingerbread...I wouldnt mind trying out this keyboard.
jwitt, do you know if it's as easy as pulling out the APK? Does it have any dependencies on TouchWiz or any other libs?
If you are talking about Swype you can get it from their website. There is always a beta because it is always being developed.

I'm gettting an error with your link. I just came back from tmobile and there was an awesome keyboard on the bulletproof rom for s2. It was multi-swipe and captioned what you were spelling as you went. Was in settings as android keyboard, I ripped it with titanium then installed on my s3 and killed my phone, had to install a rom to bring it back. Dont know if its the one you were talking about, was a jellybean rom though, would love to have it back.

Dropbox is down right now. This is the one that came with the phone. Here it is. Try this. Just paste in System/app and change permissions to rw-r-r and reboot.

You don't click install. After you paste, change permissions, reboot it should be there when you select your keyboard. If you hit install in system apps, it will always come back as "application not installed"

You can actually pull it and have it on whatever rom you're using
Download MOAR, ask what the font is called, then pull font "xxx" from /system/fonts in the MOAR.zip and dump it into the /system/fonts folder of whatever rom you're running
If you like a certain font, you can actually do this across phones, roms, whatever!

There are also apps like "rom manager" (the free version has it too) that present you with a whole catalogue of fonts [and also boot animations from rom manager] that you can install, and they stick even after you uninstall the app because it sticks them in your /system/fonts folder

I personally prefer Kii Keyboard. It's fully customizable and themable, you can change the size of the keys, the whole keyboard, how the keyboard works, etc. It's got all the functionality of the Google Keyboard and more too. Totally worth the cash, and it works with every keyboard theme out there that I've tried.

Im using Swiftkey Tablet edition and I like how it splits the keyboard when I rotate my phone. Also think it has one of the best predictive text options out. :good:
My favorite keyboard has been Hacker's Keyboard for a while now. It is great for terminal/remote desktop as it has all the control and modifier keys. Also has a real PC-like layout with number row, arrows, punctuation, and tab with a numpad, home/ins/del block, F keys, and more on the second page. Also very customizable. I don't like autocorrect or suggestions so a good basic keyboard is perfect for me. It's open source as well.
