Ok guys, here's the thing. First My Phone Specs:
Android 2.2 Baseband 2.15.00.05.02 Kernel 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e
Fresh Evo 3.3.0.1 Software 3.29.651.5 PRI 2.15_003 PRL 01115
Previous PRI was 1.70 don't remember the rest Sorry
I updated last night to the Radio that comes out on the NEW 2.3 update. The only reason I updated it, was because both my siblings Evos (stock unrooted 2.3 update) have better reception than mine, and I actually have NO signal at my sisters house, yet hers is Perfect. I updated the radio off of ROM manager (a first) only because other evo owners said it was a good update.
Since then, I unplugged the phone at 7am, went to school, played music for like 13 mins, sat in class (low/bad signal - Nothing New always like that), and by 9:40am I had 50% battery. NO USAGE AT ALL. Main consumption was Android OS which didn't even exist in the battery info page prior to the update (I had and still have Android system, and both appear there) at 40% of the battery usage, then the normal ones.
Phone was dead by 11:50am
Although the signal is poor, Mon-Wed same schedule, class, and usage (NONE), I had 89-85% at 9:40am.
I click on Android OS, and I get NO information at all. It was never there before, and now I have Android OS consuming all the battery, and the Normal Android System at about 10-13% normal.
The weird thing is, it's 2h33m17s since unplugged, and Android OS is at 2h11m12s 31% Data sent 11.43 KB Data Received 903.75 KB and my battery is already at 53%. At this rate I'll have to charge it 3 times today, with NO USAGE. Android System is only at 13m.
I have restarted it several times, didn't work.
What do you guys suggest?
If I were to do the OTA Update would that fix it, if it has something to do with the radio update I did?
I know there isn't a root for 2.3 yet, but I'd rather wait with a phone that's actually usable.
I know the update removes Root access and Roms and all, BUT doesn't it also overwrite any Flashed Radios?
Sorry for the Long Post, but I just wanted to explain as much as I could to help you guys Help Me.
Thanks in advance for the Help Guys
Have you checked running services/apps that may be hogging alot of resources such as CPU and/or data? I am rooted so i dont have all those damn services running on CM7 but when i wasnt rooted, I would always end the BS that didnt need to run. Always left background data off unless i went to the market and auto sync always off too. If you dont have anything that appears to be hogging resources, just backup your apps with titanium backup and factory restore. I've have had a few problems that the factory restore just took care of. And doesnt take that long really. 15 mins tops and everything was back to normal. Just make sure you know your gmail account. Almost forgot mine the first time. lol Let us know

I did check it, but it was all the normal things like Tasker, Lookout, and some normal one.
The weird thing is, why did it all of a sudden happen after the flashed radios, and why did the Android OS all of a sudden appear out of nowhere?
I really thinking of just doing OTA update if I have to go the Factory reset way. I know it will kill my root, but Unrevoked should almost be out with a solution.
Just thought it was really weird how it happened after the radio combo flash. I would also just like to solve it and stay on my current ROM for now. Whatever solves it you know.
Why not just downgrade your radios?
Also I would flash the radios from recovery or get the PC36IMG.zip you can flash from your bootloader I don't trust ROM manager I use to use it but had nothing but problems also you should change recoverys to ra Amon 2.3 some PPL have problems with cwm I did and never looked back .

Oh also if your on the gb radios you should probably be on a gb ROM.

I had thought about that, but usually stay away from radios, since most problems arise from this. Hence THIS Post
I always used cwm, but have heard about certain problems which I haven't had luckily. I am on the older version though, which is recommended for radio flashes.

That was what I was really wondering. I thought it something to do with me being on Froyo instead of GB. Although the radio combos are out there, non of them said this, but it makes sense though.
My phone's almost dead again, and getting frustrated.
I'm really thinking about doing OTA, or maybe just trying Fresh's Beta ROM (GB) from the leak, then upgrading to the updated OTA one, once it is out.
What do you think about that?
Of course I would wipe everything before the ROM flash to avoid complications.
Thanks for your help
Go on xda or get the app there is already a rooted version of the ota if thats what your looking for there are way more ROMs on that site then on ROM manager .

I'm currently dl Ginger-AleV4 to try it out, I prefer Fresh because that's all I've had, and many ppl swear by it. If anything a temporary fix would be good until Fresh comes out with it.
Yeah, I'm on XDA looking around since like 4 hours ago, and studying for an exam I have tomorrow
Thanks for your help
Funny, I have the same issue. I'm rooted and was running Warm 2.2, upgraded to Synergy and was running great for 4-5 days on the nightly roms. 4G would connect then disconnect right away so I ran Calkulin's radio zip and upgraded all of them, 4G works!!! This was on Monday. Wednesday night phone was on my lap watching TV and it got real warm, I looked at it and I was at 15%, started at 63% when I sat down 25 minutes ago. I run Battery monitor pro and before I had this problem the mHa would sit around 100-200 depending on what was being done, not I can't get it below 400mHa. Even after I flashed the radios it was working fine for 2 days, then all of a sudden it's warm and my batter won't last, no other programs were installed.
I'm on mikg v1.03 and everything is working awesome for me.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I noticed the same battery draining issues. I think it was after the GB radio flash and not before.
I then checked some stuff and saw data in background running as well as Sync.
These were disabled before the flash but seemed to get enabled again.
Draining issue seems to have resolved itself. But I will keep an eye on it to make sure.

I notice the extreme heat on it too. It really sux. I went from having awesome battery life since Sept '10 on Fresh, and went to losing full charge in 4 hrs using my phone as a paper weight after the radio flash.

I actually just finished downloading it, and just waiting for my phone to get a charge so I can start wiping, and flashing.
How is it in battery life, smoothness, wifi, and all other things?
Also, I don't need to flash a separate kernel right?
I'd rather not, and usually ONLY flash ROMs.
Thanks Guys

The battery is pretty good for a stock kernel I get about 9 hours of heavy use and everything is running smooth for me make sure you wipe everything and you should be good.
And no you don't need to flash a kernel it come with the right one its stock till they release the source code for it then the dev can give us some sbc, havs etc...

Just installed mikg v1.03 after a good wipe and it's still getting warm and draining fast. Only have Batter monitor pro installed and 2 hours after install it's using ~600ma. I'll let it sit over night and see how it does. If that doesn't work I'm gonna download the other radios and see what works best.
Any last recommendations before I unroot and flash back to stock? I tried all different radios last night with no success, I have never seen this before in on this phone and I have been flashing for over 8 months with it, I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue as it happend all of a sudden.

I'll stick with this kernel, and No themes for now, the Sense is enough for my taste at the moment. Including the on off tv animation
Question though, I've been getting FCs on my Voicemail and some Google process (forgot to wirte it down). Do you know anything about that by any chance?
Thanks

Can I get the Alternate Recover Amon RA that is on ROM Manager?
I've never wiped Davlik or cache when Im not doing a wipe, does it have any
negatives to doing that since Im not doing anything else? (very noobish Q, I know)
Thanks

Yes you can flash ra from ROM manager thats what I did I was just like you at one point dependent on rm but get the xda app and learn how to use it you will love this site.
And no wiping cache and dalvik cache won't hurt anything you can do this over and over with no problems and you would be surprised what that can fix also fixing permissions .
You will learn downloading ROMs from this site and flashing from ra recovery will give you better results just read the ROM install instruction and you will good to go.
I also have VR supper wipe zip. Thats what I flash before I install a new ROM and I never have any problems I'll try to find you a link if you want it .
If you ever need help PM me I'm not a dev but I'm on here allot and have flashed allot of ROMs and mods I try to give back to xda by helping PPL out .
I hope I helped you in some way.

I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else..
However, this seems to be an ongoing issue with me and Android.
I've had the X10a and Nexus One .. both after only rooting it and using a different rom. While making phone calls and charging.. my phone would reboot..
Or playing a game on the phone.. it would reboot. I basically couldn't do anything without the phone rebooting. Which was sad.
Now with the Galaxy S2X.. This very same issue just happened to me moments ago.
Should I have never rooted it or changed the rom in the first place?
It was running very well before I decided to do so.. even while charging and talking on the phone.
Its funny because it just happened while charging.... I'm not even on the phone myself.
Does anyone seem to have any problem with this when using custom ROMs?
Because if this is true.. then I guess I'll flash the stock kernel and stuff back on the phone just to HOPE it doesn't occur then. :/
I've only experienced this after trying different roms and kernels. I flashed the stock kernel and the deodex rooted stock rom back at the same time and have had no such things happen again.
Imo, stock always runs better than any other rom. I always get better battery too.
My sensation was/is the same way, reboots, dropped signals and all until I put it back to stock rooted. Now it's fine.
——————————
Deebo took your bike too?
Yes I have had it more often on this phone though but it has been fixed by wiping the proper things first then flashing. If not then you might need to redownload the file.
If that doesnt work then you need to make sure that the kernel you are using is compatible with the rom
Also make sure that you are using the proper cpu software for the kernel.. Setcpu seems to work good for most but on Juggernauts new kernel they highly recommend Fauxclock .
I've run roms and kernels since we got root. Never had a random reboot or any other problem for that matter.

The only thing I'm worried about is if I continue to wipe and reinstall these customs ROM's that this issue could worsen, but you said that Fauxclock was highly recommended for Jug's Rom? I should try that out myself.
I've always done exactly what was written on the Instructions themselves.
But as for now. . I did a full wipe.. including my SD and the USB data and did a practice call for roughly an hour with me playing games and surfing. So far, there has been any problems. I hope this is perm!
I'd hate to waste another $500 phone D:
As far as the problem kernel with rom etc..
I am running Jug's rom straight. No different kernel's nothing.
I just had it happen to me last night. First time on this phone it has happened. It its stock, rooted. Happened while I was paying music in the car. My other phones with custom roms used to do it all the time.
I wonder if this has happened to anyone without ANY mods on their phone? =X

Reviving old thread... I have a completely stock S2X running 4.0.3 and it randomly reboots or shuts itself off.
I'm trying to figure out if it's a wayward app or a hardware problem. Thinking of rooting and removing the bloatware.
I also saw that it could be a faulty power button, but it also happens by itself, sitting on a desk.

After the ICS update on my non-rooted phone, the phone seems to be freezing
up and becoming unresponsive. After a while it looks like the radio "resets", all
the icons disappear in the top bar (signal, wifi, data) and it shows no service.
Then slowly one by one they all come back and I can use the phone again.
Sometimes I receive the "System is not responding" dialog box, but not always.
There is not one particular program it is doing this in, it can be something as
simple as pulling down the notification bar that will cause the freeze.
Any suggestions are appreciated, I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue.
Thanks.
Try:
Turn off phone
Take out SIM
Put SIM back
Turn on
I've had my phone act weird with respect to signal, wifi and data when this was the issue. Worth a shot, at the very least.

Thank you for the response.
Tried this and had the system is unresponsive issue right on reboot. If I do a
factory reset, does it reset to the current firmware or what was originally on the
phone (probably a really stupid question). I wonder if some other program isn't
ICS compatible and is doing something in the background. Doesn't look like
anyone else is having this same issue.

If you do a factory reset and it was the standard Kies legit update from Tmo, it won't downgrade your phone - will just re-install a fresh copy of your ICS. Did you do a restore of apps from your last version (gb?) with data? That could cause problems I would think..

Are you letting it sit for like 10 minutes during first boot after factory reset then reboot again before setting up. Its likely that some scripts are running from the initial installation and you need to let it rot until its done..
I did exactly that, thanks for the advice. Hoping that may fix the problem. I wiped the cache and factory reset, then let the phone sit for a good while before going through the play store and re-installing everything.
This issue just resurfaced again. The last 2 days I am getting the freezing, radio reboot and android process not responding.
No one else having this issue?
I think I'm in the same boat. I was stock GB, and just did the mini OTA update (which was great). A few days later ICS became available via Kies from T-Mobile, and I "upgraded".
Since the upgrade my phone is laggy, screen is significantly less responsive and also my battery life is less than before.
I have NOT done a factory reset of my phone yes (plan on doing that today), but even with that I have read that performance does not improve.
Ideally, I would love to return back to the stock tmobile gb firmware. However, even after literally 2 hours of reading I can't find the "how-to" and files I need.
I would appreciate any assistance.
t989 chip lags
ive notice this happen on my tmobile galaxy s2. i think it has to do with the Qualcomm chip on tmobiles stock roms.
When i had sprint i bought my girlfriend a galaxy s2 on the sprint network which runs the samsung exynos chip. She never complained about any lag or freezing whatsoever. I then left sprint because of their garbage network and joined tmobile.
bought 2 galaxy s2s and i noticed the lag almost immediately. The phone has random lag spikes as well as freezing and force closes. It had it on stock gingerbread and it has it on stock ICS too.
My girlfriend complains about freezing all the time so i decided to root her phone too. Right now im testing DarkSides v7 rom and if its pretty good in performance i will flash her phone with it too. So far it has been pretty snappy and everything works.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. But it really shouldn't be necessary on a phone that's got more going for it than the stock nexus that 1st came out with ics.

Hey all good morning, what a messed up way to start the morning. So I was on my phone paying some bills, reading some manga when it powered off on me, I thought this was the known random reboot you get when flashing CM10 sometimes so I paid it no mind, however the phone has still not turned back on. I've done battery pulls, tried to boot into recovery or download and nothing is working it's just dead. I definitely didn't do anything this morning, flashed no roms nada and it had full charge shoot it was plugged in to my work computer when it happened. Someone, anyone please help me, I have the toolkit on this computer and can download anything all I need is instruction. Please help and also I've wanted the CM10 rom because I like it but it doesn't seem ready to be my daily driver as I'm having issues and have flashed different versions with it seeming to get worst while getting better. What does anyone recommend for a safe daily driver, stable, no reboots, crashes and still can be played with like CM10 for features somewhat?

I've been using ths 08/14 CM10 rom on a full wipe without much issues, but have come accross your issue on an old CM9 build last month.
For me to get the phone to boot, I removed the battery and powered it on by AC only, and then poped in the battery, and haven't had issues since.
Do you do any overclocking or undervolting? You say CM10, what release? What kernel?
Hopefully we can get your phone working once more

Thanks for the support, I'm not sure what happened but I just saw the samsung logo and it's booted up, so now it's up and running but that kinda scared me lol. I know what you mean jellybro hasn't given me much problem before which is why I've picked it over others but this now scares me lol especially since I actually formatted my phone last friday and had to start from scratch, so was worried it was a repeat without me doing anything lol. I'm using the 20120813 release and the kernel that comes with it, I haven't played with kernels at all, is there a kernel I should look at? And I don't overclock per say I may switch the cpu performance to "performance" from time to time but that's it and no undervolting I try not to play with things I don't understand too much lol
I'd recommend you to hop on the new 08-14 official CM10, now that cm9 is released, i would imagine seeing many more frequent updates from Cyanogen himself.
I was using Jellybro and got random crashes, but so far no issues with 0814 cm10. Just do a full wipe, dalvik wipes and dirty flash cause more issues than its worth, especially with Titanium Backup you do a one click restore, and get a sms backup tool. Simple clean switch. Just make sure not to copy system data with TI, which would give you the same results as a dirty flash.

Hi,
History:
I have a problem with my Nexus. It randomly reboots. Nothing seems to help.
It started after a few months after I was rooted on CyanogenMod 10.0. In 3 days, it quickly escalated to a reboot every 10 minutes on average.
A factory reset (without user apps installed on it) on CynogenMod reduced the frequency (every hour?), but didn't eliminate it.
Unrooting to stock Jellybean 4.1.2 seemed fine only in the first week. The problem came back afterwards, and updating to JB 4.2.1 didn't help.
Now, 2 months on stock ROM, I get even more random times. Sometimes it is 2 times a day, sometimes once a week.
Just before it:
I get a metallic screeching noise for 1-2 seconds, and immediately following that, device turns off with a "pang". Although these days I HAVE had situations that the sound came for up to 3 seconds (and the screen freezes), but the phone worked normally afterwards.
What happens:
It randomly reboots. The rebooting is at irregular intervals, whatever i was doing on it (even when not using it).
What happens after:
It takes much, much longer to startup again. It can get stuck at the "Google" logo screen for up to 5min. It doesn't take this long to reboot if I shut it down myself.
Any ideas? What causes this? Is it software or hardware?
Can I even send it for warranty if I cannot reproduce the problem?
I don't want to send it to warranty if I don't have to. I don't want to loose my phone for I don't know how long.
Hi, what's your eMMC version? Maybe buggy memory, try looking at other threads.

Have you tried different batteries?
GeeNex | Carbon nightlies | Rubiks
I'm new to this eMMC thing, but according to an app my eMMC Type is V3U00M. To check whether it is buggy or not it needs root, which I don't currently have. If it IS buggy, I don't have a choice but to bring it for warranty right?
No, I have not tried to changed batteries. I don't have other batteries. But can the problem really lie with the battery? Btw, my phone is less than 8 months old.

Well, try waranty, that chip is buggy. Mine too )) but I just live with it using lagfix app and discard mount options, but things requires root. Good luck.

Well, I am planning to root again. I want to switch back to CyanogenMod 10.1. Lagfix app isn't needed if you can use -discard mount option right? How to use either, if let's say I'm on CyanogenMod. This is also the first time I hear of lagfix and discard mount... :/
Btw, the app i used to check my eMMC Type said that my chip is ok. No brickbug. Are you sure it's buggy?

I might be wrong here, but from what I've read at the link and other xda posts (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029246), the V3U00M chip is not buggy (in the sense that it's stable for rooting and using the -discard command), but it does give slowdowns. I do have horrible slowdowns, so thanks for that solution I didn't know existed. However, this doesn't solve my random reboot problem at all...
No one else got any solid way to find out the source of the problem?

Same as you man...
I'm seriously considering throwing my phone to the garbage. I don't like iPhones, but google is really pushing me into it with this crappy piece of phone. Is so frustrating to have these rebooting issues, I've tried everything, from wipe to factory reset, back to stock, flash custom ROMS and KERNELS, turning location access off, uninstalling all apps/widgets that might interfere, and every single "solution" it's out there, and STILL I'M HAVING THESE DAMN REBOOTS!
Now it's even worse, I can't even transfer files to my phone anymore because, guess what... IT REBOOTS! everytime I transfer ANY KIND of file.
The only thing that seems to work for a while is reformatting and start from scratch. I've done that like 3 times already. But still after a few weeks the issue reapears... i'm really mad about this, and no one seems to care. Not Google and not even Samsung.
The only interesting thing that i found around the internet is this guy's findings
plus.google.com/113601948978986762347/posts/2ALASEC1dG2
I read the log on my phone and matches to his... but now the thing is, what do i do with this information? I'm not a programmer o something like that.
Any ideas?
I think your board is faulty. Even so, have you tried disabling SR and raising voltages across the board? Trimming eMMC? Omapflash?

Hey! Thanks for the reply but I'm just a regular user with just a little bit of computer knowledge... so the things you mentioned are basically Chinese to me

He is saying that you have root you need to install trickster mod from the play store. Open the app and go to specific. Then disable the smart reflex toggles and click the oké button in the upper right corner see if that works. If it doesnt re enable smart reflex and go tot MPU voltages. Next to the words MPU voltages there is a blue plus/minus button. Click that and click the plus one time. Accept it and push again the oke button. The other two things I dont exactly know..

Honestly, if you are getting reboots on a clean stock (including stock kernel) , it's probably a hardware issue.

I tried both things you mentioned with no luck
I'm still searching around for those other things beekay201 mentioned earlier. I found that Omap Flash is a tool for flash roms in binary mode, so that way you can unbrick some phones. Still trying to find out how that can be useful for my case (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242330)

The thing is that after a clean stock install everything works fine for a week or two, that means no random reboots, and i can transfer any kind of file of any size with no problem. Then for some estrange reason (even with no crazy apps installed) starts with a random reboot, after that first reboot i know is time and that i wont be able to transfer files anymore, because it WILL reboot while i'm transfering files. Other thing i have noticed is that around where the camera lens is, get really hot. So I think that the reason it reboots is kernel panic caused by overheating, or the other thing is that my sdcard have some issues when writing files.
Right now i'm using CyanogenMod 10.0.0-maguro with jelly bean 4.1.2 and franco.kernel 3.0.51-nightly-512GPU and i have already tried going back to stock.
how can a I check if my hardware is fine? Is there any app out there?
Thanks!

512GPU? You mean your GPU is overclocked? Maybe try to set your GPU to stock. And if it gets really hot and you have random reboots you can try to over volt with trickster mod.

No, I don't think my GPU is overclocked, that's the full name of the kernel, you say that the kernel automatically puts my GPU to 512?. Anyways i just installed that kernel two days ago just because i thought it might make the reboots go away. I'm having rebooting problems since february (just after upgrading to 4.2.1), so i don't think that the GPU is causing the reboots.

Well if it keeps rebooting you can try to over volt. Maybe that helps.
