Alright, a long while I brought up this question as I was hoping to fix my Kindle. Well, I ended up forgetting about my Kindle, and now that it's summer, I'd like to use it again. I forgot how much I missed it.
Anyways, here I am, still stuck with the Wi-Fi Connection issues. I was on a ICS ROM, however it would continuously freeze up on me. It was horrible, so I posted asking what the issue was, and several people basically told me, flash the latest kernel, it fixes this issue. So I was like, wow, simple fix, lets do it. I flashed the kernel, and boom. First thing to notice, Wi-Fi gone. However, the freezing up and crashing stopped, suppose thats a bonus. But, my Wi-Fi was gone. I figured, perhaps if I un-root and flash back to stock it'll fix. No, that didn't do it.
So today, I re-rooted it, I've got CM9 ICS ROM on it, and I still have Wi-Fi issues. Anyone know what I could possibly do?
I did Factory Reset's, Wiped everything clean when flashing my ROM's.
Any help, or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Some details :
Current ROM : CM9
Version : 9-20120706-UNOFFICIAL-otter
Kernel Version : [email protected])) #3 SMP PREEMPT
Kernel Date : Fri Jul 6 04:27:45 CDT 2012
Forgot to add: The issue at the moment is that when I turn wi-fi on, it gets stuck at the "Turning Wi-Fi On" screen. It never displays an places to connect, and I can never actually do anything. It just stays at "Turning Wi-Fi On"
Anything else just ask.
i am no pro or anything but if it didn't work on stock or when you reflashed I would say its an internal component but dont let me discourage you because I may be wrong.
edit: have a look here this might help

Thank you for your reply. I suppose, I should've been more descriptive of my issue.
It's not even sure if I can connect to wi-fi. It may be possible, but when I go to turn Wi-Fi on, its stuck at "Turning Wi-Fi On"
1)
IF FOR SOME REASON WIFI DOESN'T WORK ON THE FIRST BOOTUP DO THE FOLLOWING:
Enter Terminal Emulator
Type: su
Type: fix-mac.sh
Exit Terminal Emulator
Reboot
2) If that didn't work try setting your connection from DHCP to Static
3) If those didn't work do a hard reset of your router and try the above steps again.
If it still doesn't work I'm guessing it's a hardware issue with the Kindle.

I did the fix-mac.sh and it didn't work. I just want to say ;
I don't have options for Wi-Fi. This isn't necessarily a Wi-Fi issue. It's more or less, allowing me to even use Wi-Fi.
When you navigate to the wi-fi section, you first have to turn it on. Well, when I turn it on, my device gets hung at the "Turning On Wi-Fi" page. It doesn't move past that. So I can't even ATTEMPT a connection to my Wi-Fi. In other words, it's basically not turning Wi-Fi on.
So this isn't an issue with connecting to my router, or any of that. It's an issue with turning wi-fi on. >_< sorry if you got confused with that. I'm doing my best to explain, quite tired at the moment.
You should try flashing the gedeROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619550
I never had problems turning on my Wi-Fi with it. Before flashing Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache, and Factory Reset (it will wipe all your data/apps)
The ROM though tends to drop the connection when downloading gameloft apps.
If you don't want to switch ROMs you should
1) Download your current ROM again and put it on the SD Card
2) Wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache - You don't have to do a Factory Reset when staying with the same ROM though it wouldn't hurt to wipe it.
3) Flash the ROM.
Good Luck
Same thing that's happening to me... can't turn wifi on or off, i get a lot of errors in logcat, the mac-fix.sh script doesn't do anything and the problem remains even when changing roms (i tried cm9, gedeROM and modaco, wiping cache/dalvik, data and system partitions each time with no luck). I'm starting to think it's a hardware problem.

I don't think its a hardware problem. Well I hope its not. Wondering if its a possibility that the kernel really messed things up somehow and its like locked. But I am glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue. Saddened that it has no solution.

I had similar issues with my phone...first reflash your rom. Reboot to recovery. Flash the kernel. Reboot. Always make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache. This could all be happening from a bad flash

I'm having an issue with the data connection on my DINC. As of Monday my phone is no longer able to get 3G and will only get 1x if anything at all. The 1x connection is very intermittent and if a network connection is established it's very slow and doesn't last long. WIFI works with no problems.
In Menu/Settings/Wiresless & Networks/Mobile Network Settings are the selections are checked. Mobile Network is checked as well, but it greys out frequently as it cycles through "turning on…" and "connected" - when its connected its with 1x and usually does not result in actually having a network connection.
My phone is rooted and running Sky Raider 4.3, but I didn’t make any changes (no rom flashes, kernal/radio changes, new apps, etc) that would result in the data issue I'm seeing, just a sudden onset. I did a factory reset and reflashed SR4.3 and KInGdOm ReWiND 3D 2.3.3 and get the same results. I tried changing my radio from 2.15.00.11.19 to 07.28 and that didn't help either. I called Verizon and there isn't any network outages in my area (Denver) that would be causing this problem. I went through troubleshooting with them and they said the next step is to try a new phone which I don't want to do at this time.
I don't know what else to do so any guidance is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Sounds like you have the famous 3G drops problem. Thanks to newtoroot, rmk and incubus26jc, there's an easy fix:
1.Nandroid
2.Wipe everything
3. Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087077
4.Wipe everything again
5.Nandroid restore
Should be fixed!
Thanks AgalychnisCallidryas!!! That did the trick!
No problem at all. Just had the same problem today myself.
Glad I saw this. Had the exact same issue and this resolved it.

I was following these directions and after flashing the Rom, I seem to have lost root.
I can't boot into recovery and Rom manager says Su is not present. I just want to get into
Recovery so I can wipe and reinstall my nanbackup. Thoughts?

Do any of your rooted apps work? If they have the same prompt, try updating your SuperUser then force closing those apps before opening them again to see if this fixes them.
Also, have you unchecked Fastboot under Settings > Power? Manually boot into recovery if the previous resolved your rooted apps/rom manager issue.
I am running synergy rls1 and i know what broke my data connection in this way. It was epst (##778#) I went into it to change my slot cycle index and when i went to commit changes it said sucessfull and that it would reboot in 10 secs or i could press ok so i pressed ok and it fcd and went back to dial pad it also killed my data and voice. So i reebooted and when it came up my data was 1x then 3g then out compleetly. There appears to be some sort of issue with epst at least with synergy rls1. Can anyone confirm that their data broke after using##778#? I actually tried this twice after the first time i did fix above and then tried epst again and it broke data again so im pretty sure its not a fluke.
Thank god for this posting. I was searching for almost a week for a fix. This totally fixed my 3G issue.
cmlusco,
I have no idea what ##778# does, I've never performed that action before. Whatever it does, if it is along the same lines of *228 (or #228, well whatever) then I have seen recommendations to perform this on Verizon based roms i.e. not Sprint ports.

This did NOT fix my 3G problem. I'm running CM7 and this just started happening to me a few days ago at the start of my family vacation. My wife, mother&father in-law and I all have the same phone. My wife's is rooted and running CM7 as well. They all have 3G and I don't. At first I thought it was Verizon just throttling me but I've only used 1.4Gigs so far this month. Beginning to think this is a hardware issue.
make sure you reboot into the rmk rom once to make sure your 3g stuff is working before you restore your backup.
i used the instructions in this thread and everything was back to normal:

Thanks bro.. I think that did the trick. I got caught in a boot loop the first install? IDK I wiped everything. I rewiped, new install...working like a charm
BTW, do you know if there are any themes for this ROM??
I currently have Jandycane 1.3 flashed and I'm having some really weird issues. Every time I turn Wifi on and it detects my network, my router starts to act up causing it to forcefully reset itself, affecting every device connected to it. I didn't have this issue with Jandycane 1.1 ( I did not flash 1.2 ). I'm not sure if this is an issue with the ROM itself or an issue with the updates Hashcode made, as he's been tweaking with the wifi. I did in fact wipe everything before flashing.
Please excuse me if I have overlooked this being answered before, but as I was trying to search for a solution I was constantly greeted with an error about the board having high traffic.
-
It appears now that if I flash back to 1.0 or 1.1, I have this problem as well. I did not have this problem prior to flashing 1.3, and I have wiped everything (cache, dalvik, factory reset, system and SD card)
And just to note, I realize that not everyone is having this issue but myself and some others are.
-
After a few reboots I managed to get Wifi working again on 1.0, but still cannot get it working on any others.
-
Flashed 1.3 over 1.0 making sure to only wipe the two caches and kept wifi on. Upon booting, Wifi now works without a problem. Still not sure what the problem was/is but at least it's resolved for now.

Im using 1.3 and it works fine. Try to reflash it
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using XDA Premium HD app
I tried that, thinking it might have been a bad flash but the problem still persists. I also downloaded the ROM again to make sure it wasn't a bad download, but after flashing it, the same problem occurs.
I cannot connect to my router with any of the jelly bean builds it perpetually attempts to connect always saving then going right back to acquiring ip address
After downloading Hashcode's ROM, I can say in good faith that the problem persists in the newer update that Hashcode has done while he was fixing the wifi issues. I did not have this problem on either ROM prior to the recent update, but now Wifi does not work at all and when it is scanning for networks, the second it picks up mine it sends some kind of signal to my router and forces it to constantly reset itself.

I'll give his a go. I didn't flash it as I was worried it would suffer from the same problem as the others recently have started doing, I also noticed a few complaints about the UI force closing. Guess it's really the only JB solution for now until this issue is resolved. I have a Dalvik log in case Hashcode wants to take a peek.

For me it worked great last night; then when I got home I could not even enable WiFi. On a lark I reflashed 1.3 [with only cache wipe, not /data], and the WiFi started working again, and still is, now.
Even with it working, I'm seeing many wpa_supplicant errors, including:
D/wpa_supplicant( 561): nl80211: survey data missing!
I/wpa_supplicant( 561): wpa_driver_nl80211_driver_cmd: Unsupported command SETSUSPENDMODE 1
Any ideas?
I've recently been trying out ICS ROMs for the Evo, but decided to return to Gingerbread because ICS seems to mess up GPS accuracy, no matter which ROM I try. I'm now on my third different Gingerbread ROM today because I've run into a problem I've never seen before. When I first install I'm able to turn on WiFi and connect to my router no problem, but sometime later, the phone refuses to connect. In wireless settings you can turn on WiFi, and it will think about it for awhile, and then just stop trying. Sometimes I get a com.android.settings not responding message, but not always. Anyway, I tried searching for this but couldn't really even figure out how to word it. This sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.
Re-Install your Rom, first.
Update your Radios.
Simple.

Try what Nickitt said first, and if that doesn't work, try this out --
Go into recovery, clear boot, dalvik, and do a factory reset. Then, install a ROM of your choice.
For some odd reason, I started having similar WiFi issues on my EVO after installing the Mason kernel, where the WiFi would indicate that it's on for a few seconds, and then move back to the off position (or, it would stay permanently in the state where it seems like it's turning on). Reflashing the ROM by itself didn't work, but clearing boot somehow did the trick.
Go figure.

I failed to mention initially, but I did try updating the radios as well. Regardless, I'm not having the problem anymore, and it's possible that there was simply something in my Titanium backups (done while on ICS) that it didn't like. I started thinking back on the timing and realized that the issue was showing up only after I went through the batch restore process, so this time I only restored a few apps that had data I didn't want to lose, and nothing else. So far so good.
Except of course that I'm now having a new problem that may be associated with a2sd, but I'll post that in that Deck's Reloaded thread...
Thanks!
I had a lot of force closes after restoring ICS backups in GB. Don't think the backups are backwards compatable...not all the time anyway.
I was connected to my wifi, left my phone alone for a few hours, and when I came back (yesterday), i saw the wifi not connected. I go to try and reconnect it, and it says wifi turning on, and nothing else happens, it is stuck there. I can not get it to connect to my wifi. Any idea what could cause this? what can I do?
Gsm galaxy nexus, paranoid android 3.99 android 4.3.
mobile data, calls, text, etc all work great, only problem is wifi seems to be stuck. I tried rebooting, but still nothing.

Could indeed be your wifi antenna. Had a similar experience with a T-Mo MyTouch3G a while back. Same symptoms.
Are you clearing all caches, factory resetting, and wiping the system partition from recovery?
Last case, you should restore to absolutely stock, relocking your bootloader and everything.

Awesome, thanks for responding, was beginning to wonder if anyone was reading it
What I tried so far (each time wiping dalvic cache, cache, and doing full factory reset from both within android and cwm):
Factory reset on paranoid android 3.99 android 4.3 = nothing
Install cyanogemod 4.3 = nothing
Restore my nandroid backup of bixie deodexed stock rom (which i used before going to paranoid) = nothing
try other version of android from 4.1, 4.2, etc. on varion roms = nothing
restore to google stock (as far stock as possible minus locking bootloader, means yes, stock recovery and everything), 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 = nothing.
ran out of ideas, learned alot though, and got more flashing experience than I care. Did learn how to adb backup, more about android backups, etc though. Some good has come out of it, but my original problem of wifi was and is still not resolved.
Unless there are other ideas, I am pretty convinced the wifi antenna/module died (and a google search confirms others have had something similiar happen, they had to replace the pcb to fix it, which is costly where i live, Argentina). So may just use it sans wifi until I get a new phone, thing has a couple years anyway and nexus 5 is about to be announced.
But I am open to any and all suggestions least I still have hpsda+ speeds 70% of the time.

This thread is over a year old, but I'm having the same problems lately. The device was reluctant to auto-connect to known wifi networks, which I attributed to the current and latest CM11 snapshot. Then, a few weeks ago, the phone became unstable, with random reboots 3 or 4 times a day. Clearing cache and Dalvik cache didn't help. I didn't want to do a full-wipe, with CM 12 on the horizon. About 2 days ago all wifi reception stopped. I could activate wifi in the software, but the device wouldn't receive any signal at all (checked with Wifi Analyzer). So I was afraid that the wifi died out permanently. This morning, in a last attempt I switched off the phone and took out the battery for a couple of minutes. On restart I was surprised to see that wifi found a known network and received an ip-address. However, an internet connection never established and the menu reported a bad reception. I then de-activated and re-activated wifi, but that didn't bring me any further. I guess I'll wait for the first CM12 nigthlies to find out if miracles still exist.
Hello,
I have owned a Sprint Galaxy S III since August of 2012 and have been using it pretty much flawlessly until this week.
To give some history, I rooted it once it became a common thing to do and have CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4.
I have loaded many different roms - cyanogenmods, m.o.a.r., wicked, miui to try out and many others and have never had an issue.
I recently upgraded to M.O.A.R. v 6.0 at home and everything seemed great - loaded apps, settings, etc. The next day on the way to work, the phone restarted by itself. I thought was strange but chalked it up to a new rom issue. When I got to work, the frequency of the issue increased to the point that the phone was no longer usable as it would just continue to restart, boot, etc.
Restoring the rom I previously had did nothing to help the issue.
I looked up online at possibilities and came across the SD card issue. I replaced it, but still occurs. I've tried a few different roms and no matter what, it seems to continuously boot and restart based on certain locations that I am in or am passing through.
Today, I turned off 4G LTE as preferred mobile network and it seemed to keep the phone on. I have not done extensive testing, but could this be an issue? I am able to use 4G LTE at home with no problem as well as other areas, but it seems that once I am in or pass through certain locations, that it is crashing my phone? Maybe the GPS?
Are there any tips or suggestions of what I can do or try? I am at a loss as to how to fix this when it has not been an issue up until this week after flashing to MOAR v6.0. I've wiped data, cache, dalvik, many times and retried but still is happening.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
At first it sounded like sudden death syndrome (a power button failure) but when you said turning off 4G fixed it that is very weird. Have you tried asking in the M.O.A.R thread?

Hello,
I have owned a Sprint Galaxy S III since August of 2012 and have been using it pretty much flawlessly until this week.

Are you restoring any System Data ? I would suggest doing a Clean install. Meaning a FULL Wipe : System - Data - Dalvik - Dalvik Cache - Factory Reset ( 3x's ) . I also like to wipe Internal Storage. But that's up to you. Then Flash the Rom, and let it Boot. Do not load anything, or tweak anything. Just leave the device alone for the first 5min. Then test it to be sure everything is working correctly before loading apps, or doing any settings.
Just to update...
I clean installed MOAR 6 again - this time I upgraded CWM to latest version. I clean wiped data/cache, cache, dalvik about 3 or 4 times. Once it reinstalled, I noticed the data wasn't working at all so I did that ##72786# (forgot numbers off top of head) that reactivated phone. The data came back and I thought this was going to solve all the issues...keep in mind I did all this in the evening from home last night.
On the way to work this morning, sure enough once I got in the vicinity of work, phone restarted a few times. I was quick enough to catch it one time to turn preferred mobile networks to 3G first and disable 4G... my phone has not restarted for the rest of the day.
It's great that it seems the issue is isolated to 4G, but I don't understand how it can be fine in some areas and not in others. For instance, at home, 4G works just fine.
I think I will try to go back to stock or try an aosp rom. I've seen in some places talk of MB1 and MD4...is there a way to tell which I have or is that related to anything?

Actually, yes - I have been putting my gmail account information in and it has been syncing the apps. It's just so odd because I haven't had issues for over a year and I don't recall installing any new stuff.
well, now it happened at home when turning on 4g... damn.

You did not mention wiping system. If you do not Wipe system, and also Factory Reset then it's really not a Clean install. I would still suggest a FULL Wipe, and Clean install. Then run the Device for a while without adding anything. See how it performs.
I ended up just flashing this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 to stock with flash reset.
I am not sure about wiping system - I always just follow the steps of the rom wipe data/cache/dalvik. I will have to research on how to wipe system.
If you never wipe system you are definitely going to run into problems.

You just do it in Recovery before you flash. If you look at my Sig on a PC / Internet Mode there is a link on how to do Full Wipe before flashing a Rom.
