{Script} {APP} CPU Sleeper, The Battery Saver Mod! 07/06/2012 { Release 3 Reversion 1 - Acer Iconia Tab A100

App Version:
CPU Sleeper
~Free to all XDA Memebers
~ Must Be Rooted to use App
What is it?
Its a fairly simple App that will put CPU 1/2/3 OFFLINE when the screen turns off. Once the screen comes back on, it will allow CPU 1/2/3 back ONLINE.
How does it work?
Since we have Dual & Quad core CPUs, we have a CPU 0 and a CPU 1/2/3, core 0/1/2/3, while the screen is off we really only need to have 1 core active "CPU0", this App will make sure CPU 1/2/3 shuts off while the screen is off, then resumes normal usage when the screen comes back on.
Compatibility?
Works with any Dual Core & Quad Core Devices!
~ICS
~Gingerbread
Battery Saving?
Battery savings all depends on Usage & idle times.
App Download: CPUSleep.apk
Version 1.3 Release Notes:
~ Fixed issue with Phone getting hot
~ Secondary Cores will now Disable while Talking on Phone if Needed
~ Secondary Cores Now Come back online
~ Fixed Superuser Notification being displayed every second
~ Fixed Cores Coming back online while screen is Off
~ Phone's while charge semi-faster while not being used
~ Fixed Lag issue when coming back online
~ Auto-Start on Reboot is still borked

Handlerexploit for co-creation of this wonderful App.

Thanks for remembering us little A100 guys over here
For those that don't know, this is the guy that made the CPU Sleeper script I posted about, he made an App version of it.

Look very useful!I will try it.

Works like a champ counteracting OC battery usage, thanks.

Does CPU Sleeper require root access?
When I try to start the service, Superuser denies access.
How can I get Superuser to allow the CPU Sleeper service to run?

Yes, it is the 2nd statement above.

Go into the super user app, and remove the allow/disallow option for it, then try it again.
The app requires SU, the script does too, but is run in the background, so SU never asks about it or cares that it runs.

Thanks, @pio_masaki, but how do I allow an app in Superuser? I run Superuser, but I don't see any way to allow/disallow apps.
Update: I apparently had lost my root access and had to re-root. Working fine now. Thanks again for your help.

Why doesn't it work with my S2 (v1.25) ???

If its the phone in your signature, I would ask in that forum, this is for Acer A100 Tablets...
Anyways, how does it not work? Some detail would be helpful.

[Guide] How to Root / Overclock T-mobile Official 3.6.390 Rom

Here is a simple step by step guide to rooting / overclocking your updated Defy. If you are like me you upgraded to the new OTA (over the air) firmware only to lose your root access / overclock
As with any free advice given out on XDA, if your phone gets borked and / or something goes wrong while you are trying to root / overclock, I do not work for Motorola and I take no responsibility for your $500 brick.
ROOTING PROCESS STEP BY STEP
1. Download and install the Motorola Mobile Phone USB Drivers (for Windows®)
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=bda09ec8009a0210VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD
2. Download and Unzip SuperOneClickRoot (thanks to SteveChou)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=489694&d=1295035181
3. Make sure have usb debugging checked on your phone (menu - settings - applications - development - check usb debugging)
4. Plug your phone into your PC and put your phone's USB connection into "Portal and tools" mode. (After youplug your phone in, pull down the notification bar, click on USB connection then toggle Portal and tools.) and close any Motorola Portal Windows that pop up.
5a. XP USERS ONLY:
Make sure you are logged in with an administrator level user account and run the SuperOneClick.exe file that you extracted in step 2. Then Click Root (The whole process takes less than a minute.)
5b. VISTA/7 USERS ONLY:
Right click on the SuperOneClick.exe that you extracted earlier and click Run as Administrator. Then Click Root (The whole process takes less than a minute.)
OVERCLOCKING PROCESS (These are the setting I have been using for a few days with no lockups / force closes YMMV):
1. Go to Market on your phone and download SetVsel
2. Run SetVsel and input the following settings:
28 [email protected] MHZ
44 [email protected] MHZ
58 VSEL3 @1100 MHZ
Check Apply @ Boot Toggle
3. Click Apply+Quit
That's All Folks!

I tried milestone for a few days, but I've noticed better battery life with SetVsel. I was barely making it through the day (7am - 8pm) with Milestone, Setvsel seems to get me through the night. Then again, who knows maybe I was just using it more that week.
cheers dude think you maybe right looking at your settings the voltages are lower than the defults set by milestone think ill give it a go see how i get on

Thanks. The other two as I understand are like this: First one at 300 is for when the screen is off. It runs the lowest possible to conserve everything. The second one is when the screen is on, so the phone can do what it has to without lagging. The third one is the max the phone can run, so you can run whatever you want, and not worry about slowness or lagging as it will use what it needs up to the max setting. People I see do what you did and just overclock the max to get the full potential out of the chip. The ones that change the first two either want even better battery life, or a little more power midrange when the phone is just on doing its normal stuff. Me, I am using inteks settings on the first page in the screen shot, 300 @30, 700 @54, 1200 @70. Super smooth with heavy load. Scored 1218 on Quadrant. Very stable and I'm happy.
AWSOME
Did the rooting super fast got it under 20 sec lol but just installed SetVsel and app is force closing on me
Edit: Nevermind just rebooted the phone now its working very fast rooting and overclocking
Does rooting the phone this way require the 3G fix after root?
3g fix? ??? I havent had any problems since rooting and 3g is working like charm just like when i opened it brand new

temp root + overclock
is it possible? use the temporary root option and then use it to overclock to 1ghz?
so that i can still unroot it in the future...
temporary root did nothing for me, had to use permanent root option
and u can stil unroot even if u use permanent option
which is better?
is this better than z4root? over 3.6.360 version?!
does it resets the phone or clear anything up after rooting?!
would you still be able to use tmobile's apps and features? like updates OTA in the future?!
thanks!
@lucid i have the same firmware version as you and it rooted fast and also dint erase anything from the phone left it as it is now from the ota updates i believe there not affected
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
which one did you use? or would you say better? z4root or the superOneClick?
SuperOneClick v1.6.5 is the latest with "unroot" option right?!
I used superoneclick for 2.1 it says but I also have the new version that has the unroot option but havent tried it and z4root ive read that still doesnt work with the new firmware update

rooted!
ok now i rooted my phone and it said SUCCESS in the end, that means it went OK right?
after this should i use milestone ot setvsel or setcpu? which one would you guys prefer?
i'm trying setvsel now nut it doest show me:
VSEL1
VSEL2
VSEL3
just the round lightning with slider bar and the rest of the messages
can i also uncheck the USB debugging now?
thanks!
Cool now your rooted the setvsel thing happend to me also just unistall and reinstall and that should fix it if not turn off phone and turn on again as i did and yes you can disable the debugging mode without problems
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
hi again, how do you get the vsel set to 65 for 1.3ghz
all i'm getting aside from lower values of 800mhz are:
1000mhz, 74vsel
1200mhz, 80vsel
1200mhz, 80vsel (custom)
does vsel means the higher the value the more power it consumes compare to
yours set to 65?
oh btw, if i factory reset this, is it still rooted and overclocked?
The lower vsel value the less baterry ir uses bit might cause stabability issues and id you factory reset it stays rooted but overclocked i cant say cause the app is what controls the overclocking so i would guess it goes to factory clock

[APP] Rom Toolbox

If you haven't tried this app already, definitely give it a shot. So many features. It basically incorporates Titanium, Root Explorer, Voltage Control, SetCPU, SD Card Boost, ROM Manager, TMobile ThemeChooser (for CM7), Terminal Emulator, Ad Blocker, Rebooter, V6 Supercharger, Autokiller, Font Installer, Custom Boot Animations, Battery Icon Changer, Boot Logo Changer, and probably several other common Root apps all-in-one. You can mess with Build.prop tweaks, vm heapsize, sysctl tweaks, and more. AND it lets you Apply any changes you make on Boot.
And the best part.....ALL FREE!!!! (though there is a donate version, not sure what the extra features are - but all I mentioned above is in free version)
Let me know what you think:

Thanks for the tip...I just got it and MAN is it amazing! I'll play around with it some more, but if it holds up...I'll buy the donate version. Really good app!

what other things can you set at boot in the paid version that you can't in the free version? cuz u can set governor, sd card read speed, and other things at boot for free..
possibly a result of some tweaks i just made using Rom Toolbox, I'm flying right now. Faster than ever. Here's what I changed, just in case anyone can point out if I did anything bad:
Auto memory manager
6,8,24,30,40,50 (same as Aggressive 1 settings in V6 Supercharger)
vm heap size = 32
sd boost = 3072
Min Free KBytes = 4096
Dirty Ratio = 90
Dirty Background Ratio = 70
VFS Cache Pressure = 5
Oom Kill Allocating Task - SET ON
Applied everything at boot, obviously. I did a little research on what to change these values to, and so far these values have definitely sped me up considerably.

Great so far. The improved performance is even more noticeable, however. only thing you might want to change, if you know what it is, is the oom kill allocating task setting. a lot of people seem to leave it off, but from what i understood it did, keeping it on should save more battery and just operate more efficiently (makes the killing off of tasks to regain ram less random). so far there's been no downside to having it on. also, you might want to test out putting the vfa cache pressure setting to 1. many people do that, too.
It requires the pro version to freeze apps

Well, he did make the change with Rom Toolbox. To the guy with the battery issue, I think you need to be on a deodexed rom to change the battery.
WOW!!! The speed change is amazing!!!! hard to believe that just a few tweaks did that!

Yea... don't get me wrong I'm sure all the functions work great, and it's not like I tried anything else with it. Having one freeze was enough for me to stick with the ways of doing things that I know I never have issues with. But knowing me I'll just keep the paid version and try again at some later date. Maybe something just glitched during the reboot.

Not sure if this will help, but I have the pro version as well and was able to successfully change the battery icon. I liked having the number off to the side so since I have the ICS theme on my phone, I used that battery icon. I think it's 'Bar Ice Cream Sandwich'.

How do I go about overclocking my HTC One X?

Hi all I'm fairly new to these forums, although I have been watching from afar for quite some while now!
I have been trying out custom roms and various kernels and was wondering how do I go about overclocking my device? Only reason I am asking is because I was checking out benckmark results for other devices and noticed some can be particularly high.
Any insight would be most appreciated!
I wouldnt try any overclocking on the HOX because of the heat issues. A more safe and stable way of doing it is changing the govenor of the kernel or forcing cores online. I think you can use core control (in the apps and themes section) to change core behaviour and system tuner to change govenor.

I have now installed core control. Got to admit it is nice having the option to save a bit more power. How much as an estimate do each of cores use anyway just out of interest?

you can download an app called tegrastats to find out more but all you should know is this. once you activate the corecontrol and depending what app you use you should be fine. if i was you i would also use no-frills cpu app. that way you can underclock and would save you more juice

Fantastic! Many thanks for the advice. I have now installed no-frills cpu, and started to tinker around with the settings. Could I ask as I am still fairly new to some of this, when I first went on to the settings both maximum and minimum were set to 1.5 GHz (Not sure if it was just saying this on the app or not or if these are the actual settings) but I would guess this would use a lot more power am I right?

{Script} CPU1 disabler while in sleep!!! The Battery Saver Mod!

Script Version!
This time I present to you a script that will in theory (and so far for me, in reality) save us some battery without having to risk our hardware with undervolting! I present to you...
CPU Sleeper
Honestly the Script can be made to work with any Dual Core / Quad Core! The Only Problem is you need to be Rooted!
~ Currently the issue with CM9, is that the boot becomes incomplete while in init.d folder without Modification to the sysinit..
~ however, with any rooted device you can download the script & continue to use it via a script manager app on every boot.
~ With the Script Manager App, this script virtually can run on any Multi-Processor CPU
Hope that clears things Up,
~~Eugene

What is it?
Its a fairly simple script that will put CPU 1 OFFLINE when the screen turns off. Once the screen comes back on, it will allow CPU 1 back ONLINE.
How does it work?
Since we have dual core CPUs, we have a CPU 0 and a CPU 1, core 1 and core 2, while the screen is off we really only need to have 1 core active, this script will make sure CPU 1 shuts off while the screen is off, then resumes normal usage when the screen comes back on.
WARNING! READ THIS!
This script relies on init.d OR script manager! CM9, for some reason, tends to run this at the exact same time it runs some other script (I forget atm which) and it will clash, causing no boot! CM9 users MUST use the script manager version install! Flex Reaper appears to work fine with it as init.d. I strongly urge you to use the script manager version of this, NOT the flashable version. Always make a nandroid backup before modifying the system, including this!
Instructions
Available in 2 versions, script only version which you can place wherever you want and run however you want, or a CWM/TWRP flashable zip that will place the file for you in /system/etc/init.d and set permissions.
Version 1: Flashable
Same as any of my flashable releases, I did most of the work for you!
Make a full backup
Download to external SD card
Install from SD card
Pick the cpu sleeper zip file
it'll be almost instant
reboot
Shouldn't be any need to clear caches or anything like that.
Version 2: Script only
This can be run in 2 ways, via init.d support, or via script manager. Both are pretty similar, and can be done a number of ways, however this is the basis of how.
Init.d supported kernel:
Make a backup!
Download the script file, making sure no extensions get added onto the file. Copy the file to /system/etc/init.d and set the permissions to the following:
XOX
XOX
XOX
Once done, reboot the system, and it will take effect when your system is finished rebooting.
Script Manager
This method is probably the better method, and should work with any kernel/ROM. Download the script file, making sure no file extensions get added, and copy it to /system/etc. Set the file permissions to:
XOX
XOX
XOX
Once done, load up script manager, select browse as root (if it isn't already set from the crossix mod method in the guide) then browse to /system/etc and select the script file S98cpu_sleep, then select ROOT and BOOT options. After this is set, reboot system.
What do I do if I can't boot after using this?
You made that backup, right? Ok, then here is what you do.
Hold the power button until the tablet powers off
Press and hold the volume down button, next to the screen lock switch
Press and hold Power (while holding volume down)
Once the recover kernel message comes up, release the buttons
In CWM go to advanced, mounts, mount system, then format system
In TWRP, go to wipe, then wipe system
In CWM go to restore, advanced restore, restore ONLY system
In TWRP select restore, then uncheck all so ONLY system is checked
After restoring system, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then reboot system.
System should boot normally.
Downloads
Available in 2 versions, script only version which you can place wherever you want and run however you want, or a CWM/TWRP flashable zip that will place the file for you in /system/etc/init.d and set permissions.

Thanks! It's been confirmed working perfect for all Dual / Quad Cores device with no ill effect..
I think that this script is placebo effect if someone thinks to see a difference in battery life. On the Galaxy Nexus this maybe is a battery saver, but on the Galaxy s3 Samsung has delivered us the pegasusq governor and controls every core for itself. So your script doesn't change anything in the functionality if I understand it correct what it does. Because without this script the phone shuts down the uneeded cores, so where's the difference?
L
@ the op, what are you getting in terms of time without charge?
I've seen these ideas come and go and I give you merit for trying.
What is your up time from max charge to depletion?
If it works it works and I'm sure people will use it , we just need to make sure it's not a placebo and that it is actually saving battery.
Is there any lag on wake? Does the script ever cause too deep a sleep, forcing a restart or battery pull? What's been your experience?
I am curious about this because I've found the battery life on this phone to be no better than my evo 3D.
Many thanks.

edit: Isn't this what a Tegra 3 does? It has 4 cores and a sleep core. This might be good for non Tegra 3 devices but I can't see this helping.

No lag, battery is increased & there is no placebo!
This has been confirmed from Quad-core users before even posting it...... You only see Battery increase during sleep, if you are a heavy user then likely no you will not see any increase......
however, this works great due to android even when asleep still uses all the CPU..... I Don't f'k care if it's being report offline.....
when asleep, this scripts force all CPU offline until awake, as 1 cpu asleep can handle everything the phone is doing.

hmmm, I've watched how the cores behave for quite some time via adb. Actually everytime I send the phone to sleep mode aka push power button, core 1-3 is going offline. So I guess pegasusq does its work already

When you say script manager, do you mean SManager from Google Play?
This is a nonsense implementation. I don't advise anybody to use it.
It's a while loop just trying to send the CPUs into offline mode every 2 seconds per CPU, or every 6 seconds per CPU if you're turning off 3 cores. It does absolutely nothing to prevent the cores from powering up in terms of hot-plug logic and it can even decrease the battery life if there is some kind of load that would trigger a CPU to get online; so CPUs might just go online and then get shut down.
Edit: Oh, you also absolutely fail to mention that this script will turn on all 4 CPUs while screen on, completely disregarding hotplugging.

lmao... Correct.... This is why I can care less about this Forums even though It's be Proven to save battery... But, Clearly you know more than me... So Please for the love God & Don't use it..
Sorry, got to Ask though? Why have other CPU's if you can use during wake? Okay then... And since when does Hot=Plugging work Correctly?

Stop whining and address the issues at hand. Turn on DVFS debugging in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/pegasusq/dvfs_debug and open a terminal to monitor /proc/kmsg either on your own device or through ADB to test the screen off nonsense; the core statistics with load of each core, if they're online or not, the runqueue lengths and the frequency for each sampling period of the governor.

I don't know what you mean by this unintelligible piece of gibberish, but I assume you are asking why having multiple CPUs if they are not online. The CPUs are turned on based on load and turned off when idling when there is nothing to do to preserve power. Hotplugging has worked since ever and it works perfectly. I don't know what planet you lived on or what credentials you have to earn that recognized developer title but you have clearly no idea of what you are talking about and have some issues with dealing with criticism.
This script certainly decreases screen-on battery life and in a best case-scenario does nothing to idle time, and in a worst-case scenario decreases it and conflicts with other scaling logics of the processor.

Honestly, if you think it wont work, then don't use it.... However! It's been confirm across the board before you start shooting off with the mouth!
Samsung Hot-Plugging does not work Correct, well this being the case for msm8660, I don't claim to know it all, nor do I want to.. My Problem is people jump the gun without testing & start talking BS before even testing...
This has been confirmed... It does work.... It does Save battery, so why act like a jerk when helping out?

I tested it already and posted how to see the facts and statistics in my last post. You don't own the device, I do.
I see now that you're just very severely confused. This is the INTERNATIONAL (i9300) Galaxy S3 forum. The quadcore or any Exynos for that matter has proper and working hot-plugging. This is not running on Qualcomm processors. Re-read the last 2 phrases 10 times.
Now go back to my last post and read what I wrote before you starting releasing things for a) The wrong device b) Having no clue about the device you are releasing something for. I consider you are clueless since there is currently no quad-core CPU on the planet right now in mobile phones which does not support hot-plugging, so you couldn't have mixed that up.
Your confirmation is coming from some random people which know even less about the facts and installed that script just yesterday, making it worthless and meaningless.
Feel free to argue this with other users as I'm done here.
Edit: By the way, I see that you created a copy of this thread for every single ****ing variant of the S3 [1],[2],[3],[4] (Way to go with all US versions being in the same sub-forum category!). While I don't have access to any of those, I'm fairly sure they also have working hot-plugging.

Ill try it and see how it goes.

There has been countless Number of People that has Confirmed this on the Atrix2 / SGS2 / Sensation / SGS3 and One X is currently being test as well..
However Correct, I do not own this device, other than what People have stated to me in IRC...
If it don't work, well then it don't work.... All I ask is People to test it out without jumping down my ****
I do however owe everyone an apology for last night.. I was Drinking & normally not that hot headed nor will it happen again.
I Highly Recommend Using the App Version.
Thanks,

Overclocking in OsiMood - can't find it

There should be NoFrills CPU control installed in this ROM, but I can't seem to find it. Is it hidden by default?
It's not installed. You can install it from the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DMsIml0LnNpbmVvLmFuZHJvaWQubm9GcmlsbHNDUFUiXQ..
And if you get an app called system apps you can make it a system app easy

What is the benefit in making it a system app? Please educate me? I really don't know what that does.
Not much of a difference other than it can't be removed like the Calender app its a system app. You don't have to make it a system app but you can. I think if you need to factory reset the phone it won't be removed from the phone

Anything can be removed if you have root. I guess not through the regular means. I use titanium backup to remove system apps. I would only make something a system app if it was an app I could not live without.

Thank you all. IIRC, there were screenshots of Glide OC going up to 1300 MHz. What is considered stable/safe for this phone and does it affect battery life much?
Stability will depend on the phone, mine personally is slightly unstable at 1.2ghz, crashing in some 3D games, so I run mine at 1.1ghz. 1.3ghz should be safe assuming it's stable on your phone, try it and see. As for battery life, it should decrease your battery life slightly, depending on how much time your phone actually spends at max speed. I'm a pretty light user, mine is only at max speed about 6% of the time, so it's not a significant hit for me. If you're a heavy user, it'll affect it more.

Cranium offers up to 1.35GHz. That's HIGH. I'm not a heavy user though so mine never goes up that high. For CM7 a special kernel is needed so I think I'll need to edit one of those
Ok, so I've installer No-frills CPU control but don't understand something. Is Osimood 2.06.07 overclocked by default? When I start No-frills, it says that my current maximum CPU clock is 1 GHz (and only lets me choose one higher clock - 1.2Ghz. There is no 1.1 or 1.3 available). I didn't touch or apply anything there, but when I go to CPU statistics it shows that my CPU goes up to 1.2 GHz.
So...
1) why are there limited frequencies listed (missing 1.1, 1.3...)?
2) why does it say that current maximum is 1 GHz, but shows 1.2 in statistics?

I believe I removed it in the lastest version
Was there something you didn't like about it?
Do you have any idea about why are limited frequencies listed (missing 1.1, 1.3...) and why does it say that current maximum is 1 GHz, but shows 1.2 in statistics?
