Hi,
I'm running Vicious V3, and am having issues with wifi tethering. Everything seems fine when I turn on hotspot and my PC will attempt to connect, but as soon as my PC obtains an IP address, 4G/3G drops out on my phone. If i turn off hotspot, my data connection returns with no issues.
Anyone else see this?
Thanks
same problem here...
I'm having same problem. Well, not exactly the same but still. My stock hotspot has never worked in ICS Roms either. I was using wifi tether app and it was working like a charm. But since I got the jelly bean, none of the wi fi tethering apps work. I guess I'm waiting on the update of the app itself.
I've tried Vicious 1 JB, and V5 as well. same problem.
Wifi tethering works fine for me on CM9, so it at least works in ICS ROMs afaik. I've been planning on flashing mROM stock JB soon so I'll have to try that out. Maybe I'll try Vicious as well to see if I have the same issue.
Thanks for replying. Yes like I said. It used to work great in ICS Roms but not in Jelly Bean. Please let me know what to do!!!

Works fine for me now on all JB ROMs I've tried. The tethering apps dont work on JB, but the native wifi tether does. If you dl MoreQuicklyPanel from the play store, you can toggle hotspot from the notification window. I dont have the wifi tether plan from Verizon, and AFAIK using the native hotspot in JB doesnt get back to verizon for charges.
Thanks for the reply. I lost you when you mentioned
"If you dl MoreQuicklyPanel from the play store, you can toggle hotspot from the notification window. I dont have the wifi tether plan from Verizon, and AFAIK..."
What should I try to do from Play Store???
When I tried to use the natives wifi tethering, it connects to the other devices but there is no data bytes being exchanged. It's almost like you're connected to the internet but the web sites do not load up.

i had no problem for the 2+ years i was tethering and using it as my home internet. then one day a few months ago, i got the same message from tmobile. point is, it only takes one time. it has nothing to do with jelly bean or ics, or gingerbread. now i pay $15 a month to tether and use it as my home internet.
Alright, thanks. I hope that is not the case.
Does anyone else have any other experience after switching to jelly bean? Anyone replicate this problem or have an app that works?

Also, I have tried wireless tethering, which is based on same open source software.
It says it started tethering with errors and to check the log, which then says that the log doesn't exist and it can't open it. Same error with opengarden tethering.

my epic 4G has a wifi tether app ( the yallow one ) anyway when i use it to connect my Google Nexus 7" tablet before i update to 4.1.1 it works but after i updated to the latest jelly bean my nexus wont even find the signal anymore,
BTW i tried SVTP WiFi Hotspot and USB Tether - Lite it works but is it safe or does the carrier detect that , thanks
I am on Verizon, and I had a lot of issues when I first moved to jb on 4.1. Originally I used wireless tether app, as I used it on every other version I had. It would not work. I even tried using barnacle from the party site, and same thing.
I finally switched to 4.1.1, and just used the built in tether, and it has been working fine for about 3 weeks now. I never got a message about being to call tech support, but then again this is Verizon and I am not sure who your provider is.
It might be like someone said above about them knowing you are using it, and you need to call to set it up. If that is the case, that sucks.

Yup seems like jb broke the app, I can tether with the native app but on Sprint that knocks you off wimax and only leaves you with 3g. I can confirm its a jb thing because its working fine on my wife's evo that is still on 2.3 also worked fine on ICS. Like others it seems to start up fine but my tabblet won't pick it up.
something clever goes here...
After alot of hit and misses I finally got internet access using pdanet, foxfi, and enabling bluetooth network access. It's not the best but it was wiresless and free.

I've also installed Frosty JB ROM, and cannot tether via wifi by any means. I've also tried Foxfi and WifiTether, neither work. The only app I've gotten to work is EasyTether, and it's connected via USB, not wifi. I didn't try it on ICS, so I can't speak to that. But it definitely doesn't work now.

Yeah so did i. :/
And i was told its all JB leaks. Its kind of weird how we cant tether even while being root. I wonder if something in the kernel or ROM source code is preventing it. And that may be a benefiting factor to why we dont have source code for JB Sammy ROMs yet.
I actually got caught using easytether. Was browsing like normal for a while, then the "please add this service to continue tethering" screen came up. Wish there was a way to do this! I refuse to pay extra per month for this service.
I've got two GS3's... One I've had for a while, is using Ice Cream Sandwich, is rooted and runs wifi tether just fine.
I got another one tonight for the wife and allowed it to update to JellyBean, but it seems we can't root Jellybean to get the free wifi tether. Is this correct or if I root it, is there a wifi tether that works?
If not, what steps do I take to switch back to ICS?
cm10 is one of the few jb rom which has working wifi tether. if you want to go back to ics you can probably find the ics odin tar, however i would just use one of the ics based roms on the thread.
Thanks! I kinda thought this is the direction I would need to go... Can you point me to a link to get the ICS ROM?

From what I can gather from xda and my own experience, wifi tether on cm10 is NOT working. Doesn't sound like it is a cm10 specific issue though. I am on nightly 11-07 and wifi tether appears to work fine but the client doesn't actually get access to the cellular internet data.
I would love to be corrected and get this working though!

I got the wifi tether that's native to CM10 to work when I installed CM10. Only problem now is that CM10 makes the functionality of the device so much different than the stock ICS or JB GS3 that my wife isn't thrilled. So, now my challenge is to find themes that best "look" like ICS or JB from Google.
Any suggestions???

Have been searching for a fix since the jb upgrade. This is it. Thnaks much!!!!
Only problem is that after shutting down wifi tether and when I try to restart wifi, phone says disabling Sprint Hotspot, but it never does. I had to reboot to be able to turn wife back on.
No go for me on stock JB rooted.

Same thing happened to me, had to hit allow at least 20 times. Either case, ended up not working for me on stock rooted.
I also have stock rooted JB. It DID work. I tried on ipod touch, Galaxy Tab and a laptop. They all worked fine. Only problem was not being able to turn Wifi back on after shutting down tether. Had to reboot.
I used Nexus CDMA profile, encryption OFF, Access control ON.
It DOES work.

I've tried your EXACT same settings and it doesn't work. I can see the network, but can't connect. Without fallback tether checked, I don't even see the network at all. This is my luck, for sure.
Works for me. I didn't change a thing. I opened the app after installing it and pressed the wifi button in the center of the screen. It worked and my buddy with his iPhone was able to connect and browse the web.
Hi guys, new to XDA here, just flashed JBSourcery 4.1 last night seems pretty good so far, just have some questions.
1. Is turning the camera vertically/horizontally causing a short lag 1-2seconds lag for you guys? It is for me. Although not an issue.
2.The WIFI tether toggle doesn't seem to do anything, and setup takes me to the stock tethering page.
3. I downloaded the android wifi tether app(the yellow one) via app store, their online beta versions, none of them seems to work. If I change SSID and password, it'll crash the app. If I just run the app without changing anything, it shows it's tethering, but it cuts off the internet on my phone too and doesn't actually tether anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
bump, help plz!

Hey guys! As the title says, I updated my phone from ICS to Jelly Bean, re-rooted it, and now I can't use WiFi Tether. I changed the device profile to "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) when I first got the app on ICS in order for it to work, and it doesn't work on that setting now. I've tried many other settings, and none of them work either. It says that tethering has started, the log doesn't show any errors, but when I try to connect with various devices, they just won't connect to it. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance!
I remember reading that tethering does not work on jb ROMs. Im pretty sure there is a jb ROM that does claim it works, just to lazy to find you a link

Look for the WiFi Tether-TrevE Mod.
I couldn't get tethering to work on Touchwiz JB even with TrevE mod, which is a shame because my phone is unlocked and on a carrier that does support tethering, yet it's still being blocked by Tmobile. Grr. Anyways, that's part of the reason I switched to AOKP. I highly recommend it.
WiFi Tether-TrevE Mod works for me on a stock JB rooted SGS2.
Haven't tried the Treve mod one yet, I'll give that a try and I'll post results, thanks!
Edit: So with that app, none of my devices see the network (my pc, my other phone, and my PS Vita).
I haven't tried USB tethering with it, because the only reason I tether with it is to play my Vita online when I'm not at home, so I have no use for USB tethering
