Use Captain_Throwback's guide to get S-Off.

Hey I was wondering if it would be possible to install clockworkmod recovery through rom manager on a temporary root I used androot on my friends slide and I was thinking if I used rom manager to install clockworkmod then tried to install a rooted rom strieght from rom manager that would give him full root

No it will not work. What happens is rom manager sets it to flash via the stock recovery on reboot, but it can't do that without the engineering bootloader, since the stock one doesn't allow self signed update packages such as clockwork to flash, while the engineering one does. You need to have full root to flash a recovery. And also, in case you didn't already know, the mt3gs is s-on so your recovery resets on reboot anyway, requiring you to flash a recovery every time you go to it. There's your answer haha

Yeah they really do. Good news though, we're about to get s-off. Alpharev is close.
I've permrooted with visioanary and installed rom manager. Then I've flashed clockwork recovery from rom manager but each time I go into recovery I just get the regular recover icon, not the clockwork recovery icon or anything. I've tried this with all 3 versions of clockwork recovery on rom manager. Still only get the un modifier recovery screen. Am I doing something wrong???

i didnt use it personally i took the long route
Just flash Clockwork again from ROM Manager. It seems to usually take more than one flash before it "sticks".
I've flashed it about 20 times now into recovery. None have worked

Sounds like you only have root and not S-OFF then. S-OFF is needed to flash custom recovery.

I had read that it's not behaving consistently/predictably which leads to issues. Even though I used Visionary when I was temp rooting (the first month I had the phone) when I went to permanent root I used the gfree method.
I tried to use fastboot to write a new recovery, but it didn't work. I tried to flash clockwork mod recovery using rom manager. Failed again. I am s-off and rooted. The only way to flash recoveries is using a P31IMG.zip file. Any ideas?

To flash with fastboot you need to unlock your bootloader via htcdev.com
You should be able to flash recovery from the ROM if you have superuser access in the ROM. Does recovery not change or does it take you to the bootloader screen when you try from ROM Manager?

Mine is taking me to the boot loader screen. I have forever s-off. Its unlocked. Tried to switch from scroll cwm recovery to twrp touch. Now I don't think I have a recovery. Should I reflash from computer with cwm or twrp?

OK I had s-off with root using rumrunners program until I decided to take the ota to .15 so I updated rumrunner and ran it several times it only pours once and says something about skunky rum then ends. I have s-off but no root what can I do?

RomRunner is to S-Off your device. You're already S-Off'd so you don't need it anymore. Don't run it.
Just flash SuperSU or SuperUser.

How? I can't seem to make it happen without a custom recovery or superuser permission

Woo hoo I was able to get root back using squabbis (spelling?) HTC one toolkit , first I flashed the superuser apk with his utility with success but still didn't have su permissions so I tried to flash a custom recovery without luck I was able to push my previous recovery file with the toolkit with success, now we can eat!

why take the OTA when we have the rom form of it available here? Just head over to santod040 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319
I have trouble with adb fastboot, I did download the Rom and can probably flash with flashify it's the firmware and radios that require fastboot that gives me fits so I thought ota would be easier

ah, okay. if you take the OTA it will wipe /system partition so freezing with TI wont help. if you are s-off you can ruu to the previous build HTC release with sense 5.5,
lock the bootloader and take the OTA but dont return to s-on. From there you will need to unlock the bootloader again, flash the insecure boot.img and then you'll be able to flash a recovery back onto the phone.. once you have the custom recovery, root can be restored with flashing the SU zip in recovery.
Sounds harder than using santods version, does anyone know if I need the firmware and radio updates or can I just flash the rom
