Yesterday, I got the Update 6.3.1 and because I have CMW installed, it blocked the update and I get the yellow triangle. Then I changed the recovery from CMW to TWRP and my kindle update successfully with stock bootloader and recovery back. And I can get in the system.
I want to root it again but on my Mac, I cannot use the KFU, so I use the method here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24129239).
After I issued these commands:
"
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/fbmode
adb shell /data/local/fbmode
adb reboot
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader <name of firefirefire image here>
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery <name of recovery image here>
"
the terminal returns something like "Could not get PIPE properties" and it stucks here. And later, I typed ctrl+c to stop the command and "fastboot oem idme bootmode 5002
fastboot reboot"
Then the screen is black and blank. I do not know what to do. I have tried fastboot but always get "< waiting for device >". Even I hit the power button for 1 minutes, the light is not on and the screen is still black. But it seems that the battery is stll a little bit hot, which may indicate that it is using the battery. What should I do now?
You could just keep holding the power button down for a long time maybe you will get it to boot but otherwise I believe you need a factory cable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550999
Thanks for your reply!

Thank you so much! I ordered a factory cable and it is on the way. No matter how long I push the power button, nothing happens, no power light, no backlight....When I charge it, the charger get hot, which may indicate it is being charged. Can a factory cable save it? I guess I may flash the wrong bootloader. I should unzip the u-boot-firefirefire-1.2.zip file and then flash it. But I flash it directly without unzipping. Such a silly mistake!
You don't unzip it just flash it in recovery but look at this post too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392693 there is a new bootloader here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632375 follow the instructions you most likely corrupted the bootloader partition flashing a new one will fix that but you need to get to a state where you can until then your in limbo with a draining battery factory cable is maybe your only rescue. I'm not familiar with Mac so I can't really help ya there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038 good luck

I use the command "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader <name of firefirefire image here>". Does the "<name of firefirefire image here>" is like "u-boot-firefirefire-1.2.zip" or "u-boot.bin"? Sorry, but I am quite confused.

When flash with fastboot you need to flash the u-boot.bin file
The zip file is for flashing by TWRP
they are used for two different method.

same problem , no solution l feel unlucky...
Alright, so my Kindle Fire is bricked, and was stuck at the boot screen (the default Kindle Fire loading screen) after attempting to root it with an outdated tutorial (didn't know this at the time, but the program is called SuperOneClick) then I made another foolish attempt to install TWRP (I THINK I did it to restore the Kindle back to the factory software/defaults but I'm not sure exactly what I was thinking as it was probably 2 weeks ago)... After doing a little more research, I made my way back here because the forums have been resourceful in the past concerning my Evo 4G... After that I found a very similar thread and decided to try my luck once again, had extreme problems trying to get my computer to recognize the Kindle (on both Windows 7 and Ubuntu), all of my settings were correct and are now correct to the best of my knowledge (adb/udev files included)... To this day I still have no luck getting my computer to recognize it, after reading through numerous tutorials/threads I've resorted to buying a "factory cable" because the battery died (while plugged in the wall/usb both it just flashed on and off) and I was told by another member here that it is the only way to bypass the dead battery... Yesterday I've received the "factory cable", but the Kindle still flashes on and off while it is plugged in via usb, and still doesn't show up in device manager, or in command prompt/terminal via adb devices/lsusb commands even after multiple restarts and adb kill-server, adb start-server have been applied... Can anybody help guide me through this??? My faith is running extremely dry at this point, and I'm willing to try just about anything to get this thing right, and learn a few things in the process!!!
Thanks in Advance,
CJ
Firekit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038
I will help you
And you have done sooo much!!! I've spent a total of at least 12 hours trying to figure this thing out, and getting the terminal to recognize it CORRECTLY is the furthest I've seen so far, even if it was for only one command, for a few seconds... My charging attempt has yet again failed miserably, BUT I have however bypassed the boot loop for about 30 seconds, still staying at the default Kindle Fire screen (tried a random tutorial to trick the Kindle into charging, it MIGHT have worked because it was only plugged in via usb for about 1 minute after this trick but instead of the orange light coming on the Kindle just stayed in the power off looking state)... Even with the boot loop bypassed though, fk did not seem to recognize the device so I'm even more lost than I was originally lol...
EDIT: I am positive the Kindle is receiving a charge, the charge light isn't on BUT it is charging!!! Regardless of the power state no command is working to recognize the device, including "adb devices", "lsusb", and "fastboot getvar product"... I guess that it's possible that one of my files have gone corrupt so I'll check them out again but other than that I'm stumped...
After many trial and error's, and with the amazing guidance of "Thepooch", we have finally unbricked the KF!!! Thank you for your time and patience, if it wasn't for you I would've probably given up by now
Great Job Pooch! You da' man. Glad you got it working!

Bricked Kindle Fire
I was having trouble using KFU. I wanted to install JellyBean 4.1 and after finding a post to perform some command lines the KFU finally found my KF. I installed the permanent root (i thought) and it rebooted the KF into fastboot it stated. Now it loads to a logo and stops. If I hold the power button (5-10 secs) it shuts off and that is the only thing I can do. It does not show up in my device manager so I feel I killed it. I know you guys have the answer and I apologize in advanced for being a newbie but I am desperate. It looked so easy in the YouTube videos but as always that is the famous last words...

Likely your stuck in fastboot shift+ right click on the tools folder in kfu select open command window here power your device off completely leave it unplugged type fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product when it says waiting for device plug in your powered off kindle it should then power on in fastboot mode if you get the response product: kindle then type fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000 it will say okay hopefully the type fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot it should then reboot in normal mode

Pooch thank you buddy very much!! I thought I owned a black brick. Now with that newbie mess out of the way could you help with what went wrong using KFU? It would not find my KF and only when I found something about typing in some command lines (similar to your fix) did KFU finally state the KF was online. I then chose option 2 used the permanent root function and viola a brick. I of course followed all the previous directions about loading drivers and making sure the ADB composite was in the device manager. Can you point me in the right direction?

If your main intent is to flash a ROM no need to root simply just allow installation from unknown sources under device in your kindle settings when you plug it it disconnect the USB transfer app. Then select option for twrp it should reboot then swipe open and stop USB app again this time send fff. Then use the boot loader to enter recovery when there select backup make a backup that you will later name noroot631 without spaces after you have created a backup reboot to os then use the USB app to place a ROM zip and a gapp zip on your SD card but do not place it inside of a folder this is considered the root of your sdcard then boot back into recovery . Go to install make sure you can locate the files you intend to flash then use the back button or home button in upper right to return to twrp main screen. At this point you have a safety net and a backup and you are getting familiar with the functions and learning how to navigate in twrp. Now for a flash if you are gonna flash modaco for the stock like adventure its not required to perform any wipes just simply flash and reboot. No gapps required either now you are rooted If you intend to flash a different flavor like cm7 cm9 or jelly bean it gets a bit more technical . After placing ROM and appropriate gapps on your SD card this time your gonna wipe and its very important you do so!!! First go and wipe factory reset then wipe cache then wipe dalvik here's the scary part wipe system do not reboot you have no system!! There is no need to wipe sdcard or external storage as it is called in the new twrp if you did you would have nothing to flash then hit the home button above right taking you back to the twrp main screen this time select install tap on the ROM zip swipe to install then home again install again this time select gapps swipe to install select reboot and system if prompted. It will reboot initial boot takes time I would say 5-8 mins longer and then you need to be a little alarmed If your greeted by an android for account setup your good congrats your rooted. If boot takes longer than 10 mins hold power button return to recovery restore your backup after the wipes I mentioned above try again later with new ROM and new gapps. Good luck as for kfu awhhh so many things broken for so many people near impossble to say why so many fail to root frankly operator error accounts for at least 80% of failures could be more like 90% . Common mistakes thinking you need to root to flash a ROM, bad drivers windows is terrrrrible, wrong cable, using a 3.0 USB port instead of 2.0, and general miscommunication between the device your computer and the utility. Whewwww all that said install twrp install fff if you can 100% verify that you have both and you know how to use both and move files to your SD card and have made a backup every time before you flash. Then flash Awaaaayyy!!! Hope I didnt miss anything oh and the usual disclaimer know what your doing or you shoot your eye out lol and of course I'm not responsible if you brick your kindle!! Good luck

PS as well after creating the huge safety net I explained above go ahead after your backup and select permanent root with superuser you have a backup and a bootloder that resets your boot mode have it but IMO that function is broken for too many people these days I don't recommend it because if our gonna flash a ROM all ROMs are rooted so what's the point?

So that's probably why I bricked my kindle was due to using a 3.0 port. I don't see how that would affect it though. Either way, I'm trying to charge up the battery on my kindle some since it drained itself to dead over night when I gave up in frustration and went to sleep. Then I'm going to try to unbrick using your methods mentions above and on the first page. If none work you'll be hearing from me again. lol
Well switching to the USB 2 and those commands through dos worked perfectly. Now if only it would download the twrp file. Just can't get a break with this stupid thing.

All this stuff is overwhemingly confusing for a non-computer speaking person..
I tried to follow the directions listed here:

but got really confused.
So I read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 and got even more confused.
I've rooted my Samsung Galaxy SII, but that used a simple one-click process. Trying to decipher the procedures for rooting a kindle fire is confusing to say the least.
Im begining to think that my stock Kindle is ok...
I'd just assume ship my KF off to someone to root it and install a custom ROM.. i've been reading these threads and forums for 3 days now and I just keep spinning myself in circles...

PS: I don't flashed GApps.
I tryied to enter in recovery mode but I get this:
I'm trying to but, but when I try to enter in recovery mode, i get this:
The system cannot find the drive specified.
Failed to Copy 'files\rcmode' to 'data/local/rcmode' : permission denied

The TWRP.img file that comes with KFU is not TWRP. If I had to guess, it probably uses wget to download the file, for legal reasons? Maybe? Who knows? Replacing it with one downloaded from the TWRP website would probably be the easiest route.

You're going to have to clarify that a bit. Stuck where? The Kindle Fire screen? If so what does it look like?
The situation changes.
I dunno ecxactly i did, but my KF begins to stuck in the KF logo Screen, not anymore on loop triangles and windows begin to see my device.
So I tried the fastboot commands, but choose wrong:
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
and now my KF stuck in triangles loop again and the windows can't se him anyomre.

Kindle Fire wrote on White and Orange.
But don't stuck there, after the logo disapear the triangles begin to turn in loop.
Try to pay attention. You are in normal bootmode, with a corrupt file system caused by CWM. When the device is "stuck" at the boot logo it is in fastboot. Fastboot mode is needed to install TWRP and a host of other activities. All of this you would understand if you had read the Kindle Fire for Beginners guide stickied at the top of the Kindle Fire General forum. You would have been directed to that page if you had read the sticky at the top of this forum, labeled "Before Asking For Troubleshooting Help...". With the exception of CWM acting up (arguably), these are the most basic of Kindle Fire problems and it is a waste of time for people to have to go over them constantly, and unecessarily.

As I said before, that put you in normal bootmode. And, as it is said in the KFFB, you can only issue adb commands in normal mode. Issue the adb command to change the bootmode to fastboot (4002) or recovery (5001).
[Edit:]Use your command line to change the bootmode. If your computer won't detect the device for adb, there is a problem with the device drivers (also covered in the KFFB) and need to be reinstalled.

Yeah, I undestand that. The problem is that I don't know what I exactly donne to KF acept my commands. The only thing i've donne for sure is that I change the USB port, but I tryed again with no sucess.
I am stuck also at the Boot Triangles in loop - I am having the exact same problems as you are Reinaque, so just know your not the only one.
I have tried all of the different tools, but I am still stuck in the CM10 boot logo. Also I am stuck on "Waiting for device". My kindle is recognized by my computer on 4000 boot mode through KFU.... It won't allow me to write any commands through ADB... Stuck with you!
EDIT
It will not for the life of it let me get into fastboot!
Well, I don't know what to do anymore.
I tryed with another PC, installed the correct drivers and try almost every fastboot command with no sucess, the KF still don't aceppt the commands.
I will try something with firekit.
Damm, I really think that I lost my new KF =[

Hello and good morning.
yet I have not seen so far such an image!
do you know what version of the software resides on your Kindle?
You might try to reach SR tool in the fast boat. If you're in a fastboot, with KF first aide under point 7 the Kindle to restoren and then new to put on.
But this is just a tip of a "Beginner 's" with KF first aide under 8.3.1 successfully several times the Kindle HD 8.9 has set back.

thanks for ur reply
but i did something i know its unusual but it did the trick and now it's working probably
i booted into fast boot then
erased bootloader , boot , recovery , system , userdata & cache
then restart the device again into fastboot
here comes the unusual part
i flashed
bootloader with kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
boot with the boot file provided from (KFHD system.img recovery tool) thread , only the boot file , not the recovery
system with the second system image (system2.img) file from (KFHD system.img recovery tool) version SRTv2.1
recovery with kfhd8-twrp-2.4.4.0-recovery.img
i hope this help somebody else
That is indeed a odd screen as much as I have messed with my kindle I have yet to see that one appear myself.
Same problem
I have a KF HD 8.9 with the same white screen as described by the OP. There was a guy on eBay selling 7 of them like that just a few days ago, and I bought one of them. I used KFHD_SRT_v2.1 and reflashed system, recovery, and boot with version 8.1.4. Then, I erased cache and user data and then rebooted.
I saw the Kindle Fire logo, and then the same white screen came up again. I have never seen a Kindle with this problem and am at a loss as to where to go from here. The OP seems to have fixed his Kindle with the same problem but his description of the fix is a little unclear so I am reluctant to try it. The only thing he seemed to do differently was to reflash the bootloader. Maybe that's the key?
It must have been on some funky bootmode because I tried resetting the bootmode to 4000 and it took care of the problem.

With the Kindle in Fastboot mode go to a CMD prompt and send the following command
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
I tried this first, before anything else on another Kindle that was stuck in "developer mode" and it rebooted into OS v8.1.2. But it would not connect to my pc in usb file transfer mode. After flashing v8.1.4 I was able to usb file transfer the latest OS and run the update. So, I would recommend flashing 8.1.4 and then reset the bootmode.
Hope this helps...
I feel silly and ashamed asking for help, but i f***ed up big time.
For some stupid reason I wiped my kindle and was left with only twrp. So no worries I thought Ill just push a rom back onto the sdcard via adb and all everything is fine...
So I though... win xp wont recognise the kindle any more. Well it does as amazon kindle 2 but not as adb device.
So I tried all this again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283230
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37733595&postcount=361
and a little bit of this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117&highlight=root
and several other crazy things I read on XDA. Nothing realy helped.
So I thought. Hey! Why not try fastboot.... So I did. What a noobish thing to do...
Looking around I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2117224
screw adb in twrp, we'll use twrp's terminal emulator to go to fastboot with the command idme bootmode 4
In twrp, go to advanced. then go to terminal command. then press the select folder button.
type idme bootmode 4
reboot and you're in fastboot.
That is what I did.
Funny enough. Now ADB Drivers work perfectly and recognise Kindle as ADB device in the device manager.
Sadly though, when I try to connect through ADB or Fastboot in CMD no device is being detected.
I know you guys have better things to do than help noobsters to clean their mess up they have caused. However I would be dead gratefull if one of you mighty tech gurus could help me out on this one.
What can I do to get this fixed?
Thank you ever so much in advance!

I'm in a similar situation. TWRP will not mount anything, If i try to wipe cashe, ect it says failed. If i try adb push it does not work. At this point I would be fine with just going back to stock. Hopefully someone can find a solution to our problem.

What is the exact command you are running? Also uninstall any kindle drivers that are installed and let it reinstall the device, I always have to do that when I switch from adb recovery to fastboot, sometimes it will be part of a component device you have to uninstall, but in that case you have to check the components vid so you don't uninstall something else by accident. All fastboot commands should be prefixed with ”-I 0x1949” so for ex: fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Hope this helps.

product otter2-prod-04
finished. total time: 0.016s
does this mean, that fastboot is actually working and i get a connection to the device?

ok i get in and out of fastboot fine. i looked through the commands here for fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23747804
so far so good.
However whenever i flash something onto the kindle in cannot find it. also when i am in twrp it tell me unable to mount data.
fastboot wont let me format the userdata. did i break the filesystem? this must have been done by twrp when accidently formatting it... right?

anychance anyone out there could give me a hand and get this fixed? I am
I thought 2.7 hadn't been release for kf2. You sure you flashed the right version for your device? If it is a kf2 then flash this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218868
Once you flash it from fastboot, recovery should work again.

kindle fire first aid has them. But it downloads them off the net last i heard so you wont find the images directly in there unless i am mistaken.
