$229. Student Rate, you have to all and ask for it
That's actually the Value Plan price as far as I can tell. You pay $229 down, $20/month for 20 months to pay off the total $630 retail cost. With the Value Plan, it comes out to about the same monthly price, so it's worth it. However, watch out because you pay tax on the full retail price of $630.
just saw that walmart has it for 199, not sure which plan its associated with thou
I used my parents old plan and gave up the 50 dollar rebate. I guess I was able to
to upgrade without a plan that lets you upgrade

Walnart has the regular 2 year commitment plans and 200$ is really good plus you only pay the tax on the 200 not the 600$ of the phone, really good deal, but I would go with the value plan Imo is good specially since after your done paying your bill goes down $20

I did this at Costco, and after calculating it out, it is cheaper than the Monthly4G + Off Contract price to say nothing about the other plans:
Costco - $389.99 for the phone w/ Value Plan (no monthly installments)
For instance, I'm paying $74.99 for unlimited talk + text + 5gb data + hotspot on a $389.99 + tax phone.
Compare that over 2 years to the equivalent classic plan from Wal Mart ($198.00 + $94.99/mo) and it's a savings of over $200. Or the equivalent off contract + monthly4G plan ($629.99 + $70-$85/mo). Or even the regular value plan from T-Mobile ($229.99 + $20/mo for 20 months + $74.99/mo).

Love how he says "ONLY" $389. Man. What has this world come to? I remember when phones were free, the battery lasted for 5 days, and customer service actually did something when someone said, "hey, there's a problem here".
On another note, how much success have people been having getting the phone through Wal-Mart? Almost glad my order got screwed because now I can get it at Wal-Mart right across from my closest TMO store(who are a bunch of idiots by the way) and save a good amount of money and not have to deal with getting screwed on the rebate! Are people getting the $198 renewing through them? Or is it only for new accounts? Not that the people at Wally World have half a clue what's going on but... just curious. Since I had some hassle and I AM getting my upgrade status restored(supposedly), I wonder if they are going to give me problems since my contract was technically already renewed? Screw it, they're probably clueless anyway lol.

Yep. $74.99 for the value plan (before corporate discounts I intend to apply ) per month is the only fee I have. No activation fee either from Costco. Needless to say, I'm a happy camper

"Only" $389 is no big deal for a smart phone IMO when you consider the cost over the lifetime. Consider I'm getting unlimited talk + text + 5gb data + hotspot for $74.99/month. Then consider that the Monthly4G monthly plan from T-Mobile for all that is $70/month without the hotspot, $85/month with hotspot - and it would only work with a off contract GS3 for $629.99, and I'd say $389 is quite the deal.
Heck, even if in a year I cancelled my contract and paid the $200 ETF, I'd still end up ahead of the Monthly4G plan.
I was set to buy the phone off contract, but the price made too much sense and was too good to let up

Really?? Where you at? I'm in Northern Cali.
I hope so, I've been patiently waiting for them to stock up.
Their $200 price tag is a lot better than the initial $329.
Besides when I upgraded to the SGSII somehow they messed up and I kept my upgrade so I literally got the phone for $200.
Hoping for the same results. Lol.
Either way, I hope Monday is the day.

Was previously with Sprint and was at costco last week and saw they had the 16gb s3. Went there again yesterday and they still had them so I switched. Here is my total cost.
Phone $389
Value plan $64.99 (500 min, text, 5gb data) x 2 years = $1559.76
$389 + $1559.76 = $1948.76
If I had gone with classic
Phone $249
Classic plan $84.99 (500 min, text, 5gb data) x 2 years = $2039.76
$249 + $2039.76 = $2288.76
(classic) $2288.76 - (value) $1948.76 = $340
Going with the value plan I'm saving $340 total after 2 yrs vs classic
So basically I got the phone for $49 ($389-$340 saving going to value plan)
Had I gone with classic then (phone) $249 + $340 (extra I have to pay) = $589
Going classic you save now but after 2 years you end up paying a lot more!
**I didnt factor in taxes since tax varies but you get the point.

Hey Everyone,
I currently have a Galaxy Nexus pre-ordered on Bell on a three year contract ($185 and $50/month for 500mb of data + 150 minutes). I found out that Mobilicity is also a GSM network that will work with the Galaxy Nexus and the price per month is only $17.50/month (for unlimited data, unlimited local calling and caller ID!) but the only downside is that many people report that the network drops often and there is no HSPA+ speeds. I know this may seem like a REALLY stupid question to ask, but do you guys think I should cancel the order, and then re-order the Galaxy Nexus unlocked for $800? (Taxes + cancellation fee). I mean with the network not supporting HSPA+ and the network itself not being supported in some areas in Canada (although I don't travel much and according to the coverage map I'm fully supported), is it really worth it from switching from my current order with Bell on a 3 year contract to Mobilicity?
Note: I realize its a fairly stupid question, but I haven't been thinking straight for the past few days and your comments will be extremely appreciated.
I go through 500MB of data in a week. That plan would never work for me. I have a T-Moble/Wal-Mart $30/month unlimited data (5GB at H+), unlimited text, 100 talk mins (I never talk on the phone) and bought an unlocked GN for $850. The closest plan would cost me $99/month with Verizon.
I don't get why people can't realize that buying a good phone and then getting a cheap plan is cheaper in the long run.

I pay $60 after taxes and fees per month on Tmobile USA with 1000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 5GB of H+ speeds. I got the Galaxy S II for $149 with a 2 year contract. Over 2 years I will pay a total of about $1400 after all taxes and fees, including the price of the phone. Over 2 years you will pay about $1,600 including the price of your phone... Who's saving money?

Huh?
$30 x 24mo + $850 phone = $1570
$60 x 24mo + $150 phone = $1590
And he overpaid for the phone considering most are getting it for around ~$700 shipped. So for most in his situation it'd be more like ~$1420 for 2 years + phone. And you got a good deal on your SGSII, as T-mo advertises it for $229. So we can say most people's annual cost in your situation is ~$1670.
So if we go with real-world math its ~$1420 vs. ~$1670....
Not to mention that you're on a contract, and he isn't. Some people don't like being in a contract and that's worth it for them.
Yea I'm a heavy data user.... so I thought. But looking at several past invoices I realized I only use about 200 minutes and about 1.5-2gb a month data. I utilize wifi at work, work, and hotels when I can.
I pay $60 a month on T-Mobile for 1000 minutes and 5gb cap.
Buying the phone outright and using the Nexus on a cheap plan (Simple Mobile or Walmart special) is the way to go.
I also have a Verizon blackberry through work. I'm ditching my personal line, buying the Nexus on a new contract price on the corporate account and saving my money.
500mb of data would kill me... especially if there are overages and penalties.

Correct 30x24+850=1570, which would work if there were no taxes and fees. And I did mine wrong I was going off of the time until I can upgrade again, my bad.

Look at my post again for a better breakdown... And even if he's paying 10% sales tax on his monthly purchases (there's no carrier fees involved with a pre-pay plan), that's only another $72 over 2 years.

pinky up i need that plan!!
The point I'm trying to make is that there is no savings in buying a phone outright and going on an off contract plan (when comparing apples to apples with the plans). The only difference is one has a contract and one doesn't. Which I don't plan on leaving Tmobile anytime soon, or ever, because everyone else is more expensive.

Well there is considering that this phone isn't offered on T-mobile... If you're going to be buying a phone full price to get one not available on the carrier, then you're saving money by going pre-pay or some form of off-contract service. And like I said, people see value in being off contract.
I wasn't trying to say you're doing the wrong thing (everyone makes their own choice for service that works for them), but I have to point out blatant math errors when you're trying to prove your point. He really is spending less money over 2 years.

I'm not saying anyone is doing anything wrong by going that route either, it's all personal preference. I just didn't like the statement "I don't get why people don't realize" when it's not true.
And your comparison isn't even valid. I'm pretty sure neither of us live in fake worlds and I paid $149 for my phone and he paid $850 for his. Even if they come out to be the same price over 2 years, I'm getting 10x the minutes, and don't have to fork over $600+ at one shot. Like I said, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the other plans whatsoever, I just don't want people saying that everyone else is stupid for not going that route, when it's all personal preference.

I simply covered the fact that most people are buying their Nexus' for ~$700, and T-mobile advertises the SGSII for $229.
That aside, I think his statement still holds strong. You've obviously crunched the numbers but most don't. Most people don't realize that there are fantastic off contract or pre-pay options that can save them $100's per year. Especially if they're coming from Verizon or AT&T, we're talking about moving from ~$100 per month to ~$30.
Thanks so much for the replies guys I think what I'll be doing is buying it on a three year contract, buying another phone unlocked after a year or so when it becomes TRULY obsoleted in terms of software + hardware and using the sim on that. (I also had a question: would the galaxy nexus be considered "unlocked" after I remove the sim? Or is it still locked to the carrier? Also, if it is locked to the carrier, could I just get it unlocked from an external source?) Also, I have 14 days to return the phone (as long as I don't use 15 minutes or 1.5 mb) Finally, I'm not on a two year contract, but a 3 year one. The best plan I could get is $70/month and I get 6GB of data + 200 minutes. I see how I'm losing money, but I'm in Canada and the plans here are MUCH worse than in the US.

Hopefully it will be unlocked from Bell. The Nexus S was, and some people have reported Bell reps saying the Galaxy Nexus will be as well.
You should ask Bell for 6 GB though. I talked to a rep and told him that Rogers was offering me 6 GB for the 500 MB price (unadvertised, but it was all over mobile sites a week or two ago), and asked if Bell could do the same for me if I was signing a 3-year contract. He said they would. It's common for Bell and Rogers to offer the 6 GB at times... ask for it, and if you're signing a 3-year contract you might just get it. Why have only 500 MB if you can get 6 GB for the same price?
Wait, what? A THREE YEAR CONTRACT? I thought 24 months was hard enough!

It's the unfortunate standard for Canada. The two-year contract price for the GN is $599.99. That's F***ing ridiculous. This is why I decided to let my current contract run out in 15 months and not sign another. It's unlocked phones and the negotiating ability of switching for me now.
I'm also hoping the GN is carrier unlocked, as it should be, from Bell. Since I'm buying it outright anyways, I'll just drop my Telus SIM in and be a happy camper. Otherwise I have to wait until January when Telus and Rogers release it.

I almost getting this, since I've called T-mobile Loyalty Department with no luck, they wont give me any more discount or credit, I think it's because Im eligible for phone upgrade, but my account still on contract until next year.
My current data plan is $20 per month (Im not sure what's the cap throttle limit, since I never use that much anyway), but with Costco, they forced me to choose new data plan for $35 Premium 5GB, that what makes me thinking, I got the phone $100 cheaper but monthly data plan would be more expensive

Exactly what I was just thinking, just got mine maybe 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately I can't login to order or check it out, that portion of their site has been down all day! Is this a repeat of the nexus 4 debacle? Are all of ya'll crashing their servers?
Anyway, late last night/early this AM, I was logged in, and my upgrades available weren't showing the cheap/free prices. I was still showing the GSIII for $150. I wonder if this is due to my account, it's a loyalty unlimited family plan they offered us a few years ago. Note that all lines on the account are eligible for upgrades (I'm actually still using my G1 as my daily driver!), so what gives? Is this for new accounts only? Lame. Guess I better call support and find out, but I'm kinda pissed if it's for new accounts only. I was going to add a line, and get 3 free GSIII's, presently a $450 option for me, even with plan renewal. So much for free, unless anybody knows something I'm missing? It says it's a web only deal, so I should be able to upgrade online, right?
can't log in wtf is that about.
I tried online and couldn't got through so visited store, they do have the phone but it costs changing the unlimited plan which for individual is ~$95/pm in classic plan and ~$85/pm in the value plan. Untill you receive the rebate, you pay the offered price and then you can change the plan.
I'm paying $65 with unlimited web (Even More) on myTouch 4g, and $20-30 a month seems too much to me.
I'll wait on Black Friday to see if I get something chipper somewhere ...
Be forewarned. I just got back from my local T-Mobile store. Yesterday and all month I was told I was eligible for early upgrade. And today I am not. I was told yesterday to wait until today to upgrade because the phone would be free. This sucks. They are trying to get it corrected. Maybe it has to do with thier site being down. I hope so. Otherwise I am going to take my 10 years of loyalty and go elsewhere when my contract is done.

I went to the Tmo store today and walked out with my new S III. I have a family plan with 5 lines. My line was up for renewal. I had to switch to the value plans (I was still using a My Faves plan) but ended up saving quite a bit on my monthly bill.
This deal is not Web only - the deal wouldn't show up for me, either when I tried to upgrade on the 'net.
If you have a line up for renewal, you can get one of the free phones (you do have to pay full price up front and rebate comes in the mail)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Well, just as a warning for everyone, it is most certainly not free, even with the rebate. It will still cost at least $200 in the end. Basically, you pay $200, and you'll eventually get the rebate back for it. However, they're adding an extra $20 per month for the first 20 months to cover the discount... which will end up costing $200.
So, yeah... I'm not sure if anyone else had that same issue, but that's what the salespeople at my local T-Mobile store did to me. I needed the upgrade anyways, as my old HTC G2 is starting to show its age, but this is silly, just charge me $200 and be done with it, calling it free and still shelling out $200 in the end is not what was advertised.
Costco also has a promotion today and tomorrow with $150 MIR (required Unlimited Talk/Text Classic plan + Unlimited 4G data plan)
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/11/costco-gets-in-on-the-two-day-samsung-sale-fun/
I'm eligible for upgrade and having Unlimited Talk/Text Classic plan + Unlimited 4G data plan. I walked into a T-mobile store today and they gave me the price $299.99 for the phone (with $300 MIR) + $37.50 tax + $18 Activation fee = $355.49
Compare to what Costco offers:
$179.99 (with $150 MIR) + 11.25 tax + $0.00 activation free + free shipping + free GS3 accessory = $191.24
I think i'll go with Costco. lower upfront + cheaper after the rebate
If you have corporate or student discount options - check on the advantage pricing - I got $175 + $50 MIR for each of my GS3s (ordered three - signed up for new plan).
At the time costco had it for $149.99 each online. Note I ordered mine 2 weeks ago.

Pretty sure the $20 a month is a value plan thing, doesn't apply to you if you're on a classic plan.. I'm almost positive..

Yes, you'll end up paying addistional $20 for 20x - thats $400!!! And they said its a value plan they gave me the 69.99 unlimited everything which is the cheapest plan! Im returning this tomorrow, its not worth it. I hope I can get all my money back, coz accdg to the gs3 box, if returned they charge you 50 $ re stocking fee!
Heres my receipt: (remove *)

Why are they charging you so much for the phone? Are you not not eligible for a upgrade at this time?
The GS3 is suppose to be $299.99 minus $300 rebate with a classic plan or
$199 minus $200 rebate with a unlimited value plan.

the Value plan isn't subsidized and has 20 payments of $20 (or $15 on some cheaper phones) applied to your bill to pay for the device.
the Classic plan is subsidized, but costs around $20 more... so at > 20 months, the Value Plan is cheaper by $20/mo.
Confused about which is the better value. Tmobile has the phone for$150 no contract plus$20 a month but Walmart has it for 199 on a new 2yr. Contract... Am i missing something here but wouldn't it be better to just buy it from Walmart They offer the same Plans right?

I would go with Tmo. With Walmart your locked in whether you pay the phone off early or not. There would be a fee for early cancellation. With Tmo all your obligated to do is pay the phone itself off. After that, you could easily cancel your service, request unlock pin and switch to any other carrier. I've got Tmo with 500mb and only pay $56 a month. For $10 more you could have unlimited data(2gb).
Think Un-Plan
I think it depends.
Do you foresee any reason that you may or may not be looking to switch providers or drop cell phone service all together in the next 2 years?
I've seen many people run the numbers but in my opinion and my use case the new "uncarrier" plan doesn't work out better for me.
If I would have switched my 2 lines over my bill would have gone up $20 a month. Yes I would have gained unlimited talk, and a bit more data, but I have never gone over my minutes and I've only used more than my data allotment 1 time. So for me spending $20 more a month is not acceptable, plus I am fairly happy with Tmobile and do not plan on switching anytime in the next 2 years, and my employer requires me to have a phone and pays for my line. For these reasons I opted to just renew my contact at walmart and get the 199 S4 and my wife the 149 HTC one.
Goodluck with your decision

Definitely walmart. Tmo strategy is based on fake advertising just to make you pay more. Most people that are with tmobile have chosen it because is cheaper than the other carriers meaning they don't have where else to go so the possibility of ditching tmo in 2 years is very low. With walmart you only pay 199 + data cost while with tmo thing you spend $450 extra on the device just because you think some day you might ditch tmo. And truth is that theirs is not a real no contract thing yet because of course you are tied to paying the phone in full for the next 2 years.

you're wrong its cheaper and better to go with tmobile. with the 2 year contract u are locked and u get the phone for 199 bc the tmobile pays samsung the difference while locking u in to repay for the phone. but when u are in the contract you continue to pay for the phone ontop of your plan meanwhile with the no contract deal you only pay your phone and a separate plan, so when u pay off the phone ur bill drops but if u were in a contract u continue paying the same high bill.

Depends on what plan you have. I never go over 1000 minutes so the unlimited talk tmo has i can care less. Also most of the time i am on wifi so no need for 5gb or unlimited data. For me it is better through walmart because i know i won't ditch tmo in the near future and i have no use of the extra minutes or data i would get by going the "no contract" way.
Edit: how does tmo lock me in to repay for the phone? I only pay 199 and then pay for its services only instead of paying 150 then pay for phone + services every month.

the reason they put you in contracts is because you pay off the phone. TMO gives it to you for 199 right? the difference from 650+ - 199 is given to Samsung by TMO. Then while you are in contract, you are paying for your services but also a part is going towards tmo to earn the money back it gave to samsung. and since you are in contract, you eventually pay off the phone and even more since you are locked in. if you go the uncarrier method, you pay off the phone and then only pay services.

Still, the total price for the device is $579. If they charge a bigger deposit then you either pay less than $20 per month or you pay $20 a month for fewer months. I'm not sure how they do it but either way you're only paying $579 plus applicable taxes in total.

I know the total price ia 579 I know that I bought a s4 on post paid I make eip payments, I was just quoting. .. that if its the amount of money that is needed down thats the concern, be aware that at worst its 329 down as the highest amount possible but yea with the 12.50 extra on top of bill theres also a possibility of a down payment needed for the line itself also, so if u ad the line deposit and the phone deposit it easily adds up well past 99$
So I was trying to help the OP know that its very possible without grade a/b credit plan to pay 200-500 for both deposits combined. ... before u even walk away with the phone on a new postpaid line...thus making the whole experience of the advertising 99 down a a complete let down once u actually get there and deal with it

and processor and screen and phones shape :good:
something else to consider:
Costco and a few other vendors are the last to support subsidized upgrades on t-mobile. Noone knows how long this will remain true. Which phone would you rather hold on to if you decide to stick with t-mobile, but never again have a low-cost upgrade available?
I've had a tmo family plan for over 10 years (started with omnipoint) and had spaced my upgrades out so every 6 months there was a new phone in the mix. With the rotation, I was comfortable getting last year's hot handset for free instead of plunking for the new models. This year I'm upgrading them all to the latest and greatest as soon as they're qualified.
And to the OP: Costco $150 plus some accessories is the best deal i've been able to fine since the S4 launch. There may be some better deals come Independence Day,

How is Costco a deal? They are charging $149.99 for the phone, but they then charge you $90.00 a month instead of T-Mobile charging you $70.00 a month for the 2 years of the Costco contract.
$20.00 X 24 = $480.00
$480 + $149.99 = $629.99
This is the SAME as buying it from T-Mobile, but you are stuck with a 2 year contract from Costco.
They also through in a cheap case that you can get on Amazon for $4 or $5.00
Am I missing something here? Costco does NOT look like a good deal at all!
If I wasn't clear above, T-Mobile charges $70.00 a month for unlimited everything. Costco charges you $90.00 for the same plan.

Costco also honors your legacy plans which are no longer offered, which T-mobile will let you keep but still not subsidize your phone. Here's my bill:
$80 - 2000 (we never go over, full unlimited available for $100) minutes and text, family plan, 2 lines
$10 - extra 2 lines @ $5
$80 - 4 unlimited data plans @ $20
$10 - family discounted international rates (not transferable to new plans, only available as a per line add-on)

$180 / month + taxes and international calls - corporate discounts
+$600 + taxes - 4 S4s @ $150
