[Q] No removable battery? - HTC One X

I have a Samsung Captive right now and I am considering upgrading to a One X. I am very worried, though, about not having a removable battery as I do alot of flashing/overclocking and often freeze my phone. The only way I can restart is to take out the battery. I am curious to see whether this is a big issue for people, espesially people who like to overclock.
Also samsung has a program called odin that lets me restore my phone to stock firmware if I brick it. Is there a similar program for htc phones?

No need to worry. If you lock it up HTC have built in a hard reset function. Just hold the power button down. After about 5 seconds the key backlights flash then the phone is restarted. Got me out of a few lock ups it has.

How about an app to flash it back in case of serious emergency such as a boot loop?

HTC has RUUs for every firmware release for their phones. These are exe files that only work on Windows (damn). You just have to connect your phone via USB, and run the file as administrator. It'll restore the phone to stock firmware and locked bootloader (or you may have to lock the bootloader manually in fastboot before running it, don't know).

Thanks for all the info. I will still most likely get a galaxy s3 but this has definitely made the decision a little more even.

[Q] Broken Bootloader

Hi, I think my phone just broke.
It's a HTC Desire Z.
Today I tried flshing a new radio image, but it didn't work , got the write failed message, from within phone os (virtuous froyo 1.0.2)
Got hboot 0.85.xxxx.
This was at work and since I had no compatible USB cable I thought I'd wait until I got home.
Well at home i selected boot to bootloader from holding the power button, the phone shutdown and that's it.
Now only lifesigns are the orange charge led.
When pulling the battery and inserting it, connectiong the usb cable the light comes on, pulling the cable it turns of.
When cable connected and pressing vol down + power, nothing happens, pulling the cable leaves the charge light still on.
Trying vol down + power without the cable does aboslutely nothing.
Do, does anyone have any clue what I can do ?
The phone worked flawlessly until the reboot point.
Iknow the first desire had some special key combination to get into some blue-led mode, haven't found anything on this so far.
it does not show up in devices in computer management either.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. I found the vol up + power it shows up as Qualomm CDMA Technologies MSM in device management.

There must be a way to recover this type of brick, to dd a new hboot image.
Lets face it, the hboot image was flashed to a brand new HW at some point, the Q will therefor be, how do they do it, and how can we all do it?
Research continues.....
Ok, does anyone know how to fix a broken bootloader on the Desire Z ?
I figured out that the bootloader is broken, this because I mixed up radio and hboot image yesterday and tried to write the radio image to hboot partition, this is why I got a message telling me write error because of space issues.
Now I have my old Desire Bravo, wich is working better than all desire bravos here at work
But I want my Z back in bizniz.

have you got insurance??
u could drop it down the stairs at your workplace... claim on insurance... make sure its truely broke though...
just a stupid thought
if warrenty wont replace then insurance most probabally will... if its so broken you cant even turn it on to get the led. lol
either way mate i really hope you get it sorted soon best of luck!
You have brick your phone. bootloader is broken no fix for it. Sorry.
If you do not have warranty call htc Norway and say that you try to update your Software WITH HTC SYNC. They are very customer friendly there.

I've been talking to mcare and deltaservice, they seems to be unable to help me since the bootloader is broken, I know this issue can be worked out with JTAG on the old desire, just have to wait for JTAG update on the Z, then I'll be up and running again, btw, I'm getting a new phone AND got to keep the old one
Ohhh, yeah.
BOYAAAAHHH!
I still wonder what the volume up + power key combo is good for.
When the phone is started in this mode, it shows, as mentioned earlier, as a Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM device in device manager on my puter, diagnostics mode ? possible way to get write access to internal memory, like say.... /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 so we can repair the bootloader without any advanced tear down of the phone and fancy equipment ?
If ANYONE have a clue on this feel free to share it with everyone else that has a Desire z/Vision. Thank you.
btw, took some high res pics here:

[Q] Can't boot HTC Wildfire S

A friend of mine, gave me today an HTC Wildfire S, who found laying in the street. Problem is that i can't boot it, even in bootloader (Vol Down + Power) if i try to boot into bootloader only a tiny red light appears on one sensor, and if i try to boot into android, it appears to boot but nothing appears on the screen.
Any Advice?
Is it detected when connected to a PC?

I thought about a lot of things as your post didn't have a lot of info:
1- you aren't aware of battery level, leave it for an hour or two connected to the computer to recharge the battery.
2- do you have hTC Sync 3.0 ? You have to have it so the computer can recognize the phone.
3- putting it to the bootloader mode and nothing appearing on the screen makes me a bit worried.
Let us know how things will go !!!

1 - Full Charged, at least charging light now is green (was orange before, like in other HTC's)
2 - Yes, i also have ADB drivers installed, but nothing appears with cmd "adb devices"
3 - I don't know if is rooted, or has USB debugging on.
Best thing to do is use xtc clip, create gold card etc and flash the Rom.

I've found the problem. Looks like screen backlight is working fine, but no info is coming to it. I know because when i press touch buttons they vibrate, and vol buttons sounds when i press. So, do you know where can i get a cheap LCD screen replacement in EU?
Thx in advance
How about trying to find out who is its real owner and return it to him or her?
Can you feel confortable using something you know it is not yours?

tottaly agreed. just think when you lost yourself your HH..
It would be a nice idea, but my friend found it without SIM or microSD and can't get it work, so if you have any idea about how to find the owner, I'm listening.

After getting an LCD replacement and booting it up properly you could check the accounts & sync settings to see the Google account they used with the phone. That way you can maybe contact them. Contacts are also saved on phone memory, so you could have a look there.
If you did find the owner then you could charge him a little extra for finding and repairing it.
need the solution
I have the exact same problem with my HTC Wildfire S.
So what did you do with that phone?

[Q] Lock screen keeps re-appearing!

Hi all
My lock screen is going crazy. Every time I lock the phone, and the screen goes off, it immediately comes back on again - just like I've pressed the power button. It's very odd. The phone actually reboots if I press the power button a couple of times.
Any suggestions? I've even reinstalled the rom bit it's still happening.
I've checked the timeout and it's set to 30 seconds. Also there are no apps running and no animated wallpaper. There is no issue with the power button - the phone works fine apart from this.
I'm running CM7 on my HTC Desire. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jonny

Yes still happens. ALso installed a new rom from scratch. Still happens!
Very bizarre. Incidentally my down-volume button on the rocker no longer works. And reboots are more frequent, mostly when the phone has been locked for a few seconds and I press the power button...
I've screwed about with it a lot over the year so I think I'd like to unroot and install stock HTC rom again. I'd like to give it to my Dad when I get my galaxy nexus anyway.
Are there any instructions/steps available detailing how to unroot and put back to the factory rom?
Thanks again for all your help.
Jonny
I dont think that will fix it. Sounds like a hardware issue on the motherboard. Perhaps water damage...
But yes, search for RUU to return to stock. You can use the GB 2.3.3 one from HTCDev.com
Having read your first post I thought it was the accelometer that might be faulty, but now I'm not sure. As the previous user said it may be water damage.
To remove root, just install the latest official RUU. Normally found in the Android Dev Forums

[Q] T-Mobile update bricked my phone?

This morning I woke up to a message saying there was a software update from T-Mo for my T-Mo SGS2. I made a backup and then let it start, just to see. Now the phone is off and I cannot turn it back on, either to Recovery Mode or just to power on! I even plugged in the USB to my comp, still nothing. Not sure what to do? Am I bricked? I was running Juggernaut 3.7 (rooted). I thought if it wasnt a compatible update then I'd just flash the backup. but now I cant even do that. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I'm having the similar troubles.
Mine's still works, but everytime i attempt to update it goes back to CM manager screen, and i don't know how to proceed past that. So curious to find out what the update is all about. (I am on factory rom + rooted only).
Have you tried odin back to stock?
If it turns on its might be soft bricked.

Will it go into download mode? If not then it's bricked. If it will then use odin to push one of the stock ROM's and go from there.
I won't take up screen space describing how to get into download mode... a google or forum search will result in you finding those directions.
Hope you can fix it... Otherwise call TMobile and they'll send you a replacement.
I cant even get the phone to turn on to go to any mode. I cant get the computer to recognize that there is even a device. When I hold the power button the phone doesnt even vibrate. I cant upload ODIN to the phone to set back to stock. I feel liike Ive tried everything:
Holding each of the volume buttons individually + power
Holding both volume + power
Power only.
Remove and replace battery + Above
Remove battery completely + steps above.
Im lost. Probably SOL.
Plug a USB into your computer, hold volume up and down at the same time then plug USB into your phone while holding volume buttons and see if in enters download mode.

Just tried. still nothing. the computer makes the noise like it knows something was plugged in, but nothing happens on my phone screen and a pop up comes up and says device not recognized, one of the devices connected to this compute has malfunctioned, etc.
I think this might be terminal. FML.
Might need to redownload the device drivers them try again.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yeah. Still no dice. I re-installed device drivers twice. on two computers. Still cant get any response from the Phone. I've rooted and Rom'd 7 different phones from all the major manufacturers. This is the first one I have bricked.
That sucks. Might have to call warrenty on it.

Yeah it does. I appreciate everyone's help here though.

I came across this in the sgs4g forum and it seems they offer a brick fix. I am not sure of the sites reputation or anything about it but it may be worth looking into.

[Q] Security: Lock power-off and recoverymode possible?

I realize it is dangerous, but is there a way to lock power-off and/or getting into recoverymode with a lockpattern? Since all other security measures (like gps-tracking) won't matter if a thief can just power-off your phone or boot into recovery en just change the rom or things like that.
Any ideas are more than welcome
Nevermind what I posted was dangerous...
Not advisable to erase recovery as your phone goes into recovery when you power off.
Meaning if you erase recovery then power off your phone. Its likely it won't turn on again.
Think of all the bricked xls by flashing our recovery by mistake

I probably mean a bootloader lock then. That you have to unlock your phone before being able to put it into fastbootmode.
I don't think many thefs will know about what a boatloader, they probably have a blackberry anyway
Back to topic could you not resign the power button for screen on/ off but not to power down?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
LC said that the power button functions are hard coded to the tegra chip and impossible to modify.

Well, the One X is still a pretty expensive phone. "Professional" thiefs will definitely know what they are steeling and how to handle it (or know someone who does). If people steel my phone, I'd like it to be completely useless to them, but still usable to me if I get my phone back of course. It sounds spectacular though, but I'm not looking for an app that lets the battery explode after 3 fail-attempts or something
