Radio for high speed Tmo data GSM?...In Arizona - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am new to this forum. I'm in Arizona and on Tmo. Have the GSM gnex. My SGS2 seems faster on data and was looking to obtain the same from my gnex. What radio can I flash to try out? Link if possible.
Thank you

While I currently use AT&T I have done quite a bit of testing in the East Valley with a TMO 4G SIM in my Galaxy Nexus. I'm looking to switch as soon as my contract is up. What kind of speeds are you getting? I've seen up to 8Mbps in Tempe but typically saw 1-6Mbps in the Valley.
I tested with UGLC1 and XXLA2 radio with similar results.
I case anyone is interested AT&T averages 800kbps-5Mbps in the East Valley. AT&T service absolutely sucked last night at the Tempe Town Lake Fireworks show. There were several thousand people there though :silly:

The SGII can access T-Mobile's 42 Mbps network while the GNex can only access at 21 Mbps.

I have yet to see a phone hit 21+ let alone 42. I am getting 2-3 and my SGSII was getting average 6.

Sounds about right, you're getting half the speed on HSPA 21+ that you were on 42.

AT&T Galaxy Nexus Speed Test Results

I know there are a lot of threads out there for speed tests, however most of which are aimed at the CDMA version of the phone on the verizon wireless network.
If you are on the AT&T network, post the results of your SpeedTest.Net results.
Get the SpeedTest.Net app here
That's a good usable speed, but for HSPA+ I don't think it's that good. I've never used HSPA+ but from what I've seen others get I'm just throwing that out there.
This is what I generally average in NJ on AT&T. Acceptable.
HSPA+ its not bad but the att lte rocks (if available in your area)
Would put a picture but I am not allowed to post pics on this forum for some reason.
Below is the picture. I could not edit my post and add it so I had to repost a new thread.
For mobile speeds on a faux 4G its not bad. Good upload speed. I am raving on the lte network about their speed tests. Its blazing fast.
You think att will offer a Nexus lte device like Verizon?
Anyways just wanted to post the lte speed test for my skyrocket.
I know its not the nexus but wanted to show their lte speeds incase an lte version of the Nexus was released in March like the rumor has it planned.

This is also about average for just outside of Manassas, VA (@ work). At home (up in the eastern panhandle of WV) I average about 4.5 or so. In DC I've gotten both really good speeds (8-9 MBPS) and pretty slow speeds (~ 1 MBPS), so it is definitely dependent upon the tower you are connected to and throughput/backhaul it has installed...
I'm getting between 6-7.2 mbps down in Austin TX, with LTE provisioned in my at&t account and using the PTA APN.

Good, I hadn't gotten around to posting that for you. Some people have had good luck with the PTA APN (the one for LTE) but I have not. You can always try it and see if it helps even more...

Is this speed right

Just done a speed test on my nexus with the speedtest app and I got a speed of 1544kbps download and 440kbps upload ... is this speed OK over 3g? Or is this kinda slow. I'm not too sure what speed I should be getting.

Below are my 3g speeds. Depends where you are, signal, whether or not there is a lot of bandwidth available etc.
Yesterday I was getting speeds closer to yours in the exact same place I got the 7mbps.

the only way to know if its a "good" speed is if you can compare to a different phone on the same network near you, or another phone, swapping your SIM into it to test.
What speeds do you all see on the Galaxy Nexus? I am considering getting this, and using it on T-Mobile. I replied to some other posts about this, but didn't really get firm responses. I have a HTC Amaze, and see speeds in the 18Mbps area, and 3 - 6 in a bad coverage area. The Amaze supports HSPA+ 42, and the Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ 21. Will I see 18Mbps on the Galaxy Nexus, or 7 - 8 like most people post. Of course, T-Mobile is the only U.S. carrier with HSPA+ 42.

Yeah, it is. I haven't rooted/put a custom ROM onto my device, tho so maybe doing that might help the speeds. I have been kind of dissatisfied with T-mobile in that aspect. The funny thing is that they sent me a text message survey a few weeks ago asking me if i would recommend t-mobile to friends, to which I responded very unlikely. Yesterday I got a phone call from t-mobile trying to get more information out of me about why I was dissatisfied. I tried to answer as best I could, and in the end, they gave me a $25 credit. I still keep thinking of things that I wish I would have said to them. Like for example whenever I go to a place where there are tons of people like at a concert or something, I will have no chance of calling or texting. My phone says I have signal, but there is no signal.

I was just in Philadelphia over the weekend and loved the speeds on ATT. I got 7 Mbps with a ping around 80. So good compared to here in Cali.
I'm in Orlando FL. At home about 1-3 down and .5 up, but at work (a few miles away) I get 3-4 solid and 1 up.
At home on a Sunday am I get solid 6 down and 1 up.
So I'm happy, my "unlimited" data lasts longer than if I had an LTE.
Ran XXLA2 then changed to UGLC1 and see really no diff.
I did get Getril Premium and matched up my RIL but no diff then either.
My reception with this phone sucks in my house but at work it's stellar.
Of course at work I can see the tower from my office window .
APN: I use standard default from the first time I put in the ATT sim from my Atrix.
Here's what we are getting in Vilnius/Lithuania.
HSPA or HSDPA (I dont know the diff; at least I see "H" near the signal strenght).

Aren't HSPA + speeds supposed to be higher ?

On ICS, when you're on HSPA+ it identified in "about phone" as HSDPA or HSPAP.
On (stock) Jelly Bean, it'll properly identify as HSPA+ in the "about phone" screen.
Regardless, the speeds are the same, it just reports it slightly differently. And it looks like you're running some weird custom ROM, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was reporting it differently than stock Jelly Bean.

First thing to be sure if that you are talking about mbps or MB/s. If it is MBs, then I think it's pretty good speed.

I'd say that's about average for tmo. I've gotten faster before but now I just use the phone and try not to worry about it. Tmo speeds are much better than at&t in my area.
with my one s, I have seen it got around 4 Mbps to 8 Mbps (that is with DC 42Mbps) with 2 bars. On a good day with good signal I think it can get to around 15 Mbps but I think normally it hovers around 10ish. So I think your number is fine.

I got the first one at 49th street yesterday and the second pic at columbus circle this AM.
I've hit better peak DCHSPA+ speeds around 20-25mbps in some areas but it's great that they just updated the subways and it's fitted with LTE already.
These are all on the fast.t-mobile apn.
The thing that's most notable on LTE is that the upload speeds are >3.5 Mbps (the cap I've always hit while on HSPA+).
Buddy of mine was seeing in the 20mbits in Houston this weekend. Hoping to see speeds a little faster than that when it rolls out to San Antonio this month or next.

And details on one of them -

It seems as though the LTE speeds aren't all that much better than HSPA+ speeds.
