Problems with voice dialing on Jelly Bean - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am experiencing problem voice dialing from bluetooth headset on jellybean roms on the vzw gNexus.
On any non jellybean rom i can say... for example... "call mom on mobile" and it will, 95% of the time call mom. On jelly bean if i say the same phrase, it will 100% of the time return "calling tim, on mobile". In fact, it doesn't mater what contact name i say, it it ALWAYS suggests the wrong contact.
I thought, ok, lets try google now. If i open google not, tap the mic(voice input) option, and say, "call mom on mobile" it will fill in the search box with "call mom on mobile" so its understanding me correctly, then below that is says
"did you mean call tim on mobile"
and lists tim then mom in a list of numbers to call.
I spent over 3 hours trying to get this to work right, flashed every JB rom i could find, wiped and rewiped and reflashed. Finally went back to ICS and retested, sure enough it works awesome on ICS.
Can anyone atleast try to replicate this problem, or is anyone already experiencing it?
THanks!

Bump

Bump again.
Almost 50 views, if anyone using a bluetooth and Jellybean can at least try it and let me know if it happens to you or not. Thanks

Works fine for me.

what phone and rom are you using? Looks like GSM, and OTA.
I just checked it again and i got:
"Call mom on mobile"
**Did you mean -Mark**
Mark
Mom
Kathy
thats from google now.
If it activate the voice dialer directly from the bluetooth, it will call bob, mark, tim, or funniest a business name that starts with "borderview". Even after 20 tries it will not dial "mom" lol.
Alternatively, I tried dialing mark, tim, bob, and borderview directly, and after 10 tries each, they will not dial if i try to dial them, only if i try and dial mom. lol very frustrating.

Yes stock gsm JB with root. Does it only happen with your headset? If so, try a different BT headset.

It happens using a $150 bose headset, as well as a $20 plantronics.
If it don't use the bluetooth i still get terrible suggestions, such as..
"call mom on mobile"
Did you mean call tim?
Tim
Mom
Mark
wtf???

That's weird. Only thing I'd try now is flashing a different JB rom, but I can't really imagine that being the problem. Have you let someone else try it? Maybe it is you after all.

In have tried 3 different roms, and have been using the voice dialer since android 2.1 on over 10 devices. Also it works flawlessly on ISC using the same hardware. Is anyone able to successfully Bluetooth voice dial on jelly bean on a vzw gnexus?

I just flashed my Sprint Nexus to JB last night and have exactly the same problem. I hadn't tried any calling on ICS before I flashed, so I can't compare on the same phone.
I just came from an Epic 4G Touch that used Vlingo, and it was always about 95% accurate. I hate to step backwards, but I may have to switch back to that.
Why can't anyone mimic the old MS voice dial where it asked for confirmation before dialing? If I said, "Call mom on mobile", it would ask, "Call mom on mobile?" I said "Yes" and it would dial.
The way it is now goes against all safety concerns for hands-free driving. Now I have to look at the screen as it starts to dial and madly grab at the End Call button when it guesses the wrong name to call.

Im glad someone finally responded and said yes i have this problem, or no i use this feature and it works every time.
THis is a huge concern and i feel its only happening on the ported(CDMA) roms.
Can anyone else confirm this on a toro or toroplus, and confirm that this is not an issue on GSM gnexus's?
Thanks!

This makes me feel very strongly that the issue has been caused by something in the porting process. I will PM on of the devs. and see if he can reproduce it.

i am also having this problem on my CDMA nexus with JB. Everytime it's not even remotely close to properly detecting my call request.

I absolutely love the cyberon voice dialer because it works and it has verification.
Unfortunately, under JB when you press the dial button on the bluetooth headset the google now voice dialer overrides my cyberon voice dialer. The only way to make cyberon work is to completely disable google search. This completely disables all the new voice command support and google now as well.
Basically 3rd party voice dialers are no longer compatible!
No, the built in dialer is still unusable especially without verification.

For me, I've always had absolutely horrible results when using voice dial initiated from the Bluetooth earpiece (two different Jawbone Icons, three different Android phones, Eclair through Jelly Bean, official or custom ROM.)
Using voice search, Google Now, JB voice typing, or Dragon with Swype, it's perfect..

Can the long button press be changed from voice dial to voice search? (I think those are the right terms.) Voice search understands and dials much better. Plus, it sucks to be limited to just dialing from the headset.

Cyberon is awesome. I wouldn't use a voice dialer without confirmation. I don't want people calling me back because my dialer got it wrong. Sometimes this can cause serious problems. If google adds a confirmation option that's when I'll give them a serious try. I've been told even the iphone voice dialer has confirmation.

[Q] Call waiting please help

So, I am really getting irritated that you can not dismiss a call or the call wont dismiss itself when you are on call waiting and want to get rid of 1 caller. Then, once you have used the call waiting 1 time on a phone call, since it doesn't disconnect itself when the person you want to dismiss hangs up, there is no option to answer another call when it comes in. There has to be a way to fix this flaw, and there are so many of you intelegent devs out there. was wondering if any of you know a way to fix this. Also if you could, while on 3 way call make it to be able to go back to only one caller on the line without having to hang up on everybody. Thanks in advance for anyone that has a fix for this.
Omg I hate that so muchhhhh. I think its something to do with android cuz this was how it was on my hero
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It's actually a CDMA limitation on Sprint's part (network), not anything particular to do with Android.
Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
i didn't have that problem on my moment
And I've never had it with any phone I've ever had with sprint, and I've been with sprint since about 2000. This is definitely a samsung issue, but all they can tell me is that they are working on it.
I don't know.... I still have that same issue on my touch pro 2 with sprint. My girl has the evo and same **** there too perhaps it is either a sprint thing or cdma thing

No offense but that is bull. We have the issue on our Epcis but not on our Evo, and absolutely not an issue on TP2!
So devs, is there anyway to fix this?
Thank you
Thank you aero1. When I was reading his post, I was like, "I know I'm not stupid." I've had the Touch, Touch Pro, and the Evo, and neither of them had this problem. As far as a fix is concerned, when I first got the phone, I called Samsung about it, and they told me they were working on it, and that they would have an update out for it. But, you know Samsung. The 3-way calling isn't the only issue here. Switching back and forth between calls is hard, if you try to three way someone in, and they don't answer, you have to hang up or just have the entire conversation on their voicemail. If a second person calls you while you're on the line with someone, there is no longer a swap button. I'm saying all this just in case there are others out there like the guy who says this has always been a problem. It's not just a three way calling problem, it's the dial pad.
I have seen this too on.gy epic and my friend with evo says the same
Basically when you are on a call and you get another call you can't answer that without losing the current call...the hold option doesn't work either...I think its a sprint issue...3 way calling is impossible.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
???
But that isn't a problem on the Epic, and I don't think it's a problem on the Evo either. You CAN answer a call without losing the current call on the Epic. I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about. The issue is, should you get another call, after that, you don't lose it, you just can't click back over. I have an Evo, and I can assure you that it is not a problem on MY Evo.
Skype Can Do It!
I found a workable/laughable solution to this 3-way calling problem. For $2.99 a month, you can get unlimited calls with Skype, over a wifi, or 4G connection. Sad, I know, but so far, it's worked just fine for me, and has been fairly flawless. I put my number in to show up in the Skype caller ID, so that when I do make calls from skype, they see my number pop up.

[Q] Rogers S3 stock JB replace voice dialer with google now

Upgraded my rogers s3 to latest stock JB last night. however today when I tried bluetooth headset dialing (Sony MW600) I was surprised to hear S Voice as i thought it was completely replaced by Google now, but it was still there. Fixed that issue by disabling S Voice under Settings-->Applications
Now when I price dial button on headset, it launches Voice Dialer, however I was expecting it to launch Google Now which includes voice dialing and other functions. Not able to figure out how to do that.
So far I tried clearing defaults and data for Google search app (as suggested in some threads) but no other solutions specified worked for me.
Anybody successful in changing this behavior without rooting?

[Q] Voice apps other than S-Voice not working over bluetooth

I have been searching everywhere and have not found a solution to this, so I apologize if I missed it somewhere. As I've learned and have read from others, S-Voice is crap! Google Now is much MUCH better at voice recognition, particularly with names. The problem is, over bluetooth, my voice commands are only picked up by S-Voice. Google Now gets stuck at the "Initializing" then says "Didn't catch that" and closes. I've gotten it to intermittently work with Utter!, but I can't rely on that. Google Now works great over headphones or from the phone itself. It's just over Bluetooth when it doesn't work. After researching I'm almost convinced Samsung (or Vlingo) set it up that way; it's as if the mic is disabled with any app other than S-Voice. My question is, has anyone figured out how to get Google Now, or any other voice app for that matter, to be recognized over bluetooth?
I'm running stock JB with root (fyi, this was going on before I rooted). I know it'll probably work just fine if I flashed CM10, but I actually like the setup I have.
Edit: After looking more, I found this thread. I tested out turning off the "Media Audio" and Google Now works, but in further investigating when I click the button on my bluetooth, it's the voice dialer that pops up and that is what doesn't work, not Google Now. I can't see, to figure out how to get Google Now to show up and not voice dialer.
Edit 2: I forgot to mention I'm using a Motorola Roadster bluetooth speaker, but I don't think that's the problem.
Same issue here. Exists on every rom I try. Bluetooth in general is buggy as heel on the S3. It's really disappointing. I don't see many answers here on XDA...
Same here and I am on a new s2 ROM sbean v12 any fix would be great

[Q] Launch Google Now voice search with Bluetooth headset button

Hello All,
I have searched, and searched to no avail. I have a Jawbone Era bluetooth headset and I would like to launch Google Now instead of S-voice when I push the headset button. I have tried bluetooth launch and it did not work. I am non-rooted and would like to stay that way if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thank you, that solved my problem, did not realize that you had to disable s-voice.
Were you able to get Google Now Voice? I disabled S-voice and get Google Voice Dialer. Read about using an app to change what bluetooth initiates but that it has stopped working since 4.1.
Would love to get this working. Could anybody elaborate a bit more on how they got Google Now Voice?

First off I changed my lock screen to none when I am In my car and using bluetooth speakerphone.Google voice won't recognize voice commands when bluetooth is connected.A work around is to enable touch sounds in sound settings.Long press the menu bar on your phone, touch the G for google now and it works perfectly on bluetooth speakerphone with voice commands. Please note I use a phone mount in my car to make this accessible
Ive been tearing my head apart with a similar problem
see i have a bluetooth motorcycle helmet. it has a button that launches the default voice app on any phone, the app responds to the button that normally is play and pause not to the button that is designated for a voice app ive yet to been able to find an app that lets you change your default voice app or change the reaction to that voice button i would like to launch dragon which in my opinion is the best voice app but thats just preference. any ideas anyone? oh by the way im on a note 2 running jedi xp11 but gonna update to xp14 as soon as it finishes downloading which take forever .

This was exactly the fix I was looking for. I find the older voice dialer safer when I'm driving the car b/c google now voice may present you with choices in visual form only. Plus the dialer works from my BT headset even when the screen is locked, yes it bypasses the lock screen. It took me a bit to realize I had to go into the Application Manager to disable S Voice.
Stupid things like S Voice make me want to root my S4. I'm trying to avoid the time suck that rooting and rom'ming can be, but Samsung is killing me with their bubbly and not quite ready for prime time look, feel, and apps.
Give this app a try immediately! I helped beta test and it works wonderfully! Simply connect your Bluetooth headset, press the button on the headset, select this app as the default to open on your phone and select always. Now just press your Bluetooth headset button and boom! Google now opens!

HD voice? How?

Yeah I'm connected to LTE. Literally standing right next to the person I'm calling. Her phone is identical to mine as far as I can tell, except her HD voice works and mine doesn't.
The baseband version says N900TUVUDNF4 and the weird thing is my wife's phone shows the same exact thing.
But it says the device is up to date when I tap on software update.
Is there a way to force it to update to NF6? Weird that it works on hers but not mine.

So I noticed I'm getting HD voice intermittently now, so is my wife. Only 1 of us can get it though. If I call her or she calls me, either I will have it or she will have it, but never both of us at the same time.
We've duplicated this countless times. We can be right next to each other, or 30 miles away from each other. It doesn't matter. 1 of us will have HD voice, and the other won't. And which one of us has HD voice will change. If we hang up and call back 10 times, I will have HD voice several of those times (but she won't), and she will have HD voice the rest (but I won't). Even if neither of us move an inch, this is how it always works, whether right next to each other or 30 miles apart.
We're both still using the identical Note 3s, not rooted, with all the latest updates and with T-Mobile service, on the same account.
Has anyone ever confirmed both parties had HD voice on a call, with T-Mobile Note 3s?
I have noticed the data issue is resolved though. No more needing to activate and deactivate airplane mode to keep data flowing. The latest update did indeed seem to fix that issue.
I'm confused: Don't you need phones on both ends to be HD voice capable to be able to use HD voice? At least thats what I think I remember from reading about it. In other words when you call your wife and it says HD voice on your phone, isn't it HD voice call both ways, regardless if it says so on her as well or not? Maybe message comes up only on originating phone, or something like that.

If your data icon change from LTE to 4G when you are in a call then your HD voice is not working, or you are in an area where LTE is not implemented yet. But if your icon stays on LTE your HD voice is for sure working.
