Are the Canadian Carriers include in here too? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

There is 2 forums for Galaxy SIII, the international (i guess) and this one (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III).
What about Telus, Rogers, Bell & Videotron? Is there a specific forum I havent found for ROMs or should I look into the AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon one?
Thanks

at&t is the best one for you to look at.

I know that for WIND and Mobilicity, the T-Mobile section is the one to go to. For Bell as previous poster said is AT&T and for Rogers, Telus I'm not too sure about.

Telus, Bell and Rogers all have the same model as AT&T, so AT&T developments should work on their phones.
Wind/Mobilicity/Videotron all have the same model as T-Mobile.
I'm just going to guess that eventually we'll start seeing roms that are compatible with all of the above carrier's phones.

I'm tired of the "it should work" response, it really depends on what you're wanting to do. For example: Most of the mods listed in the AT&T section state that they require build UCALEM; That's not what shipped on the Telus/Rogers/Bell variant. On the advice of multiple posters here on the forums, I attempted using some of these mods anyway: It resulted in a hard-brick and I had to take the device back to the store for a swap.
I understand that this is a new device and it will take some time for real development to get going (there's a total of 2 ROMs in the AT&T section so far) but with so many variants, we really need to be careful with what we flash, and we definitely need to have a clearly-marked section for every variant. If AT&T is the same as Telus/Bell/Rogers, we need it labelled as such on the forum list. I don't want Samsung/Telus/Rogers/Bell thinking they've got a defective model because people keep flashing the wrong version of stuff onto their phone and having to take it in for repair/swap.

At least this group is in the right vicinity, there are a whole bunch chatting away on the "Official Canadian Thread" in the 9300 international version. I am surprised a moderator has not brought that thread here. With this complete mayhem, I fear for keen new Android users looking to mod their phones and ending up with bricks because they install mods/roms from the wrong firmware versions.
Once Verizon launches on July 10 and the ATT model becomes widely available at retailers this week, I think this mess will get so out of hand, that XDA will have no choice but to finally roll up their sleeves and clean it up. Until then, I caution all of you to be extremely careful regarding any mods you are doing, if uncertain about version, ask in the thread before installing. Try to look for posts from others from the same carrier who have successfully done what you want to do.

I-747m and I-747 question

OK my sister in law and her fiance bought gs3s yesterday from att here in Louisiana USA.
One is i-747 and one is i-747m, now I did some research and figured out the "M" is the Canadian version per say.
Now they are letting me go flash happy with them I've found ROMs and rooting etc but I've seen issues with modems and etc maybe....
But since they are for sure USA phones does it really matter on what I flash? Or do I have to make sure the "M" gets special attention?
Sorry for the longevity of this just trying to be precise for its not my personal phones lol

I'm in Canada so I have the i747m and I've flashed AT&T Roms with no problems. When I do flash AT&T Roms though my phone becomes branded as an AT&T model(i747) but other than that nothing changes. As always make a backup and happy flashing.

[Q] MIUI + SGH-317m

I have owned, rooted, and installed ROMs on a few Android phones over the years, but still feel sort of new to the scene. I'm looking to install MIUI on my Samsung Galaxy Note II (SGH-317m) but have a few questions before I start, as I can't seem to find enough information to verify my assumptions on the matter.
-I have already rooted my device with CWM v6.0.1.4 installed
-I have already backed up my ROM to internal storage
-I have searched and found two versions of the MIUI ROM, one here in the forums at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071480 and one at the official Chinese MIUI site http://www.miui.com/development.html
My first question is: I live in Canada and have just purchased the Telus locked SGH-317m. From my gatherings over the years I have found the AT&T and Telus phones to have the same model number. Is this also the case with the Note II? I am having difficulty finding any information when I use "Telus" and "SGH-317m" as keywords in my searches.
My second question is: The download hosted at the aforementioned official MIUI site doesn't seem to show any information as to what model it is meant to be installed on. Does this mean it will work on the Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T models, or should I just go for the unofficial version from these forums?
As far as gsm varients Our Roms are able to flash on each others devices. What is the model number you see on the miui page?

It just shows the downloaf link next to the phone icon, as well as additional links to upgrade from previous versions. I can't seem to find any information on it.

I would steer clear until you knew for sure. Our device name is t0lte just so ya know

t0lte? I don't see that name anywhere, either in the about section within settings or behind the battery.
So I took a better look at the MIUI ROM and opened up CSCVersion.txt, which has one line that simply reads "N7100OZSALJ7" which I assume means it is made for the 3G international GT-N7100 model. I'm not sure if this matters, but both models seem to operate under GSM and UMTS, and I'm sure I would be able to access 4G, but I don't think I'll chance it.
I also found out that the Canadian model (Bell Rogers SaskTel and Telus) seems to have the exact same specs and model number as its American AT&T counterpart, with the exception of the added "M" to the end of the American SGH-I317 model number. In my experience dealing with computer drivers this usually tends not to be an issue, and the drivers work universally.
Maybe I'm looking into this too deeply.. Still if anyone from Canada has any more information, please let me know!
All the Canadian variants use Rogers/Tmobile ect share the forum and development (roms, kernels ect) with the AT&T version

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely be checking out the one I found here in the AT&T forum soon enough.

Non-Windmobile Note ll. Please.

Hi
I don't know if I am asking in the right place but if someone knows the answer I would really appreciate it.
I found a good deal on a Note ll that would save me a lot of money, only thing is I'm with Windmobile/Canada (which uses 1700/2100 frequency/bands and AWS network similar to T-Mobile in the USA as some of you know) but the phone isn't (works with Rogers, Bell, Fido...).
Now, I'm just dying to know, is there ANYTHING I can do to make the phone work with Wind? I've read and read and read I can't find a definitive answer. Some people selling Note ll phones on Craigslist claim their phones work with any carrier including Wind or Mobilicity. But some people say no way in hell that's possible.
So, please, can someone give me an answer to my question? Yes or no?
Thanks.

Yes, it is possible. There is an unlock method before upgrading to 4.1.2. When the Note II came out with 4.1.1, there is a method used (go to the general forums to find more about this) without rooting the device.
If I were you, though, I would not trust online purchases of the Note II. Some people claim it stolen after you buy it so they get compensation for it if they have insurance for their phone.

Caveat emptor. There are stolen devices out there, and fraudulent sellers.
With this disclaimer out of the way, your sellers with I317Ms claiming they'll work on Wind and Mobilicity have simply applied the mod outlined in this thread which you could do yourself.
If I were to buy another Note 2 via classifieds now, I'd pick a locked I317M (I'd avoid a locked BMA3 running T889V due to its modem-related bootloop issues), flash its initial release modem with Odin, unlock, update, and apply the AWS mod. (Granted I'm using Virgin Mobile, but having AWS could come in handy stateside with a T-Mobile prepaid SIM.)
Thanks kennyglass for moving my question to the right place. I wasn't sure where to ask because I'm not a frequent user of this site.
Thanks a million to Crinkypops and Darkshado for answering my question. I appreciate that. The good news is that now I know it is possible to make the phone work on an AWS network. The bad news is I have no clue how to do any of that stuff myself. I have zero experience or knowledge in this stuff, which means l'll probably have to get someone else with the necessary expertise to do this for me.....if l can find one.
Now a couple of things, if I get a new phone (factory unlocked) and it's already 4.1.2, would it be possible to change it to the older 4.1.1 ?
Is doing all the stuff you guys told me about involve rooting or whatever? I really don't want to mess up the phone with changing all kinds of things on it because I don't want to get stuck without a phone if something goes wrong and like I said I don't know anything about this stuff.
So, what if I buy a phone that was made to work with Wind or T-Mobile, would it be possible to modify it to make it work with other companies too? I really don't know why things have to be this complicated.
You have to start somewhere, it'll take a fair amount of reading, but it can be done.
Aside from their previous Nexus models, as of writing these lines, there's no such thing as a "factory unlocked" phone for Samsung Canada. All the SIM-unlocked devices you encounter were sold through carriers, and originally locked. Some sellers might also have grey market imports that were indeed never locked, but that's beyond the scope of this discussion, since we're interested in the North American variants of the Note 2.
You can downgrade the ROM back to 4.1.1 on all Canadian Note 2 variants, although I wouldn't try it on the T889V because it's been known to cause issues. Seems like there's a bug specific to this model.
You said you didn't want to be stuck without a phone if things went wrong, how about having a backup phone? The nice thing with two Android phones is that it's easy to keep their contacts and calendars synchronized.
The downgrade-to-unlock procedure can be done entirely using official (leaked) Samsung ROM images and tools, and does not require root. Done properly it will not trip the custom flash counter.
The AWS mod uses hidden factory built-in menus with leaked (QPST/QXDM) or reverse engineered tools (NV reader-writer / CDMA Workshop / EFS Pro). Again, it doesn't involve root and won't trip the flash counter. I317Ms that have had the AWS HSPA mod applied still work with their original carriers as before.
Thanks again, darkshadow.
Quick question. How do I know if the phone is I317M or BMA3 and running T889V ? Is l317M or BMA3 written on the back (once the cover is removed)?

You can check it at the bottom of the box with the IMEI. I would advise you to actually go on the phone, though, and go to settings>about phone and then you'll see the IMEI, baseband, and model number in there. Make sure that the IMEI matches with the box. Some people steal phones and then just buy boxes so beware.
Good luck on your purchase!

Thanks again, crinkypops. I will. I first have to find out if the phone the guy can get me is an i317m and I'll go from there.
Well, looks like the only option I have is to buy a used Note II on CL. My "friend" who was going to hook me up with a new phone through a buddy of his is an unreliable scum bag of a "friend" and I'm not going to bother with him any more.
So now I'm looking on CL but I'm trying not to buy any phone unless the seller has the sales receipt to make sure I'm not buying something that's stolen. However, some sellers don't want to give the receipt -although willing to show it- because it has their personal information and my question is, would the receipt have the ID # (if that's what it's called) of the particular phone printed on it? If the phone is still under warranty, would it be possible to get it repaired (if there's a need) without a receipt?
Any other advice on how to avoid getting scammed buying a phone on CL?
Thanks.
Which city are you from? I am in vancouver and might consider selling if the price is right. I have the box and receipt. Phone is rooted running x14 with wind. Its still locked though.

I don't know what the problem is. I tried to send private messages to vseslija and crinkypops but I don't think they went through.
vseslija, was your phone purchased from Wind?
---
I'm a bit confused. Some guy is telling me I need to get the T889 and not the i317m if I want to use my phone with Wind, but from the answers here and from what I see on CL that can't be correct. Am I right? He says the i317m will be slow and unstable. Speed of T889 vs i317m : 42 mbps vs 21 mbps. Any thoughts?
Thanks.
Yup mine was purchased directly from wind.
That guy is bsing you
Sent from SGH-T889v Canadian Wind Mobile
Hmm, the guy isn't completely wrong, but he's not completely right either...
The (Canadian) T889V and I317M as well as the (US) T889 and I317 are all capable of 42 Mbps DC-HSPA. The 21 Mbps numbers you might have seen are due to AT&T's HSPA network not supporting dual channel operation, unlike most (all?) Canadian HSPA networks.
The T889 and T889V work on AWS HSPA carriers like Wind, Mobilicity, Videotron or T-Mobile USA out of the box. (The T889V won't work on LTE if you decide to switch back to Robellusfivirkoo, but that's another story, and there's also a way to enable that.)
The I317 and I317M won't, but are very easy to modify in order to enable the AWS HSPA you'll need. There have been a handful of reports of flaky connections on the AWS mod thread, but the ratio is so low that I'm lead to wonder if: there's an undocumented hardware revision for which the mod won't work, their phones or cellular networks had other issues, or if those trying to apply it did something wrong along the way.
I haven't checked Kijiji or CL for phones in a while, but I do recall the T889V commanding a slight premium over the I317M at one point because they were rarer.
Thanks again guys for replying. Man this has given me a lot of headache. Get a Wind Note and get it over with or get an i317m and mod it (have someone do it for me) to get it to work with AWS? I guess listening to what you guys had to say, plus asking a local cell phone shop is making me feel confident that it IS possible to get an i317m work on the AWS without any problems. Now, I think I'm going to take my chances and look for one on CL. In the worst case scenario if for some reason it gives me a headache I'm assuming I can have the process reversed (restore it to its original system) and I'll just sell it and get me a Note that was made specifically for Wind.
To those who helped me and answered my questions, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Just noticed the i317. So I guess there's an i317 and an i317m. Did some reading but the only difference I can see is that the "M" model is for the Canadian market. Am I right? Does an i317 work in Canada just fine?
The AT&T I317 should work just fine. But, (there's always one, isn't it?) its baseband has some "annoying" limitations (RAT lock is the term you'll want to search) that prevent you from toggling between network modes easily, i.e. you can't switch it between GSM only, WCDMA only, GSM/WCDMA/LTE like you can the Canadian model. Plus there are all the import related considerations you have to keep in mind (taxes and brokerage fees), plus buying something expensive sight-unseen.
The other differences are more benign and software-related. Nothing that can't be fixed with some ROM-flashing, like non-Robellusfivirkoo CSC settings.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 SGH-i317 AT&T Question and help

I need some help in understanding this Samsung galaxy note 2
I have been reading all that I can about my new phone a Samsung galaxy note 2 SGH-i317
from what I can tell from my lack of phone Geekizum there is two models a 7000 and 7005??
7000 is European 3g?? and the 7005 4g is USA?? then there are the sprint, Verizon , AT&T, and T-mobile fall under the 4g USA model??
my question is are all the phones from the USA Big four the same phone with different brands on them or are they made differently for each
company?? if not then why are some custom roms made for different phones i.e., sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile
Question if I have rooted my phone and have a custom recovery install can I install any rom?? or go from 4.1.2 to say 4.4???
the unlocked phone Fry's sold me ended up to be a AT&T phone but my carrier is T-Mobile so I wish to be able to find and use the t mobile hot spots but they are not on this AT&T phone
I have downloaded these roms the 1- Jedi X20,2- CleanROM ACE 5.0, and JellyBam v9.00
I have noticed the this site has banned the JellyBAM rom???
so if there is a better rom the jedi x20 and cleanroom ace v5 can someone point me that way Please??
but overall what are the differences between the phone if any and why????

I'm not very active here but I believe all of your questions can be answered within existing threads and/or a few Google searches. You probably haven't gotten a response because of that. There are even forums for each model of the phone.
I bet if you do a bit of research and come back with a more specific question that is posted within a related thread, you will see a response.
The folks here are really helpful but it's a lot to ask them to rewrite/repost information that is already posted and can easily be found.

It may be the structure of your post. No one knows where to start.
If maybe you'd thrown a couple of questions out, you would have gotten answers. I read it three times and it's still WTF.
And the post above mine is correct. Goggling for the phone differences on your own, eliminates cluttering up the forum with answers you could have already found, and may already have.
Basically the N7100 and N7105 are the international versions of the Note 2. Each carrier, Sprint, TMO, Verizon, ATT has their own version of the software basically to load all their own crapware on it.
So there are different versions of ROMS supporting those carriers, with radio files to support their networks.

Now that SOME branded phones have forums

I was just wondering where the best place to go for the US Cellular version would end up being. I kind of assume just stick to the overall "non-branded" forums, but since I do believe the Sprint version is the LS991 and the US Cellular is US991 if they will essential run the same way (granted I would not flash a Sprint ROM onto my US Cellular device but just for various postings or apps or whatever the case may be).
What I am afraid of is just that since I am with a much smaller carrier that I might just be SOL when it comes to the typical DEV support (I had Sprint and AT&T in the past which as we know are two of the heavy hitters when it comes to devices and Developer support)
......I guess worse case scenario I just have to cook my own ROMS, but any 411 on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks!
