I went to bed with about 50% power left in my KF but got woken up by a ping in the morning. Pressed the power button and I see a notice saying power is down to 12%. Do all ICS ROM currently function like this which the power button only turns off the screen but not the device? I never had an issue with CM7 and Modoco ROM. Should I just turn off WIFI before soft power off to save battery? Seem kind of silly to sit there and wait for the device to reboot into recovery and shutdown from there.
The shutoff on the ISC Roms was fixed I thought... its worth a try. D

Hi all,
does anyone sometimes have to press the power button (when phone is completely turned off) twice (2 presses to turn on) sometimes?...
so just to confirm
- handset is off
- push power button once (sometimes doesnt come on
- push for second time (and powers up)
im defiantly pushing for long enough
iv have no issues with the button at all when in the UI or when locking/unlocking display
iv done a few tests where i have turned off. then went to switch on, with the same pressure and sometimes it starts with one, sometimes it starts with two presses,
do u think this is a fault? anyone experience this? normal?
just checking...
thanks heaps!
I had the opposite on my first one. When I pressed the power button to turn screen off, the screen went black for 1 sec and jumped back on lock screen.

I don't think many people would turn their phone completely off so haven't found the issue.
When you power off what will be happening is the phone is off as much as it can be, but these buttons are soft off, the battery is still connected and some power must be drawn to run the power circuitry to detect the button being pressed again to signal to power back up the phone, in the same way when you turn your TV off by the remote, power is still drawn to run the remote sensor on the TV.
To keep the drain on the battery as low as possible so the battery isn't completely discharged over months of storage I suspect the power chip waiting for the on signal again is only sampling every so often to save power so it can be in super deep sleep state. This means depending on where in this cycle you are when you press the power button it might seem like it isn't responding, so typically you have to leave it depressed long enough for it to be "seen".
The better option is to just to put your phone into flight mode if you don't want to be disturbed or want the phone off. I do this overnight and lose no battery power by the morning, so it is as good as off. You can add a button to your home screen to do this quickly, widgets are included already for that.

Phil
Mine does the same thing.. Sometimes it does it with waking up from sleep also.

MY galaxy s2 has problems with powering off every now and then. it was really bad at one point where all it was doing is turning on and rebooting right after. i had a custom rom for months and never had problems until yesterday. i couldnt go on recovery mode because it would always restart every five seconds. Now it seems to less frequent because i realized that it always reboots when i touch the power button once. Sometimes when i push the power button to take it off sleep mode, the power options pops up (recovery, restart, power off etc) so thats when i thought the power button might be the problem
Any guesses on what could be the problem?? If its software problems or power button issue.
P.S. reset my phone, re rooted it, and put a new rom darkside. It literally stays on until i push the power button. then it restarts five seconds later.
the power buttons seems to stick....I have the same problem, the phone is acting as if the power button is being pressed without being let go. When the power button is held indefinitely it just keeps rebooting over and over again. It occurs sporadically, but once it sticks..it sticks. I seem to be able to unstick it by slapping it against my hand but eventually it turns off. Its definitely a hardware issue and I will open up the phone right now to investigate. Ill write if I find anything useful.

I think my phone is bricked. Here is what happened -
Wanted my phone to connect to a new Wifi, so I took it, turned on the Wifi from the default power widget. Before Wifi was fully turned on, I entered phone settings and took the Wifi page. Now the phone got frozen.
I pressed the power button for about 12 seconds and there was no change. Then I pulled the battery out to recover.
After that, the phone just wouldn't turn on. No fastboot mode either, not even charging. The ONLY change I can notice while power button is pressed for some seconds, is that the phone is getting lightly warmed up around the power button area in the backside. No signs of any overheating noticed at all.
Phone was running stock yakju 4.2.1 build with franco kernel. OC'ed to 1.4GHz. It was running super stable for the past so many weeks.
Question - can a phone simply get hard bricked just by pulling the battery out on a frozen screen? I am now seriously pissed with Samsung.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII with CM9 installed. About a week ago, the power button stopped working, or at least started behaving erratically. The power button could not be used to wake the phone up or put it to sleep, and if took the battery out and put it back in it would begin booting immediately. I don't think it did this before. I think that the power button is stuck in a way that the phone always reads at as being pressed though I am not sure. When I press the button it still clicks and feels like it did before. Yesterday when I rebooted the phone, and it hung on the bootup screen for CM9. The animation didn't loop, it just froze. I would like to revert back to the stock ROM so that I can send the phone in for a warranty repair, but I can't keep it in download mode because the power button is constantly pressed, causing it to reboot. Is there any way to keep the phone in download mode with the power button pressed so that I can revert back to the stock rom? I have a jig but it doesn't seem to work with the power button pressed. Thanks.
I am using the excellent Unofficial AICP ROM (Cheers Dev great work)
Today phone locked up, restarted and working again with 35% battery left.
About an hour later checked my phone only to find it was dead. Plugged in to charger but no LED and wouldn't turn on. Tried the "hold power button for 20-30 seconds " but no joy. Left to charge for an hour and tried the 20-30 second holding power button.... no joy.
Tried holding down the volume button and power button and it vibrated and booted to fastmode and was able to boot into twrp and then reboot system. All working again.
I believe the problem was the battery was completely drained (i mean dead) and so wouldn't boot at all. It has to be nougat or fingerprint sensor and possibly the kernel that is causing massive battery drain.
Wanted to post this so it helps someone else in that same situation.
