No Speaker sound (speaker phone, ringer, etc.) - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey people,
I'm having an issue with the large speaker on my E4GT.
It was working when I received it and here's what I've done since...
Factory Reset via settings
Flashed it to Boost Mobile w/stock ROM no sound
Rooted stock ROM via ODIN no sound
Flashed to Calk's 3.0 via SD and Rouge CWM no sound
Flashed Calk's bare ROM converter via SD & Rouge CWM no sound
To fix I have tried
Viciously banging my headphone jack w/ Beats Studios
Apks such as Volume+
Wiping everything via Rouge CWM & Reflashing ROM
Can someone please help me out?

Great me too
I just had this happen on my phone, and I'm not sure I know exactly when it started because I put my phone in vibrate mode quite often. I believe I last heard sound from my speaker on Monday. Now I hear nothing, be it phone calls, texts, or music. Sound from the earpiece is fine. Sound also works with headphones.
I was using ParanoidAndroid when I noticed the problem. A factory reset didn't help, nor did a revert to stock or CM9.
Any suggestions? I don't have insurance so I'm guessing a trip to the Sprint store is not an option.

I would say take it into a full service sprint store and have them have a go at it (flash stock rom prior). my guess is the speaker itself may be blown. the speaker for the E4GT is real easy to remove and replace and is a normal repair part kept in stock.

Still take it to a sprint store ( find a corporate full service store, if you need help locating one send me a pm ) . As long as the phone isn't damaged beyond economical repair ( broken screen, liquid damaged, run over by a car), the repair will cost you 35$.

Thanks for the recommendation Rossk. However, seeing as the disassembly of the phone seems easy enough, I was thinking of switching out the speaker myself.
I didn't bother though, as I never believed it was a hardware issue. I had been trying to fix it by flashing only ICS and JB roms, so I figured I'd try a stock GB rom, and now it works.
What a relief. I would have hated to have some repair guy bust open my phone unnecessarily and fail to fix the problem.

[Q] Headset speaker glitch

Hey all. As with most people who have been giving DK28 a good run for its money, I've been experiencing the bug where you cannot get any audio out of the headset without first toggling the speakerphone. This started for me when I gave Cyanogenmod a try. I odin flashed back to stock DK28 (vanilla sprint flash), and was still having the problem. It actually got so bad that my headset speaker only kind of works now. I pretty much am forced to leave it on speakerphone for the entire conversation, or else audio drops out.
This became such an annoyance that I went ahead and flashed back to stock DI18 with Odin (making sure to use the correct MD5 and everything), and the problem still followed me.
At this point, it is impossible for me to have a conversation without having the speakerphone on. It's quite embarrassing. I hate having such an amazing phone, with such a glaring flaw.
What am I missing? Have I completely borked my modem? Should I give Sprint a shot, and see if I can get a replacement?
Thanks!
-Evil.
TL;DR: MY SH!T BROKE!
Allllright.
I may have fixed it.
I used CW to apply the modem update from this thread. It would appear that my problem is resolved for both incoming and outgoing calls.
HUZZAH!
If anyone else is having this horrendously annoying problem, give that a shot and you should be good.
Love.

[Q] Did i blow a speaker?

For some reason the sound on my head set has become horrid. Its really muffled and on high pitches like the rings it sounds cracky. The only change I did so far to the phone was last night i installed Gingervillian's 1.5 firmware,
Then this morning used a backup and went back to my original FW CyanogenMod 7. This all seemed this all seemed to happen this afternoon
I tried playing around with the DPS but it has done nothing to really help...
Anyone have any ideas?

Two things.
One did you have best buy (or someone) put on a screen protector with thier "adhesive" and clean it for you? A COMMON problem, is that liquid (be it the cleaner or adhesive) will sometimes get into the earpiece (unintentionally of course) and cause damage to the speaker.
If this is not the case, and you think it's purely a problem between switching roms (using a backup), i would suggest going into clockwork recovery:
Mount your system and startup
Format your system and startup (yes i know, CyanogenMod install script does this for you)
Unmount system and startup
Wipe Davlik Cache (found in advanced section)
Wipe Cache
Wipe Data
Flash Cyanogen
Flash Gapps
This will give you the best possible solution to having the PROPER kernels, system, startup etc that you would get upgrading to CyanogenMod from Stock.
If the problem persists then i would THINK its hardware related.
Thanks for the fast reply! I did unmounted and whip and remount in the recovery menu. I didn't install the rom again... but used a backup with all my settings and apps that i had before i did the gingervillian flash and before the issue.
After doing a restore went to make a call I had the same thing =/.
I guess ill try doing a install from scratch just sucks all the programs and stuff I need to pack up.
I don't know what caused this issue I got my phone off ebay awhile ago and it has been been a few months no with no issues at all.
I wish there was an easier fix then deleting everything but if thats the case i will need to because this head set speaker is giving me a head ache lol.
Just did a clean install still having the same issues =/
Sorry to triple post but i fixed it
I got fed up so i took some caned air the stuff you can buy at radio shack or best buy or whatever and lightly sprayed it in to the vent... and low and behold it sounds crystal clear again! so there you have it! lol the FIX!

On a side note, lookup Titanium Backup in the market.... I use it religulously. Saves MUCH time trying to restore apps and settings. (BE CAREFUL NOT TO RESTORE RED SYSTEM APPS within titanium backup, this can cause problems and is the #1 reason people may complain about Titanium backup, But if you dont restore anything thats in red, youll be fine.)

[Q] G2 No Sound during voice calls

I recently rooted my wife's g2 and installed CM7.1-rc1 on it.
She quickly realized that the phone's sound didn't work unless she put it on speaker.. The guide I followed should have set s-off as well and when I start into hboot (or whatever the recovery mode is called) i do see a message at the top about s-off..
I've installed both the 7.1rc-1 and the latest nightly release and they both have this problem.
After doing this I've also installed the latest radio which appeared to install just fine.. I downloaded the latest radio from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
Version 12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03
In About phone->Baseband version it now lists 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
I wasn't able to find much else in the forums about this problem except for an incredible s and a wilfire.. It may be related to S-Off but i'm not sure exactly what to check. There are so many guides on how to root I just picked one that seemed easy, I can't even remember which one it was.. I obviously have root access just fine since I am able to install roms with no problems, I just can't get in call sound to work without turning on the speaker phone..
Note that the sound worked fine before rooting but I am not sure it worked with the stock version rooted since I only had that on here for a few hours and didn't make any calls.. Perhaps I should go back to stock and see if it even works there... Any suggestions before I do that?
Also, the original guide I used was basically the same as the one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik..._Vision#VERIFY_.28using_.22gfree_verify.22.29
Reading through that tutorial I found how to verify s-off, superCID and sim lock off.. according to the output all of those things are correct:
Code:
# ./gfree_verify
gfree verify_cid returned:
@CID: 11111111
OK
gfree verify_secu_flag returned:
@secu_flag: 0
OK
gfree verify_simlock returned:
@SIMLOCK= 00
OK
# start ril-daemon
#
Edit -- Since i posted this I have reverted back to the original sense 2.2 rom (the one that came with the phone) and I still have this problem.. This is the rooted version, I have not de-rooted/s-on'd the phone yet.
Just to clarify, only the incoming volume doesn't work and only if speakerphone is off.. I've played with all the different volumes on the phone with no luck.. The mic works fine as the other person can hear me whether speakerphone is on or not.
Adding screenshots of the boot screen if that helps.
Just a status update..
I have since unrooted s-on'd the phone putting it back to the factory settings and i still have this problem.. Ironic that this could be a hardware problem when it happened literally right after the whole root process and what not.. At least it should still be under warranty so I'll be calling htc either tomorrow or monday if they aren't available by phone on weekends.
My wife is still going to blame me for this but I'm not sure what else I can possibly do.. Perhaps the customer service person will have an idea what can be causing this.. I have played around with headphones and car mode. With headphones on I get sound from the headphones just fine.. If i turn on speakerphone while i have headphones plugged in the sound does not come out the speaker on the phone (just my headphones) which means it doesn't appear that my phone thinks there are always headphones plugged in -- otherwise speakerphone wouldn't turn on.
My only other option to returning it is just tell my wife to always use speakerphone, which she won't like for sure.

got same problem on my HTC HD2... warranty is over I think.. more than 1year.. guess i will need pay for it to repair. =/
this might help
Hey I'm not sure if you've fixed your problem yet but I had kind of the same problem with my rooted HTC g2.....I tried everything to fix it and then finally I remembered that I had froze the "car home" app using my backup pro. I felt like the biggest jackass in the world but after I unfroze it all my sound was back to normal. Hope this helps you out but either way everybody can get a laugh thanks to my stupidity :-D
The fact that your headphones work and your small speaker does not suggests that this is a hardware issue. I would look up the hardware guide for this phone and see where you can find a new speaker, it may just be as simple as that!
I dont think it's a hardware problem, or it's just a super coincidence but after rooting my desire z with 2.3.3 android to CM7 2.3.7 i'm also unable to VOL UP or VOL DOWN during the call !
Also would appreciate if someone helps.

Did you do a full wipe before flashing the ROM? Not wiping when moving between ROMs can cause a lot of random bugs.
yeah, i did!
although i used Clockwork
Now i've been reading that there are better recoveries for whipping stuff..
I use same Radio 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M. And i am able to install all roms without issues. BUT! Yesterday i updated to latest US MIUI and i lost sound in phone speaker and MIC. After plugging in headphones i was able to hear from headphones, and use internal phone mic. Try to flash some clean rom like virtuous g-lite or sense 2.0.0. Or if u want to use CM, try to flash other kernel.
There is an issue with a lot of Android devices where the OS thinks the headphone is being plugged in and unplugged on its own.
I have rooted 4.0.4 AOKP and it still occured.

No Sound after HeadPhone Use

Here is my problem
The problem is that after using my Nexus with headphones, there is no sound through the built-in speaker after unplugging the headphones. Using headphones again does work. Essentially the Droid is stuck in Headphone mode. So the nexus always thinks during a phone call im in headphone mode.
A user TRTG from DF.net made an app called audiotoggle. It dont work as good as I thought it would.
My question is how do you fix this? I asked in the rom section of the rom in using with no answers. Does anyone know what could be wrong? How to fix this?
Have you tried a reboot?

Yes I did a reboot. Also wiped cache and delvik to see if that would help. I have to use audiotoggle to get it to work but its not 100% working. It will allow me to make a call but the sensor dont work so I hit buttons while on the phone. Plus I have to enable the app before making a call or else I have to use speaker phone.
The same thing happened to me. The only thing I could think of was that the popping sound that I would hear every time I rebooted into recovery had blown out the speaker. I had to take it to Verizon and get a new one (again). Since it was my second return they could only send me a certified "like new" device. Now the volume rocker is loose and my battery smells.

I was hoping it was just a rom thing. Im trying one more thing before getting a replacement.
Bump
Any luck on this? I have the same problem on my Nexus S. Sound seems to be restored only after wiping data, but that's not exactly what I want to do every time I use headphones.
Download android assistant. Go into the settings and go to the volume. If the system volume is all the way down that's your problem. Raise the slider to Max and thank me
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus
99% likely it's a hardware problem. My second warranty replacement had this exact problem, and if I pulled up logcat, I could see it firing HEADSET_PLUGGED events constantly (going from plugged to unplugged). It's not worth fighting for a fix if you're eligible for a replacement, in my opinion -- not that I didn't try it myself.
If you are using Magisk and Lineageos, remove/disable "Audio FX" application which comes with Lineageos.
I used NoBloat Free, since Audio Fx is in system.

Only works when on speaker phone

Hello,
My phone is running the darthstalker rom. For a few weeks now when I talk on it, I have to put it on speaker phone or no one can hear me talk.
I thought maybe some app screwed it up so I went into recovery, deleted cache and user data, deleted all apps and restarted with the darthstalker. I had to enter my gmail again and set it up. Then I made a call and the same thing happened.
What could be wrong with this phone? I am about to try a different rom but I am now thinking the mic is messed up. Is the mic the same for the speaker phone as normal conversation?
Does anyone now how I can fix this phone? I wanted to put it on ebay since I could use the money but I would like to fix this problem so I can get maximum $ from it. It is in mint condition otherwise.

First try to figure out if it is a h/w or s/w problem. Try different ROM, voice/call recording app. If that doesn't fix, means it is a hardware problem.
Get it replaced if under warranty. Otherwise, it may be a mic problem.
When on speakerphone, the phone actually uses another microphone. this may be a problem with your call mic. Does it give no sound at all? or is it just too low? Check this link: http://blog.brokenlcds.com/samsung-galaxy-note-mic-problem/
This is for note 2, but the idea is same. It may require cleaning or replacing.
Now, I can't say about replacing it on the Note 3, but n my HTC one x+, I fixed it myself. $8 microphone and capacitive touch strip, very easy DIY fix. I've heard Samsung is simpler (can't say for sure, never tried it on Samsung).
There should be a tiny hole at the bottom to the left or right of the charging port. That`s where the mic listens from, so it may just be clogged with dirt. Carefully poke a needle inside the hole and it should work!
