I went ahead and purchased the clingo car mount
http://www.clingo.com/car-mounts/universal-hands-free-mount/
for $25 shipped off of eBay (find it yourself) after it was mentioned by a member on XDA. It looked cool to me and since I didn't enjoy my Soundgate M2 mount to much I decided to give it a try.
I must say that I am very happy with the purchase. It works flawlessly with my EVO. I have tried it with two different cased, one was a regular tpu style and then with this case http://www.amazon.com/High-Quality-...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1281911569&sr=8-1\
I'm not sure what material its made from but it is comparable to leather.
Both cases worked perfectly. They stuck to the Clingo adhesive without any problems and most importantly, they stayed there. A naked EVO will work just as well.
I have had the mount only for a couple days, but so far I have driven relatively long distances without no issues whats-so-ever. I live in houston tx btw, it's 5:35 rite now and 97* degrees outside, just to give you an idea of my environment.
The adhesive on the clingo does not seem to be losing its stickiness at all after my first couple days. I found this on clingos website.
http://www.clingo.com/articles/technology
If those are true facts then you can expect this baby to last a while...
Installation was extremely easy. I have mine attached to my windshield and it sticks to it like a champ. There is an optional attachment that allows you to stick it to your car dash board which works very well also.
overall I HIGHLY recommend this product if your looking for a decent car mount and in all honestly if I was to buy a home dock for the EVO I would get another clingo. It's so simple yet practical.
I know with all these knew docks coming out from htc/sprint/eBay/wireforless nobody really considered getting a Clingo product, but you can find them for relatively cheap off of eBay and it seems like it would look nice in an office/home environment. talking about this btw http://www.clingo.com/home-and-office/universal-podium
this seems pretty neat also, might scoop it up once I get some extra cash.
http://www.clingo.com/home-and-office/parabolic-sound-sphere
I dont see a need to spend 50+ on a dock just because it charges your phone. You can get a couple spare batteries, a car charger, home charger, usb cable and screen protectors for under 20 off of eBay. That matched with a Clingo product is all I need.
P.S - I suck at writing reviews. This is just my attempt to help some fellow xda members make a decision on an accessory for there phone. If your coming here to hate on my grammar and the way I type (which i have seen A LOT of lately on XDA. Must be the summer heat or something) then troll on my friend.
Oh yeah! and if you guys want a video of the mount just let me know. Only problem is my EVO is my video recorder, but I can still go ahead and try it if ya'll want.
Thanks for the review! I was actually just on their website before I came across your post. (Its actually still open in another window lol.) Can you comment on the amount of weight it can support based on its area? I know some of the pads for the phone were pretty big, but other were smaller circles. Do you think the smaller ones would be able to support our Evos?
"It’s pretty simple, really. Clingo holds your phone. It doesn’t matter if it is a BlackBerry, iPhone, Droid, Samsung, or whatever. Whether in your car, at the office, at home, or wherever - Clingo holds it."
That's a statement from the clingo website. That is for all there products except for the little necklaces which are designed specifically for iPod nanos. So according to them any of there products should be able to support any mobile device, including our EVOs.
From my experience, which is still limited, it really doesn't seem like too much surface area is necessary to grip the phone. Also, all the "Universal Products" seem to have the same surface area and shape. They only have two products that I can see with smaller surface area. One is the nano necklace and the other is the parabolic sounds sphere....
However, I remember somebody posting something about there evos slipping a little bit while using the clingo car mount and an innocase. Not sure how accurate that is though.

He stated the arm came down a bit, the phone itself stayed put on the holder, but the entire assembly (ball joint) rotated down a bit.
ahh...well in his case all he had to do was adjust the knob and tighten it, which is easily done.
Thanks for clarifying that.

I believe you guys are referring to my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7667216&postcount=22
When using the mount with my Evo and Innocase Active Limited Edition, problems arose between the pad and the ball joint at the end of the arm (where you can adjust the pads' viewing angle). The arm wasn't moving at all since it was as tight as I could get it to be. While driving, the added weight of the case was causing the pad to move downward. It felt like it was much easier to move the pad around the ball joint when the case was in use. I tried every which way to get the phone to sit still but it continuously moved down, to the point where I couldn't view the screen very well at all.
It doesn't really bother me, though, since the mount works perfectly on a naked Evo. Once I removed the case, the pad was not moving whatsoever and the connection between it and the jointed ball seemed much stiffer.
I just ordered the parabolic sound sphere... gonna play around with that before i pull the trigger on a car mount

ohh, ok...maybe the innocase just adds a little to much weight for it to manage.... Have you tried cleaning the Clingo and trying it again?

Let me know how that goes. I'm considering buying it, but I want to know if it actually amplifies sound at all be I go for it.

Yeah, several times. My problem isn't with the stickiness from the green area of the pad, it's with the back where it connects to the ball joint. With or without the case, the phone doesn't slide or fall off the sticky part of the pad at all. But when I use the case, the pads' construction moves down as if it's sliding from the ball joint due to too much weight.
Kind of hard to explain clearly. The phone sticks to the pad perfectly in any scenario, though. I just think the Evo + Innocase Active is too heavy for this mount unless some slight modding is done. Nevertheless, I'm content with using the phone with no case when used with the mount. Works just fine then.

Oh I have absolutely no doubt that it will amplify sound, im just not sure how much louder it will make things... or if its going to have any strange/****ty frequency response

In other words it goes from this | to this /
Take a black zip tie, wrap it around the back where the ball goes into the socket and cinch it down some, may be just what you need to add that bit of extra grip.
Great review.. I have the car dock, the tethering pad and the sound sphere on the way.. should be here today.
Well, all my stuff showed up. The parabolic sphere is pretty cool. It does increase the volume somewhat and maybe add a little reverb to the noise. The tethering pad is okay as well.
The car dock, however, sucks. It would probably be great on a lighter phone. So far my Evo has fallen off 3 times and seems to slide around on the pad. Pretty disappointing.. looks like my quest for a good car dock will continue.
Well, Ive done everything I could do to make the car mount work and it just wont. The design is poor and it reflects in the performance of the dock. My dock will not stay where I put it, instead sagging down and eventually dropping the phone. Ive tried everything short of wire tieing it in place (Yay for ghetto engineering) and I cant make it stay. Ive tried zip tie around the neck of the mount, stuffing tape into the ball and socket, etc.. nothing helps. Guess this one is going to end up in the trash pile too along with every other Evo mount Ive bought.
If you'd point out the failing was in the positioning of the mount, and not the mount's ability to hold the phone on its sticky pad, you might have a good chance of selling it here for not much less than you paid for it.

Well, its not just that. The Evo IMO doesnt stick to the pad very well. Maybe its the oil from my hands but I had to put a plastic case on the phone just to get it to stick. For a Nexus one or something, it probably would be great. The Evo is just too much of a beast for this mount.
On a side note, I emailed Clingo about calling me regarding this mount. Its been 2 days and no call back. Another strike against Clingo.
The rattle and shake of my universal gooseneck holder has been driving me crazy since day one, and I've been looking for another option. After watching the clingo demo video with the guy flying over speed bumps I decided to give it a try.
I've been using it in my car for a week now, and am very happy with it. Right out of the box it held my EVO (in the innocase active) no matter how hard I shook it. The grip of the pad is amazing.
As others reported, the size/weight of the EVO caused it to droop forward. If I turned the pad sideways it stayed up better, but a small black zip tie around the socket completely fixed the drooping. I figure putting a small piece of rubber band into the socket should also do the trick while still allowing repositioning.
The result has been stunning. Even over big potholes and grooved highway pavement the clingo has kept my phone still. It is soooo much easier to read without the phone shaking.
Now to see how the cling pad holds up to new england winter.

great to here its worked out well for you. I've had mine for a while and am still loving it, however, i'd like to try out the rubberband trick that you are speaking of... What exactly did you do? How big was the rubber band?
Mines has held up to texas weather 100+ with my car out in the heat, so hopefully it can handle the cold also.

I have not used the rubber band trick on my Clingo, as the zip tie stopped the droop, but I've done it with similar ball joints. You should be able to find a small bag of rubber bands at your local office supply big box. One about 1/4" wide should do with the clingo. Just cut a piece out of the band and put it into the socket as close to on-center as you can. Line up the ball on the clingo's arm so that the mount pad will be close to the angle you want it, and snap the pieces back together. The rubber will provide grip, and provide enough to stop any drooping while still allowing you to reposition and swivel the mount head.

has anyone purchased a decent car mount for the vibrant? I'm all over the web looking for one that I certainly wouldn't regret in buying. So, please post links, opinions, and maybe pics. thank you

The Verizon Fascinate is coming out this week and the press release says there will be a mount. I'm going to take my phone by a Verizon store and see if they have one they'll open and let me check fit.
Car Dock – Attachable to the windshield or dashboard, the car dock displays turn-by-turn GPS navigation instructions, rotates freely between landscape and portrait modes, and features a preloaded Samsung “Car Home” application, giving customers access to everything the “Desk Home” app can do while on the go. The car dock is available for $39.99.

Due to the similar size and shape, I'm betting most generic ipod touch/iphone mounts out there will fit. Planning on checking walmarts offerings and maybe bestbuy sometime this week.
I just bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150481766101&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I think its great if you're not using a case, snaps right it and doesn't move, and the mount seems nice and firm. The holes for the speakerphone and camera are all in the right places so its good to go.
Only complaint i have is the top snap portion is a little long and gets caught in the seam between the front and back cover if you're not careful. I snipped a tiny bit off the end of it to blunt the end a little bit, and am careful to pull the snap back when i slide the phone in, and its nice.
There are is a thread in here as well and/or the i9000 accessories forum that discusses a few options if you are using a case.

And on that note, i called my corp Verizon rep and ordered one - free overnight shipping. Part# is "SAMI500MNT"
SHould be here tomorrow @ 3:30'ish, that's when Mr. Fedex shows up.
I'll post details and pics if it's legit and ends up workin on the Vibrant.
(had to edit quote as i'm too new to post links)
Much to my dismay, not only is the micro-USB connector lower on the Fascinate than on the Vibrant, rendering the dock useless unless you remove the Vibrant's battery cover & insert at an angle, but the phone doesn't seem to recognize the usb connection. Although it does give you the audible signal that it's been plugged in - the charging indicator disappears immediately and audio is not passed through the 3.5mm jack at the back of the dock.
The overall design of the car dock is very nice and I can only hope TMO will bring something along these lines for the Vibrant.
Here are some pics of the car dock for the Fascinate, for those who happened to be curious.

Since the Galaxy is light in weight and came with 2 back covers, I did a DIY with velcro. I lined it up to my center dash (horizontally), hooked up the AUX and charger and BAM...only 5 bucks! I now have Google NAV/traffic and .MP4s at my finger tips.

Just got this mount today and well.......it's a very tight fit. This is perfect for anything smaller than the Vibrant size, otherwise it's a tight fit or won't fit at all. I won't recommend it if you need a mount where you can move the phone in and out of the mount quickly, otherwise, it should do well.
I use this one:
http://www.meritline.com/car-holder...-windshield-with-suction-mount---p-54018.aspx
With my Vibrant. Works great. You've got to be careful with the clip though to make sure you don't release it too soon it it'll snag between the battery cover and phone.
Overall very nice & doesn't obscure the phone at all & the phone can rotate 360 degrees with almost no effort (though it hasn't happened accidentally or when I've hit a bump or anything).
Anyone ever heard of proclipusa.com? They are a bit expensive but I had it for my iPhone in my 06 acura TL and it was awesome! Haven't ordered for the vibrant yet but am going to soon.

So it's time to find a car mount for the SGS2.
For the HD2 I used an air vent mount (this). I don't like the windscreen suction mounts (just my preference, even though they tend to be more flexible in terms of positioning the device), and the positioning of the air vent mount is almost perfect in my car. The only thing that is a little annoying is that the fixed one obviously don't allow any turning at all, which can be annoying when it's sunny as I'd prefer to have the screen point more directly at me.
Therefore I'm looking for an air vent mount that has some sort of swivel included - basically something similar to this for, or perhaps something more generic like this or this.
Has anyone used any of these (or the windscreen suction mount equivalents) from either Ultimate Addons or Arkon? How well made and durable are they? How well do they hold their position?
Are there other ones I've missed that I should consider?
Thanks in advance for any input!
I'm looking for the same thing, preferably specific to the S2 (much better to slip it into a custom holder, rather than placing it in a generic one then tighten the grips etc).
Something like this (no link allowed.. see gripmount on mobilefun) on the air vent would be great.
I also like vent holders! I just buy a cheap generic one and modify it to fit my needs.
Obviously this involves taking apart my vent and drilling holes in the phone holder, put you get just the thing you need! Plus its also wayyyy more stable as you use cable ties to get it solidly in place.
The mounts that usually come with the vent holder are flimsy and usually end up falling off!
The gripmount on mobilefun looks great, but I can't see how it manages to fit the SGS2 both with and without a case! I'm using a silicone skin with mine and would rather have something that will work without me having to take it on and off. Is the mount slightly bendy so the phone just clips in? Anyone got any experience of these?
I've decided to just hold fire until the official Samsung mount comes out - it looks pretty good on their website and I can order the desktop dock at the same time.
Breffo multi-fuctional Car-dock/Cradle
I saw this product last year and thought this might be interesting?! My apologies for not yet have those for review, didn't need it yet. But when i have a car this i would definitely buy.
The brand is Breffo and the product is Spiderpodium, there website is www.breffo.com
Interesting idea . . . on fleabay for £13 (item 200603319280)
Might pick one up and see how it works as a vent holder . . .
Edit: The reviews are great, so ordered a black one off ebay. There are white ones for just £8 on Amazon if you're not fussed about colour! Will return and let y'all know how well it works . . .
Spiderpodium looks superb, definitely getting one of those. One of the ebay sellers is only around the corner from me, so I've contacted to ask if I can collect. Will report back once I've got hold of one.
I've made my own:
robbiekhan that looks awesome, good work. How much would you charge to make more had to ask lol
It's simple case (hah!!) of sticking and cutting a few bits together really so i couldn't charge to do such a thing as you'd be much better off doing it lol, plus it's fun, something you've made and it can be a conversation piece

I'm going to pick up a Griffin Windowseat I think, as I need something compatible with other phones too.
I have got one one the magic mounts (aka Dash Genie), but due to the textured back the SGS2 doesn't stick
If you wanted universal vent mount, have a look at this by Herbert Richter. If you however want a device specific, and if you want a small project, than I see that Brodit holder for Samsung Galaxy S II seems to be listed, you can covert this into a vent mount or windscreen suction mount using this adaptor plate.
Nice - thanks. For now I decided to take a punt on the £8 white Spiderpodium for its uniqueness - when it arrives I'll see how well made and durable it is, and if that doesn't work out I think a custom/self-made solution might well be the way to go.

I wonder if this will work if you attatch it to the windshield...
On the left of the SGS2 there are the volume buttons. And the miniholder, is really, ehhhh, mini... So I think the phone will hit the window, or if you place it in the holder in a way the phone does not hit the window the volume buttons will be pressed all the time...
As the official dock is way too expensive imo, I thought I'd start a thread where people can post their unofficial car docks they bought and the experiences they made.
So far I came across two docks, the [CAR] Passive holder from Brodit (2nd pic)
and one I found on ebay, sent from Hong Kong (pic below): Windscreen Car mount small (1st pic with text "one X")
This one also can be bought with various different mounting options. I am not sure how easy it will be to dock and undock the phone in the mount though, looks rather tight.
I think I will wait some more days / weeks before I'll buy something.
Any other car kits you guys found?
2nd looks pretty decent for a cheap mount

the problem is it's being sent from HKG, if customs here decide to have a look at it I end up paying CHF 35.- (double the amount that thing costs) customs service fee, I almost might as well buy an official one
I would get this one, but I need a seller here in Europe.
Hey this one is low cost and will do the job:
ebay swivel one x holder
I used ot use it with my old DHD which now feels so ridiculously heavy!
You can mount it witht he provided suction that holds well enough.
Or if you buy some 3m automotive grade double sided tape
You can mount it on other places that don't have a smooth glass finish.
I had it stuck on plastic trim near the driver door/window.
The surface was mildly bumpy but that 3m held on well until the day I removed it.
Popping the phone in and out, and rotating it with force didn't budge it!
Out of curiosity I also purchased this one:
Those protruding clips can probably come off easily.
Some 3m on that flat surface and it will probably stick anywhere.
I like this one because it sticks out and gives a greater range of movement / angle.
Secured near the door you can have your arm rested on the seal and access the phone easily.
Unlike the official (or any other suction windscreen mounted one) which forces you to lean towards it awkwardly.

How easily can you mount and demount the phone in this one?
I am also looking into getting this one, I also already have the cradle, would you mind taking a pic without the phone in it for me to see if it would fit for my cradle (with my old mount I could simply take away the "case" which held the phone, was secured with 4 rectangular holes in roughly 2.5 cm distance to each other)?

Great find, thanks!
I will have to wait for it to pop up in Europe, if I buy from HKG I risk having to show it to customs which will cost me too much to justify...
and another one, shipping again from China though :
Windscreen Sunction Mount Car Holder For HTC One X S720e / HTC Endeavor
using this1 ( swivel one) with my NS at the moment and will use it with my new One X in two days once it arrive
Cheap and do the job, no need to change all the time you change phone so good. Before I use to buy a car holder for each phone I had and than sold it with but after I bought this no need as it hold all the phones very well

This one has a hole for the camera and possibly can be used a support for shooting a video from the dashboard.
Just a thought.

Just ordered one on amazon myself.
Your comment about not having to change the holder all the time convinced me and also the minimalistic design / small size.

It can definitely be used for that (did it with my HD2 myself), but the swivel one will also not cover the camera lense.
Just don't film yourself doing anything stupid...

Hey thanks for finding that.
This one here is pretty much spot on to what I been looking for:
The way them brackets expand in their demo video looks like it will hold a phone even if it's in a tpu case.
They ship outside of US too but the best part is that they allow you to use your own fedex/ups account.
This is the one I purchased.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160777560050?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I really like the way the suction on the windscreen works. Some of these other car mounts are horrible, they fall off after a few minutes, hours ect...
The fit of the HTC One X on the bracket is very tight, won't ever fall off.
Happy with this one.
Btw this one arrived... 6 days transit, not bad for HK.
The item is not the best though.
The neck is more stiff then my first erection when I discovered p0rn. Hard to bend.
The phone sits well tight in the bracket but putting it in feels like I'm going to damage the phone.
Not the best. Ebay didn't deliver.. usually they only have quality true? lol
Anyway, I will purchase that one from Arkon. Looks decent and can cater to multiple phones.
I've just found the following item on eBay which may be of interest to UK HOX owners:
[Unfortunately I can't post a link as I haven't posted more than 8 times on this forum]
Search eBay for item no: 360454478820
£5.95 free postage within 2-3 working days.
Looks to be the same item/design as the on in the OP
I'll be placing my order today and will post again with feedback hopefully by the end of the week
not bad this is, use to have one of these for my old HTC HD2
only problem is when you change your phone for something different, new than you have to sell this with the phone and buy a new one again.
So I've decide to go for some universal accessories as I was tired of changing the holders, dockings, chargers all the time. Especially in car access. as I always ended with reinstalling cabels, holders, etc..
But good solution for someone who don't mind to change or who's not changing phones often

Could you check the back of the phone holder itself, I ordered one just like yours and it has 'G21' stamped on the back. (G21 is the Sensation XL)
I can manage to get the phone in, but the fit is so tight I'm scared the screen will crack when I hit the first bump in the road...

Yeah, it'll definitely fit with a TPU case as long as it's not super thick.
In search of a vehicle dock that will accommodate the size of the Galaxy S III with a case.
Preferably one that fits in the heating/AC vents, or mounts on the front of your dashboard and not on top of the dashboard. I guess one without the suction cup.
Going to be mainly used for Navigation.
Any suggestions?

That looks really cool. Does it go it and out of the CD player easily? Do you just leave it there or is it easy enough to quickly plug in when you want?
Does it still "see" the satellites well enough from the lower position in the car?
I assume you can confirm the GS3 fits well in it even though it says it's for iphone?
Anyone know of other CD mounts to compare to?
Amazon review for this one you got are generally very good.

Best car holder I've ever had!
Don't know if people just don't know about these or just don't like them. I got mine back in February and used it on my old E4GT and now the S3, I absolutly love it! The key is, for me anyways, getting a TPU case( always use TPU so no biggie there ) take an exacto knife and cut a perfect sized cut out for the tiny magnet. If you do it correctly the looks isn't bad at all( use the small magnet, works fine for me ) and more importantly it wont 'wobble' on the table, lays flat. Sorry don't have any pics of my old setup and haven't cut out my new one yet. Also, nice that we have replaceable back covers in case you're worried about it marring up the back if you want to remove it later.
As far as construction quality, magnet hold strenght both are superb, haven't hadd one inceidentl fall off the holder. Also magent doesn't seem to interfer with wifi or cell at all. NFC I haven't tested yet, but my suggestion would be to mount it towards the top side of the case away from the battery( like were the carrier logo is on the back )
Anyways just my 2 cents, check out youtube they have a couple good reviews of it on there.

I can't post pics/links but I followed Lifehacker's guide to making a car mount out of office supplies (site should be easy to find with that information). It works surprisingly well, even with the size of the S3 and the fact that my vehicle's vents aren't perfectly suited for the application. I thought it'd be kind of ghetto but it's hidden while in use and easy to remove and stash away when not in use.
I'll make a thread with pics once I have enough posts.

Take your time and look around. There's plenty of car mounts that will fit this phone with a case.
Seems like most are the suction cup kind
will work for any phone even tablets
Sorry long time forum reader but first time posting. I can't post a link but search "soundgate m2 car mount"
You can probably find them cheaper. Used my for the og dinc for 2 years. I put the disc on my case instead of the phone. But I would have no reservations to put it directly on the phone as the disc is extremely unobtrusive. Just clean the spot you want to mount the arm really well with included wipe or rubbing alcohol. The arm mounts with a 3m adhesive pad and folds almost flush when not in use. Very slick. Put the discs on anything you want to dock to the arm. I forget how much weight it can handle but I saw a tablet being used as well. Sorry tried to upload pictures and after an afternoon of searching the forums on how to do it, i still cant get it. Just google "soundgate m2 car mount" you wont be dissapointed.
I have this one. I love it. Works with any case, holds tight. I have mine in the vents. http://www.breffo.com/collections/spiderpodium

you just kinda put it in the vents, and then bend it down. works great! It really stays put too. Check out the gallery section on the site, there are other pics of it in the vents. Got one for a friend and he loves it. It really does hold tight in the vent, even more so then ones designed for the vent. Easy to take out too

It goes in very easy. It only takes a few seconds to install. It holds the S III securely even with a case on it.

ProClip. It is a little more money, but well worth it. I would get the proper mount for your vehicle (vent or side mount) and the adjustable phone mount so you can use it with a case. The also make a clip so you can move the mount from car to car.
Sadly, mine was recently stolen, but they offered me a discount because of my loss.
So I created a ghetto version as a sort of joke in exchange.
