Hi i'm Drie and i wanted to introduce myself and say i find most of the information here helpful and useful. I am very interested in rooting my phone and I must say that a lot of you have some great ideal but they are not working for me. I know there are some SUPER TECHS on this sight that may want to entertain a new user by giving her a step by step manual (rooting for dummies) on how to root an HTC EVO 4g.
Ive read thread and watch lots of videos and still my phone is not rooted.... HELP
Drie
Welcome to the site; it's a great place.
From what I have found is, it is easier to do things by reading directions; I never get things done in the videos.
Oh and a big problem for a lot of people; when downloading and putting the update or bootloader zipped folders onto the phone, only name them root or update or whatever, leave out the .zip part; that messed me up and I was clueless for an hour or so.
rooting
when i say that i tried to root the phone, that means i made an attempted at it, but since i know nothing about rooting a phone every word seems foreign to me. I need instuctions from the very beginning.
Welcome to the forum.
There is a good guide HERE and another HERE.
The first one does a good job of explaining the terminology.
Hi. I'm Ed.
Just hijacking this thread to say hi too. Been browsing xda for nearly a year now using it to upgrade and root my desire. Just found out I need 10 posts before I can ask technical questions. Oh well, 9 to go.
Thanks for all the sound advice I've found on here. And it shows its a decent forum if I haven't needed to ask a question in nearly a year.

So, I'm not the only one trying to build my post level so I can ask stuff?

Hey guys!
Can anyone use this thread to get post count up so we can ask in the dev sections?
I am fairly new, been lurking around for a month or two now.
I have an Evo, rooted, with Mik-froyo Rom v4.5 beta 5

so asking in the Q&A we don't get dev help? or do ya'll mean just to ask about ROM's specifically?
I have to agree with quite a few of you here - I read threads here for about 2 to 3 weeks before ever signing up - finally I had to lol (got soo many questions) - also went to post in the development section and found out I couldn't post there - though I can't remember why I was going to post there first - maybe that was where one of the instruction threads I was reading was posted
Hello and Merry Christmas,
Is there currently any downside to rooting and unlocking the LGOG?
I assume it will void warranty and is not undoable. I heard it messed up some peoples network connection?
I have best buy warranty... If i needed to take my phone in for repair would they care if rooted or not?
Thanks

Please learn and love the search section of.this wonderful site. All your questions u listed in a Thread are already answered elsewhere. Yes there are ALWAYS inherit risks when you do anything to your phone . There also awesome good things that can happen learn, read, and then if you don't understand ask a question in the place where it is already been asked if you can. I did the same.thing and someone told me.this very thing. Good luck and Merry Christmas and happy new.year. message me if u have trouble.searching. hint.....development section.

Not only did you not answer my question, but you did not even help guide me toward an answer. I'm looking around thee "dev section" (which one? there are two?) and I don't see answers to my questions. The search function on this site is horrible.
The purpose of the Q&A section is to ask questions and receive answers.
What is your problem?
BTW: I ended up rooting/unlocking and it was very simple. I do not think there is any downside at this time.
When or where can I get the CyanogenMod 10.1 for the Sprint SIII
Go to get.cm
You might want to search before asking next time. A five seconds Google search does wonders.

@Ztrewa I did Google first, Google didn't find it. I found the CyanogenMod link from another website. Even the XDA search here didn't find the thread.
@daniel4653, What was the reason for your message? Useless
@livito, A very big thanks and as I said at the top, I did find it off another website after an hour of searching
@supersaeed your comment just as useless and unwarranted instead of helpful
@kennyglass123 Moderator, look at the top of the post. This is posted in the correct place. Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III> Sprint Galaxy S III Q&A > [Q] CyanogenMod 10.1 for Sprint SIII
Truly, I thought I was on a supportive site for moding my phone but, only one out of 5 posts was supportive and the other's just worthless hate, and aggitation. And as a moderator to post a problem with a post when there wasn't one?
I may be a junior member here but, I have probably been using computers and electronics before most you were out of diapers. Modding phone's is still new to me as I haven't had the urge to brick my only personal means of communication I need while I am on the road and don't consider $ as something I just throw out the window (even though I have 2 SIII's I only paid $99 for). I research before I jump and if I'm not sure, I ask a question and expect a courteous answer, not gruff from rude, impolite, inconsiderate, discourteous, bad-mannered, people.
if instead of clicking GS3 general or whatever u did had u clicked on GS3 development you would've seen it right there at the top
the moderator obviously moved your thread to Q&A
my post was useful..now maybe you'll try a little urself before asking super obvious questions
also, nobody cares how old you are

My post wasn't useless you didn't search at all that's why I was expressing myself by saying oh my. And that means you didn't read the rules if you posted in wrong section and you should search before you post.

I bought a phone for my mom for christmas and when I tried to activate it the sprint rep told me that the the phone is still activated on another account. So now Im trying to sell it for someone who needs it for Metro or Boost. But people are charging $60+ to flash it. Now , Im already going to lose money , I just dont want to lose more by flashing it for $60. Anyone know how to flash it or if theres anything I can still do to this phone to activate it on Sprint.

#1 there is a lot of info in the general section if you search. How-To's and such.
#2 this is the dev section. Please ask/PM a mod to move it into the Q&A. *beat me to it*

How about this guy's guide?...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073003
just youtube qbking77, all answers you need should be there.
Post it on Craigslist without flashing to metro. I'm sure someone that can flash it themselves might want it. Some retail stores, whom flash to metro, also buy phones.

That's why you don't buy phones from crack heads.

Google Chris41g Boost Epic 4G and you'll find a guide to Boost.
Works on this phone and will work for other carriers as well if you know the missing pieces.
I have the Droid DNA but merely a year and a half in to it I've lost OS upgrade support from Verizon and HTC. If I upgrade to the One M8
1. Is it a good phone?
2. Will the same thing happen to the One that happened to DNA in only a year?
3. Is there root available?
Thanks in advance
Dude sorry to bash you and say this...but these questions are the most stupid someone ever asked...read through these threads/forum here and you see there is root otherwise there wouldn't be any Roms and kernels and whatever and if you would really read more about HTC news etc you would see this phone is superior and the update support will be 24 month or so active...so please never ask again such questions lol
And post questions in the Q&A section....not the general. What do you think Q&A stands for ?
1: do you think its a good phone
2: ask HTC
3: obviously....if you would have taken the time to check the many threads that cover root questions......
Thread moved to Q&A and Closed
All the answers you'll need are found above and would've easily been found if you'd even only had a quick look through the M8 forum.
Besides, asking a bunch of people who already have this phone whether you should buy this phone is pretty much guaranteeing you one response.
I'll close this as the answers are already here and because pesky trolls love threads like this and I'd rather not use too much troll repellent
