I rooted my phone using the wiki guide for Cyanogenmod, but now tried to return to stock and seem to be having problems.
Using ROM Manager, I reverted back to my backup, however I can't seem to get any updates. No notifications of an available update, and manually checking for one says my phone is up to date.
Before rooting I had downgraded so I know I'm not at the latest version.
I tried unrooting my phone by following a video saying to remove these files with a file manager :
system/bin/su
/system/binx/su
/system/app/superuser.apk (something like that)
There was no su file in /system/binx
Is there an easy way to just revert to factory settings, no root, and working updates?
Thanks in advance.
you can try flashing the proper ruu via hboot. why not just flash a new rom alltogether? I mean you rooted your phone, are you not after superuser function? a better os? there are custom roms very similar to stock to pick from and also many that are far superior, either way...

Flashed new rom
Hi
I was indeed looking for superuser access, but was now giving the phone away to a family member who didn't have interest in anything special.
I also had trouble rooting it again after I deleted the files, but got it working after simply pushing the files back on, so I flashed the MIUI Rom which looks great and user friendly.

ummm.. My phone said it needed to update, I said, ok, it installed restarted and now there is a little green guy with a triangle and an explanation mark in the middle of the triangle..
I just rooted my phone about a week ago, Sprint said it needed to update.. Am I to never update my phone? Its a stock rooted phone.. But now I think its bricked..
Should I take the battery out and try to reboot?
ok... I just took the battery out and restarted the phone.. Came back up.. after sitting idle for about 10 seconds, the message came up again and asked if I wanted to update to 3.xxxxxx.xxx.xxxx.x or whatever it is.. Do I want to try to install this update? Whats the deal with stock rooted phones? can we upgrade or no?
Thanks guys!
Are you rooted?
If Yes: Do you want to stay rooted?
If you're stock, unrooted, I would update. 3.29 is quite a bit better from a variety of perspectives. You can always root again in the future.

I just rooted my brand new phone 3 days ago, I bought it 4 days ago..
1.Are you saying I cannot upgrade it because of this?
2.Should I unroot the phone and get the upgrade? what is it exactly?
3.I did the 1 click root option and it worked fine, how would I reverse this?
If you update OTA you will lose root. If you wish to keep your root then you need to flash a rooted ROM.
As far of "Stock rooted roms" there are basically two kinds
DeOdex roms let you flash themes, other customizations
DeOdex 3.29
Odex roms are basically as close to the stock rom as possible (just rooted)
Odex 3.29
Or you can flash Fresh, Baked Snack or any number of roms in the Development section...
I dont get it.. Isn't everyone in my position?? This update just came out today right?
I know so many people that just have a rooted phone, no kitchens or roms or anything else.. Just a stock rooted phone..
So now this update comes out and I am forced to get some premade rom?
Is there a way I can just unroot my phone.. Get the update and reroot the same way I just did?
Thanks
Your not forced to install it. If your stock you can update and re root or you can find the update zip and flash through recovery.

I am such a newbie with Android, everything you just said is jibirish to me..
Here is what I am thinking, maybe it might help, lol
I am not forced to update, but don't I want to? Most updates fix things or improve things..
I am stock other then I rooted the phone 3 days ago.
What in the world is an update zip? and what is flashing through recovery?
I have no recovery programs installed on either the phone or the computer..
Im so lostl... LOL
So you haven't installed? If you do install your just going to have to root again I believe. How did you root the first time?
Sent from my Evo CM6
no, you are not even close to bricked, and yes, it can be fixed
wow guys cant you give a newb some help..... i'm here for you man. the froyo update was released two days after i rooted. i was pissed. but know, i am newb no longer, and i share my knowledge with you. ok, so baisically, you have two options:
option 1 is to unroot, do the update, and reroot the updated version. this is the long way that pretty much puts you back at square 1 and will delete all your data. i would not reccomend this.
option 2 is your first lesson in using root: FLASHING ROMS!!!hahahaha this will be fun..
so baisically, you need to make the phone think it is being manually updated using a built-in tool called recovery mode. the stock recovery mode (red !) has protection and signature verification that makes it so you can only update actuall htc stuff. the thing is, there is no protection stopping us from changing the recovery mode... now do you see where i am going? the little bit of recovery protection there was you removed by rooting. so first, download the rom of your choise from the dev section. most newer ones are 3.29.xxx.xx.xx. watever, so you are good. you can always just download the stock one from the dev section. make sure you back up everything with titanium backup. then, there are two ways to flash this rom:
easy: run unrevoked (www.unrevoked.com) to install a custom recvoery and remove factory system partition security (nand protection). then, boot into recovery by powering off phone and then holding power and volume down at the same time. finally, wipe data/cache/dalvic and then flash your rom.
hard: download the three attached files. install the android sdk and adb drivers. then, push flash_image to data/local/ and both amonra.img and mtd-eng.img to /sdcard/. then do..
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/flash_image
cd /data/local/
./flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
./flash_image recovery /sdcard/amonra.img
then, put rom of your choise on sdcard, and boot into recovery using either the way above or the command
adb reboot recovery
wipe all three things and flash rom.
if ANYTHING here is over your head. please pm me. don't just reply to my post because then i will not help you. i hope you do this successfully. seriously, ANYTHING, just beam me a pm.

Hey guys,
I've got the latest update OTA ready to install, but since my device is rooted I'm wondering what do I do?
I've read threads stating to just update and re root it and others say it won't go through and I'd have to disable signatures in clockwork recovery !
hence I'm confused, please help
Cheers
Jackie
Its not safe to perform official ota updates on rooted devices.
Most of the time nothing happens, you just lose root. But anything could happen from losing your custom recovery to a non booting device, which is known to happen.
If you want updated software on your phone install a custom rom.

same situation, my question is can i apply this RUU from PC, and what will happen exactly? Lose root, data?
i found this RUU RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
you can apply that RUU but you will lose root and all of your data so back everything up beforehand.
you may also need a Goldcard depending on whether your phone was unbranded from new or not.

I know about the Goldcard. Any idea on how to do a backup, i have read about using Titanium but i found it confusing. Little help would be useful
yeah, just use Titanium and back up all user apps as a batch process.
Backuo/Restore at the top of the initial screen.
Menu button and choose Batch
Then Backup all user apps.
you can then restore them after you've flashed the RUU.
also, make sure your contacts are backed up (probably by Google / Gmail).

OK, but there is an option all apps and data. what is data? is it app data?
Just back up user apps.
You don't want to restore any system data as you are changing roms.
Also, make sure you do a nand backup to go back to if needed.

So there is still no way to just update by update.zip?
I dont want to reflash my whole phone, I got everything backed up propper
but I find it crap because its just a very small update.
Just ignore the update then, if your phone is working fine

hmm an official update from htc, great. but if you are rooted and have tried a custom rom or even many such as me, then you dont want to loose that ability to flash great custom roms, just because htc released an update.
i am not sure, but i think that some users just unrevoked (rooted) their devices, but havent installed any custom roms and dont have the joy of it. i never want go to back to original rom. my future updates would be out of a custom rom. great forum here, love it
I just use the stock rom because i'm happy with it.
I rooted my phone because some apps wont work without it. I would try a custom rom but I still remember my HD2 and all the reconfigging I had to do.
Can you flash custom roms without reconfiguring everything?
Like.. when I flashed the last update.zip (405.2) I just installed it and I could start using my phone right away after the update. thats how I like it, but im not sure (more unsure) that this will work the same when I use a custom rom right?

so you installed the latest update.zip on a rooted device? and did not loose your root functionality?
I'm willing to reroot my phone, I just wanna know if a rooted device when update could mess up !?
I wanna try custom ROMs sadly I can't due to the rebooting issue, will be sending in for repair soon this week !

Rooting your device voids your warranty just as much as flashing a custom rom would. Either way would have to use the stock ruu before you send if back so it makes no difference if your stock rooted or have a custom rom.

Hi,
So there seem to be quite a few tools and methods out there with which you can root your phone, but what if I really only want to root it and nothing else; my only goal is to use apps that require root access.
I've got Android 4.1.1, but I suppose it shouldn't matter that much. Will I be able to update to a newer version with root access though?
Forgot to add:
What will I need to back up and how do I transfer my settings and contacts? I don't care much for lost apps since I don't have many.
Unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery. After that you make a nandroid backup and then install the superuser root script to give root acces in the rom.
Flash back the stock recovery and you are able to receive and install official ota's.
Is this all possible with this tool?
Now I don't want to act dumb or seem inept, but could you or someone else give me a more detailed description, maybe with a link or two?
Yes you can use that tool
Did you see my edit to the first post?
>>What will I need to back up and how do I transfer my settings and contacts? I don't care much for lost apps since I don't have many.
Can you tell me why I need to flash a custom recovery? Can't I 'just' root my phone as is and then leave it like that- rooted of course?
You can use an app called carbon to make a backup. You need a custom recovery to install the super user script. A stock one is not capable if doing that. And you don't root a phone. Only its software !
With hassoons tool, how do I flash the stock ROM back on it? I can see no option in his thread...
The stock nandroid backup needs to be installed via the custom recovery. Not with hassons tool kit. You can in that case only flash back the stock boot.img from the stock backup.
Hi, I decided I wanted to go through with my plans to root the phone and already run into a problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43066305&posted=1#post43066305
Most recentpost...
EDIT: Selected Power down on the phone because I was getting impatient and paranoid and then disconnected the phone. Everything seems fine so far. I closed the console and the message "Get Token ID.." popped up and then the console reopened, apparently searching for the phone... -_-
Oh well, maybe next time. Right now I want to take a break/try something else.
Can someone tell me why Windows always trys to install new drivers even when they already are installed? Happened when I used the programm- updating drivers blabla...
I'll try again here...
Just a question:
Can I definitely receive official android/sense/hwatever ota updates but still keep the root access?
What i've gathered so far is that I need to use hassoons tool and how to guide, but only the first post.
After that I will have a rooted stock ROM with ClockworkMod recovery, right?
Then I should do a nandroid backup WITH CWM (how is this done exactly? hold volume down +power button, then recovery?)
What will be backed up with the nandroid backup? How big will this be roughly and can I/should I put it on PC to free up some space?
Regardless from this backup, I only need the recovery.img, which in my case will be MY personal backed up STOCK recovery.img,is that correct?
How do I flash my stock recovery?
Edit:
Once I have the stock recovery again, will my phone still have root access? Is everything from then on -stock- except for root access?
Guys,
I need to unroot my HOX and restore everything to stock.
I tried to delete su binaries in BIN adn XBIN folder, deleted Supeuser apk, and after I restart the phone it comes back and in notification bar asks me "please update superuser.apk and binaries.
I tried also Unoversal Unroot apk, but same, doesn't work.
Any idea how to do it???
I was thinking about NANDROID but all of them are rooted ones.
I'm on 4.2.2 /Sense 5 Stock rom.
Relocked bootloader and restored stock recovery, but I can not get rid of root.
Thanks for help.
Where did you get all the rooted ones from ?
And what's your main number ?
Hi Hofs,
I got Nandroid-rootet from main XDA webpage where are all collected ands for each CID and Versions.
However I re-rooted phone again and removed supeuser and binaries and now is fine.
Thanks.
All the best.
Oke.
CASE CLOSED !
Hi, guys...I just unrooted, factory restored, and used flashtool to fully restore my sprint lgls990 following some connectivity issues. My phone is currently on android 4.4.2.
I am seeking some advice/help on basically end-to-end help. Initially, I used stump to root my phone and then installed xposed and a few other items.
What I want to do now is run the easiest root possible, create a backup, and then install a custom rom. Specifically, I'd like to use CM10 CM11: Royal Blue Cobalt from the Play Store.
I have a strong concern about rom stability, though. I want/need lte data, wifi, phone, playstore, maps, and the like, but don't want to sprint bloatware crap. Is that what a custom ROM does, keep the essentials and dump the carrier crap?
So:
I think using stump will be the easiest root process.
I have read lots about twrp, but haven't found very good instructions for a noob like me, can anyone point me to "the" thread for installing and using twrp?
Where do I find the rom so I can use the theme I have noted above?
Basically, I'm looking for a roadmap for the threads I'll need to accomplish this.
Thanks in advance for helping this noob...
Bump for a little help, please...
Is there a one-stop shop for rooting, backing up, and installing a custom ROM?
Ok - re-used stump root to re-root my phone. Dl'd root checker to confirm and it confirmed rooted. Though root checker says to dl supersu to verify root, I didn't initially. Subsequently, dl'd supersu, granted root checker access, and confirmed root.
Now I wonder if I back up now or if I should have backed up before root? Answer: Seems that I cannot make a nandroid backup without recovery and to have recovery my boot loader needs to be unlocked, er rooted, right?
Edit:
Seems unlocking the boot loader is different than rooting the phone.
I suppose I can just use TWRP to back up the device?
Edit 2:
Okay, using this site - http://lg-g3.wonderhowto.com/how-to/unlock-bootloader-install-custom-recovery-lg-g3-0157830/ - I dl'd flashify, dl'd my ls990 img to the phone via the guide and will install next.
Edit 3:
Successfully installed the lg ls990 .img via Flashify; re-booted into twrp; and successfully created a backup. Then I connected the g3 to my pc and moved the very large backup file to my pc.
Edit 4:
I didn't include EFS in the back up...problem? No problem, just did another backup and chose all options available.
Now on to installing a cm rom...
Edit 5:
Looking for a CM 11 rom for my ls990...found one but the bluetooth doesn't work - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-11-ls990-t2941164? Dafuq?
Edit 6:
Done for the night...no custom ROM. I thought most of the CM 11s would be sorted out by now, but alas, not so.
I'd really like to get a fully customized theme on this phone and thought going to CM 11 would get me there...
