I dont know how many of you guys know about this, but this driver is a life saver for the Evo. For a lot of Evo's, GPS lock can take FOREVER. However, with these drivers, GPS lock on Evo is INSTANT (within 5 seconds)!
I thought that since our phones have qualcomm hardware, these drivers might work. My E4GT (stock with Rogue's EK02 kernel and recovery) takes for-e-ver to get a lock if at all (indoor locks are a bona-fide no-go). However, after flashing this, I now get a quick lock outdoors, and get a lock indoors within 30 seconds. Perhaps it's just a fluke/placebo effect, I dont know. Been rebooting and testing these GPS drivers for the last couple hours and everything seems kosher now. YMMV.

How's the stability / speed of GPS lock after you leave the screen off 10 or so minutes?
So far I've been using the following gps.conf + SetCPU profile with good results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356865
I already own SetCPU, but it would be nice to offer a solution to friends with the Epic 4G Touch without having to set up SetCPU for them.
i updated my op witht he correct links. sorry for the confusion!

can't tell you right now, i'm at work. i will tell you though, i did leave the screen off (with gps status running) for about 20 minutes while i was getting ready for work. when the screen came back on (after i got in my car), only took about 5 seconds to lock on after i opened google maps.
thanks a lot this fix worked for me
i see mention of battery issues on some of the earlier driver revisions... can the people that flash this report on any additional battery drain?
is there a way to revert from these drivers? i guess just nandroid first and revert back if needed?
Thanks GPS fixed

Yes, I believe a nandroid backup will suffice. It's like that on the Evo anyways.
Can a MOD please sticky this...I think its very essential... this fix is flawless bro!

Also I sometimes have issues when changing roms with GPS but I have found that the app GPS status works great by just clearing out cache. You go to Tools - Options - choice at the bottom.. let it do its thing and then check your GPS again.
Just an alternative but the GPS fix posted here has worked wonders for the OG Evo

I have an OG Epic and had to flash a fix (the GPS started sucking pretty bad after the recent 2.3 update), so when I noticed my roommates ET4G was having GPS issues too I convinced her to let me root it (couldn't help myself), and more importantly flash CWM and this fix. I can say, their effects were nearly identical on both devices (albeit I used a different fix for my OG Epic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321049). After that fix on my device, and this fix on her ET4G we both went from 0-1 Sat locks in GPS Status, and unusable Google Nav to 4-7 locks and completely usable Google Nav. Neither device has had any other GPS issues since the fix (no freezes, etc).
GPS fixed!
Hi,
This is my first time posting on the xda forums as I only read others comments and try out things. Followed the cdma hero when I had it and now this.
Well I had gps issues. when I got this phone I tried every type of fix in this these forums. I tried the trick about configuring the gps.conf in the other forum post, additionally tried putting the set cpu to the screen off 500-500 100priority trick. The gps would work at times but would take around a minute to do so or sometimes when I had the phone on idle for a few hours it would never connect until a reboot.
At this I would have tried anything to fix the gps and I found this thread. I was like might as well try it if anything I can just nandroid back. Man it worked flawlessly. I tested every scenario in which I restarted the phone and it locked in 5seconds and then idled the phone for over 4 hours and then turned on gps status and it connected within 10-15seconds. This is all without clearing the cache too. But when I did clear it, it would lock faster.
My phone is set up with all the previous configurations from the other thread and this gps fix. There is definitely a performance difference, so its not the placebo effect. I haven't isolated if this fix was the the fix that corrected my gps or if it was the combination of both. But this sure works. Sorry for the long post lol hope this helps whoever had the same problem as me.
Ps. The whole phone is perfect. No los. Good battery. It was just the gps issue.

So then, you recommend doing a nandroid backup, then Flash the Drivers, if nothing ends up working, one can always reflash the previous backup and you're set as before?... also is there any wipes needed to be done before flashing the backup?

I honestly didnt even realise that the epic touch had a GPS problem going on. Mine always locks in less than 10 seconds and says accurate within 6-2m. It usually says 2m but on occasion 4 or 6. what are the symtoms of bad gps? I know it will either not lock on quickly or it wont the correct location. But what tecknically is a slow GPS lock on time to within 6m? Like 30 seconds to a minute? And what is considered not being accurate? Like within 15-30m? Im oretty curious. Maybe my 5-10 second lock on time and 2-6m accuracy is considered a GPS malfunction? I just never use it so i cant really know what is considered good or bad. I know mine uodated my position every half second to tge longest taking a full second when i used the car navigation app after putting in my desired address. Please e, plain

GPS should lock outside in a few seconds, it should lock or almost lock indoors within a minute, and it should definitely follow you while driving so that google maps navigation works.
if it is not doing that, take your phone to sprint and get a new one. my GPS was fine when i first got the phone, then a month later it started doing what people complain about, slow lock or no lock, and not following when moving. i complained to sprint twice, paid $35 and got a new phone and now GPS works fine.
the gps tool kit, flashing drivers from the wrong phone, and editing files never gave me a permanent fix. go exchange your phone.

Speculative on indoors.... Multiple factors to account for to get an accurate and true lock...
Well I've flashed it and it actually works in my experience. I've let me phone sleep for hours and it has been an improvement over previous fixes.
Still intermittent gps though.
How is everyone going about getting a replacement E4GT? I bought mine on launch day if that changes anything.
Is this something I can do over chat?
For those of you with GPS "problems"...try the following fix next time you have issues. Not sure what causes it, but anytime my GPS starts to suck I do the following and it fixes it instantly.
Menu->Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>
Click on the "All" tab
Click on "Maps" -> Clear cache
Back to list of programs
Click on "Network Location" -> Clear cache
Exit back to home and all should work much fast....at least it does for me
Let me know if this works for you guys...
I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or software but I rooted my phone within the first 24 hours of owning it. I run Calkulins ROM V2.6 [EL13 Kernel] and EL13 modem.
I have no problem locking indoor/outdoor fairly quickly. I did notice the indoor accuracy is slightly less accurate that the Evo 4g I had, but when it comes to locking time, and outdoor accuracy or moving "target" accuracy/lock I have ZERO complaints as of now **knock on wood**

It seems like we are almost close to see the public ICS version. FC07 is also one of the best ROM that we've seen so far and many issues from the previous version are already fixed on FC07.
But, I still see many peoples are complaining about the issues on FC07 from here and there. So, it would be great if we can see all real or possible issues in one place. This is the reason why I'm starting this thread.
Because I started, I want to add one :
Occasionally, GPS lock notification is not disappeared even the GPS turned off and there's no app using it.
Story - After flashing FC07 from FC06, I was checking individual apps and opened Go Weather app. Go Weather app asked be to enable My Location, so I did. Go Weather asked me 'GPS module is diabled. do you want to go to GPS settings?', so I turned on GPS and came back to Go Weather. It started searching and locked the GPS. After that, GPS notification always showed even I closed the App.
Just like happened in FC06, after the reboot, I do not see the same problem any more. Fortunately, I kept the screenshot of it.
[Update]
Now my FC07 ROM works much better than any of previous ROMs - sreenshots available in this post and post #50.
First, how stupid I was!
Late last night, I disabled the Battery saver script - Juice defender - and after that my Stock (rooted) FC07 ROM started working flawlessly. Even the battery life is showing great. After unplugged, it only used 10% for two hours.
Only one problem that I saw was GPS lock notification. It was there even I turned off everything. As we mentioned many times, only the workaround for this is just rebooting the phone.
Since last night, I do not see any apps FC'd. GPS working great, my wifi status is always updated even after the sleep.
So, if you see some weird issue on your ICS Rom, make sure you test your phone with any battery saver application. What I did during last night was, disabled Juice Defender and disabled some startups which I really don't need. One more thing I did was, configured CPU thru System Tuner Pro to use the ondemand govener. That's it and I'm happy with this FC07 ROM.
(Before this change, I also made the GPS tuneup on post #47, it's still effective on my phone and working great)
Right now, my phone stays cool without any issues.
(ps I updated Google map in this morning. I think this updated app is much better than previous version)
[Update]
I hope this would be the last update before I jump into coming FC13.
This afternoon, after a sleep mode, wifi did not show the signal bar again. But at this time, just turning off and on worked. Wifi signal came back to normal (don't need to reboot).
* Adding two more screenshots showing excellent battery life on FC07*

The gps disconnects frequently. It does connect fast but cannot hold a signal and when it does lose signal you have to reset the phone to be able to reconnect again. Also they have not fixed the issues with the media scanner. It still messes up the camera app a work around to open a 3rd party camera app and restart the phone this fixes this issue.

The gps lock notification does disappear with the EL29 modem. So maybe the problem is with the modem and not the Rom. Also Copilot 9 works with the EL29 modem and this Rom with no problems because the gps lock notification disappears when it is not in use.

Had GPS on for awhile when I ran FC07 (with the modem) never had the icon stay when I turned it off it went away like it should. Some people are having the issue however so not really sure it's with the modem.
I agree with GPS sticking around even after closing sometimes, which drains battery and warms the phone.
Other then GPS issues this has been a solid phone made better with the ICS roms
Thanks for starting this thread since I believe Samsung is monitoring this forum.

Has anyone gone in and taken a look at the build.prop "settings" for wifi?
Sometimes it happens that the wifi.suppplicant_scan_interval on roms based on these stock leaks we get is set as high as like 240..THAT is one thing that could definitely be lowered to like 90, and the lock would be much faster...
(I can't check it myself right now, because my ET4G is in transit due to a hard-brick replacement.)
It's definitely something someone might wanna take a look at.)

Mine shows 15 and I never touched this option. So, I believe it would be the stock default.
For me, the main thing that has been fixed is stability...but then again the leaks are coming way to fast to truly test stability (aka running for over a week). My two biggest gripes with the ics leaked roms hasn't been fixed since the early leaks...notification sounds sometimes still disappearing, and the gps bug still exists (albeit less frequently).

15?
I can't say I've ever seen that value placed so low in ANY rom on any phone....90 is usually the go-to 'custom' setting most "chefs" will use...15 doesn't seem like it would give the wifi even enough time to establish a connection before it went in to re-scan mode.
Hm.

To save the battery, I see many places are recommending '90' but anyway, FC07's stock value is '15'.
15 is the same on the GB rooms too.

LOL. Mine literally just got a lock on me (and on the correct side of the house) in about 4 seconds.
Well, most of this thread has been about GPS, but I'll throw my hat into the ring with something different.
I still can't get Bluetooth to pair with my Sony car stereo, and while I can pair with my Infinity car system, trying to play any audio causes Bluetooth to force close. It works fine in both cars on the GB ROM so this is certainly a ICS build issue. Although not necessarily only on FC07. It hasn't worked on any of the builds.

I've realized that, while using Telenav and Google Navigation, GPS loses signal, over and over again. The only way to get it back is to have GPS Status & Tool run in the foreground. Actually, it won't lose lock as long as that stays in the foreground with the screen on. The navigational apps are not keeping the lock alive. After maybe 20 seconds of them being in the foreground, the "cannot get GPS signal in this area" alert is there to piss the user off, once again. Perhaps, they haven't been optimized for ICS yet?

I know it won't be easy for some to hear this, but if your GPS doesn't work, it may be a hardware issue, not a software/radio problem.
I say this because my E4gT's GPS has worked flawlessly out of the box. I turn it on, get 6-10 locks within seconds, and navigation doesn't cut out (have tested on two 30 min drives and multiple short drives). This is "HTC" good. I even get a lock inside my house quickly.
And BTW, I know what bad/flaky GPS looks like because I had an O.G. Epic which was notorious for poor GPS reception and it lived up to that title.

Damn Thing
If it was software, I would have seen improvement on at least one of the modems I've flashed so far. I've decided I had the ****s of this and have been gradually flashing modems in this list and have yet to see any noticeable difference in SNR or number of locked sats.
Oh sure, if I wave a dead chicken over the phone and hold it up to the dash board (as if were mounted on the vent) the gps is fine, when it eventually locks. If i move it down to where I usually put my phone, the number of visible and locked sats starts to drop and it finally loses lock. It may hold if I perform the appropriate incantations or spit the correct amount of nickles in addition to all the other crap I've tried that was of equal (read no help at all) value.
The hardware in this phone simply gets piss poor gps reception; that is the general trend and like all general trends there are exceptions. Good for you if you're one of the exceptions; doesn't mean there isn't a real issue that effects others and may make the phone useless for navigation. Only thing I haven't tried is replacing the phone which is my next step or simply purchasing a dedicated nav device.
Also, my gs2 i-9100 never had this issue nor did my previous htc phone. I used them both (E4GT & GT-i9100) for a while until I finally sold my i9100 and dropped tmobile; the gps was so much better that I was using the i9100 as a back up. It didn't care where I sat it or how I held it or what the weather conditions were; the damn thing did what it was suppose to do: held a solid and reliable lock (in conditions the E4GT wouldn't) to the degree that I didn't even have to think of it any longer. It just worked; isn't that nice? E4GT users don't know what they are missing!
If I find a modem that gives me really good snr, 25-35 or higher with stable lock under my test conditions, I'll let you know.
Yep, navigation sucks!
No internet signal, no maps. Also the gps takes a lot to fix.
I suggest you to try out navfree from the market. It use openstreet maps and it downloads the entry country so I can use it fully offline. Additionally it fixes really fast.
I've said it's a free app?

Thank you. I'm going to give this a shot. If nothing else, it will kill boredom for a minute.
Edit: Grrr. Got an error "Couldn't install on USB Storage or SD Card".
Edit2: It installed fine with the stock FF11 kernel. I was using Agat's when it was erroring out.
This is what I'm saying because for some folks (me included) Gps works perfect out of the box on stock el29 - fast locks no matter where I put it in the car, inside buildings, etc and working great with Google nav - so if that's not what you are seeing my conclusion would be its bad hardware and Samsung should be on the hook for a replacement.
If it was software then all of you should Odin to stock el29 and simply enjoy the best fastest gps on a smartphone you've owned.

Not sure if you can get into Angry GPS on Agat's ROM, but if you are having issues keep a lock, there are some parameters you can adjust to force your GPS to keep a lock. You would have to search on optimal settings as I can't access dialer settings from CM9.
GPS Aids app may help you as well as it adjusts your GPS.conf file for your location.
Bugger, it's been a while!
I posted a GPS fix here that seems to do the trick for most folks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563765
And I highly recommend the app Waze. It's pretty cool, an app that is contributed to by the users. Tells you about red light cameras, police, accidents, breakdowns, slowdowns in traffic and more.
Guys some of you have a lot of expertise after read a lot here can't found the solution for my gps not locking...The phone is rooted.. And CWM installed.
My android version is 4.1.1 kernel 3.031-215287...Any help is more that welcome.
Most of the issue is related with the GPS when open maps start blinking or navigation...

Silly question but is the GPS turned on? Mine gets a lock in about 3 - 5 seconds. It also locks in my apt, my old infuse would never lock in my apt.
I'm running cleanrom 3.5, and with gps on I sometimes have to reboot to get a fix, even after using something like gps test to update the agps records. But after a reboot, fixes are nearly instantaneous.

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

I have similar problems on stock, unrooted Bell ROM. Occasionally when I open an app which uses the GPS it won't lock and the GPS icon won't appear on the left of the notification area (flashing or solid). I always leave GPS on all the time. Restarting the phone always solves the problem.

Thanks already remove the battery, turn off the battery and issue continue....
I'm having pretty much the same problem. Most of the time GPS just doesn't work. Weird thing is that it used to be fine. Sometimes a restart will get it working: sometimes it won't and it doesn't stay working for long if it does.
Right now I'm in Raleigh, NC, which is pretty much the center of the state and the weather widget thinks I'm out by the Tennessee border.
I'm used to having to clear that widget's data to make it forget a location and learn a new one if I'm travelling, but now that doesn't work.
Maps doesn't work well because it's using tower data to figure out a very rough location.
I have not tried using one of the GPS fix downloads yet because, quite frankly, the permissions they want pretty much freak me out. Take pictures? Make calls? What's up with that?
Anyone have any experience successfully resolving this problem?
