Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I just flashed a various of roms to try and fix this problem im having but all seem to cause the same problem (roms from CM9 to Charmeleon 5.0) all stock kernels
Media appears to be using the internet constantly over my 3G.
And when I use betterbatterystats it shows as DownloadManger partial wakelock and it ticks up every second including the number of wake locks.
Thanks heaps
All help is welcome
First thing to try would be to disable all auto-syncing on all accounts, reboot the phone, and see if it stops. Then turn each one on in turn, and see when it re-starts.
As it's clearly not ROM/kernel related, it must be something you are inadvertently setting up each time.
The only Google sync settings I have checked are Calendar, Contacts, Gmail and Google +. All others I do manually. I found having things like Instant Upload and Picasa Web Albums caused to much background activity.
Found it was due to a bug in greader, dev has just released a beta that fixes it
Thanks for you support

Im having an issue with Facebook sense. I noticed after restarting my phone for the first time that the Facebook friend stream was no longer updating even though it was set to update every hour and it was enabled, Looking in the setting menu confirmed this as the last updated time was not changing unless i forced a resync. Removing and re-adding the account worked for a while until I restarted the phone but as soon as I did the same issue manifested, it just wont automatically update. All other automatic updates seem to work.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so have you managed to find a resolution?
Cheers!
if you have the little power bar widget, with Bluetooth WiFi etc on, have you turned on the reloading sign?

Already checked that, every other app updates correctly just not facebook
log out then back in...it fixed my friends list not updating with new friends, probably will sort out th e friendstream (providing you've not already fixed it)
make sure its the facebook for htc rather than facebook for android tho !
How are you logging out of it?

I don't have my phone with me at the moment, but while logged into Facebook, is there no option to log out via the browser or when you press the Menu button?
I had that problem, fixed by going into settings and re-selecting the update frequency, seems to need repeating at each boot.
Does anyone know how to update contact pictures? My friends have updated their facebook prof pics but it isnt getting update to my phone.
i had to delete my facebook account then re-add it
Facebook integration seems a bit iffy on mine too. New friend facebook contacts do not show up on Contacts tab (to be linked). It seems the thing does not update without remove-re add.

Yeah I had to remove the account and re-add but then it only synced 30 contacts at first and then I had to keep resyncing 3 times to get all contacts synced.
Same here.....had to re-add my account
The first time it cut off at around 40. I rebooted the Desire, now I have the first 40 twice.

Solution
Had the same issue, just updated facebook and all better now...
not to beat a dead horse on this one, but I am having something along these issues with my FriendStream widget. The Facbook isn't updateing hourly like it should, I have tried the following to correct the problem:
Removed/Re-Added my account
Cleared all Cache Data
Cleared all Data
Reset the phone (factory Reset)
Updated Facebook
Really ata loss for what I should do from here, any ideas or suggestions would be awesome.
Since vodafone are starting enforcing their data allowance limits in October, I've been keeping a closer eye on my data usage and was surprised to see that, some days, I'm using 60-70mb. I knew that I was actively using a fraction of that so it had to be something running in the background.
I've got things like facebook and seesmic set to update once an hour and most other things set to manual or once a day updates. Most heavy data use apps like Spotify and Guardian Anywhere are set to only update over Wifi so I couldn't figure out what it might be.
After some searching, I managed to find an app which can break down data usage per app. It turns out that, in the space of a few hours, Calendar used about 20mb just running in the background. I'm guessing this is an HTC sense problem rather than an android issue with just keeping my gmail account in sync, since gmail and contacts aren't pulling down anything like the same amount of data.
Does anyone know how to set refresh intervals for calendar without affecting the other gmail account sync data? The only options I can find is straight on/off with no frequency options.
I'm rooted and using stock rom, since I prefer stability and even the most stable custom roms tend to have a few quirks here and there, but I cant afford so much data to be squandered when it doesn't need to be so might switch, but in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions? I tried searching the forum but it doesn't seem like there's anyone else having the same problem.

Hi, would you mind posting a link to this app? I have the same problem and have searched for something to break down usage per app but couldn't find anything. Thanks, Stoatie
Wow! Now THAT explains everything and why I was averaging 50-70mb/day as well! I'm also watching my data usage, so thank you so much for this post...
As for an answer, my best advice for now....remove the tick that allows your calendar to sync with your gmail account. The only reason you need to sync your accounts is if you frequently use the web app and as a backup option. So, you can turn off that and your contacts sync and everything will still stay as is and save you precious data. Then you can sync everything once a day or every couple of days if you're into flashing roms or are prone to lose phones, etc.
Hope that helps...I'm about to try out and watch my data usage as well!
+1 for a link to the app thaat breaks data use down by app

+ 2 for the same app please - I know a few guys have been looking for such an app on here for some time now.
Much appreciated.
This is what I use:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/trafficstats/com.trafficstats
appstorehq.com/networkstatistics-android-174793/app this is the one I used. It's been discontinued but is still available in the market. To be honest though, the one posted above looks like the better app, and it's free.
Thanks for the reccomendations

I noticed this with dk28 where my snsservice would keep saying restarting after about an hour when my phone is booted and doesn't have a running time. I don't know if this is causing some issues because the phone then say that I can't edit my contacts.

I gather you are referring to Facebook SNS? This started after Facebook made changes to their application and introduced their own sync process. Those changes did something that conflicts with Google's integration with Facebook.
Google and Facebook are going at it over the sync process within Android.

There is another thread a few pages back in this sub forum that discusses possible work arounds. Nothing confirmed to resolve the constant prompts as of yet.
I'm having this issue too, I don't use Facebook and I can't find anything on any of the forums about this issue. No problems other than SNSSERVICE RESTARTING... continuously in running services. I push to stop it and it goes away, but I haven't noticed any other problems, even after I close it. I do notice that my battery lasts longer when I kill it. What EXACTLY does SNSService do? I've heard several different comments that it is for Facebook, its for Security (? if so, what security?), etc... and what would be causing it to go into restart. I do toggle off 3G from Power Control Plus (and GPS and Auto Sync) when I'm at work or other times when I have 1 or 2 signal bars (to save battery), but when I've had this happen, I try reconnecting all those, and it does not save the snsservice from going into a restart loop.

I have the EXACT same problem, on EB13 Syndicate ROM.
One thing I know for sure is snsservice fetches email syncs at the selected intervals for the stock email app, because I haven't been getting any emails since the problem started. My girlfriend has the Samsung Fascinate (sister phone) and she has the EXACT same problem. Anyone else know?
I found a fix for this...I'll bet if you have this problem you don't have a Facebook nor Twitter account and thus, have removed the "Feeds & Updates" widget from your screens. If you DON'T force close the SNSService, but just put the Feeds & Updates Widget back on an unused screen somewhere it will immediately stop the snsservice from restarting. I've then deleted the widget from my screen and was good for about 2 weeks, then it started doing it again (after the facebook app got an update) so I just left the widget up now.

That's more of a workaround, rather than a fix.
so does this drain the battery? I had it happen last night on bonsai

I don't know, for sure it doesn't help it. It would be nice if somebody shed some light on this bug.
My fix is to just delete the two SNS apk's, and use the respective apps built in sync feature.

what are the 2 apks? are they safe to delete even if I'm using fb (Facebook)? I've notice that when snsservice is restarting and if I kill it, it will stop notifications on fb.

Excuse me...you are right, it's a workaround, like the airplane toggle and the upside down compass calibrate, but hey I hope folks can use it until it does get fixed, which, I think people with the issue would appreciate knowing.

To remove the stock, built in SNS features, you can remove the following files:
Snsaccount.apk
Snsproviders.apk
About affecting the fb app, I'm not sure. I just started using the fb app so I can't say with certainty. I am going to test and see if deleting either or both apk files stop notifications in the fb app. Based on what you said, sounds like it might.

I'm pretty sure you NEED those apks if you ARE using Facebook. You just need to put the Feeds and Updates Widget back on one of your unused screens.
No, if you're using the Facebook app that you download from the market, you don't need either of those apks.
Just tested notification functionality like I mentioned in my last post, and I am getting them all. Those apks are deleted on my phone.
You'd need to keep those apks if you want the Twitter and Facebook functionality that comes built in on a stock phone.

Does deleting those two apks not affect Latitude updates? I know their separate services but it seems as if Latitude doesn't automatically update correctly when I remove either snsservice or drmprovider.

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but in the hopes that they are, I'm posting this. For some reason, I'm not getting any notifications for push apps. Specifically for me, its Gmail, Google Voice, and FB Messenger. The apps aren't even syncing. I have to manually go into each app and tell it to sync.
I've had Gmail and GV sync for a little while after a ROM flash, but it never lasts more than a half hour or so.
Any ideas?
Not sure what rom u are using, or if you are using titanium to restore apps... but try settings>apps>gmail (or other apps) and choose to clear data, NOTE: you will have to re-sync accounts by going to settings>accounts and sync and enter ur info. your contacts will disappear for a short time while it re-syncs. its worked for me on previous devices after flashing a new rom, not sure if it will work here....
Check what kind of Internet connection you have: settings>wireless&networks>more>mobile networks>acces point names. The one working is net.
Any luck with this? I'm having the same issue.
I tried moving the gv app to /system/app but it didn't fix it.
Make sure you aren't disabling sync via the power widget.. it sounds obvious but it happened to someone

Similar problem here as well. Google Talk only seems to give me a notification when I turn the screen on. Just got my gnex last week and running stock jb now (only rooted).
Hey All,
I had installed CM13 nightly on LG G3(D855 international version) along with Nebula kernel 12.5. And currently I am having hard time to understand why contacts is using a lot of battery. I charged the battery to 100% and left it untouched for 7 hours and continuing with my daily use(whatsapp email browser and phone calls thats all, I am not a social media fan so no facebook twitter or instagram etc., I understand if you dont call my g3 a smartphone). I will post the BetterBatteryStats output log when battery is completely drained.
Also, when I enter settings-> Google I have a blank page. There is nothing shown under Settings-> Google. So, it is not possible to disable contact sync for now.
Furthermore, when I click Settings->Accounts->Google->Contact to sync contacts I see an error that says contact sync is having problems... But when I click again this error is gone until next restart.
It is really annoying to have this kind of battery drain. Also I have Amplify, Betterbatterystats, Powernap, Greenify, AppOpsExposed and Xposed installed.
Please let me know if you have any solution recommendation, I will be glad to give out many thanks to who supports.

Which nightly? Not sure if this effects your G3, but there was an issue posted in g+ about a gapps & 3rd pary app issue... https://plus.google.com/+CyanogenMod/posts/U1truK1Jo6i
I was just going to suggest new gapps, but it may be a CM issue.
