[Q] New for Android and want to root Desire HD

Hello Everybody,
Am totally new for the Android and i just received my HTC Desire HD 2 days ago
i spent these 2 days navigating the web trying to collect as much knowledge about my new phone
i became interested about Rooting topics ... even though i did not found a full simple guide to do it on my Desire HD
can i root my Desire HD or not? based on the details below
The phone is Branded to Vodafone UK
Android Ver.
2.2.1
Baseband Ver.
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Software No.
1.75.161.2
if yes, could you please provide me with some kind of detailed specific guide to do it with the required software links
if no, why? and what specifically should i wait for?

You can't root on 2.2.1 without S-OFF (to have S-OFF U must have a root). We must wait for solution.

the article says
[WARNING] do not flash the 1.72.405.3 wwe ruu or OTA,they will lose root and/or spl!
i saw it before i did post
but my Software is 1.75.161.2 not as mentioned i the post

It's does not matter... 1.72 or 1.75 you cant't root on this moment... we must wait.

Its done. 1.72 has been owned and can now be downgraded to 1.32 and rooted. Rejoice.

Can someone explain the names of these phones and softwares please.Im hoping to root mine and stick a better rom on it but I dont know where to start due to these names etc.

i recommend to you that read about it in the ANDROID DEVELOPMENT FORUM in this order you can find it in the XDA BROWSER, okay?
1-how to DOWNGRADE and root my dhd...
2-how to do a RADIO S-OFF, ENG OFF,& SUPERCID
3-How to flash a new recovery (clockworkmod)CWM
4-in this step you must to select a rom for flash into your phone
but this is soo personal thing..every people wants different features and things of the different roms i recommend that you taste a lot... COREDROID LEEDROID, ANDROID REVOLUTION HD,MIUI, CYANOGENMOD7, are cool customized roms to try.
then... you can flash new kernel...new radio....
look at for this in "dhd radio thread" or diferent threads of kernels in android development forum.

2.2.1 means that you have "froyo android version" and 1.75 is the number of the build...
ready atention.. you must to downgrade since 1.75 to 1.32 for you can root your device...because your device is actualized via OTA since 2.2 to 2.2.1

[Q] How do I root my DHD? (2.50.45.2)

Hey, I´ve used the search tool, but couldn´t find anything.
I would like to Root my HTC Desire HD, so I can Install the new Android Revolution 6.x (Android 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0 )
My Phone is currently running:
Android 2.3.3
Sense 2.1
Baseband Version 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel Version 2.6.35.10
Build Number 2.50.405.2
Software Number 2.50.405.2
My Phone has no branding!
Is rooting possible for me?
Can Someone please help me?

YES rooting is possible.
I rooted my Dhd about two weeks ago and all went well.
I spent about a week reading lots of different sites. All using different methods in the end I used a guide on driphter.com

if your unbranded you can skip the goldcard step.
i also had to download the PD98IMG using my phone and move it to the root (not in any folder) of the sd card using astro
the only other step i changed was to install visionary+ from blackmart alpha (google it. Its a blackmarket market) the install from the toolkit didn't work for me.
JSL is very good/quick to answer questions on that fourm.

You need s-off to flash new roms its an added security HTC add.
I think it stands for security off but i'm not 100% sure if anyone wants to correct me/let mr know please do.

I can´t download the ToolKit
Something seems to be wrong with the .zip file...
Any other way?

Could it be your Antivirus is killing the download? check to see if it is being held in Quarantine.

I couldn´t find the mistake on my computer, so I just downloaded it with my phone ^^ ... Everything Else Went totally easy ^^
(I was a bit nervous ... I really love my Phone )
But I can now enjoy the amazing ROMs from the brilliant xda devs...and never have to wait for an update from htc again!
(htc should really thing about getting some of you guys !!!!)

Im quite new on this forum and total newbie on rooting and stuff
I have desire HD and a have decidet to root it and ugrade new rom. Problem is that when i have tried to do as link shown:

Video tutorial are useless, read the effen manual and the Hack Kit site (http://tau.shadowchild.nl). If you need some basics insight into Android commands and jargon, just use the guide in my signature or visit the Ace Think Tank thread..DO NOT OPEN USELESS THREADS WITHOUT USING THE SEARCH FUNCTION FIRST...

So i am kidn aconfused with the root methode and S-off ( aka H-boot?). So i foudn thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
And i am kinda lost on it. So my DHD is 2.3.3 Gingerbread and build number 2.36.405.8.
And it say;s use : the Ace Hack Kit for DHD and..... where do i get that?
So any suggestion / tips before i downgrade / flash clockwork and otehr roms?

If you use that guide you will miserably mess your bootloader....

Thanks but what makesm e more confusing is :
Do NOT use earlier versions Ace Hack Kit (12.x and lower) on Inspire or DHD devices shipped with Gingerbread.
Do NOT attempt to downgrade a Inspire or DHD shipped with Gingerbread with a Froyo RUU.
Wah ti can tell was i bought mine in 2011 so i was shipped with froyo or?

Always treat your device as shipped with gb And You won't have problems. The hack kit does not use froyo ruu's so You won't issues with it.

one last questions What is RUU? anyways? OR u have A thread where explains everything? Sorry i am new in to this mobile ... forum .
