Google now - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been messing with it but I can't figure out how to add cards to the front page I guess you could call it, like when I first open Google now I want to add sports and such anyone know how? Also has anyone had luck with sports? The option to edit teams is there but its grey and you can't click and open it.

Just do a Google search for your favorite team a couple times. Google Now will learn.

Google Now learns based on where you are, what you do and search. Just use your device and let it go.

These instructions make no sense to me. There is no "Google Now", there is the search bar with the mic on the home screen, that brings up the search box with the "Now Cards". I assume that's what you are talking about?
But in the settings, there is no sub option "Google Now" there either. There are:
* Now Cards
* Voice
* Phone Search
* Privacy and accounts
And there is no sync option in any of them, the top right hand has some dots that popup "Send feedback" and "Help".
In any case I have restarted the entire phone without success.

Well, you're one step closer than me because I don't have "Now Cards" in my settings. Just Voice, Phone Search, and Privacy and accounts. So, basically, all the help in the phone relating to now cards don't even apply to me. Awesome. Anyone have any idea how to turn on now cards on a phone that apparently doesn't have any?

From what we can make out, your searches MUST be for teams both in the US and MUST be currently mid-season. I.e searching for Manchester United will give no results or cards, same as NBA team currently as its off season.

I had this problem because my account was through google apps and the predictive ui needed to be enable for mobile in the apps dashboard. If that is the case for you, try this solution another user found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744793&page=2

I haven't switched to Jelly Bean yet as I prefer the features in AOKP but had a question about Google Now.
Is the 'learning' it does tied to your Google Account or to your device?
i.e. I use my GNexus on the go but sometimes I'm going to be using my Xoom or my Nexus 7 I'm waiting for, will everything it's learned from being used on my GNexus be available on my 2 tabs? Also if the device is ever wiped does it have to relearn everything?
Just wondering. Looks like people love it so far.
Thanks!

As long as you're signed into Google, it will keep learning about your preferences, doesn't matter whether you're on a phone, tablet, or on the computer.
And no, Google won't forget your preferences even if you format the phone/tablet.

Slowing down search?
When I have Google Now enabled I find that the time it takes to launch the search app is significantly longer than when Now is disabled from search. Has anyone found a way to speed it up? I use the search bar for everything like opening apps, web searches, etc and need to be able to launch it quickly on the go!! But I do like Google Now so want to continue to use it but not if it's slowing me down, man!
btw, running stock 4.1.1
Thanks for the help guys!

[Q] ICS contacts: only manual links and no facebook contact?

I found it hard to believe after I got all my gmail contacts and google + contacts on GN...I got multiple entries of the same person. In HTC sense or tough wiz they usually automatically suggest you to links up those entries. But I look and look though all the options in ICS contact apps, didnt see it. Did google seriously forgot about it?
and none of the facebook contacts show up at all...probably not compatible with ICS yet?
No more Facebook integration after gingerbread.
U can use SyncMyPix. I know it's frustrating but I think this is the best solution available so far

You can link contacts together, but only manual and difficult.
Open contacts, then open person which you would like to link to another, then from top-right menu click "edit". Then click the same menu button again, there is option "join". It's the only way I found to combine contacts together.....

Ive tried this because ive wondered about linking contacts since my XOOM updated to ICS and once you click Join, on the top of the list is a Suggested contact, meaning the same name so its kind of easy to do if you know the multiples.
Most of mine linked automatically if they have the same name on my phone as they do on Facebook. Those that don't I joined manually
Haxsync on Android marker ... syncs pictures with face detection high quality ...and adds them to people automatically including recent posts ... well worth the money

[Q] Why am I not getting Twitter push notifications?

Hey everyone, no matter what ROM I use, Twitter Push notifications won't work on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. Any ideas why? It's really, really frustrating.
Some background: I'm in the US, using the the GSM Galaxy Nexus, which I got from Negri Electronics. I am running it on T-Mobile USA, and it's currently on the Android Revolution ROM. I seem to be the only one getting this issue.
When I rooted, I followed the guide on theunlockr.com http://theunlockr.com/2011/12/14/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-nexus/ which was unlock bootloader, install superboot/root, install rom manager, install rom. I never installed any radio or anything. But, I don't think any of those are issues.
Any ideas?

Now go bask in idiocy. Follow the development and familiarize yourself with terms, otherwise you look just foolish.
Show us a screenshot then - where is the option for "Automatic Refresh?"- people are willing to help, but the belligerent attitude doesn't help.
As I've said, I've gone through the settings in the Android twitter app (v 3.0.0, for reference), and I don't see that option anywhere. Have you tried asking Twitter for support?

You don't see a it in settings because it's enabled automatically. Jeez, it's people like you that make XDA unbearable... Educate yourself before you continue. I even provided you with links so you can understand.
Settings have changed with versions. You can turn it off manually, but you're probably too incompetent to understand...
Seems like someone else needs to educate themselves. Directly from your ever-so-educational link, it says:
Push notifications let you instantly receive Twitter updates – no matter what you’re doing on your phone. In your account settings, select “automatic refresh” and choose to receive updates for Direct Messages, @Mentions (from the people you follow or anyone), and Tweets.

I'm sorry, I thought you had some intelligence. Options change with new versions... With the new Twitter app, it's under Notifications, mentions, and if you turn mentions off that means push notifications are off, for mentions. Same goes for DMs. Get it, or is that too fast for you?
Good luck solving your problem with that attitude.
At any rate, Twitter would seem to be the best place to solve problems with the Twitter app, but good luck all the same.

I am failing to see why you are being so negative. How can you ask for help and when two separate people try to assist you have a hostile tone to your replies.
I have the new updated twitter app on my GN on VZW. There is NO option for automatic updates or push notifications. There is a time frame where you can pick poll intervals.
You don't have to act like a child in the forums to people only trying to help you!
Maybe push notifications just dont work...
Have to agree with the OP here. If someone mentioned/tweeted me I'd get an email and the Twitter notification at the same time (within seconds of the post). Now I only get the email. The app still recognises the mention under the @Connect tab but I don't get any push notifications whereas I used to on the older versions of the app. Either Twitter has changed something or it's not working

strangely it works on my gsII and my friends GSM & LTE GNexus :?
I just had a browse on Twitter's support resources - there is some indication that you may have to have a sync interval set up (nothing to do with push, I know) in order for push to work, but it was just a hint of a whisper of an idea, nothing definitive.

Prevent Android from logging my search history

Is there a way to do so?
Specifically, I mean my last google searches, browser history and market searches.
I just found options to clear existing histories, but no entry to prevent logging new ones.
if you're trying to hide your tracks in specific instances, you could use an incognito window in the browser to search including the android market. Then everything goes away when you close that window. But if you mean always, then I don't know.

Yeah, I mean the same settings I have in my Notebook's Firefox: Simply don't even start a history. Or when I tap the Google Search window on top of the screen - don't give me my last searches.

Yup, tried that already. I'm at the moment not even logged into my gmail account. It still gives me my last searches below the google text field on the home screen.
Just to be clear: I don't mind that "instant search" which autocompletes, but the storage of my last searches bugs me. It's the same in the market.
I wonder if this is related to a recent article ibsae on yahoo news about Google saving your history .
I deleted it all and paused it through Gmail on my desktop. However I believe this is something different but regardless ibwoukd check that yahoo news article. When I have a chance I'll get link for it

I don't think it should affect the OS itself. Remember, I'm talking about the search bar on the home screen, not the browser.
It is possible to delete the search results one by one by tapping the X on their side, but there is apparently no option to prevent the search bar from creating the entries in the first place.

I had the same issue so I downloaded 'Beaver' by Crowbar Solutions (free and paid on the Market) which is now my browser and basically saves absolutely no trace of your browsing history. The browser is pretty much the same as the stock browser and I have the paid version of the app so was able to set my own homepage to google, etc.
...and I just realised you were referring to the search bar on the homescreen my confusion sorry. I don't use that search bar so can't offer a solution.

[TUTORIAL] Configuring Google Now

It seems a fair few people are having issues configuring Google Now to give them the smooth female voice, images in the search content and the ability to send texts, set alarms etc.
Follow this tutorial and you should be sorted in no time.
The problem is that the phones native language should be set to US English, and the Google Now search needs to be configured to use google.com

Note: If you are in a Google Apps domain (rather than gmail.com/etc.), you will need to enable this feature as an administrator:

Am I the only one who likes S-Voice better than Google Now?

I know neither are perfect but when I give a local phone command like play music or a certain song S- Voice usually does it automatically. Google Now just always wants to search the web or make me scroll to a (tiny) button and choose what I want to do. Any tips to getting Google Now to "get a little smarter"?
I don't get Google Now yet. I mean I have it, I just don't "get it". The cards kinda put me off, so I haven't taken the time to explore what it really does for me.
I liked being able to press the search button (which my S3 doesn't have ) and Google Voice Search would pop up and I'd tell her (yeah, her) to do something and she would do it (usually).
Google Now seems a bit more complicated.
I've been using Google Now for a while now and I've found it to be very convenient. I love the fact that it will remind me when my favorite football (soccer) team plays a day before on the days I forget. It's pretty awesome IMO how it gives me an ETA for my commute to and from work without having to look up anything. It also does that for any place I look up (Store, Company, etc) with a shortcut to navigate. I was skeptical at first but it has found it's way to integrate into my everyday life.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I looked into it a little bit and I've come to the conclusion I don't lead an interesting enough life for Google Now to be useful. I (more often than not) know where stuff is around me, I have apps that tell me the weather and my teams' scores, and public transit is pretty consistent for me.
So there you go.
I can't really get the hang of either of them. Can either of them place phone calls or open apps?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk 2
There both agreviting. I mean try telling it to send a text message, damn thing just twist your words. It's making me think my spoken English was recently learnt through rosettastone. I end up arguing with it....

I use Voice Search (not Google Now) because the cards put me off.
Usually I'm looking to do something specific and I don't need a bunch of cards coming up.
I found that S-voice was less accurate and slower than Voice search for everything. VS will make calls, search, search phone, send texts...etc.
I hated on S-voice that it had to repeat back what it was doing....make sure that's what I wanted and then do it....the process took longer than VS by 3X.

Ditto here. I did find personalized recognition under settings so you can try that to see if it helps, and IIRC, you can choose the apps that it has access to.
I pretty much only use the (new offline) Google Voice search/commands, too, and ignore the Google Now cards, because they're not useful often enough in NYC. Weather and extreme weather alert cards are nice, but the subway and commute stuff doesn't really help me, and I don't give a sh1t about the new movie & sports cards.
Maybe more user-relevant cards from apps will show up in the future, though.
(Still, S-Voice sucks.)
The fact that google now doesnt have full control over the apps yet is the kicker. I think it will be able to do this and then it will be the king. But for asking google search type things its better than S voice, but S voice can control the apps....combine the abilities of the 2 with the speed of Google Now and it will be great.

Google voice is the best of both worlds...it has app control and it's fast on voice searching.
It's S-Voice without the annoying slowness and GNow without the stupid cards popping up.

Isn't part the problem that Google Now uses DIFFERENT commands to do things? (I just updated to the v7 version and I can set a time with the same prhasing as S Voice, but it actually sets an alarm for 10 minutes later vs S-Voice's bringing up the timer part of the clock.)
In S Voice you would say, "set a timer for ten minutes" and it brings up the stop watch and asks you to start it. (mine usually times out before I can say 'start')
In Google Now you say, 'set a reminder for ten minutes ' and it does set the alarm for the time.
What I LOVE is that Google Now can look at my calendar and where my next appt is and tell me (in advance) how long it's going to take to get there, reminding me to leave. This of course requires that you put the information into the location portion of your appts.
There's a set of 2 vids on Youtube with Google Now's 67 commands and search types.

I never use neither of them.
I hate Google Now throwing all the sports thingy wasting my battery, memory, and data.. Though, S-voice don't spend any data, I feel like it's wasting battery and memory.
I'll use G-Now/S-Voice when phone can stay up for 3days with heavy usage
